Or just don’t eat things you don’t like. They’re delicious to me tho🤣
how???? they’re quite claggy no? how do you usually prepare yours? pleaseee 🥺
I make fries in the air fryer
what in the world does "claggy" mean?
im asking with genuine interest!
claggy. kind of like cake batter but not in a fun way. almost like a meal-y pear? 🙈
Claggy isn’t commonly used in the US, but it should be! it means exactly how it feels when you say it haha
omg exactly why i opened w “claggy.” bc the answer is in the way it rolls off ur tongue. gross 🥶 haha! (i speak british english)
this sounds almost exactly like an undercooked sweet potato
It's important to note that when roasting if the skin is not properly removed during prep then it will be very woody and chewy
my favourite way that i have found for removing the skin and roasting sweet potatoes is to scrub the whole thing thoroughly, then cut it into coins about ¾ of an inch thick. at this point you can lay the coins flat and see the ring where the woody skin ends and the smoother flesh begins. then i just cut all the outside off before cutting the remaining pieces into chunks for roasting,
then i toss the chunks in oil and salt and pop it onna pan at 375°F and flip it every 10 mins until they get properly crispy
damn girl imma try this. sounds similar to another comment about cutting in coins. TYSM QUEEN. def gunna update yall
You went from British English to the most Americanized English possible 😂
I roast sweet potatoes with skin on at all times and they never turn out this way. You absolutely do not need to remove the skin. It's healthy, and the inside can easily be not "woody and chewy" without removal.
It kind of sounds like you're cooking yams or something. Not actual sweet potatoes.
i honestly think they are yams but they're always labeled as sweet potatoes D: how can you tell the difference?
Google could give you a way more descriptive answer than I'm willing to type out rn, lol. Let it be your guide.
The dog eating peanut butter feeling?
Just dont eat them. There's other nutritious things out there. This way of thinking is like people who hear blueberries are a superfood so they eat blueberries every single meal.
I baked them and then top with brown sugar and cinnamon sometimes butter too. I HATE sweet potatoes that are made savory, like sweet potato mash with garlic and salt and pepper or even sweet potato fries. I’m not sure why but sweet potatoes will only ever be sweet to me. I also enjoy eating them plain straight out the oven. I eat them with the skin too. People say that’s odd but I like it.
Baked with butter and a sprinkle of brown sugar is awesome. I can handle a little bit of savory sweet potato, but also really prefer it sweet. Sweet potato casserole is straight-up heaven.
I know right. I was raised on sweet potato casserole, especially loved it with marshmallows or pecan topping. Around a year or two ago my mom told me I wouldn’t like baked sweet potatoes, but they’re great and a little healthier than the casserole as long as you don’t go too crazy on the brown sugar lol
Haha yeah, that casserole is crazy sweet, but now you're making me hungry, talking about the toppings... Oof! Anyway, my mom used to make us just baked sweet potatoes with butter all the time when we were growing up, and I can honestly even do it without sugar. Awesome that you found a way to enioy them that way too!
Poke 2 fork holes on each side and bake directly on the oven rack at 400 degrees for 1 hour. Put a piece of tinfoil on the rack below to catch the drippings. Cut potato in half and the skin should come off clean.
I don’t like them either. They are nasty
Full disclosure: I love sweet potatoes but even I find the orange ones a bit too much. My favourite is the Japanese variety (with yellow flesh). I recently found this food blogger on instagram who’d posted this method to cook them in the air fryer and honestly it’s the best way I’ve eaten them. Here’s their method: soak potatoes in salty water for ~10 mins. Pat dry, then roast at 200 c for 25 mins. Afterwards remove the potato and soak in cold water for ~5 mins. Then roast again at 180c for 15 mins. Wait to kind of cool and you’ll have the creamiest sweet potato ever!
Can confirm Japanese sweet potatoes are freaking delicious! When I lived in Japan, I ate them almost every day. No need to put brown sugar or anything else on them because of how naturally sweet they are.
WHAT KIND OF SORCERY!!!!!!! IMMA TRY THIS ASAP and report back 🫡
I hope you enjoy it!
Ok this sounds right up my alley. Care to share the name of the blogger?
Yes, for sure: here’s the link to their reel https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7akOOnSNj0/?igsh=YTExYWdoZ3Fvc2w0
Thank you very much! 😄
Is it the taste or the texture?
If it’s the texture, try cooking them longer and then mashing them.
If it’s the taste, try finishing them with butter, sugar and cinnamon.
this is bloody useful, i’m going to try and report back over the next week! i’m not entirely sure if it’s the taste or texture. the taste is super mild, neither here nor there, which does bother me. and the butter and sugar is what i’m trying to avoid 🙈 any other flavour combos would be supremely appreciated 🫶 trying to stay on a calorie deficit for a few weeks!
If you are looking for a savory route, try rosemary, salt and olive oil.
It does surprise me that it is mild in flavor for you. They are exceptionally flavorful where I live, but they are grown in our farming town, so that may be why.
This is my seasoning preference as well, cut into fries and then oven roasted.
Then sweet potatoes are a great choice. Plenty of fiber which helps you stay fuller longer.
But don’t fret if you just don’t like them. There are plenty of other options.
Best of luck along your weight loss journey.
Try just cinnamon. I’ll also add ginger powder, or a chai spice blend I have. I find roasting whole in the oven to be my favorite method. The skin should dry out and the insides seem to contract a bit as some of the natural sugars ooze out. Once it’s cooked enough, the skin peels off easily. Then I just smush with a fork and add my spices.
Smoked paprika is your friend. So is cumin.
I like to use coconut oil, lemon, salt and cinnamon and mash it up.
I love them in chunks in the air fryer but it can be pretty sweet potato flavored.
I have tried a sweet potato nacho recipe that was really good! Slice the sweet potato into coins and bake them, then top with nacho toppings, bake again to melt and combine flavors. Here’s a recipe but you can add whatever!
hot damn that sounds good, i could even top w black beans for extra protein, and crumbled feta maybe. going to save this recipe, tysm mate 🫶
Black beans are a must! Enjoy 💓
I was going to suggest black beans. They’re great black beans burritos and tacos.
Try a variety of seasonings. I didn't like sweet potatoes much until I tried tossing them in olive oil and seasoned with salt, pepper and a mix of garlic and onion powder. I've also tried it with Cajun seasoning. Bake them until they're fork tender or have a light crisp.
yes i’m starting to think it’s the mild sweetness with no counterbalancing seasoning that’s been throwing me off. going to try some of these suggestions and report back on this post tysm 🫶
I can't stand them. I make sweet potato bread every though and it's delicious. So many people want it I have to make like 18 loaves. You can find the recipe on Cooks.com
I love that recipe
tysm 🫶
You're welcome. Here's a tip. When you make it be sure you know the difference between sifted flour and flour sifted.
oh wow, WILL DO 🫶
I got this one… trust me sis.
1-chop up sweet potatoes into little squares / chunks
2- single layer on pan - can be on tin foil to save pan
3- cover with olive oil and season well with salt pepper and garlic (or whatever you like
4- bake for 10 minutes at a time at like 400
5- every 10 minutes move them around so one side isn’t getting burnt
6-keep doing this like 4-6 times
7- done when close to burnt / crispy
It’s like hot candy marshmallows- can’t get enough. Older sweet potatoes work a lot better (leave on counter for like 3 weeks). It’s like crack.
Also… Japanese sweet potatoes are definitely the best for this
girly i don’t deserveeee uuuuuu 😭😭😩😩🫶🫶🫶🫶❤️❤️❤️❤️ imma try this this weekend FERSHER and will report back. ilysm
Haa most welcome ilysm2! Ya gonna eat a whole potatoe just sayin. Btw I’m a dude tired of hearin bro every 2 seconds so balancing it out with some sis 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 . Enjoy the weekend!
This, but save your bacon grease and coat them with it instead of olive oil
I just don’t get on with them at all, and I love broccoli, sardines, and many other healthy foods people don’t like.
I find the texture so off-putting and it tastes not quite savory yet not sweet in an unpleasant way.
THIS. this is exactly what i have been trying to articulate! my brain can’t compute the concept of a SWEET vegetable. also the texture feels quite claggy. but the comment section on here is bloody encouraging if you’d also like to try some!!! imma give them a go; going to be a sweet potato-heavy week for someone who doesn’t fw 🍠 haha
Why not just eat other types of potatoes? All types of potatoes are nutritious.
Sweet potatoes are 3 times better than regular potatoes both by taste and nutritional standards
Sweet potato fries (waffle from Alexia if not homemade) with dipping sauces?
Sweet potato topped with cottage cheese
Sweet potato topped with peanut butter and maple syrup
TOPPED W COTTAGE CHEESE? howwww! sounds controversial. going to look this recipe up, tysm mate 🫶
Welcome! Hope you enjoy. I literally nuke a sweet potato and top with cottage cheese after it’s cooked. Easy peazy
If deep frying something is the only way to eat something you don't like because you want the nutrition benefits....you're kinda shooting yourself in the foot...
I usually make homemade with a mandala and air fryer with Chosen foods avocado spray. I don’t deep fry anything. In a pinch I’ll grab store bought and air fry (camping etc).
My brother, can I untroduce you to butter and cinnamon sugar
DROP THE RECIPEEEE MY DUDE! really trying to avoid butter and sugar (tryna stay on a calorie deficit for next 5 weeks) but i WILL give this a go 🫶
Literally just steam the sweet potato, cut it in half, then cut a grid into the flesh, stick small slices of butter in the grooves and sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top
Have you tried different varieties of sweet potatoes? They all have a slightly different texture and taste. Try a white or purple sweet potato compared to your typical orange variety.
I think the yellow and purple ones taste a bit better than the orange.
I do as well. I prefer the drier texture of them. It all depends on the dish tbh and if I'm topping them, roasting, frying etc..
this is such a great idea! i could roast them all and do a taste test 🙈
Awesome! If you do, report back. I would love to hear your thoughts on each variety. There are also several different types of orange (Jewel, Garnet etc.)
I bulk prep sweet potatoes on the regular by dicing them up into small cubes, seasoning with olive oil and cajun seasoning, then air frying them until crispy on the outside.
how do you bulk prep, don’t you lose the crispy texture? or do you just toss in olive oil and seasoning and refrigerate before you air fry? also, what temp and duration for the oven (no air fryer here i’m afraid)? ALSO, does the peel stay on or off? thanksss
They do get soft reheated in the microwave, but i reheat them in the air fryer when i can. Peel stays on but that’s mostly a preference. You could roast them in the oven as well. Not sure how long to cook for but i’d bet ~400 degrees for 10 or so mins on each side would do it. Also you could try using a convection oven to get the same effect as an air fryer
Edit: spelling
noted, tysmmm
They taste best if you bake or roast them imo.
I personally think they're horrible if boiled or microwaved. These methods are fine with regular potatoes for me, but not sweet potatoes.
Also try putting a little olive oil and salt on them. A little fat and salt will enhance the flavor.
this is pro level advice. think this is what i’ve been missing. maybe i just rub some butter on top and sprinkle salt. tysm 🫶
I cube mine and pan roast until they start to lightly brown, then I toss in a very small amount of chili oil (just enough to lightly coat) and salt and pepper. The lightly sweet and spicy is delicious.
I totally can't eat any preparation where extra sugar is added to an already sweet food.
wow i’m going to try this. what temp do you roast at? also, not important but - any reccs on the chilli oil?
Roast at 350...it takes quite awhile (45 minutes?). Could cube smaller for slightly faster roasting time. We just grab whatever oil is on sale at the grocery store, since we use such a tiny amount. Maybe someone else has recommendations?
Put cooked sweet potatoes in breakfast burrito, so good!
nice! maybe w some scrambled eggs and some cajun to offset the mild sweetness of the 🍠 going to try 😭 yall comin in clutch for me 🥹

tysm! the mild sweetness is probably what’s throwing me off. either the roasting makes it extra caramelised so that i enjoy it better, or i counteract it with some butter and salt/cajun seasoning. appreciate the tip 🫶
Nutmeg and maple syrup dresses up the flavour of sweet potato significantly - it enhances the sweet factor of sweet potato and you only need a small amount
wowieee i think that will help me get past the annoyingly mild sweetness of the 🍠 going to try!!! 🫶
Top with some pan toasted maple syrup walnuts or pistachios if you roast your sweet potato chunks and you have a delicious appy/side
I despise all the sweet treatments people used to give sweet potatoes…the cinnamon, orange juice, brown sugar, maple syrup, etc.
But anything savoury, or just roasted or grilled with onion, garlic or olive oil is fine. My most common treatment is to grill on the barbecue thickish slices brushed with olive oil & garlic. I use the leftovers in salads, omelettes, etc.
wow, i do think i’m leaning towards the savoury suggestions in these comments too but curious why you don’t enjoy the sweet versions. i personally find the naturally mild sweetness quite annoying - my brain can’t make sense of a SWEET vegetable i guess
Cube them and roast them underneath a well seasoned chicken.
i’m veggie but maybe a block a feta instead of chicken haha! tysm 🫶
I honestly see sweet potato as a dessert item that I get to pretend is a side dish. I cover it in butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Southern classic.
i need this recipe i’m begging 😩😩😩
Well, if you're looking for easy, just bake a sweet potato in foil, and then when it's done mash in as much salted butter, cinnamon (plus nutmeg, ground clove, and/or allspice if you want), and brown sugar as it takes to be edible for you. I also know some people add marshmallow/marshmallow fluff.
However, if you're willing to put in a bit more time or are willing to buy a pie crust: https://blackpeoplesrecipes.com/black-folks-sweet-potato-pie/
Love this recipe but I only do a third of the sugar they recommend.
If you want a homemade pie crust recipe I recommend the double crust from Natasha's kitchen.
I've never enjoyed sweet potato fries or roasted sweet potato and firmly believe that sweet potatoes are meant to be treated as dessert.
tysmmmmm 🫶
I steam them cut into chunks. Add a little maple syrup with either cinnamon or ginger. You can also roast them, sprinkle with something spicy...like taco seasoning.
ginger powder you mean? also - can i combine the sweet and the spicy flavours you mentioned? like maple syrup + cinnamon + ginger powder + taco seasoning? also, do i add all this before or after roasting? tysm
Yeah ginger powder..You could try any combo you want...Yeah I season before roasting.
I eat mine with butter and brown sugar. I don’t know how they taste without those things 😂
lmaooo i feel ya idk what raspberry jam tastes like without peanut butter 🙄💅🏼
I like them one way and one way only (besides fries). I call it Sweet Potato Tacos: Baked, topped with ground turkey that's been sauteed with cumin, a little cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, topped with sour cream or Greek yogurt, sometimes some avocado. Delicious (and easy to tailor to your preferences). (Also makes great leftovers!)
i’m veggie 😭 what do i sub out the ground turkey with?? maybe crumbled feta?? tysm fam 🫶
Feta would be too salty I think. Worth a shot though! Add more spice maybe. Is there a fake meat you like? Or maybe a firm crumbled tofu with those same spices?
Just eat regular potatoes. I don't like sweet potatoes either
I’ve always hated them. I especially hate them with things like sugar, cinnamon, marshmallows, etc are added 🤮 I LOVE all other potatoes, and I love cinnamon and those things separately on their own. But sweet potatoes, both in a French fry form or a sweet dessert form are so gross to me.
Japanese sweet potatoes are so fking good. I hate regular sweet potatoes but I can eat those purple Japanese sweet potatoes all day.

Okay listen, this is the way: Make 8-10 slices about 1/3 of the way through the potato on each side, wrap it loosely in foil, and place it in a non-preheated oven (I use the toaster oven). Turn the oven up to 450 and bake for 30 minutes. Flip and bake another 20-30 until it’s soft. This method caramelizes the potato; the skin sort of peels away and the inside is extra sweet and tender. If you don’t like them baked like this, give up on sweet potatoes.
OMG TYSM 😭😭 going to try this with every sweet potato variety i can find in the store. i’ll report back 🫡
Please do! The time it takes to fully cook/caramelize varies depending on size and type of potato.
how do i know when the potato has “caramelised”? milli grazie
It’ll start to leak sweet potato syrup!
noted 📝❤️
I love them but honestly you could just not eat them they’re not essential. Great source of a healthy car but there are lots of other options
tysm 🤘
Boil them with water and jaggery. I am sure you will love it
Adding correct seasoning and using fat
Air fry them.. take the skin off after they get soft.. and then add butter with cinnamon. Yum!
I kind of get where you're coming from. At least for me I can't lump them into the same category as other potatoes.
To me, they're practically a desert to me and almost better served with a breakfast meal.
To that end, I'm going to try a sweet potato pancake recipe.
If you find them claggy, I suggest sweet fries.🍟
Also, using ice with water and soaking sweet potatoes to get rid of some of the starch then using I think flour on top or some kind of thin crusting batter might help.
(You might have to find the technique I'm suggesting because I'm coming up blank..)
But that'll probably take you longer than you want.
Beyond that, I don't really have any worth while suggestions Op.
I LOVE kumara (sweet potatoes).. don't eat them and give them all to ME!!!!! They're delicious roasted!
Air fryer it is
Cut them, put in a bowl add salt, rosemary and garlic mix them and put in the oven at 180 degrees
I like to put them in the crockpot on low for 8 hours. You can also do high for 4 hours. They come out so soft and delicious. You really don’t even need butter or anything else to flavor them with.
Try them as baked wedges. Quarter the potato(es) lengthwise, toss in olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and place on baking sheet. Bake on top rack at 425 degrees for about 20-25 minutes. Healthy, simple, easy, and they taste delicious. They are like fancy French fries.
For sure cut them into French fries and put Parmesan and parsley and salt. Yum
Have you been tested yet? Cause not liking sweet potatoes is a good indicator of a psychopath
I roast em whole in foil skin on at 180 degrees C for 2 and a half hours, take them out, slice them open, add either salt pepper and smoked paprika or cinnamon.
I never liked the taste of sweet potatoes, but have found that I love canned organic sweet potato purée that contains just sweet potato.
I pretty much create an acai bowl using the sweet potato purée as the base instead of acai. I also add in nuts and coconut. Then, I add sliced fruits on top such as raspberries and muscat grapes.
I suspect you’re not cooking them well or enough.
microwave them whole. you wash one well, poke it with a fork then put it in the microwave. google can give you guidance w how long. Then just cut a slice in the top & add butter. Eat the whole thing including the peel. delicious.
All I do is bake them whole, then put butter brown sugar and cinnamon on them, yum-o
Quit sugar and lots of stuff you don’t like will be an amazing treat
I’ve always disliked them with savory dishes and spices but I used to eat them for breakfast with some maple syrup and they were really good. You can also incorporate them into waffles or pancakes if you find a good recipe (i wouldn’t wing that)
What is it that you don't like? Too sweet? The flavor itself? Texture? Knowing what you don't like about them would be a helpful place to start. I like them, but I find that adding pink salt really elevates the flavor and offsets the sweetness.
I know you said no recipes, but chilli cheese fries (or baked potato) with bacon bits and pico de gallo is amazing (especially with that pink salt on it; sprinkle that on before you add anything else).
If you cube them up, put some oil on it and in the over for 30min at 400, they are deliciously crispy
I hate them in sweet applications but like them in savory applications.
If you haven't already try them savory. Butter and salt earthy/umami spices and condiments
Bad ideas. Dont eat anything you dont like. Eat regular potatoes. Same calories, same fiber, same stuff just a littls bit different miceonutriens. And the body can utilize more of food what you enjoy
Eating a sweet potato for dinner is definitely far from healthy. You will be hungry in 1 to 2 hours, just before bes. Than you lay down, and 80 percent chance that you will have GERD. Also smal fiber, no protin, no fat. Sound like a poor meal
Bro try sweet potato pie I was never really a fan of them either but sweet potato pie is absolutely delicious.
I like to roast sliced sweet potatoes after tossing them in olive oil, then dust on salt, pepper, garlic powder and chili powder so the end result is sweet and savoury with a bit of spice.
Easy. Boil them. They cook super fast and it’s the healthiest way to cook them. After that, just simply mash with butter and salt/pepper and they’re delicious! I like mine with dill and little lemon pepper
Heres my sweet potato game changer, Boil them on low until theyre pretty much falling apart, then WITHOUT ADDING ANY OIL AT ALL, air fry, my airfryer is cheapo and only has on off but hotter is probably better, toss in salt and as much or as little oil as you want,
i know this isn't good if you want to keep them healthy but using a fat that's solid at room temperature makes them taste more decadent and less oily, thats why donuts taste good despite having a shit ton of fat in them, theyre fried in shortening or lard.
but i just do about a half teaspoon of avocado oil per whole sweet potato or no oil at all sometimes, they still taste awesome.
adapted from this method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw--NLjZBNk
also try different varieties of sweet potato if you can find them, i prefer the japanese ones that are purple skin and white inside.
Turn them into fries. Dont eat them plain, i was eating them plain for a while and i got sick of them. Baked with evem just some good salted butter is really good imo. I also prefer sweet potatoes over yams. I uses to wrap it in tin foil and throw it in a toaster oven at 350-400F for 45 min, then cut it in half and let my grass fed butter melt in and mix it up. My dog liked it too. During that time, i would do random stuff or make more food.
go to an pakistani store, get a spice called "chat masala", sprinkle over the boiled /baked potatoe and enjoy the tangy/sweet flavored product.
Just pop em in the oven for hour then take the skin off and mash the potato in a bowl and add alil butter and or brown sugar/ honey. Sweet treat forsure
I don’t love sweet potatoes either so I just sub butternut squash for whatever calls for sweet potatoes… works for me and maybe it will do the trick for you too🤷♀️
I used to hate them with a passion and then once I started losing weight and eating in a calorie deficit my taste buds expanded a lot. Now I only eat sweet potatoes and if I’m having chips they’re sweet potato chips. It’s an acquired taste but yeah it grew on me overnight
I don't see any reason to eat a food you don't enjoy. We are not Koala Bears and we can get our nutrition from many different foods.
I only eat them in a sweet dish. I can't put salt and pepper on a sweet potato, it's like putting it on a fruit. So what I do : I bake it on the oven, I open it, put peanut butter, greek yogurt, honey, banana, blueberries, and enjoy!
You have never tried salt on a tart apple or honeydew melon :)
I also am not keen on SP, BUT Sometimes as a combo it works. And I also only will roast them or use them in a soup. Do you eat meat? I think maybe bake some with some good chorizo or bacon, add some feta and it'd be a great side, or part of a salad. Even some kind of mex spices and as a taco filling. Or add an egg and it's breakfast. Or Quiche? (I'm not a Quiche fan so I'll just leave it at that).
Would any of that be useful?
Cut up raw and put in smoothies
Caloric deficit
Sweet potato and black bean tacos seem like something that might interest you.
How can you not like them!! Make oven roasted sweet potato chips. So yum 😋
Just eat them! Cut out processed food and sugar.
Fast for like 18 hours. Do some exercise. Get really hungry. Eat them
You could try working in a baby food factory where taste testing is a job requirement… it worked for me 😶 YMMV
I mean, you don’t have to eat them? White potatoes are very similar nutritionally. Also, I wouldn’t recommend eating ONLY a sweet potato for dinner as that isn’t a very balanced meal
I think they’re very tasty loaded with tuna mayo and a side salad with olive oil and red wine vinegar! It counteracts the sweetness well
i hate them too
Brown sugar
I like roasting them and tossing them with some adobo seasoning and a little bit of smoked salt. Southwest style. You can also top them with some black beans for a protein boost.
What do you not like about it? Flavor? Texture? Smell? Peeling them (it’s the absolute worst)?
Flavor: season it differently. You can season it to be savory or you can season it to be sweet. I like both ways. For savory I will roast chunks in the oven with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, salt, sometimes some cumin. And be generous. For sweet I will make it like a baked potato. Split it open. Add butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Delightful.
Texture: try different ways of cooking them. Baked potato style is kinda mushy like baby food. If you roast them they get a bit of crunch on the outside and are more solid on the inside than if you were to mash it up.
Smell or peeling: sorry bud they just aren’t for you. And that’s okay!!!!! You don’t have to like everything. There is nothing a sweet potato is going to give you that other things can’t also give you instead.
Just roast one and smother it in butter with salt and pepper.
I only ever had them "candied" with marshmallows and sugary syrup on them, so I always just hated them.
Then I had one baked. A little sprinkle of brown sugar and butter is fine.
Or cut up and roasted.
Or in soups and stews.
Or mashed.
Anything but drenched in sugary syrup and marshmallows.
Mix a little reg potato with butter salt & pepper
If I cut them into steak fries and bake them bout 350-400 for 30-40 flipping halfway so they brown and crisp up I find that sweet flavor becomes a great backround instead of if you boil it and its overpowering.
I mean of course you don't like sweet potatoes; you're eating them completely plain & based off your comments, they sound undercooked as well. Sweet potatoes are delicious, even with a little effort.
One of my absolute favorite meals is sweet potato tacos. I dice sweet potato then pan fry them and add chorizo. It's a quick meal and super yummy!
You said you don't like jacket potatoes, but I enjoy them topped turkey meat with taco seasoning and verde sauce, chickpeas and arugula, or with a curry. And not exactly incredibly healthy, but they're also really good just baked then adding a bit of butter and brown sugar!
Good luck on your quest to enjoying sweet potatoes. You'll have to put in at least some effort besides popping it into the oven.
Why do you want to learn to love sweet potatoes? Do you want the beta carotene? If so, do you like butternut squash, acorn squash, mangoes, canteloupe, or carrots? Just eat the ones you like!
Try adding some cinnamon, honey and unsalted butter.
If your interested in something more savory you can also mix together minced garlic, parsley and butter and try adding that to the baked sweet potatoes
I dislike them whole any which way. I like them as fries or mashed with nutmeg and butter and cheddar cheese.
For convenience, I bake them with boneless skinless chicken breast at 425 for 1hr. Then I slice up the sweet potato and put honey on it.
I cut them into small pieces, coat with a little bit of olive oil and kosher salt... in the oven... take out when they're soft. Delicious 😋
I make this a lot and it's GREAT. https://pinchofyum.com/healthy-jalapeno-sweet-potato-chicken-chili
I like to boil sweet potatoes with skin on. After they’re cooked and cooled, I chopped them into coins and put them in my salad, but I love sweet potatoes so it’s easy for me to eat them. if I have more than I need for my salad, I’ll just leave them in a refrigerator and I’ll snack on them. They’re really tasty for me so I hope this helps.
Chop them up small ? I steam potatoes so they’re soft but not mush, chop them into salads. A nice citrus dressing or something sharp to contrast the sweet may help. Garlic 🧄
I like them diced with olive oil and salt and pepper. If they are well cooked they are not mushy. I like small diced in a burrito bowl or veggie bowl. Try a whole baked sweet potato, cut down the middle then squeezed on the ends - add cottage pie ingredients with a little cheese on top. We do this instead of shepherds pie with potatoes on top
Don’t force yourself to eat something you don’t like, it’s not sustainable.
I fucking hate sweet potatoes.
Have you ever used sweet potato’s make a delicious brownie? Cause you can’t taste the sweet potato but you are getting the sweet potato in your body
all that butter and sugar gon make me bloat gang 😭😭😭 tryna stay in shape this summer!!! this winter i loaded UP on the brownies 🥹 but imma save this idea for a brownie craving maybe, got a bbq coming up
just add flour, salt, baking powder and cocao powder, the sweet potato is sweet enough
It just so happens I am celiac so I don’t use flour or butter :) . It’s maple syrup, sweet potato, peanut butter/almond butter. I add less maple than it asks for because the sweet potato is sweet.
It’s more like a delicious fudge.
They are lots of different foods you can cook instead. Sweet potatoes are really high in oxalates so you do not want to eat them on a daily basis anyway, but if you want to eat in occasion, simply find a variety you like (purple for more starchy/bitter, white for more starchy with slight sweetness, orange are often more on the sweet side. But there are exceptions (japanese are definitely sweeter for instance, and pepita are very sweet too). Best I found is to steam them for taste, nutrition and texture, and to boil for oxalate decrease.
ouuu good to know it shouldn’t be a daily meal! and tysm for the variety breakdown this is suuuuper useful. least excited about boiling/steaming, but i WILL give it a go after i try some of the amazing roast recipes on this post 🫶🫶🫶
