Just bought a house in a “boomer neighborhood”. When we pulled up with the uhaul I noticed the guy right across the street from me has a massive trump flag in his front yard. I was surprised since it was the 4th house on the street I saw with trump stuff out front. When I pulled into my driveway I looked back at the flag and it was a Trump for prison 2024 flag that looks identical to the Trump 2024 flags you see. Then I see his neighbor with an Ukraine flag. I then realized I moved to the better part of the neighborhood.
I love the boomer shift in attitude towards Russia, all their lives they hated the Soviet Union/Russia and now they want to be all buddy buddy with them in their genocidal quest.
‘If you think George W Bush is so bad, why don’t you move to Russia?!’ -Every boomer when I mentioned something negative about invading Iraq in 2002
Now they hate George W and love Russia. They just do whatever the TV tells them to do.
We should all hate W.
I thought I always would but then we got trump and I found myself reminiscing
Gah...I know what you mean, but...W was a shill placeholder for what the far right has been planning since the 70s. They might not have meant for it to turn out to be Trump, but all the shenanigans of Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush Sr., etc was a decades planned plot to undermine the presidency. W was a pliable tool. They spent decades plotting for this division and it kinda came back to kick them in the ass.
Goodbye, America. Land of the free. Welcome your new far right Nazi overlords.
My black soul has room to hate both
Ultimately that’s where I settle, if I had to choose though
These are the same people that had a cow back in 1992 when they learned that Bill Clinton once "visited" Russia.
“But Cucker Carlson said Russia is good therefore Slava Rossiya!”
They just do whatever the TV tells them to do.
Yes. Younger people just do whatever social media tells them. People are to easily programmed.
They admire the crony capitalism just like Putin.
This right here. Exactly. The red menace. That’s what they fought against to keep America and the free world safe. Now you know, Putin, you know, he must be ok……/s
Like Obama said, “Russia? The 1980s called and they want their foreign policy back.”
The best was when he referred to putin/Russia as a "regional" power. That had to have infuriated Putin and was probably the deciding factor in their waging war to resurrect imperialism.
In hindsight, probably the most cringe thing he ever said. Simpler times.
What makes it worse for me is that Putin is a Communist in everything but name. Former KGB agent, believes the fall of the USSR was a tragedy, wants to bring it back? Fucking Red Menace.
He’s a pure dictator. He has no love for Communism or unions.
Putin is a communist as much as Stalin was a communist. That is, not really at all. It's the absolute power they're interested in, nothing to do with a political stance.
Likewise all the jibes about Biden sh*tting himself because he’s old. The first mention of Trump’s incontinence, and suddenly the very same folks are wearing diapers in solidarity with him. What rot.
Is not boomers, it’s republicans. I’m pretty hard left and me and all my boomer and genJones friends hate Putin. These same friends also hate the orange shitstain. It’s the Republican acquaintances who love both those turds.
Exactly. It used to be “Better dead than Red!” and “Tear down that wall!” Now they’re the Red Party, calling for building walls. All without a grain of ironic awareness.
Trumpanzee, not Boomer.
Plenty of the mouth-breathing, low-wage millennials here in Pennsyltucky are all in for fat-Donnie.
They think he gives a shit about them.
I started kindergarten around '79/'80ish & I can remember that. Why can't they?
They do remember but for some reason the majority of them have this attitude that everything Biden supports is bad therefore Ukraine bad, Russia good. If Biden spoke about the importance of showering, most boomers would start rolling around in mud.
Mind-boggling
This one has really stuck with me, too. It's such a 180
Nixe!!! Sounds like a good hood!
It’s not all good. The trump flag guy regularly walks outside in just a blue speedo. Nothing else. I thought he was naked the first time I saw him. The Ukraine flag people sit on their porch all day and stare at my house. It’s pretty much all they do. Boomers still gonna boomer.
Ohhh ok... Well I guess it could be worse a trumper in a red speedo ;)!
Think of it as an added security feature, your neighbours might watch your house all day. Means the knuckleheads know the watchers are about ;).
I had a Boomer live in my old flats, yeah it was annoying them watching everything, but never got broken into! So that's a win! But yes it is weird having neighbours that watch!
It could be worse that’s for sure. This time of year there’s always a lot of break-ins in these types of neighborhoods because the majority of the boomers go back home for the summer. Neighbors on both sides of me are gone until October/November which was one of the main reasons I wanted to buy out here.
Rarely is it the people that you would want to see in a speedo that walk around in them outside of a pool setting
Little old man across the street used to cut the grass in a red speedo. Brought me cookies when I first moved in.
Uh... thanks. in trash
Tbh they could still turn out to be fun people. I kept seeing a guy sunbathing (wearing just underwear) right next to the golf course I regularly went to for years. Was disgusted at first, then got used to it. Last time I didn't see him and it turns out he died. I was actually sad and miss that bastard now lol.
Porch pirates can't rob you if they're being watched
Wait. . .you mean you don't mindlessly revolve your entire life around a politician and loudly express it in every aspect of your life? How do you expect to fit in? You must conform!!!
Enjoy your time in Florida
West coast Florida aka Arizona
Punta Gorda Port Charlotte or Inglewood
Pleasant surprise!! Phew! I'm 37 white guy, bartender. I can't tell you how many people start spouting off their right wing BS expecting me to agree... I ain't the one sir!
Work at a bank… same thing
Old retired guy here. Gray hair, gray beard, getting hunched over and walking slow. I look like a Trumper. They think I'm a compatriot and love to share. And I love to 'share' back. Fuck the fascists!
Old retired guy here. Gray hair, gray beard, getting hunched over and walking slow. I look like a Trumper. They think I'm a compatriot and love to share. And I love to 'share' back. Fuck the fascists!
I had a drunk guy at the bar on st Patrick’s day throw his arm around me and talk about loving trump and how to own the libs for 15 minutes. I was so uncomfortable but all I could do is nod my head and say things like “yeah man, crazy stuff”
But I also have older family members who are left leaning and they are equally as annoying sometimes
Lucky. I moved into a court with no flags and thought I was safe. Turns out I had three trumper families and an extremely Christian family as neighbors. I’m a socialist. We don’t talk much to the neighbors.
Support for Trump Is as much or more GenX than boomer from what I have read. Though there is a lot of debate. But don’t fall for boomer=trump generalizations regardless.
Not this GenXer nor any of my friends or family of the same generation. Those of us with more than half a brain know what a fascist, narcissistic demagogue looks like.
A certain percentage of my Gen-X classmates are Trumpers. The ones that are Trumpers don't tend to be terribly surprising.
Guy who had the half-assed stache in high school and preferred late-70s Boomer rock? Trumper. The professional arguer who despite being a Muslim argued with older socially-conservative Black Health teacher for a good ten minutes that women could ejaculate? Trumper.
It’s actually crazy the amount of people I know my age (30m) or younger who love Trump. Then you get them out of a group and ask if just for show and it isn’t. :( all these young people love Trump and all these Internet personalities. Oh and God for good measure I suppose
I'm not a Trump fan but I'd say it's about 50 / 50 with the guys I grew up with.
Same.
I see young people, like 30's with trucks plastered in Trump shit. They usually seem to be active military or vets. Which I find so weird. He'd sacrifice anyone military at a moments notice if it made him money.
Why do they support him?
The veterans I'm friends with hate Trump, but they fought after 9/11 and they are also college educated. The veterans I work, fought in the Gulf War, didn't go to college and they are Trumpettes.
I see them from late 20's to 50's I just don't get the mindset of republicans, so when you go extreme right wing I'm completely baffled
Gen X retired military here. The only Gen X Trumpers I know were idiots long before he came around and definitely not the majority.
Maybe, that's not my anecdotal experience, it's the Boomers who have time to sit around and watch right wing channels/news all the time, but again, that's only anecdotal, might not fit the population at large.
I moved to a progressive state right next to a very conservative state. Just going down my street I can see pride flags and the one dude that still has a banner up saying "TRUMP WON."
More education, more money, better hygiene = less Trump
I find anybody who feels the need to fly flags outside their home weird, regardless. At least they're not far right, but they're still weird.
I am from the UK so I'm not getting the flag thing at all. I consider myself a patriot but I have never once felt the urge to stick a flag in my front garden. It's just an observation and I am happy to be told I am wrong, but there always seems to have been a flag obsession in the USA that went nuclear after 9/11 to the point where those who didn't flag their home, car or person were a minority. Seriously, what is this flag fetishism about?
I'm an American who's lived in the UK for 35+ years, and I don't get it. I find it embarrassing and cringe worthy.
I live in the US and I’ve never understood the flag obsession whether it be having a flag flying outside your house or god forbid wearing anything that has a flag on it. I’m sorry but I think it’s dorky.
Thank you for coming here to write this post, we're ranting a lot here, but we can recognize not all boomers are insufferable feral narcissists 😆. My dad is 68 and I can't stand him anymore. Picture this: he was a mechanic for 35ish years then a union rep for about 10. Now he can't wait for conservatives to take power and shits on everything progressive. Everything he doesn't like is "extreme left". He barely goes out anymore but is obsessed with gas prices, Justin Trudeau bad, woke bad, the usual shit. Just doesn't care about leaving a better world for his grandkids, he literally told us they were voting cons because they're afraid to lose their guns. It's just baseless paranoia at this point.
Edit: sorry about your kids, it seems they unfortunately drank the Kool-Aid. Needless to say, It's extremely hard to get people back after that. Best of luck!
I can't understand why anyone who has had the benefit of a union would support the party of union-busters. And yet I've seen it so many times. Mostly in Silent and Boomer, more than a few in Gen Jones, but also in Gen X and Millenials. Offhand, I can't think of anyone in Greatest or Zoomer group doing that. Weird attitude at any age.
Edit: oops, I left my own generation out. Jonesers, like X are the perpetual middle kids of the generations.
I think it is about hardship v. entitlement. If a person was 20 at the beginning of WWII, 1941, they would have been born in 1921. They had been born in the shadow of one of the most deadly pandemics in known history. They saw how horribly the vets of WWI were damaged and abandoned. The 20’s were filled with a huge rise in racism, ultra-conservative and anti-union economic policies. Fraud was the fastest way to get rich.
That caused Great Depression to hit in 1928. The Greatest personally experienced the worst of the Depression and fully supported the New Deal, because they knew it was up to them to clean up the messes created by their parents and grandparents. WWII was just as big of a mess caused by the same people that caused the depression. The Greatest Generation was left to clean up the messes created by the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.
The Greatest did it and did so well doing it, that they created a stable, prosperous, progressive and above all much safer world for the Silent, Boom, X and Millennial generations. These generations never knew how bad it could get, so felt entitled to do the same shitty things that the generations before the Greatest had done. Particularly the Silent and the Boom. They love to bite the hands that feed them and delight in getting away with it whatever the it may be.
We Silent, Boom, X and Millennials have done incredible damage and we are leaving it to, and counting on, Z to clean up the mess we have made. Z is going to be the next greatest generation. The Silent, Boom, X and Millennials have left Z with no choice. It breaks my heart that we have done it. As vintage X, I regret I will most likely will not be around to see how amazing Z is going to be, because that are going to rock it and out do the Greatest by magnitudes. I just wish they had had a choice.
Us older X aren't standing for this shit and we will rise up against fascism
Right there with you baby.
I'm a bicentennial baby and my guitar kills fascists.
Yes, hardship vs entitlement is huge, and that is heavily influenced by the specific circumstances of your birth. So generation is part of that for sure. But theirs so much diversity within each demographic group. And even in the same environment.
For instance, my grandparents were greatest generation, two were progressive and two were conservative. My parents are silent gen and conservative; mom adopted dad's center-right politics when they married, and they have both moved -steadily- no, make that crazily to the right along with their party. My auntie is still as progressive as ever. My siblings and I are gen Jones (technically boomers but not really) Two progressive two conservative, one center left. Our millennial offspring are mostly progressive but not all of them. All we can do, imo is tolerate the differences while gently nudging/guiding when possible and celebrate what we have in common.
Why would I gently nudge somebody who wants to ban abortion and no fault divorces? Someone who tried to overthrow the government? Gently nudge them into oncoming traffic?

I just wanted to say "gently nudge into traffic." Should have kept it simple. What was the leadup and execution of Jan 6th though?
The middle and the left have been using the strategy of reason, compassion and tolerance since Nixon was elected using the racist Southern Strategy and conspiring to prolong Viet Nam. For 50 years it has been one long slow decent into Fascism. The right depends on the middle and left to being tolerant and cleaning up the mess the right has made. Until the left and the middle stop tolerating and hold the right fully accountable and make them clean-up their own damn messes, we all are screwed.
It was the middle and left people in my family tolerating the abuse that the right wing of my family that drove me away. If your family won’t stand up for you, you have nothing.
Yeah, that's my Boomer dad. Union guy, loves Reagan and Trump. Retired at 50. He believes he'd be even richer without the union. All through hard work. Granted, my dad did work hard. At the expense of all family and friends. So now he's rich and alone. Sits in one room of his big house watching news all day. Or circle jerking the echo champers he doom scrolls.
It boggles the mind.
What is Gen Jones? Never heard of this before.
Younger boomers and elder gen ex. The exact years vary depending on who you talk to. Think Barak Obama-born in the boom years but too young to remember the iconic events that define that generation. There's a generation jones subreddit
Now I've just learned about Gen Jones and the Silent Generation...my brother is Silent, and I'm boomer. My brother regularly rants about the insanity of Trump and his followers and describes his worries about the future. I live in the UK and am glad I'm not in the US. It sounds like a very scary place to me.
Edit...his sons...in their 40s...are intelligent like their dad 👨 👨👩👧
Yeah, I have to agree with you. I wish I was in the UK. I'm glad your family is sane. ❤️ your user name.
Lol! I'm glad they are sane also. I'm really having trouble understanding how my generation...the ones who campaigned for civil rights, women's rights, abortion rights, amongst so many drives for equality and diversity...have turned into narrow minded and fearful people who lack empathy. My user name reflects my cheerful nature 😄 🤣 😂
In my union based in Los Angeles, most trump supporters are pro guns and stupid. They really believe public schools teach "woke". One actually said the world knows better than to mess with the USA when we have a Republican president. Guess you can forget 9/11.
Fox News and Newsmax due to their brains what they said MTV and video games would do to ours
Do me a favor and ask him to define “woke”. I’m always interested in the bullshit they come up with.
I’ve watched as Fox News and Newsmaxx have absolutely rotted my father-in-laws brain out since he retired. He stopped caring about things and every problem in his life is now someone else’s fault.
Please everyone do what you can to get your parents off of cable news.
I’d be pretty disappointed in my kids if I was you. Sorry
Seriously, his kids are fascists supporting a traitor/rapist.
I still feel I'm reading this wrong. Dad is all good and the kids drank the Kool aid? Oh man that's gotta be disappointing.
When you say fanatics how fanatic are we talking? Do they just like Don because he's so different and "tells it like it is"? Or are they full tilt boogie bat shit crazy?

How’d that go last time? All he did was give billionaires tax breaks and rage tweet.
You should strike them out of your will.
I'm guessing they're the "real me where diapers" fanatics I've been seeing on Twitter
Yessss! I read this sub knowing many boomers who are absolutely wonderful and well-adjusted lol. But this shit is hilarious, cuz SO many boomers are, indeed, assholes.
Tbh I bring popcorn because I'm lucky to have a good bunch of boomer's around me some of this is insane. I'm from across the pond but the stories could be here too.
I'm also across the pond...but transplanted from the USA...AND a boomer. I read some of this in shock. Then remember that there are equally crazy boomers here. Glad I'm not one of them!
My mother, who is now in her 70s voted Republican almost her entire life for religious reasons. The moment Trump was elected, her entire worldview. She has since become very liberal and accepting. She realized that if conservatives elected this man, then there was something very wrong with their ideology.
I truly envy you; my grandparents are lost.
I know there’s good boomers out there and they’re such a stark difference from the others.
My father in law is one of them- he’s the most positive example of non toxic masculinity I’ve ever met. He’s genuinely kind, a big goofball grandpa to my sons, supportive and inquisitive and very non judgmental. He’s very much in the mentality of “I don’t care what you believe or identify as, as long as you’re not harming anyone else, do as you please!”
He’s a treasure for sure and I love him very much.
So glad you have an awesome grandpa for your kids. I know it’s hard not to be cynical as you start to accumulate disappointments as you live, so the face your FIL is able to overcome that is amazing. Does he have to deal with a lot of stereotypical Boomers often? I would find that hard to deal with, too
That’s exactly how my boomer father is, loving and supportive and loves to play with his granddaughters.
My mom is a boomer and a Clinton era Democrat. My dad, RIP, was an Appalachian labor union type who participated in at least one strike.
Not all boomers are bad. We know that (most of the time.) But I don’t think Trumps rise would have been possible without the boomers.
I think, the boomers had the help of the silent generation. I’m a baby boomer, 66 now and about as liberal as you can find. A definite rarity in my state. My parent were of the silent generation and both fell head first into the FOX News, Rush Limbaugh cess pool the last 2-3 decades of their lives. Both voted or would have voted had my mom not passed away, for Trump in the 2016 election.
I remember thinking as that generation passed, things would get a lot better politically and then came Trump. People my age that I knew all my life begin exhibiting the cult like attitudes of the MAGA’s. The hate, the racism, the fear of those different from them, the increasing inability for rational thought in regards to current issues, FAKE News BS, the conspiracy theories, etc. Seriously the truth could run them over and they’d still deny it. So yes, it has definitely became a boomer issue too.
So far I’m fortunate, that my four children are all as liberal as I am. For a short time, when my youngest was still a tween, she really got into church and came home spouting off about Gays and how they were sinners, blah, blah at the dinner table. Her siblings and I jumped in with both feet. Fortunately today she’s dumped that attitude and has gone full circle.
My silent gen grandparents were highly conservative (except they loved FDR). They listened to Rush Limbaugh and watched Fox News. They died in 2009 and 2010 but they 1000% would’ve voted for Trump.
I've already commented elsewhere... my elder brother is a Silent... and hates Trump and the craziness that surrounds him. He has trouble understanding the way the US is going, as do I. I'm lucky enough to live in the UK. But watching it from afar is like car crash TV. Your second paragraph...describing the attitudes of your generation...is familiar as the same fear and racist opinions are rampant here in the UK. There is no reasoning with with people like these. The fear consumes them.
My mom and dad are “good boomers” as far as politics are concerned, but their siblings…eek. My satanic silent generation grandmother is all in on Trump.
Yeah, I'm 63, Pagan Democrat, fine with me if your gay, trans, atheist, what ever.
But I don't mind this sub at all. You younger people have a right to bitch, you got served a shit sandwich and people are telling you it's peanut butter. I don't know how people expect you to make it in the U.S. today.
62 here and with ya. The older I get, the farther left I move.
My dad said the same thing when he was in his fifties. He never made it to sixty, so I can't say how he'd have reacted to the current state of things.
My 23 year old son loves Trump, but he also has an oppositional personality disorder and schizophrenia, so, it kind of makes sense. His parents and grandparents on all sides would never support MAGA or what’s become of the Republican Party.
Probably depends on lead exposure
My boomer dad can sometimes be an obstinate man who doesn't always listen as well as he should. That said, he hates trump and votes liberally, donates to similar causes as me, and for that I am so very grateful. Especially after reading so many stories on this sub and others.
I’m not saying you should spank your kids, but what is the cut off age?
If you ask my parents, there is no cutoff age. It's just about whose roof it's under. So I reminded them of that. 🤷♂️
I wish there were more of you
My parents are more left than ever at 78 and champion young voices in politics. You're not alone. I'm in the UK but our politics are fairly close in sides to yours and we have the same idiots the only difference is healthcare imo
Baby Boomers and boomers are not the same thing, as you are a shining example of this.
There are 2 houses in the neighborhood next to my office painted army green and awful grey with Trump flags. It’s wild.
Being a boomer and and a Trump supporter is not synonymous. There are plenty of old progressive folks, more likely to be fiscal conservatives / social liberals.
Living in Oregon, knowing people in urban centers and outside of them, the Trump voters have no age-based demographic representation here. If you're white, aggrieved, and under-educated/employed, then I can expect to see a Confederate or Trump flag. Because the secret isn't secret, Trump plays into the politics of division, which is the politics of the status quo. Possibly, because any time someone tries to unite the poor folks, irrespective of race or religion, they're assassinated. Those at the top will always punch down to ensure they stay there.
Same.
Awesome, you all still exist. I don't like to 'hate" any group out of hand or at all if i can avoid it, but it is nice to know the Baby Boomers generation still has folks whose minds actually work and process things logically instead of begin strict ideologs. All the best you.
My parents are boomers and they are Trump obsessed, but in the negative way. They hate the guy, but they can't stop talking about him for more than an hour. They gorge on every tiny bit of media from his various bullshit to sneer at it and his fans.
It's just as unhealthy and almost as infuriating. They aren't exactly enlightened themselves, but they think they get a pass on everything just because they vote blue.
And have they forgotten their own comments? Oh goodness they have. My mom was a huge fan of The Apprentice, and said that it would be good for America to be run like a business, and we should have a good businessman like him run for President. She cries that that was "before"... like before what? If you'd even looked the guy up on Wikipedia instead of just watching his TV show you would have seen people have been onto him for a long time.
Not all boomers are horrible people.
I'm also 65 and I too despise him. He is not only a horrible person he is a criminal and a traitor. He should be in prison for life. My son agrees with me. But my extended family who are in the South and seem to adore the moron. To be fair they usually get their information from FaceBook so I guess I should expect them to be misinformed and delusional.
My Q aunt flounced from Facebook because "they kept censoring me from telling the truth". She was constantly posting outrageous conspiracy nonsense and was extremely anti-vax. She utterly adores Trump. Q/conspiracies/Trump seems to literally be her religion now.
Between my husband and I we have 4 sets of parents, all boomers, and they are mostly all anti-Trump. Two are politically conservative and maybe voted for him but do not like him. Listening to other people’s stories I’m super thankful. Definitely not all!! ❤️
I'm 65, and a socialist who votes Democratic out of practicality. My Silent Gen parents were completely brainwashed by AM radio right wing propaganda. If they'd lives, they'd be calling me a groomer for not worshiping the Orange One.
The prospect of Trump in charge is the greatest threat to society that I have ever seen. It looks like he can't be stopped. Our one and only shot at this--and it's a long one--is to get people to vote, in numbers that will smash every record.
Don't just vote. Help as many people to vote as you can.
Welcome, brother. I (64M) voted republican in my youth. There came a point when I'd watch the news with my wife, and say "What's wrong with these guys? They're supposed to be the good guys!"
That year, I voted dem for the first time, and never went back. Two years later, they introduced Sarah Palin to the scene. I thought they had hit rock bottom with that move. Now it's clear that there is no bottom with those guys.
Boomer as well . I lean a bit right of center but that fucking idiot doesn't represent anything but a personality cult. What ever bullshit spews from his mouth is just click bait for morons. Man we need a third party. Your kidding yourself if you think.its just boomers that.love him. The lower your IQ the more likely you are to vote for Chump
Well, that’s a few sane people.
You also fall in generation jones and you guys are different. Closer to genx, or at least that’s my experience with my hubs though some of his friends are trumpers. You grew up with TV where older boomers didn’t. You had/have a lot more information than they do. For the life of me I don’t know why when older boomers learned as media increased stuck to their “ways” and deeply held beliefs even when confronted with the truth. Know better do better is what my greatest generation grandad used to say.
If you see republicans the majority are old grumpy fucks that just want to stay in power to conserve their wealth. They don’t give two shits about the public the people they are supposed to serve. Republicans block every dam bill the democrats draft cuz they don’t want to look like dumbfucks. If they really cared about the people, something would have already been done concerning gun control.
If the internet and Reddit had existed when I was 20 (1975), there would have been a subreddit called r/GrumpyOldFucks that would have served the same purpose as this community.
Why does every post that gets upvoted on this sub come from a brand new account or account that hasn’t posted in 3 years?
You guys are right though, boomers are the only one falling for propaganda
The boomer generation, while being comparatively homogeneous racially is very politically diverse.
I’m so sorry. My kids are in their late twenties but I’m only a few years younger than you. My kids are progressive as are my husband and I. Hope your kids get a clue. Good luck.
Boomer here. Hate Trump. Moving to Mexico if he wins.
No one said that all boomers are Trumpists. However, when a boomer starts spewing hatred and tries to justify it because "Trump says it's good", that's the stories you'll see here. It just so happens that it's more common than Biden Boomers.
You are a rare breed.
I am Gen X & I don’t even like the tangerine toddler . I know two people who worked with him directly & the one person who worked with him invited me to caddy at a local golf course & I met him & I didn’t even like him . The other person who worked with him is my fiancé & was his private event head expediter .
My parents are divorced. Boomer Mom loves Trump. Boomer Dad hates him. I'm late Gen-X and I hate all politicians. Both of my parents are just as as delusional, just on opposite sides of the argument.
As much as I rant here, I was just saying this about my father in law the other day.
He is 61. He used to be big into religion and right wing politics, then he saw what it got him. He's so worldly now. All it took was opening up his mind to the world (and according to him, a little weed haha.)
Wrong sub
I was thinking about this earlier, how this sub acts like it's a given truth that all boomers are MAGA, as if boomer were just a byword for Trumper. My Dad's a boomer, stereotypical to the bone, even to having gotten more and more rigid and combative in his opinions and quite unselfconsciously selfish, but there's no part of that that's even drifting rightward ideologically.
Same. 67 here, more liberal than ever.
I marched for women's rights and fought for the right to choose in the 70s. No clue what happened to many of us, but lets not clump us all together!
My mom and dad are both older Boomer age. 62 and 66, respectively.
They were (they divorced) a mixed immigrant couple with a non-verbal autistic son. Both have seen political issues ebb and flow, but it hits home when that political issue is right in your face every day. They needed government support or they wouldn't have been able to keep my younger brother.
Mom's violently left. My dad is centrist left. Both like guns and "right wing things" - my dad has an ak47 from the 90s - but vote blue. My mom fears police because she's seen how they treat her two brown children. Both despise Trump.
Thank you for being a reminder that even older folks can improve their ability to critically analyze to the best of their ability and form conclusions after working through their initial emotional responses.
So many conservatives are simply examples of people who lack emotional intelligence and respond to fear constantly.
Same here, hated the GOP ever since Reagan. All the family are midwestern conservatives who don't know better (no higher ed, never moved away from hometown), even though many worked in state government and hated when GOP got power and fired everyone. Then the other part of the family have been on the welfare dole before, yet love the GOP now cutting social programs. Hypocrites all.
My grandparents are in their 70's and they also hate Trump
My dad confided in me that the older he got the less conservative he became. I think ending up disabled and in failing health, unable to hold down even a desk job, helped him see the other side of things.
Hard work was supposed to be his golden ticket, but then he was too sick and weak for that. Then a college degree was supposed to be his golden ticket, but that was never even enough to break even on student loans. Eventually illness took such a toll on his mind he couldn't even hold down a desk job.
I'm not saying his choices didn't play a role, but I think he began to see the flaws in conservative ideology. If nothing else it was plain to see that he'd have suffered much more and died much earlier under a fully privatized system of rugged individualism.
Wow reading over the comments here just prove you don't need to be a boomer trump worshiper to be a boomer fool.
I'm your age, and I have gotten increasingly progressive as I've aged. I meet lots of college age people in my job, and it really bothers me that younger people think all people our age are Trumpers, when I couldn't hate him more. I also know LOTS more anti-Trumpers my age.
My mom is in her 80s, and she despises him, too. She was a Republican, but having a lot of trouble reconciling her morality with Trump, when the Pussy Grabber tape came out, and that was it for her. For the longest time, if someone simply mentioned his name, she would erupt in a rant, starting with "I dont know how ANY woman could vote for that man!"
My Catholic Boomer mother had no problem accepting my LGBT kid when they came out. Same goes for my Boomer aunt (mom's sister) and my older brother, an old school non MAGA Republican. My kid's Gen X mother (my ex) on the other hand? Not so much (hence why my kid lives with me now). There are plenty of awesome Boomers and plenty of awful Gen Xers and Millennials.
I’m 70. Neither I, my husband, our daughter nor her husband have ever voted Republican. We’ve never watched Fox News either.
Awesome, OP! You're #2 that I've encountered. Get the rest of the boomers on board! They're not listening to the rest of us.
61yo. #3.
That's barely boomer. I'll allow it. 3 it is.
Please help!
One of my neighbors has a Trump flag, I've got a Strawhat Pirate flag. We are not friends.
66m here and am genuinely curious. How did you end up with right wing / Trump fanatics as kids? I've been a far left Democrat all my life and my kids are the same. No doubt because of the way I raised and encouraged them. I'd really like to hear your story if you're comfortable sharing.
There definitely needs to be some balance in the discussion here. I have had some terrible boomer boss' along the line, but my boomer parents are both amazing and don't show any of the qualities shown in the subreddit
I’m the same Democrat all the way
Finding a lot of magats are getting bored of Trump. Like as if it's been a television series getting stale. Maybe they are actually getting moral.
My boomer parents almost obsessively HATE Trump; and my gen x sis seems to at least like him a little
Maybe OP is a unicorn.
My parents (boomer father and gen x boomer cusp mother) are obsessed with Trump… Because they hate him 🤣 They’re blue collar union democrats.
This post reminds me of the twilight zone the role reversal is something I never see
I'm 63 and the youngest of four, my oldest brother is 76. All my sibs are farther to the left than me.
Our mom lived long enough to vote against DJT in '16, and to unfortunately see him elected anyway. If our dad was still around, he would be losing his mind on a daily basis because of that shitheel. DJT is everything my father detested in a man.
Has this been a thing bf ? Have ppl obsessed over any politician to the point of bringing politics into so many aspects of their life ? I remember Obama flags/merch everywhere but the only ppl I remember that routinely talking abt him after the election was the right. Was this thing with Kennedy or Roosevelt ?
My husband and I lean towards the left since Bush Jr. We had 2 children, 1 Republicans and 1 Democrat. You never know how members of a family are going to act. I had 4 Trumpers in my family, 2 changed after Jan 6th. The other 2 believe whatever Fox News spews out.
Op if you are 65 I would actually say you are more Gen Jones (b 1959-ish up to 1965). You unfortunately get lumped in with Boomers but honestly didn’t have the same experiences because you were too young to experience the 50s or 60s. Yet you’re not exactly GenX either.
Same, I'm almost 50. Started left, still left, possibly more so.
May I ask why you think your kids went such a different way than you?
Sorry to hear your kids drank the Fox News Kool-Aid.
My father is the reason I'm a liberal in the first place.
He's also the reason I very carefully control my booze intake. So there's that.
That's why it's Boomer Being Fools, and not Boomers Are Fools.

I just turned 40 this year and have gone about as far left as a person can go. I've gotten more "extreme" to those around me because I live in rural Tennessee where their brains melt if you say you're Anarcho-Communist. You couldn't pick me out of a lineup of southern gentlemen.
Meanwhile, I wake up every day and do hospice work for their elderly parents and volunteer at shelters. I look around at Trump flags and Qanon stickers and just shake my head. I don't understand the obsession with their ignorance and hatred. I feel like this must be how rational people felt when they had to watch their countries be overrun by authoritarian movements.
Like Cassandra, who can see disasters coming but can do nothing to stop it.
Would you please share how this makes you feel, being very liberal with Trumpy kids?
My brother is a Trumpy - my parents (boomer father especially) are very liberal. I grew up believing Reagan and all Republicans are not at all good - we come from a long line of Democrats on both sides, in public service and unions.
The last time I saw my brother (I have since gone no contact for other reasons) was right after Trump got elected. I will never forget, it was Christmas and all is liberals were talking politics. He very confidently and proudly says, “Well, I voted for Trump!” I thought my very liberal boomer father was going to have a conniption; he kind of frantically looked around the room and turned to my young cousin next to him, frantically trying to change the subject by rattling off questions to her in quick succession, “Chloe - how is school? Who are you living with? How is your boyfriend? What is he doing for the holidays?”
I have never been brave enough to ask my father how he feels about his son…not that he’d be able to bring his bleeding heart to tell me the truth!
Convince some of your friends please.
How the heck did you raise Trumpers? Were they always conservative? Did they start out normal?
My dad is an 80 year old liberal, same with stepmom (74), aunts and uncles (all in 70s/80s). It’s definitely not true of everyone or everywhere.
May parents were both marines and my dad in law enforcement so I was pretty worried they would fall down the rabbit hole. I was so happy when they said he was a madman lol.
I'm with you. I was a republican and then trump came along. I'm 59 and most of my friends are trumpers.
I haven't voted red since 1980 when I didn't know any better
My dad was like that. It gives me hope for my old age. I hope your kids come around. Thank you for showing the saying that you get more conservative as you age is not a given.
Your vote proves this in November
Honestly I don't know how anyone 60ish can be taken in by him. We all watched in real time as he failed at business after business. And its obvious he's been crooked all along.
Similar here. My ( 63m) daughters ( 32 and 34) are far more to the right than me , center left. But part is the reason is how much of a mess we left them in. One of them didn’t get in real estate and is now frustrated by out of reach home ownership.
Cool man. Then most of this sub isn't about you. Don't be a fool in other ways.
A man who grew in wisdom. I sometimes want to start a subreddit that I'll call r/goodboomerwisdom where people like you dispense life advice.
Fellow boomer here. I have no idea why anyone (unless you’re a billionaire) could ever support this man. Total waste of protoplasm.
My coworker's 14 years-old daughter has a huge Trump flag hanging on her bedroom wall. I was like, you're 14. Is this your opinion? Don't inherit the problem, kid!
The Trump flag house in my neighborhood is also home to a registered sex offender.
It’s not a generational thing. Being a trump supporter is the result of being misinformed, ignorant, and uneducated. I didn’t finish college but I do believe in continuing education. I’m fine with conservatives, but if they cannot have an open conversation about differing views, they are out of their mind. If someone is sexist, racist, ageist, ableist, homophobic, or transphobic - usually there isn’t anything you can say for them to see a different perspective.
Having your kids being the MAGAs that you have to tolerate must be so weird. My dad is like a stereotypical toxic male boomer so it's like just one part of his overall rot.
