I agree wholeheartedly with this, its an incredibly stupid decision that i feel actively discourage testing new weapons. For reference i jumped to Re4 remake mid playthrough and slogged through the rest of the game. But i digress Re actually gives you different ammo so that you dont just use the same gun for everything and actually carry different weapons for different purposes.
