UCPH Housing - BaseCamp vs Signalhuset

Hej! I will be studying abroad the University of Copenhagen (KU) this coming fall and I’m currently looking for housing. My program recommends renting through the Housing Foundation, although I’ve seen some pretty horrid reviews — but it seems risky to go through Facebook groups and not living with students seems like it can be isolating. I do value having a social atmosphere and getting to explore the city!

The only two reasonable options through the Housing Foundation seems to either be BaseCamp in Copenhagen City or Signalhusset (many of the other forms require staying for two terms, which I cannot do). I will be studying at the South Campus, so they’re both a similar distance from my classes. I would either be in a shared studio or single studio at BaseCamp or a single room in an apartment at Signalhusset.

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with either of these accommodations and what your thoughts are.

Thanks!

there’s certain criteria that will grant you calfresh without needing to work 20 hours (like receiving cal grant). just be honest in your application and if you qualify, then you qualify. also, be sure to pick up all calls you get when you’re awaiting your interview because it can be tricky to get in touch with them. good luck!

You can pay for rent anywhere with financial aid, as you’ll receive a refund with the rest of your financial aid that doesn’t go towards tuition/ fees.

waitlists open pass 2 bc you need 12 units to waitlist a class

maybe take the place in iv since it’s guaranteed. you can use your financial aid towards any rent (off campus apt, unaffiliated iv apts) since they refund you the extra money fin aid money that doesn’t go towards tuition.

i wouldn’t say it’s necessarily easy, but if you manage your time well and take the right classes, you should be able to do it all in 4 years! like another commenter said, psy 102 overlaps with comm UD and so do some other psych class + comm class for psych (and so does psy 10a and stats for 2/4 comm pre major classes). you can definitely do it if you put your mind to it :)

if you’re asking about putting down a deposit on a lease and then trying to switch leases if u got into sierra, i’d assume they would take it, but they also do have a waitlist to fill your spot. best to ask the property manager

i lived in capri and they took half my deposit (my deposit was $550 last year) even tho i deep cleaned the apt and we left it in perfect condition when we left.. i had a fine experience with them but ik ppl in the complex who didn’t (mold, mushrooms growing in their apartments, water leaking….)

just don’t park on dp or busy streets on the weekends

yes comm is v doable, i’m pbs and comm and have room to study abroad and potentially do a minor. ik people who have doubled in econ and a lot of ppl also do applied psych minor or professional writing minor.

go thru readings (she sometimes put like a small detail on a figure) and look at ur past tests if u can! it’s a hard class but it was curved if i remember quickly. good luck!!!!

if the class or section just a couple spots during pass 2 or 3, it’s probably best to assume there’s a waitlist. some people will drop or switch the class and open the space, but the waitlist hasn’t let people off yet

try joining other ones, there’s at least another 3 groups that are pretty active

Subleasing Under The TableIV/Goleta/SB

Hello, I'm trying to sublease my apartment over the summer and doing it through the leasing company costs $350 and requires a deposit from the subleasee. I was wondering what others' experiences were subleasing under the table? Thanks!

no i don’t think the arbor subway does ): some fast food places take ebt cash but cal fresh is ebt food

Helped me find an ebook to a textbook I couldn’t find anywhere online and was so sweet! Thank you :)

does your unused financial aid go towards your off campus apartment rent? i’m thinking of doing off campus next year and most of my room in board is covered rn so i wasn’t sure if they would give me the aid towards my rent

Why does gauchospace’s grading include empty grades? I liked when you could see your current percentage standing, instead I have a 5-30% in classes I’ve completely kept up with
