I’m flying with twin 2 year olds so they will be in their own seats. What seat harness (or other option) have you used that’s ok on Alaska Flights. I understand whatever I use needs to be FAA approved, but just wanted to ask if anyone has had first hand experience. Thanks!
I’d second this. They’re cheap, functional, and easy to toss around. There’s a reason why rental car companies pick this seat.
Notably they are bare bones seats, so bear that in mind.
I believe it’s called the CARES harness. Goes over the seat. Works great for our toddler
Take their car seats if you have a way to get them through airport and will need them at destination. Otherwise we used the cares harness and it worked ok.
My vote is just take their car seats. That way they are in a familiar seat on the plane.
I would but they’re not FAA approved so I’d have to buy new car seats.
I used the cares harnesses and car seats on different trips several times a year for about 8 years.
Cares harness doesn’t have a crotch strap. My kids would side down so the seat belt was over their high abdomen instead of their hips. It’s light weight to pack, and only mildly inconveniences the person sitting behind you since you have to move their tray to install it. It may not work on the last row of the place.
Car seats can get an annoying bump where the seat belt buckles. But otherwise we’re a much better option. The Cosco ones are cheaper than a cares harness and very light weight. If you don’t want to lug their regular car seats around, I’d go with Cosco seats.
Be aware that many FAs won’t allow you to rear face car seats. This is a gray zone in FAA regulations. It’s safer for the kids flying, but can cause more of an obstruction for egress. Ultimately, the FA on the flight is the one who decides.
Kids in car seats must be in the window seat, leaving the seats closer to the aisle less obstructed in case of emergency exit.
I got a Cosco Scenera next for flying with my toddler, and strapped it to a carryon for the airport while kid was in the stroller. Worked pretty well, and that's the lightest, cheapest car seat around
