As someone who lives in Oregon, I find this hilarious. Wild caught salmon is the norm here, particularly if you are the west side of the state. And there is a reason there is a color called “Salmon Pink” - a healthy, wild caught salmon has a beautifully, rich pink color inside before it is cooked.

Agreed, but I think there are also a lot of issues at play and some of it just takes time to work itself out. A lot of rural counties relied on federal timber subsidies for decades which funded county services in most rural counties. Those had decreased significantly right around the same time as a lot of the tax-related ballot measures in the 1990s (thanks Bill Sizemore /s), which really mucked up the funding mechanisms for local governments.

I love WCCLS! They are a fantastic library system.

There is a fireworks tent at the Fred Meyer on 99W in Tigard (just where SW Portland becomes Tigard and Barbur becomes 99W) that has everything you are looking for.

What I was referring to in Josephine County is that they rejected multiple tax votes over the years to fund the sheriff’s department, but I believe that finally changed last year. That was also the case for the libraries in Josephine County from 2007 until 2017.

That is less than what your average Multnomah County property owner pays in taxes toward the library every year. What has been happening in some parts of the state, like in Douglas and Josephine counties, is that residents no longer want to pay taxes for certain services, vote against tax levies to fund those services, and therefore those services cease.

I recommend the book “Roadside History of Oregon” by Bill Gulick.

Oregon has a Library Passport program that gives you access to other library services and online resources around the state. Here are all of the participating libraries:       https://www.olaweb.org/passport-directory               Multnomah County also allows you to access their services for $180 annually if you don’t have access through other programs https://multcolib.org/library-account-basics/library-card-options

What does authentic mean to you? I have found that people coming from Southern California or Texas, etc have different conceptions of what Mexican food should be.

If you can hear it, the Merlin app should be able to pick it up. There can be dogs barking, people talking, etc. and it will pick up the bird sounds. The only time I have seen it have difficulties is if there is a lot of consistent, loud background noise (e.g. an air vent near a building making a consistent whirling noise, etc.). Report back when you find out what it is!

Seriously, the app is amazing and a lot of fun. It is really good at pick it up bird sounds and helped me identify a lot of birds in my neighborhood.

I have used the CARES harness on Alaska Airlines multiple times and it worked well without issues. Here is what I have https://a.co/d/00W2plgd

What ages are the kids and what would babysitting involve (e.g. any special circumstances, driving, cooking, etc)? For my early elementary school kids (so their needs are no longer overly involved) I pay our babysitter $17/hour to watch one kid and $20/hour for two kids.

This so terrible reporting and a fear mongering headline. None of these animals tested positive this year related to the most recent outbreak, which is what it sounds like from the headline and subhead. While it is good to be mindful and know what to watch for, this kind of reporting is not totally helpful from a public health perspective.

The Autism Society of Oregon does lots of different types of meet-ups and events https://autismsocietyoregon.org/events/

There is a Dollar General in Elgin that opened up a few years ago, so I think they have seen the impacts of that, and don’t want it to happen in Wallowa.

No, absolutely not in Portland hiking areas. I’ve lived here my whole life hiking and camping around the state and I’ve never seen a black bear. They absolutely exist, but your likelihood of ever seeing one while hiking is extremely small.     Edit: The only bears in Oregon are black bears. From ODFW’s website: Black bears in Oregon occur in the Cascade Range and west to the Pacific Ocean, and in the Blue and Wallowa mountains; the species is absent from arid regions of central and southeastern Oregon.

I recommend The Palm in Ashland. It looks like an old roadside motel but they have turned it into these cute little cottages. The grounds are super peaceful and relaxing and they have a salt water swimming pool and cabanas. Then you can walk into town, get some good food, see some theater https://www.thepalmashland.com/

It’s really good chocolate too.

It is such a shame. It is such a beautiful piece of art that should be more associated with the city. I’ve lived here my whole life and I honestly forget it even exists.

Harvest Moon Sangria Bar is doing a rainbow flight of sangria.

Just one of the things that makes PDX one of the best airports!
