Mythic Map - Search Games by SimilaritySuggestions

Here is the website.

Observation: I have asked for permission to make this post.

Mythic Map is a website that suggests games based on similarity. My goal is to help people find meaningful game suggestions while increasing the visibility of the great games out there.

Currently it only supports Steam games. This will change in the future (probably).

Edit (02/08/2023): Things have been sorted out and from now on I will be adding non-Steam games -hopefully- daily. Some switch games are in there now, like Zeldas and Pokemons.

It also checks daily for what is currently on sale on steam (some sales might be missing - if I check at 8AM and a sale spawns at 4PM, the website will only be aware of the new sale the next day). I might try adding other sales sources in the future.

Also, some suggestions might be a little strange, but keep in mind that different players might be looking for different traits in games, so I have to cast a broad net. An example is Skyrim, where a good portion of the suggestions are not open world RPGs, but instead are games that have a big modding/user created content community. Still, if you feel a game is missing or is completely out of place, do not hesitate to tell me about it - you can send me an email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or maybe post about it in the comments.

Edit (05/07/2023): After a couple of months, I have finally implemented most the fixes/features suggested in the comments! The new version might have some bugs or issues, so if you find any, please tell me about it. Same goes for features. Meanwhile, I'll keep working on some ideas I have for the website.

Edit (09/14/2023): I thought it would be cool to find games based on other types of entertainment. My tests were done on anime and they ended up being serviceable, but I'm not very happy with the cross-category suggestions and it might take a while until I figure it out, but when I'm done, Mythic Map will start suggesting things based on movies, series and maybe books.

Hope it helps!

Annual 2023 Steam Winter Sale Hidden Gems threadSuggestions

Welcome to the Hidden Gem thread - Im a big fan of indie games, and always look for under-reviewed games that deserve a second life. This table is all automated based on the list of games I maintain, so let me know if theres more info that would be good to see in it.

Unfortunately, as I found out, something broke between the summer sale and today, so it didn't properly pull out the New games from the list - Hence the delay. I set up the New Game Table manually, so none of the fancy prices, review percentage, or things go with it right now, but I'll update it once I fix the pipeline that gets the data from my database

It now features a neat Table that can be filtered and sorted in all sorts of ways to help with discoverability (since markdown tables are not good for that). You can find the table here

Big News though - In the future, this thread will morph into a website of it's own. Ive been building a 'hidden gem discoverability platform' that will let you slice and dice the entire steam catalog by a ton of attributes, including the number of reviews, release dates, steam deck compatibility, genre tags, and more. Its a tool I started to help me find games for this list, so I figured with some polish, I could throw it up for anyone else to use.

I was hoping to launch it today, but the UX is still a WIP. Just be on the watch for it soon ;)

TL:DR - Out of the 100 games on the Master List there are:

  • 3 new games on the list

  • 86 on sale

  • 64 games over 50% off

  • 51 games with a review score of 90% or Higher

  • 11 games with Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews

  • 7 early access games

  • 30 Steam Deck Verified games

  • 13 games have demos

IsletsI honestly thought I had this on the list since it launched, but Islets is a short (~8 hours) cozy metroidvania that doesn't overstay its welcome. Highly recommend for people looking for a game along those lines.Metroidvaniahttps://store.steampowered.com/app/1669420/Islets/
Void StrangerIf "Sokoban + LaMulana" catches your eye, play this game. It's one of those games you should play without looking anything up about, so I hesitate to say much more. Meta Puzzles await youPuzzlehttps://store.steampowered.com/app/2121980/Void_Stranger/
Chants of SennaarWhile I had this on my list when it only had a mere 157 reviews on steam, GMTK made a video about it which absolutely exploded its popularity. I have a love of Linguistic based puzzle games (Outer Wilds, Heavens' Vault, this) and had been watching for it to release for months. Glad it got popular enough that the studio can do something else interesting in the futurePuzzlehttps://store.steampowered.com/app/1931770/Chants_of_Sennaar/

Give me your super obscure Rogue-like games

Give me your super-duper obscure retro roguelike with incredible depth like cogmind or like dwarf fortress adventure mode.

Games with fun "What the fuck just happened," everything going to shit moments.

kinda like in minecraft fighting a pillager raid, or a lot of moments in terraria with fighting bosses and things like the goblin raid. also like moments from half life series like the beginning when the Resonance Cascade disaster happened, or when they just spam a shit ton of enemies at you and also give them something new to ruin your day. i want a game that makes me go what the fuck a lot.

Looking for a game with a specific class: spellblade

That's my favourite class but it never felt quite right. I've played soulstone survivors, rogue legacy, ToME, Last Epoch. And it's in LE where I believe I had the most fun. And I don't want to "customize my class to be a spellblade" I want it to BE a spellblade like the classes can't be mixed and there's a clear distinction and design to it. Bonus if it's roguelike as it's one of my favourite genres.

Any game as interesting progression wise as Subnautica?

I love how in Subnautica you start as a stranded person without any utilities and any possibility to explore the world further but as you advance you get things to explore better and get more out of your surroundings. It's one of the best games to manage progression to be a part of the experience. Is there any similar games with that aspect?

Mount and Blade seems very fun but I can never get past how absolutely janky it feels to play

Looking for fun multiplayer games which do not require a ton of time investment

I'm working now so I can't devote hundreds of hours to games. I love multiplayer games but get absolutely crushed at anything competitive because everyone has hundreds of hours and has strategies memorized.

What are some good lesser known movie tie in/licenced games?

I enjoyed the warriors, king Kong, scarface, the godfather. Are there any other games that are good but people don't really talk about?

Help me find a coop game to play with my friends! (Non PvP/PvE, 4 people, PlayStation)

So me and my friends have been big fps players but have started to dislike the PvP aspect of it due to how many sweats and try hards there are now. It doesn’t necessarily need to be an fps but we want non PvP multiplayer games, but just games similar to The forest, payday, grounded etc.

Suggestions for unique PC games

I switched to PC about 5-6 months ago after having to take a 4 year break from gaining due being busy.

The first game I completed was outerwilds and after that I really can't get myself to play any other games that I have in my library. As they all seem like by the numbers AAA games. Some of those games r control, Alan wake 1+2 and star wars jedi survivor.

One of the reasons I wanted to switch to PC was that I would be able to play some of the more obscure indie games that I saw on let's play. But I don't know how to find them so all I am left with is mainstream games that I could even play on my ps4.

The only genres that I avoid r walking sims (think life is strange or telltale games) and turn based games as they dibs on feel personally engaging to me (feels like a menu simulator rather than a game) other than that I am open to any genre.

best games to mindlessly cruise around in

im looking for a game i can just ride around in (from a running to riding a jetski) while i listen to music preferably a good looking game but doesnt really matter i like to ride around in gta5, forza and skate 3 but they are starting to get boring. ive also tried sledders and mx bikes but i think the learning curve for those is a little to much for me. preferably games on steam, xbox gamepass or anything else i can emulate.

thanks!

Looking for small 2 players games

what r ur suggestions for 2 player games that don't require much dedication on them and can be enjoyed from the get go

I'm looking for chill games I can turn my brain off? Just create chaos

I started playing forza for a bit and driving around the open world and smashing into things is super enjoyable.

My other turn my brain off used to be botw I'd throw bombs at my enemies.

(Two games I didn't like was star dew and Dave the diver, also no man's sky wasn't really my thing)

Deep strategy mobile game

Looking for a game to fill some breaks when my computer is not available.

I enjoy Magic the Gathering, but Arena doesn't run on my 120€ smartphone. I'd be fine with something similar that does run.

Also into colony builder stuff or other "topdown" strategy simulators. Just anything where choices actually matter for your outcome, and there is no "tap faster to win"

Limits: No games that cost money repeatedly, one time payment is fine, subscriptions are not, and I don't want reasonable progress locked behind paywalls.

Thanks in advance :)

Co-op games where there isn't fixed trinity roles, but you can still build to play as a healer?

Hopefully the title makes sense. What are some multiplayer games where there isn't the traditional Tank/Healer/DPS roles in group content, but a player can still optionally build to become a healer. An example might be something like solar Warlocks in Destiny 2 or medics builds in Payday.

Looking for a game like silent hill 2 or resident : biohazard.

I liked both of those games a lot but I haven’t been able to find anything similar, any suggestions from you guys?

Nostalgic & Forgotten 2000's PC Games

Now get me on this, I got a Laptop recently with 4GB RAM, Core i3 and integrated Intel UHD Graphics and I've reminisced to my teen days and download a game called Judge Dredd: Dredd vs Death, runs like a dream and I was wondering what other games are so memorable and a hidden-gem that would run on virtually anything. My second game I want to try is Red Faction (1) and Half Life but please tell me of all the non-main stream ones!

Looking for games with a lot of puzzles or simulators

Not for me, but for my gf. She loves games like Zelda or Tales of the neon sea.

She also likes simulators like Stardew Valley or Sims.

Preferably some RPG with many puzzles and stuff like that. She doesn't have a powerful PC, so it would need to be something kinda light.

Thanks!

Need help finding something to play!

Basically I'm off sick work for the next few days and I really want to find something to sink my life away into while I wait for things to clear up. Just bought Cyberpunk 2077 and it's DLC but at times my computer was hitting 40FPS on medium to high settings and I just couldn't be bothered to try and fix it. Refunded it and am looking for something else. Preferably something that doesn't require lot's of thought and is just an awesome time killer. Really considering Factorio but I worry it's just not gonna hit for me. Any suggestions or should I try Factorio?
