If you had to choose one male and one female name from your family tree (either side) as your favorite, what would they be?

My great uncle was named Valentine.

My great great grandmother was named Claribel.

Coming from a Chinese family, rather than the sound of the names I love the meanings. My favorite would be Xiwen (F) because Xi means “flourishing, splendid, prosperous, healthy, excellent” while Wen means “refined, gentle, literary.” I just love the meaning of the characters. For a male name, I don’t really have one and I don’t really know the characters they use.

Margarita definitely and * checks notes* my uncle is Juan, my grandpa José, same with the other one, great grandpas both Juan or José... Juan José it is!

Magdalena (I always wanted to name my daughter after my grandma if I had one, this was her middle name and it’s incredible)

Sjöfn, my great grandma was the first woman to get the name in Iceland. Sjöfn is the goddess of love in norse mythology.

Jochum (Yohkhum), my 4 times great grandfather. He was a father of 14, a relatively poor farmer and a lensmann in his municipality. His son wrote the national anthem. Super cool name and super old fashioned

Magdalena for a girl since apparently it is on both family lines...and honestly no male ones. Lots of poor representatives of the names.

Male names - now that’s a very limited sample size! The same handful of names come up again and again. If I find just one more William in my family tree, I think I’ll scream. I’m going to choose one of the rarer names from my family tree, not because it’s objectively nicer than the others, but just because I’m not sick of seeing it. So I’m choosing the name of a very distant relative - my 5 x great grandfather Gabriel.

Female: Clarinda. There's potential for quite a few nicknames as she would get older and that's appealing.

Male: Mordecai. It's badass, I love it!

My great-gran's middle name is Loretta; that's my pick. For a male name...I'd have to look at my ancestry page, lol. Plenty of traditional old names though, I'm sure there's and old one I'd pick.

My favorite name from my family tree is Blair. The relative was male, but it's become more gender neutral, and I considered it as a name for my daughter. Ultimately, we felt it didn't flow well with our last name and went with a different choice.

Otherwise, my favorites are Diane and Charles.

I have a distant relative (dating back to the 1700s) whose name I love: Chrystiliana. I’m not sure I’m spelling it right and I can’t look it up easily. It’s pronounced like Chris-still-liana. It’s a mouthful, but I really like it! I actually once met someone with that name. I was floored. She was surprised I was familiar with it.

The men’s names are mostly very common names. I really don’t have a favorite.

I personally love my mothers name! It's a common name with a rare twist: Karyna. As for male, closest thing would be my cousins name, Matthew.

I’m currently pregnant (boy) and we had names picked out for either outcome. Both were our grandparents named. Anna and Jackson.

My maternal grandmother's name is Alice, and I've always liked it. I wouldn't name a future kid that, because it's nowhere near the top of my list of favorite names, and the husband doesn't like it, but I've always loved it.

For male... I'm uncertain, but as common as it is I've always like the name James, and that an uncle on my dad's side.

I like Meredith and Peter. I was so surprised especially when I figured out that Meredith was where my family middle name started. I don't know anything about her but I think she must have been pretty great for the women in our family ro decide to continously pass down her middle name throughout generations.

My grandmother was Eleanor Belle and I just love that. For male, probably Edward.

My family tree is full of people named James, William, Edward, Thomas, Sarah, Hannah, Ruth, Madeline, Mary, and Rachel. Both my maternal and paternal lines are full of those names. I haven't come across many names other than those even after branching out to aunts and uncles in each generation.

I suppose my favorites as in closest to something I would use would probably be Elijah and Sarah. Favorite as in unique would be Pleasant (male) and Phoebe (female).

My great-great grandmother’s name was Serafina. I think it’s so pretty! I don’t hear it too often. I’ve debated it some but I have a friend Sara, so I don’t know if that’d be too close haha.

Honestly, I’m not a fan of most of the male names. And both sides lean into the juniors, thirds, etc. If I had to pick, there are a bazillion Andrews and I think it’s a cute name.
