Does anyone else spend more time building farms instead of actually farming?
ScreenshotI’m exactly the same. It’s almost a terrible habit lol
How do you create a map? I’d be addicted and thank you kindly
Do you mean creating a actual map? There is a map maker, thobi have not used it (yet). What i ussually do is start on a empty map like no mans land and use mods to get the buildings etc and go frkm there
Same, more building goes on then anything on my farms but I use equipment to clear land and such
How would you clear land using equipment 🤨
I use the tree devour and it turns wood trees into chips…. Or use skid steer with a tree b gone on front and don’t have to worry about chips, is that a hard concept?
I've been having this problem recently where I'm trying to make my farm look as realistic as possible and spending too much time and effort doing so.
It’s a sandbox game, no time is too much time. If you enjoy it, just do it and have fun :)
True true, but I have some weird OCD brain. There's too many ways to easily cheat money, but also designing land is way too expensive, painting, using grass, bushes, trees etc, it shouldn't be that expensive, so I feel guilty that I'm using money that me and a friend make, so I give myself money from another farm so I can keep designing, but then I feel guilty because it feels like I'm money cheating when I wanted to play honestly.
Silly brain.
You can do both. That’s why many of us play multiple maps. You can do a realistic one, or one where you give yourself 100.000.000 (you won the lottery), small equipment farm, big equipment farm, forestry farm, production focused farm, whatever your heart desires.
Consider the "Free Landscaping Tools" mod 😀
Yes, at first I would just build my dream farms, cheat money to get everything looking nice… it didn’t feel as satisfying but it is very fun. Now I try to start from nothing and actually EARN the farm, usually do a backstory like I inherited land and only have so much junk equipment to make the best of my new situation to try to make a farm profitable, it’s a lot more rewarding although if you make one little building placement mistake you’re out a few thousand dollars… Designing my farm ultimately is a huge part of why I love the game, terraforming my own land, chopping down trees, building something beautiful from scraps and undeveloped land is really satisfying though it takes a very long time.
Yeah and i like to do it very detailed, but only in the beginning of the carrier
Yeah that’s usually what I do in FS22, it’s not really about farming as much to me anymore.
If I’m playing start from scratch I’ll usually just start with a small she and small house then add more sheds as I need them and eventually build a new house
I’d start with at least an of-age she, size preferences aside.
No. I've never built a farm.
Same
I always wanted a pretty farm, but I'm terrible at it. I need someone like you to come along and fix it for me xD
This post couldn't have came at a more relevant time. Currently recreating my childhood farm off memory and Google maps, it's making me go insane.
If anyone has tips for making smooth fields with hills in it, please share.
What i usually do is make a lot of spike that came from the ground with the smaller square brush and smooth it with the larger round brush
Haha yes for real mate 😅
Yup. Love building new farms. After about 48 in game months, I do a new one.
Yep… I’ve got about 3 different saves all with different farms and I wanna make a new one… I just got done recreating my grandpa’s farm and I’ve been enjoying that lately but now I wanna try to see what’s the biggest farm I can create
Yeah I can get quite carried away designing my property to perfection lmao, sometimes I'll be at it for several days XD
Yes, I spent the last three days just trying to find a new map that I liked and building several farms, just to ultimately give up and return to a map that I had 50 hours on, with the intent of slowly rebuilding and rearranging my farm.
I find myself getting lost in the astetics. I want the farm to be functional, well thought out organized into micro components, (vehicle garage where fuel tank is, silos together, seed, fertilizer etc together) and be as realistic as possible. If I can imagine me living there and being at peace then I've done what I set about to do. Now if I can only find some mods that will give me some older equipment that has the patina of being exposed to the elements but is still capable of doing the job they were created for I can start creating a legacy farm 🚜 Also what are some good maps that have lakes and streams on them with land for farming
I always design a big ass farm and buy the equipment for it, and then never farm 😭
Guilty as charged
Guilty.
I cannot even begin to farm my fields (except to harvest whatever crop is already in them) until I've got my yard set up. I've spent hours placing fences because my OCD always kicks in to make sure the wires / planks are lined up just right.
I never even thought of that. I as still kinda new at all that gaming thing but you are giving me ideas 💡😅
How do you build? The default tools to me seem very garbage (in game) is there an external map maker?
I use the in-game, but bring with me a lot of patience, a bit of OCD, and no vision what so ever. I just let the tools ans buildings guide me.
And saving, LOT'S of saving so you have a checkpoint to go back to for when you inevitably make a mistake. Word of advice aside from save often, is go slow. Sometimes a smaller brush size works better than a larger brush (for terrain painting), and removing the grass, painting, then adding in the grass/meadow afterwards is easiest.
Yep just had this conversation with my brother. I do enjoy the farming, but I just prefer having a few million to just build how I please wherever. Personally just with the landscaping tools were better.
No, but my ability to design farms is pretty pathetic. I’d probably enjoy it more if I had any creative spark left in me.
Where’d you find a pool?!
I didn't find a pool, I found water! On Modhub.

No way 🤩
Honestly I think it's the best way to make a farm, I spend hours placec stuff so it's just right.
Didn’t know you could add water 😅
Personally nope, because the building process is a pain
I hope they invest more money to make it better in the next release.
Sometimes. It can be a nice break.
Same for forklift work, sometimes I let it build until there’s an hour or two of something other than driving up and down a field.
I do enjoy laying out the farm yard and buildings for sure.
I like square fields where the AI can work the entire field autonomously so I can do stuff like this👍
I spend much of my time in giant editor making farms that I will play for10 hours and get tired of.
Yessirrrr, i build towns as well around my house so its feels like a neighborhood, also plant grass on their yards so i can mow the neighborhood
I downloaded a mod of an Iowa map. It’s been my favorite so far, gives you all the equipment you need, large fields, grain silos, ground crop storage, chicken pen, large pig pen, and a cattle pasture. It’s the first time I’ve actually tried using animals and I enjoy it. Have the AI farm while I tend to the other stuff
I always start a new FS game as a large investor who buys all the land and put a big operation hub in the middle of the map to work efficiently. Makes a lot of fun but it's a lot of work. I also play on this savegame until a new game gets released.
I do about 5% actual farming. The rest is making roads, creating parking places for vehicles, flatting out the terrain, and so on.
I have a bad habit of building farms and outfitting them with 70s-80s equipment, play a few seasons, upgrade the equipment to newer, then build something else haha
Back when I was a kid and carpet farmed, we would spend DAYS setting up the basement with multiple farms. Only only for a day or two then reset it again!
Yes and when it doesn’t look like you want it you go make one in another map
Then get bored and go to other map ?
I do lol
I actually build a whole city in hard mode on No mans land 🤣
A lot of the time, I will just use one of the money cheap things and then just build a farm.
i have 200 hours on steam and I've yet to complete a season
For me the house area becomes a parking lot for tractors, harvesters, and trucks sometimes with barns for attachments except for on 22 I just realized/acknowledged the fact I never put up barns. Industries and expansions eat my moneys
I wish we could build home from scratch!
yeah, each time i go back to play FS i do the full farm, play for 2 days and move on :D
I build full blown 18 hole golf courses lol
Literally spent 30 hours on new save yet i only harvested 1 field 😂
Yes
We don't need this kind of negative energy here!
Yep, one of my favorite things to do is start a new map and design a small to mid size farm. Then I do a few months and want to design something new haha.
