Could be part of it but definitely not the whole story. Green spaces are important for health, well being, and also keeping urban areas cooler: https://www.isglobal.org/en/healthisglobal/-/custom-blog-portlet/why-more-green-space-is-essential-for-cities/4735173/0

I love these kinds of simple victories that are actually a really big deal. Well done on all your hard work!

Go slow, slower than you think is necessary! That was the key for me to get through C25k and begin to love running. I ended up being the sort of person who would run 10 miles for fun on Saturday morning. 😅 Going too fast and getting completely winded is a great way to make oneself hate running.

I just set a timer (as I have burned hard boiled eggs before.....) and also make a batch so I can have them ready to go in the fridge. But fair enough about it simplifying the process. I can definitely understand that!

The US could really use more qualification levels as a bachelor's degree is not for everyone. I immigrated to the Netherlands and a lot of jobs require some amount of schooling or what they call 'denk niveau' (level of thinking) but there is a broader range. The page is in Dutch but the graphic still shows many of the levels (school is required only until 16, so much of this is further studies, afaik): https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middelbaar_beroepsonderwijs There's basically far more room for learning something appropriate to your thinking level, interests, or learning trades. Not everyone is being forced into 4-year degrees and schooling is far more practical. One thing I always irritated me when getting my bachelor's in the US was the amount of time/tuition money spent on subjects outside of my major. History, literature, basic science and maths should have been covered in basic schooling.

But they only take about 8 minutes on the stove... I'm curious how an InstaPot would be quicker/easier. I have an induction stove so the water reaches boiling quite quickly, quicker than an InstaPot coming up to pressure/temperature.

😂😂 I am not sure why but this has me laughing so hard, thanks! 😄

I am not a doctor but as someone who has taken it I want to scream do NOT start the Effexor!!! 😂 It's actually kind of a big deal to start it. It took it for psychological reasons (it did help that) and one of the bad side effects was horrible night sweats. It also killed off any libido I had and made having an orgasm nearly impossible. Then stopping it was a nightmare. Google stopping Effexor so you can hear about other people's experiences.

It may help with hot flashes, but it seems like a hell of a gamble.

Search for a pharmacy that makes tapering strips. Otherwise get the sort of capsule that has the tiny beads inside. You can open the capsule up. By reducing the amount of beads you take every day, you can slowly taper down your dose.

It makes me so angry to see doctors prescribing Effexor so willy nilly. It is a serious medication! It gave me horrible night sweats so it seems weird that it's prescribed for hot flashes. But the most serious issue is how hard it is to stop it. It took me 9 difficult months. I was lucky that I had a pharmacy that made tapering strips for the last 25mg.

Or saying that gaming is a male space.

Whilst I might have had positive mental side effects from Welbutrin, it made my mouth so horribly dry that I had trouble eating/swallowing food. Obviously that cancelled out any good side effects. I couldn't help but feel jealous of the people it works for. It is fascinating how we all react differently to the same medications.

I've seen this being done on receipts posted in Dutch subreddits. Restaurants add an 'energy surcharge'. One particularly bad one was €1 extra per pizza.

They banned you for that? Wow... :(

There was a post in the Menopause subreddit about how weight loss is completely different, practically impossible and that CICO doesn't apply when women reach that stage in life. A poster specifically mentioned how in other subs they would tell her she must be tracking wrong...but no, it's the perimenopause, with many agreeing with her. :/

So lucky. In Amsterdam I think I could see the tiniest smudge of that bright pink streak. But it was so, so faint that it might as well have been a thin cloud. Stupid light pollution. 😔

It's so frustrating that we can make taxes progressive but not benefits. It shouldn't be an all or nothing thing that keeps people locked in a situation or punishes people who try to do just a little bit.

I think Dr. Spencer Naldolsky is one of the best sources for information about this topic given he's a doctor specialising in Obesity. He addresses this a lot on his podcast Docs Who Lift.

It's because it was water weight, not fat. Steroids can make you retain water like crazy.

The simple is regarding the calculations needed. It's all simple, rudimentary math and principles. If one isn't losing weight at a certain amount of calories, then that means energy intake isn't lower than energy output. It means that person will need to consume fewer calories for weight loss. It takes some experimentation.

Basic CICO is simple. What's hard is then finding which foods work best for you for satiety, all the emotional stuff, fighting cravings, being tired, etc.

Not to be rude, but how? What makes you eat so much?

What makes you not want to eat? Given the prevalence of overweight and obesity all over the world, you are actually the "strange" one. :P

It's our minds and whatever appetites we were born with (genetics absolutely plays a role in our drive to eat or not eat). A lot humans get cravings and indulge in said cravings, whether they are hungry or not. Personally my mind bombards me all day with the desire to eat. My partner is someone like you: he has to remind himself to eat and force himself to eat more than he wants in order to just not be underweight. People are different.

There was a really interesting BBC documentary called "Why Are Thin People Not Fat." I remember a scene in which very young children are asked after eating lunch how full they were. All of them responded they were satisfied and full. Then whilst they were doing some school activities, every child was given some snacks. Some children ignored the snacks as they weren't hungry. Others immediately started eating, even though they were full. We can't help what appetites we were born with and trying to eat differently outside of what our appetites are signaling can be struggle, whether that's needing to eat less or more. (And this is why the drugs like Ozempic have been such a success: they turn off that constant "food noise" or desire to eat, regardless of hunger.)

I would say so, certainly I do. And it dominates my mind. Sitting at my desk at work, walking through the office, being on camera for a meeting, during my bike commute, going out for a walk... Just constantly thinking about how disgusting I look, how other people see that too, and feeling ashamed. It's exhausting. I live in a country with lower obesity rates than others. Out of the 150 people in my company, I could count on my fingers the number of overweight let alone obese people, so it feels even more noticeable here
