Just an assumption, but did you check your settings VS your friend 's? Was your Garmin on a different power saving mode or GPS bands? Do you have additional widgets or connect IQ apps running? Noticed similar phenomenon too but was due to these conditions.
Oh yes, you're right, I meant grail. Thanks for letting me know!
Looks awesome and I am also riding black forest trails as I am based in Freiburg. One question about your bike, it looks like the new Grizl gr Di2 (the one with internal cable on the) stem, do the bike have 2 holes in the downtube near the bottom bracket for an additional bottle or tools? Couldn't find out on the canyon website. Thanks and keep riding this fantastic part of Germany!!
Nope, only adjusting when Changing pads. Otherwise all good. Changed wires, housing and pads in November last year since then not touched it. Hope this help in deciding what's best for you.
I had them both too on the same bike, ended up changing the bb7 because of the alignment, which I found quite difficult to set correctly over time and this become really quite visible when you change the pads and see how uneven they are grinded. TRP spyre, set up and forget was for me the way to go. Hope this help.
If you're not interested in metrics, but more into turn by turn and routers in general, invest in a powerbank and use komoot/OsmAnd with the voice output. 840/1040 are good when you Don"t really care about the surrounding but as soon as you want to know more about where you are and what to see/do, you"ll end up on your phone because their screen are too small. And functions too limited. Save the money and with the experience make a better choice if needed for your next trip.
If you have an android phone, I would recommend Osmand-pro from the F-droid store. So far I remember it is completely free and it includes all the add-ons from the play store. I love POI and the offline route calculation as you don't have connection everywhere out there.
Fully agree with you, but I don't make the rules and some security officers (when thry xray your bike) may check. Happens to me many time, same as clinically clean your bike for Australia or NZ trips as they will otherwise not let you in in fear of seed contamination.
I have both in earlier versions (me full steel and GF carbon fork, both same size) . The difference in weight is noticeable as well as the components smoothness. I prefer the steel for a few reasons, more mounting points and no worries when you lean or transport the bike. If you mean to go real off-road touring, I would recommend the steel one. Please double check proprietary components and adjustments as the availability of these pieces may be very low where you go or 5 years from now. Have fun riding your new bike!
Agree, most airlines will accept sport luggages without any issues if this is under weight and cubic size limit (heigjt+width+depth <=300cm) some may not accept your bike without a box or bag. Some accept carton box some not as they fear humidity may affects its strength. Check on the airline website and don't forget to deflate(tubeless is a pain as milk may run out) and remove any battery as they will refuse to carry your bike for safety reasons. This is based on multiple overseas and overland flights. Hope this help
I see you took the shortest route to the best adventures :-) What an inspiring trip!
Sure! Feel free to ask anything. I"m in Europe actually, so we may have some gaps in answers, but this is fine for me. Btw, Kerala ist fantastic!!
Poor man"s best solution: buy a cheap case that fit your phone and use an adhesive Garmin mount you can find on amaZ" or where else to fix on the back. Never had a problem and always handy if you want to quickly shoot a Pic or video.
If someone wonder what the pinkish water is, it is pretty good and served in almost every street restaurant and that is what GG says about it:
"Water, with a pinkish hue, infused with a special herb is famous in Kerala. The herb known as Pathimugham releases a pink color when added to water. Bark of Biancaea sappan, Pathimugham is rich in antibiotics and is extremely good for digestion, locals say."
Yeah, never squeeze them as they may contain parasite or bacteria you would then "press" in your blood stream. The salt trick trigger a reflex in them and they let loose. Curious to hear someone saying they were totally relaxed waiting until they finish their job.
Everything was fine there too :-) even though I added an extra foam seat as I sometimes ride without a chammy and find it more comfortable when the road is super bumpy. Longest ride this time with roughly 8kg of luggages was 100km.
Yes, if you tour in backwaters and find some mud, you can be pretty sure they are waiting for you :-) they look small.. But wait until they catch you! If it happens to you, don't squeeze or rub, just put some table salt on them and they will immediately go off you.
Yes, we flew with our 2 bikes. Mine is a Bombtrack beyond+ 2019 and the other one a Beyond+ ADV also from 2019. We've both updated the handle bar, as the flat one were not comfy at all. You'right, mine is a Cinelli Double Trouble. It offers so much mount positions for GPS, phone etc. and is really enjoyable to ride, my back and hands were free of pain.
Wahoo! You will enjoy it! I haven't posted the trip yet on Strava and I am so lazy with Instagram.. Wanted to enjoy to the fullest first. Will post the next few hours or latest tomorrow and will post it here. But basically we did the inverted trip advertised on Spiceroads, so to speak from Trivandrum to Cochin via Munnar.
Namaste! Accommodation are so "cheap" (between 7€ to 30€)that you are better of just booking something and have a bit of comfort, a better rest and a shower. Regarding sleeping setup on other trips, we had a hubba-hubba and inflatable matts from Amazon. Temp on the cost was always in the 30+ grad, in the mountains close Munnar a bit cooler where you had to put a sweater in the evening.
These are leeches, always be careful when you off-road in mud.
Did over 12000km on trainer and can tell you it is definitely better for endurance training. Longest rides were over 8hours on trainer. Just binge watch your favorite series and let these legs spinning. Outdoor is fun as you can enjoy friends, nature and stops. But if you are living in a city and or have a job, trainer is the way to go. Did th PBP a few weeks ago and rode more than 760km in one go. Without the combined indoor/outdoor training, this wouldn't have been possible.
Could have been the case, but Nope. If wind direction would have been an issue, echelons and rotations would have taken place. When solo riders ride close to middle lane, there were just not taking care. Had an average speed to Brest of 28.8kmh and wind didn't bother me 👍
Just to clarify, with GPS signal you get your actual lat/long/elevation position through triangulation . So as. Long as you have satellites connection (3 at least, the more the more accurate it will be) and no GPS jamming is happening, you have part one completed. Part 2 is the positioning of lat/long on a map. Garmin use its proprietary maps in some device but for newer models they use one based on openstreetmap if I recall correctly.tvey add their layer of cycling info to it, like best route etc.. So you can check on osm and check if you find enough info for your trip.
