I just don't get why so many hates the ending. It makes perfect sense for Dexter.

This was a culmination of everything we’ve seen him do and feel over the previous 8 years.

In no particular order… Dexter tells us over and over that monsters don’t get happy endings, and he tells us continuously that he is indeed a monster.

Multiple times throughout the series he talked about faking his death, changing his name, (we've already seen his getaway bag with fake passport and licenses and bundles of cash) and starting over. In season 7 “Harry” tells him “ that was always the plan”

Specifically mentions the NW as a new home base in at least 1 other episode ( season 6 Nebraska episode)

In season 4 he talks about how being a long distance truck driver would be a perfect job for a serial killer.

Always talks about how he cannot protect his loved ones, "I'm what's wrong."

He rejects the idea of suicide. "It's pathetic"

Faking his death and moving to the NW is exactly what Dexter would decide to do. (

In season 4 when Deb is shot he says that if Deb were to die he’d be lost

Losing Deb was too much, he is overwhelmed with grief and guilt, although he did indeed carry out her wish, expressed in the Perfect Key Lime Pie episode.

He can't bear the idea of something happening to Harrison and Hannah.

This is Dexter showing totally unselfish,,sacrificial love, he is putting the well being of his loved ones above his own happiness, ( it’s also exactly what his own bio dad had done, fake his death and leave his beloved son to be raised by someone he deemed to be better for the boy)

Dexter nearly abandoned all three of the children after Rita’s death, that time he changed his mind, this time doesn’t know exactly where H &H will land and he tosses his phone in the ocean to prevent himself from changing his mind again.

First those complaining he should have left Harrison with someone else, any one else, please remember up until the moment Dexter realizes he has to euthanize Debra, he fully intended to join H & H and live happily ever after. By time he made his ( snap) decision to abandon them, they were already a couple of hundred miles away, boarding a plane leaving the country.

Dexter also knew Harrison would be safe with Hannah, she and the boy loved each other and Hannah would literally kill to protect him if necessary.

Hannah also didn’t have an overwhelming urge to kill. She wasn’t going to be actively searching for people to kill. She did not shrink from it if she felt it was necessary for her survival, but she took no joy in it. It was merely a tool to be used if needed.

I think an exhausting hard labor job was exactly what he would choose for himself, both as a punishment and as a way to keep the demons at bay. Working in a noisy environment would mean no need to socialize without looking like the weird non-communicative guy.

Do I love how he ended up? No, I would have preferred Deb survive and get back with Quinn and Dexter, Hannah and Harrison live happily ever after in Argentina. (Especially since S8 showed that Dr. Vogel used little Dexter as a science experiment instead of trying to help him overcome his trauma "I convinced Harry your urges couldn't be stopped only channeled")

But Dexter's final choice was exactly appropriate for the character. He often made poor decisions based upon his lifelong belief that he was an unemotional subhuman monster, and I much preferred knowing he was out there somewhere, still alive, with stories yet to be told ( even if only in my own imagination).

I would have absolutely hated seeing him die or worse, exposed as the BHB, )a stain that would also follow and haunt all three of the children, as well as his fellow Miami Metro employees,) and jailed, living out the rest of his life in a tiny cage.

They would only notice the tampering if they looked for it. They had no reason to check the logs.

That’s true, they’re just mixed up about which is which

I have often seen people questioning why Quinn would drop his investigation of Dexter after Liddy’s murder. In my opinion, that made perfect sense and was entirely in character for Joseph Quinn. Joey was a pragmatist and he was not a hero.

First of all, Deb (whom he loves desperately) has made it clear that any criticism of her beloved brother will end their relationship. Joey values his own happiness above any abstract views of “justice must be served” but there are also more practical and pressing reasons to drop the investigation from Quinn’s perspective.

Lumen suddenly appeared in Dexter’s life after the barrel girls were found, in fact the first time Quinn sees her with Dexter is at the site where the girls were found after the truck crash.

Quinn has pictures of Dexter and Lumen carrying heavy garbage bags into his boat late at night, right around the time that the suspects in the barrel girl murders are mysteriously disappearing

Deb has also planted in Quinn’s head the idea that the suspects are being killed by a vigilante couple...and those photos...

When they are on the way to the site of Liddy’s murder Quinn asks Dexter what he thinks happened...Dexter calmly replies he has no way of knowing, but Quinn clearly thinks Dexter did it and was hoping Dex might slip up and reveal something, after all, Liddy had called Quinn to come and arrest Dexter, so he knew Dexter had been there with Liddy shortly before his sudden demise.

As far as Quinn knew, Dexter had no idea that he was involved with Liddy’s investigation ( of course we, the audience, know better)

Liddy, a tough and street wise cop was killed with one expert knife thrust; obviously his killer was a formidable opponent.

Quinn no longer suspects Dexter is up to something, he KNOWS Dexter is dangerous and that he killed Liddy and probably is the vigilante Deb is looking for.

He also thinks Dexter was masquerading as Kyle Butler and was somehow involved with Trinity (and he’s still not 100% certain Dexter is innocent of Rita’s murder).

Quinn would like a happily ever after with Deb, but mostly he would like to stay alive and out of jail.

Keeping on the good side of Dexter is very important if he is to achieve any of these goals.

Dexter has already shown “good faith” by not turning Joey in for stealing money from a crime scene, then he clears Quinn of being a suspect in Liddy’s murder by lying in his report and denying that the blood on Quinn’s shoe is Liddy’s, when Quinn knows for a fact that it must be.

Joseph Quinn may be many things, but stupid ain’t one of them. He has decided that Dexter is off limits and he treads very carefully where Dexter is concerned thereafter, always treating him with respect.

When Deb brings him to Harrison’s first birthday party he thanks Dexter. Dexter replies "For what?" "The blood work" "just doing my job" "I owe you one" When in season 8 Dexter mentions to Quinn that he heard he might be getting back with Deb, Quinn asks, “Is that ok with you?” He never questions Dexter’s hours or activities publicly again , whereas he was very in Dexter’s face before that.

I always felt like that Desmond Harrington did a great job in that scene in Season 7 when LaGuerta marches Dexter in in handcuffs. He keeps his face completely passive, he makes eye contact with NO ONE, he seems shrink into himself as if trying to make himself completely invisible.

He absolutely does not want anyone, especially Debra or Dexter, to see any inkling that he might have known about Dexter’s activities. There is no upside for him if anyone finds out. If Dexter suspects he tipped LaGuerta off, his life is probably in danger, if LaGuerta learns he knew he can be charged as an accessory after that fact, or at best, lose his job.

At the end when Dexter kills Saxon/Vogel/Brain Surgeon it is absolutely obvious that kill was cold, calculated, expertly performed and that there was absolutely no panic in the slow deliberate pressing of the panic button. Joey looks Dexter straight in the eye, nods (a silent, “well done, brother”) and loudly declares, “Obviously a case of self defense.”

Deb didn’t die off screen. She had a stroke off screen but she died in Dexter’s arms after he removed her life support.

Wouldn’t Harrison be long for Harry?

They’re just starting a tour this month. You can get information and tickets at Princessgoes.com

I’ve been going to their shows since 2019.

I laughed so hard when Dexter jumps down and just completely disappears because the truck is so jacked up

Are you trying to fk her or set her on fire?

Debra being in love with Dexter was taboo. Dexter is shocked by her statement. Debra herself is shocked by these feelings and her dreams.

She tells him “ you’re a serial killer and I’m more fkd up than you!”

The idea behind this “twist” was to help make Debra more ambivalent about the “right” thing to do about Dexter and his hobby.

Miguel gave Dexter the shirt pretending it was the shirt with Freebo’s blood on it. The shirt must have been easily identifiable as belonging to Miguel ( perhaps custom made). This was done to convince Dexter that he had a means of linking Miguel to Freebo’s murder should Miguel ever betray him.

It was to show Dexter that Miguel was trustworthy.

Of course Miguel was NOT trustworthy and the shirt was only a ruse. This is why Dexter is so furious when he discovers that it is cow’s blood.

That's why MCH squashed the idea. He said it was the only time he interfered with a storyline.

The writers planned to have Louis revealed as a serial.killer

So you don’t believe killing and dismembering people is inherently morally repugnant. Got it.

Lundy calls Dexter out for a bad blood report which Dexter first tries to defend, then blames in overwork. But the truth was he intentionally let the guy walk so he could kill him. So Dexter has been doing this all along.

If Deb hadn’t died , Dexter would not have left Harrison. Up until that moment he planned to go to Argentina with Hannah and Harrison. Also Dexter was a truck driver.

And you just continue to defend the immoral behavior completely missing the original question.

Here it is again:

“Who do you think is the most morally repugnant character that fans tend to defend?”

I answered the question with the name of a character . You are continuously defending the actions of said character.

The questions was whose immoral behavior do fans defend NOT was Dexter’s behavior justifiable.

Killing and dismembering people is morally repugnant ….you are continuing to defend this behavior, thus proving my point that Dexter is the most morally repugnant character that fans tend to defend.
