Biden should call Trump’s bluff and consent to a drug test. Trump would find every excuse in the book NOT to take the test. I would love to see that.

I told my family if Florida won, I would get a Panthers tattoo under my Flames one. Time to book an appointment!

Love how Tkachuk gave all of us Calgary fans a shout out in his on-ice interview. He said he couldn’t let Edmonton win for us.

Grit won out over glitz.

In Calgary, during the summer, we have 2 kinds of weather:

  1. rain, thunder, hail

and

  1. lovely sunny days perfect for a picnic … except be prepared for everything to be carried away by a wind gust.

The top priority is to fill those business and an accounting positions with Canadians first.

The problem is, businesses know they can circumvent paying benefits, pension contributions, etc. by hiring TFW’s. They can pay them less and demand longer hours than they could with Canadians. Often TFW’s pay lower rent because a lot of them live 6+ to a house.

Government should (but won’t) demand that businesses hire Canadians first at a living wage. Sure, businesses should be allowed to make a profit, but not atthe expense of treating their employees like chattel.

This practice only contributes to undermining young Canadian graduates from getting entry-level jobs. These kids only end up discouraged and it contributes to youth unemployment.

I’m 62. I have long, lustrous silver hair just past my shoulders. I take very good care of it, keeping it well-conditioned (because grey hair can get strawy looking, if not properly nourished). I have received compliments on my hair from other women which is a real confidence-booster.

Wear your hair at whatever length you desire.

At least they got the right city. They could have put a Houston Oilers logo on it.

I highly recommend watching this video, “Pete Pinnell: Thoughts on Cups.”

When I was just starting out making functional ware, I came across his video. (It’s a classic!) It really got me thinking about the relationship between the maker, the cup and the user.

If Calgary has a bad rep in the rest of Canada, let’s keep it that way.

The changes I’ve seen here in the last ten years (and most intensely in the last 3) with the influx of people from Toronto and Vancouver are not great.

Sure, there are lots of nice and respectful people coming, but there are many rude ones who are just here to take what they can and not make Calgary a better place.

I know you might say my opinion is based on anecdotal evidence, but you just have to drive, go to a mall or large park in this city to see how it’s changed.

My potter friends and I all call that “sexy clay,” because it usually results in lots of lovely plasticity. There’s lots of folklore about potters adding beer and even urine! to their clay to enhance its plasticity (I don’t recommend that -ew!). Generally, those little molds and bacteria release acid and that does have some impact on plasticity.

Yes! The main feeder line, which carries 60% of the potable water for the City of Calgary, had a massive leak. After examining the pipe, 5 more places were found to be about to fail. The projected time to fix everything is 3-5 weeks. The whole city of 1,665,000 people is on water restrictions. We are at risk of not having enough water for everyone.

So, you see, we are super grateful for the pipe your city is sending us.

Sending a heartfelt thank you to the City of San Diego for helping us out in our time of need.

I wish there was a trap-door that counter staff could employ for every rude person they meet. You’re rude? Whoosh! Buh-bye!

The hate stems from the fact that lots of us grew up with Tim Horton’s being a fixture of our everyday life and it was heavily identified with being Canadian. Canadians like good quality food for a good price served with a smile. We really liked friendly, courteous and polite treatment from “Canada’s coffee shop.”

Tim Horton’s used to have really good donuts and baked goods (baked in store) and fairly decent coffee. It was a place you could go and know the service and quality was consistent from coast to coast to coast.

Now, there are many franchises and franchisees who are unaware or don’t care about upholding the values embodied in the original stores. Add to that, Tim’s is owned by a big conglomerate which again, does not “get” what drew people to it in the first place.

It’s time for a new Canadian coffee shop to emerge - owned and operated by Canadians, for Canadians. Tim’s ship has sailed in my opinion.
