Long term relationships are work! Fics are absolutely not realistic, which is what makes them so fun!
This is a long video and it’s the only thing I’ve ever watched from this vlog (just saying that in case it has a bad rep or something): Sex Therapist on Diary of a CEO
She talks about how there’s no evidence that humans are supposed to be monogamous, so if you’re committed to being in a long-term relationship or marriage it is going to be so hard and so much work.
I have spent a lot of time thinking that there was something wrong with me because I was never “in the mood” (well, unless I’m reading some smut). But “spontaneous arousal” (getting horny AF for no reason) is extremely rare in long term relationships.
The things described in dramione are passion and spontaneous arousal which don’t happen once you’re extremely familiar with someone.
Being honest about what you want in the bedroom is really hard - hard to even know yourself and even harder to tell someone else. They might not be willing or might be hesitant. If there is a mismatch, you have to decide if it’s something you can live with.
I’ve been married for 10 years and we’ve been together for 16. We have worked on being more vulnerable about sex and it has help tremendously, just in the past 6 months.
This was all to say… if a long term monogamous relationship is what you want (and it’s ok if you don’t!), then no, you’re not going to have an earth shattering amazing passionate relationship forever, but you might in the beginning. You have to find someone you want to spend time with, and that you can be vulnerable with. Keeping your sex life and marriage alive and satisfying will be extremely vulnerable and a lot of work!
Yep! I can occasionally get one book squeezed in.
Ironically, that book is almost always a Greek (of Nordic) myth retelling. Honestly, are we going to say that’s NOT fanfiction?!
Tom Blyth as Snow in the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes… particularly at the end when he’s all cleaned up. Someone posted it here and I cannot get it out of my mind!

I can’t believe I had to scroll down so low to see this. It was so funny I actually kicked my feet sometimes. 😂
If you like the idea of keeping track of your fics in that way, I recommend StoryGraph. Fics are on there but marked as “not books” so the only thing shared publicly is mood, pace, and content warnings (which are pulled from a list, not free form). Ratings and reviews aren’t visible.
Agree. I’m “new” here (since January) and I started because of seeing manacled on TikTok. However, I never did anything to jeopardize the “free” status of fics and, therefore, never felt the anger/fear was directed at me.
Honestly, this is the nicest/friendliest subreddit I’ve ever been in.
I don’t write it, but read and listen to it constantly. Like others have said, he’s benefited from the smut as I’m typically not in the mood without it. I just started reading fanfiction in January at age 34 in a 16 year relationship (married for 10), so it was something new I started.
I don’t think he understands the appeal, but he doesn’t judge me/make comments/etc.
I’m sorry that happened to you, but it seems like maybe you felt like you needed to hide it from him- and turns out you were right. Better for it to end so you can find someone you’re comfortable bringing your whole self to.
I’m planning to listen to it after LIATOTZA! So excited!
I’ve managed to stick to constantly finding new hobbies!
I’m not sure what you mean by “stick” but I have ones that I come back to regularly, but I’ll take long breaks. Usually, these are things that are somewhat “mindless” that I can do while listening to podcasts or audiobooks. Examples: knitting/crocheting, paint by numbers/coloring, hiking/walking, etc. I’m also more likely to do something if I’ll get something useful out of it… like I’ll crochet or knit late summer and fall so I can make Christmas gifts.
Yes, there’s unfortunately always a waitlist for AO3.
Yes, you’ll have to actually download the file from the google drive onto your device and book player is a separate app you’ll have to download. There’s a post in r/audiobooks that talks about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/audiobooks/s/5PArlCpvsR
If you loved manacled I recommend the Rights and Wrongs series. It’s three fics- the first two are the same story but the first is Hermione’s pov and the second is Draco’s. The third (the auction) has the same through lines but is AU Voldie wins. They have have recordings for them, but I haven’t listened- I’m sure they’re fantastic though.

I recommend using the app “book player” to listen to it when you download it.
I’m listening to the last 10 min of it right now!
I read those but I’m going to listen to hers eventually! I’m planning to listen to her recording for the Debt of Time - that’ll take a while!
You can download their stuff on AO3
I know they are taking their stuff off Spotify so if it’s still there it won’t be for long. Might be on other podcast services.
If you download the files from AO3, I recommend getting the “BookPlayer” app and loading the files there - works like a charm!
Her recording of DMATMOBIL is fantastic, even if you've already read it.
I also shouldn't say she isn't an author, maybe she is? But I am only familiar with her audiobook work.
She is not an author but a narrator for "ETL Echo" - If there's a fic you're interested in reading and she's done a recording of it, I highly recommend.
I searched "measure of a man" to see if anyone else had the same thoughts as me. I did DNF it after ruminating about it for a while. It has so much potential, but it just needs to be edited. There's slow burn, and then there this... I shouldn't read over 1000 pages and still have a barely existent relationship. If there's ever and abridged version, I'm sure I'd love it. Although, I do find Hermione insufferable in this.
From around the 60% to the 80% range I DID NOT STOP CRYING. I tried to read in a coffee shop and I had to leave due to sobbing. The end is a gut punch - I think about it constantly.
I loved it so much that I immediately listened to the ETL Echo Audiobook after I finished it.
Although it is "dark" I didn't find it disturbing. It was just extremely emotional. Granted, I think I have a very high tolerance for "dark." The only fic that I stop reading because it was too dark was Secrets & Masks (and that was more because I found the Dramione relationship unappealing, found Draco to be irredeemable).
There are so many aspects of it that I love, but it’s too slow 😢 I stopped reading at 70%, I may finish it eventually. I actually feel bad for stopping though, like I abandoned Scorpius
Any stories where they’re in their 30s that don’t act like your 30s are “ancient”? 😆
Dramione
