Dear rich NYC parents looking for a nanny/babysitter during the pandemic...

I understand you want to avoid public transit. It's a pandemic. I get it. But STOP ASKING FOR CHILDCARE PROFESSIONALS WHO "LIVE IN WALKING DISTANCE TO YOUR APARTMENT ON THE UPPER EAST SIDE/CHELSEA/TRIBECA" AND DON'T HAVE MORE THAN ONE ROOMMATE. THE JOB YOU ARE OFFERING PAYS 20 DOLLARS AN HOUR. NO CHILDCARE PROVIDER CAN AFFORD TO LIVE IN THESE RITZY ASS NEIGHBORHOODS ON 20 DOLLARS AN HOUR! Like, seriously? How fucking out of touch are you?

EDIT: Thank you for the gold!!!!! A slice of cheesecake for everyone!!!!!

EDIT: I really need to re-watch Arrested Development at some point huh

EDIT: People keep asking this so I'll answer it here--I'm talking about postings on Care.com and Sittercity

EDIT: Thank you for all the other awards too! I've had a rough couple of months and you've all brightened my day <3 Glad you enjoy my sass.

Dear "Vegan Mamas", Reproducing means your environmental footprint is at least twice the size of mineRANT

It blows my mind how people who claim to be "environmentally conscious" have kids. Like you are DOUBLING your use of resources--it doesn't matter how much you recycle, what you eat, blah blah blah. I could literally toss a full trashcan of plastic bags straight into the atlantic ocean, eat an entire yellowfin tuna whole, and personally coat a seabird in gasoline and I still wouldn't break even with the negative environmental impact you're making just by CREATING ANOTHER HUMAN BEING using up at least double the resources--a CENTURY'S WORTH, usually, for that matter. And diapers? Yeah. Definitely not biodegradable. So, to the "vegan mamas"? Shut the fuck up about sustainability. You don't give a FUCK.

EDIT: I myself am not a vegan but I am a VERY environmentally conscious eater and my environmental footprint is still smaller than anyone who is a parent, which is LITERALLY THE EXACT POINT I WAS MAKING, so if that's "hypocritical" to you, re-read the first part.

EDIT: A few people below have commented some variation of "most people are vegan for animal rights reasons, not the environment". If this is true, it is very confusing to me. The logic makes no sense. How can a person care about the well-being of livestock that's bred by humans for humans and somehow not give a shit about wild animals that are actually native to their ecosystems and have a chance of dying out because of human activities? Ethically, it's a bit nonsensical. Do native species not deserve rights? Why/how do you care about the survival of cows, of which there are millions and millions, but not orangutans or grey nurse sharks, which are dying out? THAT is hypocritical.

EDIT: Whoa, thanks you guys! I didn't know this would be so popular!

EDIT: Mods, please please close comments on this and archive it (but please keep it up because there may be a resulting anonymous article, i'm feeling inspired). This started off as a great discussion but the small subsection of vegans (again, a minority) that is violent, angry, and downright stupid has ruined the fun, much like many are inclined to do in real life. Idk if someone put out a doxx request on r/vegan, but the amount of personal attacks--way outside of civility, and certainly beyond the topic of a childfree lifestyle--I have received, is utterly ridiculous. It's too much for me, and all of you, to keep track of at this point. To the crazies: what my medical situation is is absolutely NONE of your business. How DARE you insult my doctor and how DARE you send me requests for suicide. How dare you. You don't know me--I have nutrient absorption issues and a severe vitamin B12 and iron deficiency. What if I was recovering from treatment for anorexia? Would you still say "Oh, B.S."? I don't know how you supposed "animal warriors" can look yourself in the mirror each night if this is how you treat people. Yes, continue to shame people for medical conditions. Yes, continue to compare cows to holocaust victims. This is precisely why so many people can't stand to be around you.

There’s an element to this no one is talking about: unfortunately evangelical Christians and other homophobes have made Israel their “thing” bc they think the rapture is literally going to happen. This is why Evangelical Christians carry Israeli flags when they march against gay rights and abortion rights.

Evangelical Christians, in the US, are the representation of anti-gay religious extremism most queers will see, as opposed to muslim extremists. Do they throw gay people off rooftops? No, but that’s only bc they have yet to succeed in making the US a theocracy. Do they pose a threat of terrorism? Yes. In the US they have sent bombs to abortion clinics as well as gay clubs.

I’m in Tel Aviv now—and a zionist queer Jew—and I don’t see Israelis recognising these hideos people for what they are. They have an overt intent to prosthelytize and convert Jews. Most “Queers for Palestine” associate Israel with these Evangelical Christians, and that is why they are reflexively against it, especially those who grew up in homophobic Christian environments.

Without Evangelical Christians Q4P wouldn’t exist.

My cousin graduated from there, has a reconstructionist congregation and was involved with JVP for a very long time—not anymore thankfully

I mean I watched Skins as a teen and was fully expecting that when I moved here as a 29 year old

They didn’t smear banana just danced around with it

LMAO Qatar is not an American ally. Not even close. They have a base. Neither is Egypt. There was a base in Afghanistan too.

That’s nice to hear—someday I really hope to see evidence of that considering what’s happening outside of Eden Golan’s hotel room.

I’m sure it’s incredibly stressful. I can’t even imagine.

Whoaaa man I never said I needed a celebration I said I wanted to be around other queer Zionist Jews lol I’m also coming later in the summer to do farm work stuff

I mean, I would think a somber parade is called a march lol.

I don’t need it to be a celebration tho to be fair, that’d be interesting to get involved in

I’m in London for the record, not the US, but that’s good to know about events! I’ll for sure be back next year as well!

I understand why Tel Aviv Pride is cancelled. I’m still upset about it.Culture🇮🇱 & History📚, Food🧆 & Music🎶

I know that everyone is mourning. I know that. But selfishly, I was really excited to go to TLV Pride for the first time this year. Not just the parade specifically I had flights booked and everything. For those of us queer Jews in the diaspora, a lot of us have lost our queer communities. Our drag clubs, our parties, our entire dating scene. These spaces are so toxic for Zionist Jews now. I lost a lot of my chosen family and every other pride parade in the world is bound to be an antisemitic shit show. The message from everywhere seems to be that Jews and Israelis who are gay don’t belong and I was looking forward to being in a space where, even if subdued, I could just be? And be surrounded by Jews who are also unapologetically queer? Again, I know this is all a very privileged viewpoint. There’s queer soldiers in Gaza, queer people killed on October 7th etc. but I don’t think that dancing always means celebrating. Sometimes it means healing. The Nova foundation has been big on that. Am I the worst? Am I alone in this opinion?

EDIT: For the record, I am volunteering on farms for a few weeks later in the summer. I haven’t forgotten there’s a war.

Also Jewish and I also love Albania!

It’s not just Eve Barlow reporting on this though.

The NYPD found a lot of this stuff in that library at Columbia.

It’s literally translated from “water to water, palestine should be arab”

I mean…because most people who are pro-Palestine support Hamas and defended October 7th. That and/or they don’t care about the hostages at all.

We should all care about civilians on both sides.

No, because she straight up calls trans women “men” now, including those who have had sex change operations, which is dickish. I didn’t think she was transphobic back in 2020 like everyone else but she’s gone off the rails now.

Agreeeeeed she is transphobic but they have no fucking right to say anything

That whoooole page and that absolutely vile video they posted
