Sounds like a neighborhood barbecue gone wrong “Next thing I knew there were these random assholes in the backyard!”
Also, it's not random. The animals who made these have a method. The assholes at your BBQ were chosen not at random.

Risky click!
Don't worry, there are no random assholes there
Skunks are indeed random assholes 😂
Crap, I was gonna saw dog! We had ine that was nuts digging those up!!
Ours too! It took us like 2 years to figure out what she was doing it for, we thought maybe squirrels were burying stuff and she was trying to dig it up because she had done that before and then my fiance finally caught her doing it(she wouldn't do this if we were outside with her)and saw the grub.
Mt little digger was eating them and bringing them in the house! Just totally gross!
Mine was also eating them but at least had the decency to keep them outside lol. Do you have any idea what kind of grubs they are? or are they maybe all different, I never got a chance to see one and I have very little grub knowledge beyond that my dog and Puumba and Timon find them tasty
The ones my dog was eating in Texas were june bug grubs. White with an icky brown heat about an inch or so long, white, and squishy fat.
I'm all the way in Minnesota but June bugs makes sense, there were tons of them at that house
I think they are just a nationwide plague! One of those flying in my hair almost killed me. Well ok it was just the freak out when I couldn't get it out!
I have really long hair and have also had the misfortune of having one stuck in my hair more than once, one time one flew up my skirt inside my house but luckily that was easy to grab and get out of there unlike when they get all tangled in your hair. I also have a fear of a bat swooping and getting caught in my hair but so far thankfully that has never happened(knock on wood)
Hahaha we are kindred souls. Any flying bugs bother me. So many down south bite, sting or are junebugs, lovebugs, or palmetto bugs!!
seems kinda early in the year for grub digging. Grubs are usually foraged for in the fall
Or armadillos
I don't think skunks dig for armadillos.
Clearly you haven't met a texas skunk. One carried off my first wife.
I still get postcards from time to time.
Solved!

Haa, I read it as “random assholes in my back yard”.
I was a little disappointed when I realized my error.
Same lol
The title could apply to most any weekend at my place!
They look like chipmunk holes to me little bastards dig lots of holes.
Looks like armadillos
That was my first thought, too
Caught several in my yard doing just that.
As we say, possum on the half shell.
Yeah, there's a mama that has quadruplets under my workshop every spring.
Was going to say the same
Yep, definitely armadillos. Very distinctive holes.
We’ve got armadillos in our trousers.
Looks like armadillos to me
Moles.
Kill the grubs and the skunks and voles/moles will go away.
Raccoons
I knew it. I'm surrounded by assholes!
I always drink coffee when I watch radar.
Fart squirrels. As annoying as they are, by eating grubs, they can protect the roots of plants.
Not sure what region you live in, but this looks similar to our yard a few years ago when we had tons of Cicada Killers (type of wasp). If you sit long enough, you can see them dragging a dead cicada into those tunnels!
I think this is correct.
It's hard to tell how zoomed in the picture is, but these seem a bit big for cicada killer nests. They are usually only about an inch wide. And I don't see the dirt piles at each hole. As cicada killers dig they leave a mound of dirt at the entrance. They might crawl through it and mess it up but it's usually at least still visible since it's a decent amount of dirt bc they usually dig at least a foot deep.
They are crazy to watch though for sure. We had them one year dig nests all along the driveway. Just like every foot or 2 there was a new one. That was when i learned that their nests looked like bc it was so distinctive and id never seen them before. So they would be quite annoying getting in and out of the car or getting trapped in the garage. Wild to watch them take cicadas out mid flight though. Not saying it's not the answer here, just doesn't seem quite right in my opinion.
In laws
Definitely not “random” lol
Also not ass holes
definitely prairie dogs….
Chipmunks or voles maybe?
Turkeys
I use beneficial nematodes to control grubs. It’s better than using poison and safe
We have an armadillo in our yard and it looks exactly like this 😭
It’s an awful lot of holes for moles. Usually moles are eruption holes whereas these look like digging holes. I’m going with armadillos.
We call that a cemetery.
Did anyone else read the title and think this guy had people who were assholes in his backyard? Was hilarious.
I have random assholes everywhere except in my backyard.
If you live in the Midwest, most likely cicadas. My backyard looks like a miniature of a ww1 battleground.
Moles or voles.
I was gonna say cicadas but those seem to be too big. Had a bunch pop up here
It appears a drunk prostitute in high heels was wandering around in your backyard.
Looks like cicadas or other large beetles coming out
Ass holes???
Cicadas...
crayfish?
13 stripe ground squirrel. Or a gopher
Thats it, skunk digging for bugs 🐛
Armadillo
I believe you have a colony of voles
Based on them being conical, my first inclination is a skunk. Could also be armadillos though.
That is definitely from a pack of the notorious Norwegian Knob-Gobbler. They rare in these parts.
If you have raccoons in the area, my bet is raccoons are digging for grubs. My yard looks the same. It’s a huge pain in the ass
Moles
Voles
Voles.
You didn't invite them?
Gopher or moles
Could be skunks or armadillos if you have those. We got rid of our skunk problem and armadillos had never come this far north. I start seeing holes like this everywhere so I put the camera out. Sure enough those little armadillos have trekked up to the Appalachian's.
If you have a dog, take him all around the yard and let him pee on everything. It'll keep the skunks away.
I was gonna say armadillo... but now I'm really hoping it's an adorable skunk and armadillo dastardly duo working together to make mischief.
Squirrels?
I suggest that you consider "carefully scheduled anusses" in the future.
🦨
Armadillos have done that to my yard. But way worse, lol.
These look like a cicada killer hole they are a ground bee grumpy that kill cicada
at least your getting your lawn aerated
Crawfish. Most of your lawn is Hydrocotyl sp. So the water table is very high.
Get grub killer
ground bees?
Cicadas waking up and digging out of the ground
Depends where you live, we have some from ground squirrels/ SW USA
Not random holes.
The holes align with various stars in the night sky. The Mole people who live under your yard trying to make contact with their rescue ship.
There’s an old saying that goes “if you haven’t had a random asshole in your backyard, then YOU have been the random asshole in someone else’s backyard” 😁
Skunk looking for grubs.
Could be moles
I LOVE random ass holes!!
VOLES
I knew it ,I'm surrounded by ass holes
It's been moles/voles when ever I see that many in one spot. Just my experience in the northeast US.
Voles.
We had a similar problem. Never found the culprit or culprits. But found a sort of solution. Coffee grounds. And I had access to a vending machine operator who would discard used coffee grounds and save them for me. In huge trash bags so I spread multiple trash bag of ground all over the backyard and it seems to have stopped. Told that creatures don’t like the scent.
Rabbits
Very small gophers
Our garden has these, but we're in north east England. I'd assumed it was the squirrels, but any more suggestions?
They are from voles. I lived in a place where the yard looked like this. We could stand inside the house and see them running back and forth in the yard.
Imaging having some small animals in the backyard /s
But seriously, if you live in warm place, those might be lizard holes
Cicadas
Armadillo is a possibility...
Chipmunk holes. They are all over my yard, too.
Mole crickets?
Tell them to leave
Critters, My guess would be moles,
Are you in cicada country? They burrow out of the ground and are coming out now
Put your finger in one tell me what happens
Armadillo also burrow for grubs and worms in a similar manor. Are their any huge wasps in the area? Solitary wasps look like 3” long yellow jackets but are truly harmless their burrows look similar as well.
Kill their food and they will leave
Skunks?
Armadillos. They're a tricky removal process. I built these traps to catch them. You need to guide them into the trap with boards. You can't use any kind of bait. But once you catch them, the wood retains their smell and they are attracted to that smell. What you do next depends on your state, but don't kill them in the trap. That ruins the smell of the trap and it is useless.
Stick the hose in a few and run it. Whatever made those holes will come out. Then you'll know.
Elephant tribe
Chipmunks in my area do this. Usually around the house foundation or some other structure. I live in Ohio.
Put lots of mole bats out. Theyll die
Mole bats?
Baits*
Thought you were going to stand out in the yard and hit moles with bats
Whack a mole!
Moles … I hate those things
Cicadas. I gots millions of them.
Those aren’t cicada holes.
Yeah they are. I’ve got gazillions. Had the local forestry guy come here. Those holes have been gotten to by birds. Looking for grubs probably. I’ve got about 10 pictures exactly like this.
Now there is why they are larger. Birds.
We have untold numbers of them as well, but the holes are only cicada pupae sized.
We’ve got groundhog holes too. Once the dogs start digging at them, they’ll get big enough to fall into & break a leg or flip a dirt bike.
My yard is polluted with these holes. I thought it was voles to begin with. Then ground hornets. They tore me up last year. I called forestry and they knew immediately. The oak trees here are covered in little cicada shells.
Yeah my knee jerk reaction was that those were from small rodents. Pocket gophers, voles or something.
Sorry about that. 😬🥹
Oh no man. That’s why we are here. Learn some new stuff you know? We are perfectly great. 🤙🏼
Excellent
