Almost 11 years. Rob was hired as herd manager at Berrow Farm in January 2013, and he died at 9.09pm on Saturday, 18 November 2023.

But the storyline will continue, especially when Jack receives his inheritance, circa 2034.

GPS drift, someone playing while flying, a phone attached to a drone, or someone spoofing their location.

Why hasn’t Robert checked the CTV and doorbell cameras?

Go Ask Alice (1971) by Anonymous was marketed as the diary of a 15-year-old in Coos Bay, Oregon. An editors’ note said “Names, dates, places and certain events have been changed in accordance with the wishes of those concerned.”

But Go Ask Alice is copyright Beatrice Sparks, a Mormon youth counselor, as are Jay’s Journal (1979), supposedly written by a 16-year-old satanist, and seven other “real diaries.”

Fall 2023 was a “mast” year (meaning more than usual) for acorns and other nuts, which led to a population explosion of squirrels (who have 2–7 young in a litter). They’re displaying erratic behavior and taking more risks to gather their food supply. (Folklore says squirrels gathering nuts early is a sign of a hard winter to come.)

Those who obtain Connecticut firearms or archery hunting licenses can hunt gray squirrels from Jan. 2 to Feb. 28 and Sept. 1 to Dec. 30. The daily limit is eight per person, and 40 each season. Hunting hours run from a half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset.

For those who haven’t heard of the Wrong Shoe Theory popularized by Allison Bornstein, author of Wear It Well: Reclaim Your Closet and Rediscover the Joy of Getting Dressed (2023):

https://www.glamour.com/story/wrong-shoe-styling-ideas

Say you’re headed to the office in a corporate casual look—a pair of trousers, a silk button-down. Instinctively, you may reach for a ballet flat or maybe a kitten heel. Something demure and conservative. But what if you reached for something different? Something that feels, well, wrong? To me, that “wrong shoe” would be a vibrantly colored sneaker. To you, it might be a thong sandal. There’s a chance you hate the combination, in which case, skip it! But there’s also a chance that the “wrong shoe” is the secret ingredient that’s been missing, the accessory that makes your outfit feel more like you.

For those of us who grew up in the era of “fashion dos and don’ts,” practicing the wrong-shoe theory can be a way of rebelling against those ingrained rules, the ones that were passed down in dressing rooms by mothers who could never dream of wearing sneakers with a formal dress or would break out in hives at the thought of wearing black pants with navy boots. According to Bornstein, the theory is that a little “push” can help you find new ways to shop within your own closet and shake up stale or formulaic fashion habits.

Graham Seed and former Archers writer Helen Leadbeater did the unauthorized Pargetter Triptych podcast in 2020: https://youtube.com/@thepargettertriptych9050

The BBC expressed “copyright and commercialisation concerns,” and I never heard about them giving Seed his own podcast: https://twitter.com/theghostofnigel/status/1290665716115546120/photo/1

I use Noxzema. But then again, I am an old lady.

My great-grandmother used it. Introduced in 1914.

All About the Archers drops on Tuesdays, and only discusses Sunday’s, Monday’s, and Tuesday’s episodes.

It’s under 20 minutes.

Hello from New Haven!

I like Ambridge on the Couch, Shambridge*, All About the Archers, and The Cider Shed. The Academic Archers have a sporadic podcast.

*When Kirsty was behaving so strangely with Mick last month (“gluten-free baked goods exist?!”, etc.), I actually thought Harriet Carmichael was doing her voice.

Will guilted Nic out of going to the police after her hit & run, so he’d probably cover up for George.

The script editor wanted Greg, the gamekeeper for Home Farm and Berrow, to be murdered and for Ed to be wrongly imprisoned.

Instead, Greg killed himself and Brian cheated on Jennifer with Siobhan: https://amp.theguardian.com/media/2014/oct/14/bbc-radio-boss-archers-murder-storyline

Alistair is 61, and the actor who plays Denise is 58.

Peggy paid for Christine’s rehab after she tripped over Hilda and broke her hip, but not for The Laurels.

Christine moved to The Laurels to get away from Hilda, only for Peggy to bring Hilda with her. I hope she advocated for having Hilda rehomed.

What if Fallon and George are at some “event,” get plastered and hook up?

Fallon will be 39 next month. George is 18—and a misogynist.

Did Joy have a concussion? Did she imagine seeing Rochelle?

I’ve decided Joy is a law enforcement agent originally embedded next door to Philip Moss to investigate the human traffickers, including the one Blake calls “the grey man” and the woman who bought Blake, Jordan, and Kenzie.

It makes Joy’s dialogue more fun, like when Susan interviewed her to volunteer at the village shop. (A perfect cover to gather intel.) Or when the owners of the house across the street told Azra that Joy’s a nosy busybody. Helen tried to change the subject, and Joy quickly said they were talking about someone else.

When Henry and Jack unboxed Lee’s action figures, Joy told Helen to put them back in the box and never tell Lee. She knows how to deescalate situations (like Ben’s psychotic break).

The only evidence contradicting this theory is that Joy drives an MG Midget. Unless it was a ploy to meet the wettest person in Ambridge, Tony, and get involved with village life.

I thought it was a way for the scriptwriters to write off Roy. He’ll go live with Lexi in Bulgaria.

Maybe Rex will move into Willow Farm with Kirsty.

The September 23, 2023 press release said part of the Criterion Cinemas would be converted to new amenities for the Temple Square Apartments: https://web.archive.org/web/20230928180039/https://d2f1dfnoetc03v.cloudfront.net/Files/PRESS-RELEASE-Criterion-Cinemas-9-26-23.pdf

Bow Tie Partners plans to remain part of the downtown New Haven community and is currently evaluating multiple scenarios for redevelopment of the movie theater space, several of which include new entertainment offerings.

Nestlé Quik (introduced in 1948) was always sold as Nesquik in Europe. The name was changed worldwide in 1999.

I miss prying up the metal lid with a spoon. I’d sprinkle the powder on vanilla ice cream.

George’s intentions came from a good place and although in general he is a pillock he does show his dad, grandma and siblings affection and care.

Could you give some examples?

George helped decorate Poppy’s shirt to gain access to Will’s phone. He took his mum to dinner at Grey Gables because Will told him to.
