Just finished the show. My question is, why is the finale so badly reciveved? I didn't think it was that bad at all.
He’s a truck driver not a lumberjack
Jennifer had it in her contract that Deb die at the end of the show
I was today years old when I found out Dexter became a truck driver not a lumberjack lol
But in all seriousness, was that confirmed somewhere? It's actually the first time I'm learning this.
Season 4 Stan Beaudry….
And you see Dexter get out of a truck and unchain the load of logs
And you see Dexter get out of a truck and unchain the load of logs
Oh, and this happened in the OG series finale or New Blood? Tbh I don't remember a lot of either of those seasons lol
“Sort of” just said it because that’s what most other people refer to it as. And whether the actor wanted her character to die I believe it was still an utterly useless death.
If Deb hadn’t died , Dexter would not have left Harrison. Up until that moment he planned to go to Argentina with Hannah and Harrison. Also Dexter was a truck driver.
Can't call the sources but the OG show runner apparently wanted Dexter to get caught and die in the end with the lethal dose just like the flashback scene in s2. He'd be surrounded by portraits of his previous victims. But showtime didn't want him dying lmao
I've always wanted to have Dexter get found out, go on the lam, get captured, and then face judgment as his peers, friends, and coworkers are in shock and judge him.
The show ended in a way where the powers-that-be didn't have the courage to have Dexter face responsibility for his crimes.
Im in the minority that actually liked the finale.
They had two believable options to end the show :
Kill Dexter
Dexter gets caught (he would then die from the death penalty)
Giving him a good ending wouldn't be believable for the tone of the series, neither would having him suicide to avoid getting caught.
They basically went with option 1, however instead of killing him physically, they killed him in every other means. Killing Deb was like removing his biggest anchor.
Now I wouldnt say I utterly enjoyed it either, but I think it's because the season has a whole felt rushed.
I liked it.
I think the two sides of Deb losing him (when she saw him in church) and him losing Deb are amazing. She recovers eventually but he can't.
I think him not getting a good life with Hannah is perfect cause he really doesn't deserve it. Can't just give a "forever after" to a serial killer. Makes perfect sense. As the hurricane approaches and he says goodbyes to her and Harrison - we basically know that he's not going to see them again.
All that makes sense to me. Love it.
The thing that had me ecstatic was Quinn. His last words "welp I guess it was self defense" was so fucking perfect in writing and delivery. I don't know whether Batista knew but I guess at that point Quinn knows who Dexter is (after he got away with that boot situation) and learnt to keep his distance and also just completely on Dexter's side for killing Deb's murderer. And they both saw how unemotionally he stabbed him in the neck. Just loved that whole sequence.
Also Dexter burying Deb with the rest of his victims is kinda poetic. Cause Deb is one of them, in his mind he straight killed her.
I didn't think it was bad either, though I thought it would have been more poetic if he had actually died in the hurricane. I actually couldn't stand Deb for most of the show, but her character arc made me really sad
Me too. I think I remember it fades to black before it cuts to Dexter alone in the cabin or whatever. When it faded to black, I was satisfied. I thought that I was a totally appropriate ending. It left it open-ended because without a body, we don't really know if he actually died. Then they basically added a post credits Marvel scene and pretty much ruined it imo
Imo the whole last episode was just really depressing. Maybe it's because I've just watched it but I really don't think it's bad.
Agree. It would have been better to leave us guessing.
I’ve said this but I don’t mind the whole him becoming a sort of Lumberjack and living in solitary. It’s everything else that sucked balls. Debra dying was a big mistake. She should’ve been the one to take care of Harrison. Her having a whole character arc to then just die and Then end up in the water like one of Dexters victims was fucked and we don’t talk about new blood.
