Any decent tutorials on making masks you could recommend?
I'll be honest in 2019 after working with clay I started learning 3d modeling from youtube. More classes, practicing and everything will work out
So are you modelling these in Blender and modifying them in Inventor?
Looks like she’s modeling them in Nomad sculpt.
do you remember which youtube videos got you started?
Seconding this
All right, what about Bionicle mask now?
It's worth a shot, but which one?
Well there are many choices!
You can go with a classic, a red Hau, however it might be a little bit clunky. If you want something with more human-like proportions, similar to your masks, Komau, Rau, Ruru or Mahiki come to mind. But if you want to stick with the classics, pakari also seems like a good choice!
Who else have seen the Sleep Token mask? 😄
Shh, don't tell anyone ))))
I'm curious, how do you print them and how much post-printing is made to make them look this good? (I mean, before the airbrushing)
All masks are different and vary in the complexity of processing after printing. On average, printing takes 36 hours, but the processing is always different I would say it is a few days, sometimes you have to redo something, not always everything is perfect.
Resin prints
That requires a quite big resin printer though... what resin would even be used for it? Most resins do seem very brittle.
I dunno man just look through their profile, shows they're doing resin for the masks.
Literally any resin. The brittleness is not a factor in making something like this. It's not a hammer.
You know what else is brittle? Porcelain, like masks of very similar style to this are made from. You could also grab just about any plastic mask in existence and snap it with your hands with minimal effort, or have them cracked when dropped.
The incredulity about resin prints is pretty silly given the subject matter.
Yeah, you have a good point. This makes me curious to give it a try myself!
Resin printer is high quality by itself.
But for traditional FDM 3D printing there are options:
Sanding
Bondo and sanding
ABS vapor smoothing
Sanding is the hardest. Bondo and sand is actually easier but can result in detail lost. ABS vapor smoothing is the easiest but you will lose detail.
Bondo beaing a filler?
I somehow think that PLA, 0.1 layerheight should be good enough, but hard to print with out annoying supports.
When you coat anything with a shiny lacquer coat, imperfections stick out really quickly.
Even a fine layer height will show up.
Anything shiny, light is not your friend in revealing imperfections.
Very cool
Tnx
Gives me Hexadecimal vibes from the old CGI series reboot. Well done.
DUDE i saw these from Pinterest like yesterday and my girlfriend wanted to make one
Anychace you have a detailed video of how you made it?
I'd love to make a pair of his and hers masks like these.
You're amazing at it! Holy hell. If I only had a 10th of your talent.
I thought that was the mimic mask from “I expect you to die 2”
I've never heard of it. I'll google it.
This looks amazing, the airbrush work really makes it pop. I print lots of cosplay stuff to paint up and by friends always roast me for painting up my prints it's great to see others doing it (a hell of a lot better than I can).
Will you show me your work?
Yeah sure, let me get home and I'll send some over. I'm not a natural painter so they are very janky.
looks really cool. nice job
Many thanks
I’m just here to say - nice!
and i love printing them, KEEP ON GOING! 😃
I like making masks as well. Right now I am tinkering with a quick change system to put on different masks. I haven't made any originals but I do quite enjoy the process.
Yooooo this is sick! Awesome!
Printing masks has always looked interesting to me. I would love to know your workflow in designing a mask. How do you develop your measurements and design?
Why is that mask so attractive
Like the black model. Does it have a nose ring too?
Id definitely play around with the blackest black paint... It just sucks the the light out of the air.
Also meant to mention that the printed version turned out awesome! Nice work!
Thank you. I've done it without the piercings so far, that's a point worth working on.
Could just print a loop cut it, then glue...
Now we need one for the purge
Wow, that's pretty impressive. What do you use the masks for?? Like decorative items or do you really wear them?
Could you educate me what goes into painting the part?
Any recommendations on how to make the base face shape? I always struggle with modeling that doesn’t use simple shapes
Those are awesome! Great work!
These are awesome!! Nice work
These are Fkn fantastic! I am quite jealous of your skill and artistry. I hope you are proud of yourself!
This is amazing! Have you taken a crack at wearable versions of the masks from High-Rise Invasion?
omg i wish i knew how to do that
Do you sell these?
No-one cared who I was until I made the mask.
amazing!
Looks awesome! Could you please tell me which software are you using ? (Blender?) I'm used to Solidworks/Fusion like programs because I mostly design mechanical parts. Lately I was thinking about sth. like your mask but to be honest it its impossible to create organic shapes like this in those programs or at least in my opinion it is much harder than in Blender for example. One more question how do you get proportions/dimensions for your mask to fit ? It's like try out method or there is mathematic way? Once more keep going with your designs they look phenomenal and I hope for some tips from you ;)
Wauw! look amazing
How ypu know the size for children and adults ?
you have the .stl file for it?
I love you making masks too. These are awesome. Keep up the great work!
💯
That is epic! Nice work!
Is it molded to your face or just generic measurements?
These are stunning! I’m still trying to figure out my process to make things this smooth-looking without delving into resin.
We happy few vibes right here
Do you have the files posted anywhere?
Wow, I'd love to see you other creations.
Do you have any socialmedia where you post your work?
Yes of course, there are tons of them, some of them are on our profile
The idea for this replica is to make a porcelain surface with a cyberpunk vibe. The eye arrows, eyebrows, and nose are separate parts, which makes it easier to paint and ensure quality. And in this copy, I made them as contrasty as possible. I don't know what else to say - I'm more than happy with the result. I'll keep experimenting with styles.
And I also want to ask you - if you were painting this mask, what colors or style would you paint it in?
