How risky is it to book flights before we actually have a confirmed appointment booked? Is it possible to get appointments in the last minute? From what I have been noticing, appointments are usually available for the immediate week but not for far off dates so I am thinking of booking flights and then getting an appointment when the dates.

Can someone advise how long is it taking for STEM OPT to get approved these days?
I had applied for an extension back in the fiest week of January but still haven't heard anything. The uscis portal also seems to be a little confusing by giving estimates ranging from 4 months to 3 weeks which also keeps changing every few days.
