Hi! I’m an addict gratefully in recovery (drugs and alcohol) and am eager to make some connections with likeminded folks in the New Haven area. I’m committed to the NA program but am curious to meet a wider network of friends and resources to share wholesome support and understanding. I’d greatly appreciate any input from anyone in recovery in the New Haven area who might have suggestions as to making the most of life in this area without drugs :)
Check out Daily Nutmeg's weekly events email. Though not about recovery, it's a great way to meet good people with a bunch of different interests who might help you find your new community. Best of luck!

A few different gyms in New Haven offer free "move to heal" sessions weekly. Not solely for folks in recovery, but most are. Great place to meet other folks on the journey and do something fun and positive.
Also... I could have this wrong, but I believe if you attend a certain number of sessions you get a free membership to the gym as well.
The gym I go to (Ascent) offers them on Tuesday evenings I believe.
Honestly, as a former addict (now 11 years sober), for one congratulations! Best thing you could do with your life!!! I have been to NA too and used to attend a church recovery meeting every Friday night for years. I made a ton of friends and found real purpose for my life when I joined a church and started volunteering. I started cooking for events and soup kitchens and got involved in men's ministry. I basically started over once I became sober, lost all my "friends" and some family. I made many great and real friends at church (Cornerstone Christian Center in Milford) and even meet my wife there. Definitely worth checking out...
You might also enjoy honing game nights at the Elm City Games. Look for local sober/clean meetups!
I’m just your average social drinker with a father gratefully in recovery!!! One fantastic thing about New Haven is the plethora of cafés. We keep it simple with the Dunkin’ Donuts on State, but we’ve also enjoyed Gather further down State, G Cafe on Orange, G Cafe on York, Book Trader on Chapel, and Pistachio in Westville. I used to be a huge Koffee person (Audubon) but now find that it sucks. It’s still fun to get something and sit outside (maybe it’s just the indoors that sucks).

Deleted since this is correct, my mistake.
Hi! You might want to check out CCAR
As previous commenters have said, Move to Heal is great, CCAR is a great way to not only meet likeminded people but also to give back, there’s a sober softball league that plays in East Haven, those are great ways to start. Move to Heal has their own team in that softball league so you could talk to them about playing if you wanted!
Have you gone to the Move to Heal meetings? What are they like?
Feel free to DM :)
They’re great. You do a group workout, then there’s a non-denominational meeting. It’s not just for people in recovery which is awesome. I haven’t personally been to the meetings because I work in the industry and want to maintain the professional boundary and not be working out with the clients I care for, but my friends go to the groups and some even work for them and they’re great folks!
Awesome!! I can't believe I haven't heard about this before. Is the workout accessible for all fitness levels?
Yep!
Go to events at Witch Bitch Thrift! They are a sober space and have a room for performances, art and more. You’ll make a lot of friends there!
