Tell them in an age appropriate way. Facilitate their education. Don't preach or dictate. Provide the age appropriate resources so they learn on their own. Be there for their questions. Ask them question about what they already know and how they feel about it.

No rebound yet monetary and fiscal response will expand greatly to "fix" the problem. Because that's what they always do. Except this time it will make matters much worse.
