Saw this well-rooted beauty on Facebook Marketplace and I had to get it! Someone please tell me they would have done the same 😭
It’s actually an investment at that point lol 😂🤣
Exactly. I now have a proper and definitive explanation to provide to my husband.
lol 😂
Winning the internet today
Complete investment. Gains are almost guaranteed.
It’d be crazy NOT to buy it, actually
You would lose money by not buying it
This sounds like my wife and I justifying plants to each other lol
I love you 💕
Plant logic. Love it.
This is the one
Girl math!
😂
I see no poor financial decision to rationalize. If you love plants, and they make you happy, it's not a poor way to spend your money.
I appreciate you!
Unless you had to sell your grandmas diabetes medication to get it. Then it’s bad.
Or grandma herself
That's a pretty specific example, Mooch. 😅
🤫🤫
*unless you can't afford food or rent anymore after the purchase
That’s what I always tell my customers!
Wait, it was only $35? No rationalization needed! That’s a steal! It’s gorgeous 💚💚
At $35, this wasn't a "poor financial decision."
TREAT YO'SELF!
Did you use cash? If so, it was free. Was it on sale? Also free. Does it make you happy? Free. #GirlMath 💁🏼♀️
Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter
Unexpected Simpsons reference!
Quick girl math story: 2008, daughter bought a pair of boots with me debit card for $75. I was furious as she hadn't discussed it with me, and cash was tight.
She looked me dead in the face and said, "They were 50% off - You should be HAPPY I bought them! I SAVED YOU $75!"
Whew! When I tell you I almost got arrested that day... 🤯😳
I might've been arrested too, under those circumstances! Or maybe her for not-so-petty theft! I understand how huge an unexpected $75 charge is! I just had to use my grocery & medication money to pay a light bill someone else is responsible for!! It took all but $6!!
Yes, something about "not-so-petty" thefts hit differently when you're earmarking the funds.
Also when it grows up you can sell cuttings so it’s actually an investment!
How I rationalize all my plant purchases 🤣
TIL I use girl math for cash purposes. Once it leaves my bank account, I consider it spent.
The girl math checks out here
I don’t know you but I love you and we should be friends
You're so right!
Omg cash being “fun money” is so real. Like, I never count it towards my overall money. I don’t usually have much but still lol
Perfect Math
Looking at this logically, what’s the ROI on this plant? Happiness. And what can you NOT put a price on? That’s right, HAPPINESS!
I DECLARE YOU NOT GUILTY!!!!!!! 👩⚖️
You think this is a bad financial decision? I own a timeshare. 😂
I stopped buying plants based on one beautiful leaf; that being said if you have the money and like the plant, buy the plant. Life’s too short. :D
Even the baby leaf is pretty :) I can't wait to see what the newest leaf looks like as it unfurls. I feel like it was a steal at $35 when most other places near me want $75-125+ for less variegation and less-established root systems!
If it was on sale, it’s a good financial decision! I believe they call that Girl Math, but I would apply it to plants and all genders.
I will now be applying girl math to all future plant purchases, thank you.
Happy to enable!
please post updates as it grows! this thing is so pretty!
No need to rationalize. $35 is a steal! I bought one leaf with an aerial root for $30… and I thought I scored 😅
My rule of thumb is, do I like the plant? If yes, buy, if not, do not buy. My plants make me happy and they are good for my grief and mental health in general, so I don’t care beyond that lol 😝
$35 is lunch money! I'd rather have a pretty plant than grab lunch tomorrow!
exactly!!
Is it a Monstera? That’s one of the best looking variegated monsteras I’ve seen
Yes a Monstera Albo! Hopefully she continues to put out such beautiful leaves!
I am very sorry, that large leaf is irrelevant to the colour of the leaves it will put out. I think it will end up as a green one looking at the smaller leaves.
What you can do if it isn't variageted enough is as long as there is a little bit of white. chop it into multiple indervidual cuttings in a year or two and then try to propagate more verigation in as each cutting will be a bit of a lottery as to how much white it gets.
Hi there, I replied to another comment but the smallest leaf is about a quarter solid white - it's the part that's folded over, I think.you can see some of it when you zoom in :) the new unfurling leaf is also pretty speckled with white even though it's still super light while it unfurls!
Oh good! I was really worried you had got a green plant. it is really hard to see.
thats lots of fun, it is exciting to wait and see what comes next!
I agree! That leaf is so pretty!
Not me going immediately to Facebook to look at plants...
It's an unhealthy addiction! I've had notifications turned on for "monstera albo" for so long!
Can't take money into the afterlife
Can’t take plants to the afterlife either.
They can be planted on our dead bodies 😂
Financial decision? Let's take a moment to focus on something more important here. Without you saving this plant, it would probably end up with someone who would over water it. What's money when you're saving lives? Keep up with the good work!
Every dollar you spend on house plants is a dollar you can’t spend on meth
Art is an investment my friend, so technically, you made a wonderful decision 🤓
The difference between a poor financial decision and a long term investment is what you do with it. Sell those propagations when you have an adult plant and enjoy growing cash!
Haha it was mostly a joke :) it's always "no more plants" but we all know how that goes!
It’s only a new plant if my partner notices it. Luckily I mostly collect miniature orchids so i haven’t got a new plant in years 😏
Exactly! lol I have six that magically appeared (or at that’s my terrible excuse if my partner notices). Good thing he doesn’t care about my plants like I do lol haha 🤣
If you arrange them nicely it’s not noticeable. Sometimes I’m just adding them to a terra planter or something so it’s like they grew instead of multiplied 😇
One more just snuck it’s way into my collection last night lol 😂
He’s a baby Thai constellation monstera and his name is Atreides 🥰
It’s gorgeous and having an established root system is great. I bought mine for $175 with 4 leaves on a more established albo. It’s been almost 2 years- now, it’s big and sprouting a lot so i can finally take a bunch of cuttings. I told my mom to give me time and this plant is gonna pay for itself 😂 Since September, I’ve gotten 6 cuttings to give away to friends as goodbye gifts, and the future cuttings can be sold here and there if I want to make back that money.
It’s ok bestie we are in this together 😂
Oh she's so pretty!
People spend thousands of dollars on art to decorate their spaces. If you care for her, she'll continue to do the same and provide you with happiness for years to come at a fraction of the price.
Its gorgeous. It’s going to bring you a lot of happiness and pride, and if you ever decide to cut it you’ll have spent nothing at all. Good choice.
Wow! It’s gorgeous! 😍
This day and age if you have a roof over your head and necessities covered then buy what makes YOU happy.
That variegation is BEAUTIFUL and monsteras are so expensive. Anything under $50 is basically free. 😅 Just make sure to choose the right cuttings so your mother plant keeps the variegation/fenestration you want and doesn't lose the green it needs to photosynthesize.
Not only would I, but I have 3 Thais in various stages of youth atm, and I’m browsing FB for an Albo.
Wishing you good luck on your search!!
Girl, I thought you spent hundreds or something! In all fairness, not all budgets are equally affected by $35. A plant is a pretty healthy way to blow $35 bucks, even if you don't have $35 bucks to blow. I mean, it grows! What else can you buy that grows?!
I buy plants. So I can work harder. So I can earn more. So I can buy more plants.
When it grows bigger you can sell the cuttings for at least $30 each and you would be making a profit by then !!!🤣
Sell cuttings for $100 each or plants for more!!
I did this with my Albo, bought one node and sold about a dozen cuttings off of it.
It's beautiful
Woooow 😍😍 the ones at my local shop still cost 75euros 😫
Oh my god it’s so beautiful 🥺 and for $35?! Bruh this was a wise financial investment tbh
You’d have spent it somewhere else so why not have something that could potentially be around for years!
If it makes you happpy there is no real price.
It's actually a bargain if you paid £35.
Assuming you can still afford to feed yourself, spending $35 on this STUNNING plant doesn't seem like a poor decision!! I was thinking you'd spent several hundred. Enjoy your new baby!
Now that you have it, i just join you in saying "woah".
That's art.
I collect plants and fragrances. I never feel bad about spending money on plants as they're 1/10th of the price of fragrances. Get into Fabergé eggs or something and you'll never feel bad about spending money on plants again
Where did you get this beauty?
Lucky find on Facebook Marketplace :) I've had notifications on for a while and usually check every day
What is this! It’s beautiful!
Monstera albo! Wishlist plant of mine for years!
Oh wow. I hadn’t seen an albo with those middle shades of light green. Absolutely beautiful! I see no waste of money here. Critics can move along 😆🌱
Aren't the leaves of Monstera Albo perforated? I thought it was some variant of Golden Pathos (I like plants, but I've very minimal idea about them)
For mature plants, yes! Fenestrations appear as the plant grows. This is a very young plant which is why there are no fenestrations.
Ah, I see! Thanks for explaining :)
You don't need rationalization; you already know this was the right decision!
I did the same thing on Etsy a month ago. Well rooted top cutting for $150 CAD
$35 is a steal!
I’ve spent $35 on so many things. This is an investment.
Oh, it’s gorgeous! 😍
dude this is GORGEOUS! totally worth it!!
Reason: pretty! Mental health boost! Happy brain chemicals cuz pretty and fascinating.
They grow fast ❤️ definitely worth it considering the insane prices they’ve been going for !!
Woah thanks for all the comments 😭 I promise this isn't actually a big hit, I'm just usually very frugal and dramatic, which is a great combo when I impulse buy plants!
I can't wait to see this grow and I promise I'll love wherever if she reverts!
Wow that’s really cool looking!
So pretty
Omg the comments ya'll are not disappointing 😂 I'm waiting on my mom.in the hospital for her tests (I'm her caregiver) n ya'll are making me lol 🫶🫶🫶🫶❤️🩹
I can barely keep up with them and some of them are making me 👁👄👁
Best wishes for your mom!
Holyshit is that a monstera I’ve never seen such variegation
yeah!! when i saw the pics i had to have it
Beautiful variegation!!!….immediate +! It’s gorgeous!
I definitely would have bought it without batting an eye.
I would pay $35 for that.
People have paid a lot more for way more boofed plants and variegation than that so you did good
Not only would I have done the same, today I spent £60 on three plants when my account was already on negative balance (I went to a garden centre ONLY to get a pot to repot my monstera, they didn't have the size I needed and ended up leaving with a calathea crocata, anthurium clarinervum and philodendron micans, all super velvety which is my weakness). I'm gonna refund some clothes I bought last week to compensate 😂 It's a beautiful cutting at a decent price, probably you would've spent it in something else with less value to you, or you can try to adjust and spend less after this :)
I not only would but have done it. Alocasia Cuprea for very cheap, single leaf but I will take care of it and will come more... hopefully. 😁
That may be the most gorgeous Albo leaf I've ever seen!
$35?????? That's a steal
It is gorgeous!
Google “guy who bought suit to live like a dog in Japan cost of suit” and you will instantly feel better about your purchase
It's pretty and makes you happy. That's all the justification you need.
If you want something enough to buy it, it’s value to you once you as at least what you paid! Love it and enjoy it, and it will remain a rational economic choice.
It’s gorgeous!! 100% would have bought.
I paid $125 for a leaf and a barely rooted node last year 🤣 ya did good. I ain't even mad, I don't care, I love this thing(clearly has grown quite a bit since Feb 2023)
Yes I bought one too.. it's well worth the money
It looks like an expensive painting! So pretty
No rationalizing. You earned it.
How could you not?
I don't see any poor financial decisions 🤷♂️
Such a beautiful plant! You HAD to buy it because if you didnt get it right then, you would have gone home, thought about it constantly, and had to go back for it. Someone would have already bought it and then you would spend MORE money locating and buying a different one. I think you made the most responsible decision here. You practically SAVED money.
YOLO
Absolutely beautiful!!!!
Oh honey I would’ve sold my soul for that, best decision you’ve ever made
It’s stunning! And $35 is a steal for that. 💚🤍🌿
That's 1000% worth it. What a beauty!
That’s gorgeous!
$35... That's a decent price for a plant that size, in good looking condition, with plenty of the desired variegation showing. You got a good deal. Adding it to your collection will no doubt bring you much joy as it grows bigger and frankly becomes worth even more.
Also that's not a ton of money, but if you're still feeling guilty, you could pass up on buying other little luxuries like coffees for a bit to save and "earn" it. Or sell a cutting in a few years when it's big.
Haha yeah it was mostly a joke - I always tell myself not to buy any more plants and then I fall in love with another I *have* to have (:
I have the same problem lol! at least most of the new plants I've received in the last few months were gifted props from like-minded friends.
The title made me expect something more dramatic.
I don't think you have to do any mental gymnastics to justify spending $35. That's like...dinner for one person at a mid range restaurant. Hell, I've seen overpriced nurseries selling basic ass pothos for that much. You're fine.
If you're still concerned, remember that a couple years ago people were paying hundreds for tiny cuttings of albos and PPP. Sometimes they didn't even have a leaf. You're very far from being the most financially irresponsible person in this hobby.
It was mostly just a joke :) I've definitely spent more on a plant but I've definitely bought a lot lately! No regrets here.
How are the other leaves coming out? They kinda look all green, which means it could be a reverted albo, hence the cheap price.
However, $35 for an albo is a great deal!!! I hope you get some variegated growth
The smallest leaf is about a quarter white and the one unfurling looks to be similar to the largest :)
Ahhhh amazing girl!! A hell of a deal :) where I’m at, albo cuttings go for $30 -$50 but normally with an activated node or roots so super awesome for you ✨🥹
Depends on the price. 3 leaves? I'd limit myself to $15, more likely $10, unless it is a Monstera Thai Constellation. I might go for $20-25! I'm cheap b/c I have to be! I live on less than $1k/mo!
Totally understand - where I live it's almost impossible to find albo cuttings that cheap :)
Everybody wants one
How much? And is it a pothos or what?
I’ll sign off on your bull shit, it makes you happy. You paid for therapy. Enjoy.
Sorry I have my own to justify
Sorry, I have no luck with leaved plants, now if it was a pretty big cactus! It is a gorgeous leave.
“I paid $35 and currently have three leaves. When it grows 3 more leaves, it’s basically, free. And one leaf after that, it’s infinite gains.” 🤔
