[Charania] The Mavericks have sent two second-round picks to the Warriors to complete the Klay Thompson sign-and-trade to Dallas, sources said.
NewsThat's only for the blazers
Game's gone.
Remember when teams straight trade a copy machine for a player during the draft night.
no that was just the new jersey nets during an actual eastern conference dynasty
Not even a sandwich
Watch your mouth!
So we just get the trade exception I guess
It’s what warriors FO wanted to do.
Sucks they want to clear books Josh Green is 23, good player, gets better every year and on a decent contract
Yeah, seems like Green should be worth more than 2 2nd Rounders, but I’m not gonna argue 🤷♂️
Yeah Hornets FO doing some real nice things lately.
Would it be that crazy to think that they end up better than the Warriors this year? They’ve been playin caliber when healthy
Unless LaMelo is getting new ankles, I'm not putting any faith in the Hornets to make any sort of noise
We do finally have good PG depth at least. Tre Mann was really solid after the deadline, and Micic is a pretty good 3rd string PG.
Not only that but our second rounder this year, KJ Simpson, is also a playmaker.
and mark williams with a new back
Not crazy. The East has 4 teams that will be dogshit bad. They only have to beat out the Raptors for a 10 seed. Meanwhile the West only has one (Jazz) team that will be dogshit bad. Warriors would have to beat out the Trailblazers, Spurs, Rockets and Lakers to make the play-in.
The Hornets have a very solid roster when healthy especially in a weak east. It’s just getting all those guys to play games
The Warriors are just not as bad as everyone seems to think…
I mean I don’t really see how they’ve gotten better than the teams that were better in the standings outside of maybe the Clippers if the loss of PG proves vital, whereas basically every team behind them is young and improving.
I dont think people are saying that the Warriors are worse than the Hornets, just that they have to face most of their opponents from the west gauntlet while we have majority of our opponents from the objectively weaker east.
I remember when they drafted Brandon Miller over Scott they got BLASTED (at least on Twitter). Even MJ was getting blasted for that pick.
Well turns out Miller was the right pick.
Not when you are doing us a favour and we had Lakers breathing down our necks. There was no leverage for the Mavs, Klay was our priority, and Green was expendable.
I honestly just don't see how Klay improves your team UNLESS he shoots lights out. Otherwise good luck lmao.
not sure why people think getting klay and paying him for 3 years is a good thing...

Green really might not be worth anything. We’ll see.
“Gets better every year” is really generous. He was better last year than he was this year
I like Josh but he really doesn’t get better very year. He’s basically the same guy he’s been since year 2.
Him not improving more is my biggest gripe about him. He’s a solid player. But is close to peaking.
You say that, like that’s a bad thing
You can acquire players via S&T into the trade exception. So now the Warriors have essentially $16M extra in cap space to work with this off season
Didn't they dump 30 mil from CP and whatever Klays contract was? How is it they only have 16 mil?
Their salary was $174M + Klays cap hold of ~$40M+
So by losing Klay and CP3, they dropped down to $144M in salary (salary cap is $140M, so still $4M over the cap).
They then traded for Waters ~$2M and signed Melton using the $12.9M MLE, which hard capped them at the 1st apron of ~$178M.
So now they have to~$159M committed to 12 players and are ~$19M under the hard cap with 2 roster spots to fill.
They current can fill those roster spots with the $16M TPE from Klay, vet mins and signing their SRP (Post).
Assuming they sign Post and don’t cut Santos. That means they’ll have ~$161M committed to 13 players.
Wow I didn't realize how much over the cap we were. That's crazy. Thanks for the full explanation.
This guy contracts
This guy CBAs
i would sign someone for 1 year deal and try to trade them to a contender for picks
They were way over before
toasted
Hope you make the move.
It would be a whole lot funnier, if the one that wins this whole trade is Hornets with Josh Green
I mean that wouldn't be insane result, the only player involved and he's young. Hell if they just play him in a bigger role I think they can flip him for more than a 2nd
I doubt we flip him honestly. Our biggest concern aside from health is our motor and overall effort and from what I’ve seen of Green, he brings a lot of energy.
Green is probably a top 5 energy guy in the league. I miss him already
I actually really enjoyed watching Green play. His motor and activity level is always insane.
I’d be lying tho if I said I didn’t yell at the screen when he tried a layup while Tingus Pingus was 2 feet behind him…
Wouldn’t be surprised he’s young athletic and has a strong motor has solidly improved every year. He’ll probably end up a high quality starter
I was hoping he’d turn into a poor man’s Ben Simmons (talking about his peak years). Strong defense and thought he should’ve developed more as a playmaker by now. He’ll definitely have the space to grow more with Charlotte. No idea if his shot ever stabilizes
What made you think he could be like Simmons? Apart from being Australian and being able to defend, I don't see the similarities.
He hasn't even dated a Kardashian
And he's definitely not a young socialite. Those are what made his peak
I saw some creativity with his passes and court awareness on offense at some point in 2022 and thought it would be smart to develop that part of his game like Pop is trying with Sochan. But Kidd has very specific uses for wings and doesn’t like them doing that stuff. Bet he’ll grow as a secondary/tertiary passer in Charlotte under Charles Lee
His shot isn't that bad, dude had a TS of 64.5% 22-23, which is really elite. He started this season pretty poorly, got injured, then got back & shot 42.1% from 3 & good for 63.8% TS through 35 games. Then he got stomped by Grant Williams iirc & got injured again.
That’s probably what happens. They got a 23 year old developing player while the mavs got a 34 year old who’s had major leg surgery twice already.
He's been developing for 5 years now. Exum literally walked in and took his job in 5 games
And PJ Washington was given the hornets starting pf spot last season and lost his job to miles bridges in less than a quarter. Sometimes a player needs a new circumstances to blossom
Miles Bridges was about to be offered a $30m+/yr contract before he got in legal trouble(was literally a few hours away from getting the offer). Miles bridges the basketball player always had more value than PJ Washington, Miles Bridges the person is what ruined his value.
1st year was a wash, front office discord so more like his 3rd year last year. Dude has done nothing but get better and showed out in an elimination game. This will be looked upon very, very poorly in the future.
RemindMe! 3 years
Man I love Josh and hate to see him go, but the reason he had a great Game 5 is because they basically weren’t guarding him. It was still a big step for him to actually take those shots when he’s open, but as soon as there’s a defender in position in front of him he’s looking to pass almost right away. He’s not confident in his handle and it’s been a huge detriment to his ability to beat anyone off the dribble. Dude should have one of the fastest first steps in the league and you just never see it. That said I’ll always be a fan of his energy and athleticism and Charlotte will definitely be a league pass team for me
The guy didn't get much of a chance through the first 2 seasons, he's logged ~1500 less minutes total compared to Giddey which has been in the league a year less. 22-23 he had a great season, 40.2% from 3, 64.5% TS, his year on year improvement was really good. This season he started slow, got injured, and then shot 42.1% from 3 good for 63.8% TS through 35 games before getting stomped by Grant Williams and got injured again. Playoffs was kind of a mixed bag but it was his first playoff & he just got back from the Williams stomp before the playoffs began.
Well the bar for the hornets to win the trade is much lower than the bar for the two other teams
Yeah honestly. We only have to be in the playins in the East while if yall dont reach the Finals or the conference finals it would be comparatively seen as losing the trade. Especially if Klay regresses further
Shades of Orlando winning the trade where Dwight went to LAL and Bynum went to Philly and Orlando got Vuc
Similar to how the Clippers traded away Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Josh Green MVP 2030
He’s shown flashes. Just need to consistently do it and the Hornets won.
Another 3 and we can get Saddiq Bey
He’s injured dude
Second round picks? God FA is so back
How will Dallas ever recover from this brutal robbery.
They had to send their own 2031 second round pick. Absolutely devastating.
They’re trynna build a team that will last all of those picks. Excited to see how that plays out. But I also haven’t heard of a team trading so many future picks before, lol.
We're like the opposite of the Thunder lol
Wolves up in here too man lol.
CALL OFF THE TRADE. Daddddd HE WONT GIVE ME MY CHARIZARD BACK
I still want the second for the tampering done on Brunson
How bad or good it is depends on if Klay is as toxic as reports coming out of Warriors land is, and if he's well and truly washed.
It sounds like a steal for the Mavs, until Klay bricks 14 of 16 and goes 0-9 from 3 five games in a row.
That just sounds like THJ for 50 games in a row last season so it’s not like it’s a downgrade haha
until Klay bricks 14 of 16 and goes 0-9 from 3 five games in a row
and refuses to come off the bench.
It’s clear he wasn’t happy last season and it was probably time to move on. But also comes across as sour grapes as far as media is concerned. Regardless of how things ended dude helped win four rings.
Trade exception I’m assuming. Otherwise it’s going to be a painful year.
I'm guessing these are the 2 SRPs Charlotte sent to Dallas for Josh Green. GSW was probably insistent on getting both, where Dallas likely only wanted to send 1?
EDIT: NVM, Dallas sending their own 2031 SRP. So guessing they kept one of the picks from Charlotte
2 Nikola Jokic’s for Klay is a FLEECE!!
Not every second round pick is Jokic.. some become Jalen Brunson. Only borderline MVP candidate
Some become draymond too!
With three draymonds the warriors will be called the warriors for a reason
2 Bronny James
We don’t have two seconds to send. We only have the 2031 pick.
I think the trade is
Mavs:
Klay
Warriors:
TPE
2031 Mavs 2nd
2nd rounder via Charlotte
Charlotte:
Josh Green
Mavs might get another 2nd from Charlotte based on previous reporting, but that’s neither here nor there.
Pretty sure we actually get Klay + a Charlotte 2nd
I think you’re right. So assuming all 2nds are about the same value it would effectively be a Green for Klay swap. Masterstroke by Nico.
Nico top 3 GM in the league fr
That's it no players... lame
They get the $16m trade exception, which they clearly valued more than Josh Green.
Which is weird for a team that doesn’t have much established wing depth. But I’m not arguing lol
They’re paving the way for Moses Moody to finally have a real opportunity.
Please... please let this be true
freemoody
Although word today is that Kerr wanted Podz to start and Klay come off the bench.
In which case Moody will get limited, inconsistent minutes again.
I doubt Podz starting would eat all the minutes like when Klay was starting. He doesn’t get the long leash after all
Klay is gone brother. Also, Podz starting is just a rumor, that same reporter said there will be a competition at camp.
They are a team that paid almost $200M in luxury tax last year and missed the playoffs. They were going to have to let Klay walk for nothing.
They get to clean up their cap table, Dallas gets their man and for facilitating it, Charlotte gets a good player for a bag of chips.
Hornets win the trade!
Getting Josh for 2nds is a huge steal
Especially considering we just got three seconds to soak a massive $5 million contract. We got Green and an extra second for relieving Denver of 3% of the salary cap for one season
It pays off being a cap space team, you basically just get free shit
I honestly believe Green will be a big part of your future too. He's perfect for your offense, he's young, and he's already improved a lot since entering the league
I’m really excited about him. I didn’t really expect us to get anyone with that kind of potential. I just figured we’d re-sign Bridges, sign some aging C-tier vet to like 3/27 mil, and call it a day.
I agree, though. He’s probably one of the best fits for our roster. He should be able to carve out a nice role immediately. I love that he’s signed for three seasons, too
Maybe he will find his confidence in Charlotte and really blossom. I think playing w Luka and then kyrie made green a bit timid. Playing with the Charlotte squad may really help alleviate that! Has solid 3, pretty good defender, and can jump. Max effort.
Really impressive set of moves.
Floor for this picks - Trayce Jackson Davis
Ceiling - Jokic
Sounds good
According to law of averages that’s like two Jarrett Allens
At least one Draymond Green
Great haul for warriors, now what do they do with the second round picks
The best player in world was a second round pick
I know they got so lucky with Draymond! Jokic was a second round pick too, ya know.
Brunson, Manu as well
Jimmy
IT
Keita Bates-Diop
Legends
Ivan Rabb
He meant Bronny idiot
TJD looked great as a rookie for us.
We love getting second rounders so much we traded ours away just so we could buy it back
damn the warriors just got two best player in the worlds for klay thompson?
are the mavs stupid?
Draft Bryce James
Draft LeBron's other son
The picks are to be included in an attempted markannen trade
Those second round picks are going to be instrumental in bringing… checks notes… Ty Jerome back to the Golden State Warriors.
Dallas is sending its own 2031 second-round pick in deal, per source.
Don't worry Steph, Draymond is still there to get suspended once a month.
nah, almost guarantee you the moment steph is injured, he will get himself a tech suspension or injury
It's hilarious that they were negotiating for literally hours over an extra 2031 2nd round pick.
2031 is 7 years away, that means they just traded an elementary schooler right? 🤔
That’s 40% of one Jae Crowder!
Warriors cooking
Cooking but with a new head chef. Might be cooked
Kevin O'Connor saying somewhere Sixers won the trade and Morey is a genius.
We have seen teams re-route second rounders for players. The Warriors FO can't be looking at where they currently are and think they're in a comfortable position. Steph/Dray only have so much time left, but the Warriors are also looking to remain under the apron.
There are ways for them to achieve that while also making an all-in move. Now is the time...Lauri for example.
Honestly if Lauri doesn't hit, and it's a long shot, it's just ride out the rest of Steph's years while acquiring picks.
So what did Charlotte give for Green?
Those two seconds I think
charlotte making a savvy move to slide in and secure a young player with some potential wow
Yeah two seconds for Green is such a steal
We got 3 2nd Round picks for taking on Reggie Jackson’s contract ($5.2M), so we essentially got Josh Green and a 2nd Round pick for $5M in cash!
I assume those 2 2nds. I am a bit dissapointed with this Hornets part of the trade.
I mean they certainly weren't gonna give us a First for Josh.
Charlotte robbed us man. Guess we really like Klay
A 2nd round pick
cap space
So are they ours or did Charlotte send them their way?
I don't even think we had two 2nd rounders after sending 3 for Grimes. Have to be the Hornets pair of picks
Ah yeah good point.
One is our 2031 second and the other was charlotte’s they got from Denver/philly. Whichever one is worse .
MDJ looks to actually be not garbage at drafting so this is okay with me
Is that two additional seconds? So 3 total?
Woj or someone said they were GS was gonna get 1 or both of the 2nd Round Picks that Charlotte sent, so I think it’s just 2 total.
lmao
That’s a terrible trade for the warrior's
Edit; looks like they got a trade exception too
Damnit low key wanted to keep one so we would have a couple for the deadline if needed lmao
We have two 1st round picks and a 2026 pick swap though. We can always hit up our buddy Presti to give us an actual 1st round pick for that 2026 pick swap
The sheer greed permeating through this comment is toxic lmao
WoW.
Second round picks baby, everybody’s favorite currency!
Is...is that all? They gotta be war chesting for Lauri right?
When are we going to have the conversation that culture wise Kyrie >>>> Draymond
That makes sense. He's got some issues but I don't generally think he's tended to tick off his teammates (outside of Boston), at least not the same extent as Draymond has.
Can someone explain why Klay didn’t just leave as a free agent? It seems odd that there was this three way trade at all.
The pool of teams with cap space that also want his services are small. The new cap rules changed a lot for free agency.
Why couldn't Dallas just directly sign him for 3/50? It sounds like you're inferring there's some new cap rule with free agents that would make this not possible?
We didn't have the cap space to sign him outright without sending out Josh's salary.
Oh no we giving a second 2nd round pick. Nah that's where I draw the line. Send him back! That's the next Jokic!
If the lakers would’ve sent Dlo AND Rui that would’ve been better than this tbh but oh well
Two seconds for Klay Thompson? It's a bloody joke
I mean, I get it - he missed 2 whole seasons with injury and can barely guard anyone any more. You still have to account for where he is on the floor at all time, he's still got a very useful offensive role to play - but is he that much better than, say, Duncan Robinson at this point?
he that much better than, say, Duncan Robinson at this point?
I immediately thought of Duncan when the Klay left , warriors need a shooter off the bench . He is better than Robinson, not that much though, Klay's ability to guard has diminished as you said . But it's too disrespectful to call him a rich man's Duncan Robinson
Why do the Mavs do this? why not just sign him in free agency?
Couldn’t due to their cap room sign and trade was the loop hole to get him in so we could unload green to make the money fit under the cap for Thompson
better than nothing 🫡
Fuck. I don’t even know how to feel.
Nice that’s like two whole potential Jokicishes
If it’s only for 2 2nds, honestly just let him walk and see what Dallas does. Is the fear that if you don’t cooperate on Dallas, he’ll go to Lakers and you hate Lakers more than Dallas?
Whats the benefit of letting him walk? Then you get... nothing? The sign and trade gives them cap space to sign more players, and they also get two picks...
Mainly to see if Dallas budges, I feel like they’re desperate enough give more than just Josh Green (from the reports I’ve seen the 2 2nds Charlotte is sending is going to Warriors so Dallas isn’t even giving up any picks).
They should have added a toaster to sweeten the deal.
Isn’t Klay washed?
Can we also dump Dlo to the hornets and them send something to Brooklyn so they can give us Cam Johnson?
I like Josh but he gets injured easily and has low BBIQ. He flies around the court but can be faked out of his shoes. He is also pretty bad around the rim for being so athletic.
dang so its real :(
There is no winner or loser in this trade. The Mavs gave up a mediocre role player that you can find anywhere for a washed dude. Traded nothing for nothing.
Lame
Lauri for our first picks, JK and maybe two players. Then use these second picks to offset not having the firsts. It works, maybe.
Mike D is a jerkoff pause
Dallas just traded away the next Nikola Jokic, mark my words
If Luka wants to win anything, he should go somewhere else lol.
What no cash considerations, what happened to the game I loved
