Discord - Group Chat That’s All Fun & Games

Hi all! This is a resource to help prevent users from falling for malicious behavior. Scammers attempt to trick you through trust, like accepting a "prize" through a malicious link or by using scare tactics, where they convince you to act immediately because something "bad" could happen, so be wary and mindful of your interactions with others. There's helpful information on avoiding scams and what to do if you fall for one below.

A common scam is if a user claims you've been accidentally/falsely reported to Steam or Discord for an infraction or fraud. Don't follow instructions provided by anyone claiming to have accidentally reported your account. The most common things that identify this scam are if someone:

• Says your account has been falsely or accidentally reported
• Directs you to speak with someone through online chat to resolve an investigation or pending ban
• Requests your account credentials or directs you to perform specific security-related operations
• Requests an authentication code sent over email, SMS, or anywhere else
• Says they represent Discord, Steam/Valve, or any other official entity
• Says you must complete a purchase of any kind

If you believe you have received a possible scam from a bot or user account, consider if they:

• Are new, unfamiliar, or unverified (in the case of bot accounts) contacting you unprompted.
• Are not from Discord in the form of an email or System-tagged account.
• Have poor grammar, spelling, or misuse of punctuation/capitalization.
• Offer things that are "too good to be true."

Official Discord gifting uses the discord.gift & discord.com domains and will generate a special embed, as shown in this image (in-app) or this image (link). Scams are not possible through the official browser/client pages/menus.

If these types of bots are repeatedly sending you messages, you can:

• Use Mutual Servers to determine the server(s) they share with you and disable Direct Messages from server members for those servers.
• If you cannot find any shared servers, you can disable DMs from all servers under your User Settings

A user may pretend to be your friend or use a friend's compromised account to get you to download something. Consider if they want you to:

• Scan a QR code
• Check out a video
• Test a game they made
• Practice running code they wrote

These are common forms of malicious behavior. If a user asks you to scan/download something or click an unknown link, this could give away your login information and/or allow a malicious program to enter your computer, which can also compromise your account.

If your account sends these kinds of messages, your account has been compromised. If you...

• ...downloaded and executed malware: You should try and use a different device entirely to change your password (e.g., your phone). You should then follow these steps to completely uninstall Discord, run a complete anti-virus scan, and then re-install Discord. If your account is compromised again when logging in afterward, you may need to factory reset your computer.
• ...entered your password into a malicious/fake website: You should change your password.
• ...something else: You should change your password.

There are several methods to report behavior you believe is a scam/malicious.

This subreddit is not the most appropriate location to ask for/receive support for account-related issues. These issues include:

• Login
• Payment
• Phone verification
• Email

Bugs Fixed

1. [Emojis] can't unfavorite emoji after using skintone
2. Use reports really distorted audio 100% of the time
3. Users report that file sharing broke completely for non audio files
4. [Mobile] Users report channels and categories disappear at random
5. [iOS] Users report that x.com links don't open in the X app.
6. [Android] Pasting images from clipboard (fixed in 232.14)
7. [Audio] Samsung device audio quality significantly degrades when in a voice call (testing internally, expected to reach stable in 6/10)
8. [Voice] Volume of some users being inconsistent
9. [Desktop] Gray Screen Issue - We've been able to track this issue down to a regression in electron . We've deployed a patch that should address the issue, so gray screens should be a thing of the past now.

Bugs that are in-progress

1. [Voice] Auto disconnect and connects if Discord become idle
2. [Go-Live] Potential GTX 9XX issue with H265
3. [Go-Live] Sound popping/cracking when screensharing - We’re able to reproduce the issue and confirmed it’s a driver issue. We’re waiting for Microsoft to publish a fix.
4. [Go-Live] App freezes/crashes when I stream something in a vc and someone goes to watch or someone else streams something in a vc and I go to watch - We’re collaborating with AMD to fix this issue.
5. [iOS] [Chat] jumping to an old message via a link doesn't take you to the message - We’re able to reproduce and working on a fix. . [Emojis] The :handshake: emoji doesn't have skin tone variants. - We’re able to reproduce the issue and exploring potential fixes. The unicode handshake emoji is actually has multiple variants of all the combinations of left - right sides.
6. [Emojis] The emoji selector doesn't scroll unless the sheet is expanded on iOS. - Will be addressed as part of additional expression picker changes.
7. [Chat] When navigating to a channel, if there's over N new messages, the user is shown the latest message with no "New Messages" indicator. - We’re able to reproduce the issue and exploring potential fixes.
8. [Nitro] Pagination in transaction history doesn't display maximum number of pages properly.

Reporting a Bug

1. The most valuable thing you can provide in a bug report is steps. If you’re able to provide steps to reproduce a high priority issue, it will dramatically improve turnaround time on a fix.
2. Screenshots or videos are also useful, especially if you can’t reliably reproduce it. We highly recommend editing them to not doxx yourself. Not only does it help contextualize the issue, but watching it occur can sometimes provide information that helps us identify and fix it.

• Feature: Keybinds.
• Reproduction Rate: 1 to 10 - This is a score of how easy/consistently the bug reproduces, from 1 meaning “very hard to reproduce” to 10 meaning “i can consistently make this happen”
• Annoyance: 1 to 10 - How annoying is this bug to your daily usage of Discord, from 1 meaning, “not that annoying” to 10 meaning “this bug really truly sucks please fix this as soon as possible.”

• Description: Toggle Mute keybinds are no longer functioning.
• Steps to reproduce:
• Create a keybind for “Toggle Mute”.
• Join a voice call with another user.
• Press the “Toggle Mute” button.
• Expected Result: The user is muted.
• Actual Result: The user is not muted.

Every time i get a notification discord (pc) opens/ comes into the foreground, which is getting really annoying :)

i have an emoji of my bfs dog that looks like 1 half of a weird heart and i wanna make two emojis of it, but the big gap in between kinda kills the illusion. help?

On Windows. It started a few days ago, Discord stopped giving me desktop notifications or making sounds or badges or literally giving me any indication at all anyone had messaged me, until I open the Discord window and then all the notifications come in at once. As you can imagine, this makes notifications more than useless.

Is this a known issue / is there anything I can do to stop this? It stops momentarily when I restart the whole app but it starts doing it again shortly after.

this guy after I blocked his main for being a crybaby made an alt and spammed me, is this a banable offense?

I'm on a MacBook pro and I'm having issues with my audio output being picked up on the internal input. I've done my best going through every combination of settings I can find. My next solution is to just pick up an inexpensive external microphone. Any suggestions?

I was trying to use the listen along feature with my friend and I just could not use it because of the bug. For example, if my friend is at second 0:40 out of 2:30 of a song, Discord will tell me that he already finished the song, and that he is at 2:30.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to know if there is a fix for this, I bought a new jlab mic that sounds fine on zoom and when recorded with obs, but when I use it with discord, there is a lot of static and noise and my voice cuts off, I tried every noise filter available on the text, none, standard, and krisp but none seem to fix the problem, does anyone have a solution?

I was trying to make an alt and then I got my acct disabled IMMEDIATELY after creating it. I mean i didn't even get to create an initial server. Does anyone know why this is?

is there a way to remove the fullscreen upper and lower buttons ? i can't seem to find a way to fix this, it stays that way the entire live

Reactions don’t work

The react button doesn’t work, it’s allowed by the server admin as I see everyone else reacted for a role but for me it doesn’t work, anyone know how to fix this

How pretty. Back in the day Lost Ark quest gave us permanent Mokoko decoration; now Discord has decided to award people with temporary decorations instead. Now there's no reason to complete decoration-related quests - rewards will just vanish after 2 months.

Not sure if this is my computer, or discord itself.

But if I have discord either minimized or behind another application, it will just freeze.

VC still works while it’s minimized, but when I pull discord back up I have to wait about 10-20secs for it to unfreeze. Any fixes?

So my friend gifted me the simple nitro a while ago Then when it was 4 days before it expired asked me to carry him in a random game and he will buy me the expensive one, after i carried he gifted it but i still have the old simple nitro features (yes it didn't expire yet) any idea what im supposed to do? Or does it activate when the old one is up?

I've tried literally everything I could find online: clearing browser cache, logging out of discord/spotify, reconnecting, reinstalling, connecting through the browser, launching both as admin, nothing works. I have absolutely no idea what to do at this point

Sometime this week, me and a friend are going to watch Underworld together because she hasn't seen it. And I hadn't tried this idea yet and was wondering how well it'd work.

So my plan was to get OBS to point to VLC and in turn, screen share Discord so that way it'll look like it'll work. But I'm wondering if there's any hitches. Our internet is good. VLC and OBS are up to date. Discord is currently up to date for now.

We're both Windows users.

My other question is, how well will they hear the audio from screen share?
