Been playing Minecraft for a long time and am looking for something with lots of automation you have to somewhat figure out for yourself. I've played the demo for Factorio, but I was wondering if there are others like that around that I didn't know about.
I second Dyson sphere program, awesome game.
Dyson Sphere Program is like factorio in 3D but without combat. Full focus on settig up production lines.
There's combat now. Been for a few months
There is combat now. Dyson sphere Program is also like Factorio, but you expand from a single planet to an entire star cluster
Please add Captain of Industry!
DSP and Factorio are both great. DSP is better for making you think in 3D and giving you a feeling of scale (given endgame scale is ludicrous), but at least imo, Factorio is better with the nitty-gritty.
Dyson sphere is very smooth
Agreed! I love stroking the Dyson sphere just to feel how smooth it is. It's also warmed by a star from the inside, which feels very nice and cozy.
Satisfactory, Automachef
Agree on Satisfactory. And it's leaving early access this year, so it's a good time to jump on in.
I second Satisfactory. They give us trains. Ermahgerd!
I like trains
Then you will like satisfactory
I have 100hrs in it 😛
Thanks for getting the reference
Go Macco!
only downside to that one is they used ai generated voice acting
Meh, it sounds ok. Just turn it off. It's only for the tutorial anyways.
Factorio is the gold standard for the automation genre. Satisfactory is great if you prefer the 1st-person view in a 3D world. Dyson Sphere Program is also fantastic, it takes it one step further by making the planets spheres, which has some interesting building challenges.
Greg tech new horizons
Noted. 😄
I just made it to steam power.
SUSY bc magic doesn't belong in tech
lol what you can’t be serious
I'm dead serious get that thermal sh outta my tech packs all Greg all the way
Try some Zachtronics games.
Don't forget Mindustry y'all. Sci Fi factory builder+tower defense hybrid with a fuckton of mods. It needs to be on this list. Plus it's free. Do drop the solo dev Anuke a little cash if you enjoy it.
Yeah it’s a banger
Yes
Free? I paid 10 bucks for it and see it listed for 10 bucks. How do you mean?
It's free on itch.io and android.
Oh wow that's awesome! Does the multiplayer work in the free version? I have some buds who I think would enjoy this haha
Yes, though it's not as simple as in the steam version, from what I've heard.
Mindustry is brilliant!
Stardew Valley if you use mods
Any suggestions for mods? Had no idea stardew had automation.
"Automate" mod. It allows all machines to automatically pull from & push to adjacent chests
Yeah so amongst my friends there is debate about what this does to the game but yeah like the other guy said. Automate mod, you still have to gather the stuff from your chest but it consolidates and cuts down a ton of maintenance
Oxygen Not Included
again had to scroll far too much to find it
Was just about to post about this one when your comment popped up. Way too far down. Optimizing your dupes is a huge part of the game.
Must say i am highly surprised Captain Of Industry isnt mentioned in the comments already.
Think factorio but with vehicles and belts ( no trains) with the even more fun of complete level terraforming. So start with a hilly mountain and finish with a complete flat map...if you want to....trust me everyone does :p
Lot of math to do, and if you want some great gameplay with hilarious commentary/ lets play, check out JD Plays
Has no one else been pulled into the endless gifs that Opus Magnum has on reddit? I am shocked it isnt on the list anywhere
factorio
Astroneer. It sounds like just what you are looking for
The Planet Crafter, it starts as a survival rpg but in the endgame it becomes a factory simulator.
Games where you have to figure out what to do with no direction would be Ark and Grounded (mostly).
C++ and Zig. Great games.
Rimworld
Foundry just came out it’s great and it also has voxel based destruction and mining like minecraft
Autonauts! You need to program the robots yourself, to harvest crops, craft items, feed colonists, etc. It gets easier as you go on, but there was a good bit of trial and error for me and my wife (and she works as a software developer). Still, it's approachable enough that anyone with a logical mind should enjoy it.
Edit: Corrected name.
This sounds very interesting, do you have a link? I have tried looking on steam and other websites, but it keeps suggesting things with transformers :(
Sorry, brain fart. It's Autonauts.
Space engineers has some cool stuff. You can build drones to go out and mine for you, and bring the ore back and unload while they recharge and have your puppies send it to the right spot for processing.
It's like Minecraft + Satisfactory
No combat just automation, and you can automate the destruction of terrain even. I hated satisfactory for having a level you cant even destroy. It's pretty neat, give it a shot.
Rimworld with automation mods can be really fulfilling albeit difficult if you choose a combat scenario.
Rimworld is quite fun to automate
I hope most folks who don't mention it just saw it in the original post and figure "oh, they know about Factorio."
Seconding Foundry! It's in beta access so there aren't things like water physics BUT ITS SO FUN!!
Dyson Sphere Program!
It's by far my favourite of the big three (the others being Factorio and Satisfactory)
It's a little different, but one of my favorites for automation is Exapunks. You use psudeo code to guide these little robots through computers to complete tasks. A bit more problem solvey than what you described, but wanted to throw it out there
If we’re chucking out Zachtronic games, Infinifactory is literally making a production line for a given product each level
Builderment 👍
Shapez, Anno games
Satisfactory, Dyson sphere program
Factorio
Techtonica
Dyson Sphere Program
Satisfactory
Astro Colony
Satisfactory is your answer.
Satisfactory. Factorio.
Satisfactory probably your best bet
STARMANCER.
STARMANCER.
STARMANCER.
Dyson sphere program is a good one
I was going to say some of the automation Minecraft mods are a trip, but it looks like you already found those
Dyson sphere program as well. Take it from a guy with 3,000+ hours in factorio, it can’t be beaten.
Astroneer!
I’ve seen people build computers in Tears of the Kingdom, but I think you need mods
Factorio is one of my favorite games
Factorio.
the factory must grow.
SpaceChem is a game about building automation machines. They start out simple but get quite complex where you're building factories of machines upon machines. It's not a big open world, more lkke stages where you have to clear goals. But if you like the actual act of automation and the programming aspect of it, you will love SpaceChem
Have you tried the minecolonies mod for Minecraft?
Autoforge
If you are into some FPS pvp there is Rust. You can automate crafting of virtually any of the craft able items.
Impossible tower 2, I think it was called. It's an idle game, but later in the game you can program automation in with internal scripting protocols. Quite interesting
Factorio is the only answer here. Every other automation game doesn’t even come close
Many players tend to neglect it but setting up and managing automation can be a large part of Dwarf Fortress. Some recommend using DF to make automation simpler but I think that takes aways from the experience. Minecraft was also inspired by Dwarf Fortress so you may enjoy seeing what caused such inspiration for a game you enjoy.
Have you played the browser based "Universal Paperclips"
https://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/index2.html
(best viewed from desktop not mobile)
It might be right up your alley.
Kind of a different type of automation and the kind of game you have to study to be able to play but from the depths is… well I can’t even explain it honestly.
If you are enjoying minecraft you can go back in time and play skyfactory. Or any of the many automation mods from before 1.10
Frostpunk, it's a lot shorter but there are few scenarios to get through
Autonauts - looks a bit like kids game, but is really fun and bit different than others. You manage bots that have limited memory and you have to optimize programs you give them.
You can also browse steam tags yourself ;) https://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Automation/
At bottom of that page you can even stack additional filters
PlateUp! - its a combination of overcooked, automachef and roguelikes
Dyson Sphere Program
Core Keeper!
Minecraft with mods lol, some of the mods for automation are really fun.
There are mods like that for MC if you’re interested. Aside from that Idk much games with automation
I'm going to assume that you're on console playing bedrock. The Java version of minecraft has many modpacks that work with automation
Satisfactory
Vacuum Warrior
If you really want to automate stuff and nothing else you can download the demo of FactoryIO. It simulates small, simple versions of actual industrial systems for you to automate. You can even connect real controllers to it to use, but it also has a built in system they call Control IO. It is pushing the limits of what you could call a game though.
Maybe not the automation type you’re looking for but I just picked up The Farmer Was Replaced. Pretty fun. It’s a coding (python style) idle game. Automation is a big part of feasibly upgrading your idling. But it’s all done by coding how you want the drone to farm
If you like Minecraft but want automation look at Foundry.
It's basically just Minecraft and Satisfactory combined.
Rust has a really cool automation system that you could spend an entire wipe trying to set up. It's pretty rewarding when you get it. You can set up your base where it automatically crafts explosives for you to raid with. You can set up loot sorting systems, have automatic turrets, computer stations you can view and use from your phone.. it's pretty great.
But there's other people and they will try to blow your base up. It's not for everyone.
Final Fantasy 12 has an autopilot system for your party members.
Bruh
Haha I know what you're saying but it's not quite the answer op is asking
Not going to play one better than factorio. But the clones of it also do a fair job.
Factorio, Dyson sphere program, shapez and shapez 2(not out yet), timberborn, satisfactory, techtonia, mindustry
My favorites are Dyson sphere program and factorio. Dyson sphere is very smooth and easy to play and factorio has the most content by a long shot.
