I'm on parental leave spending my nights playing Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree but I feel like I gotta be honest with myself that this game and souls-likes just aren't for me now that I can't put in as much time these days lol. Still love it though and having a great time.

Yeah lol my daughter goes down at 8:30, we spend 30min doing chores, spend 30 minutes scrolling and talking and we’re out by like 9:30-10. It’s so much easier waking up refreshed every morning and you get some sleep to hedge from random rough sleep nights

Currently playing a very slow game of Morrowind using the Tamriel Rebuilt mod expansion. Iv been playing for 2 weeks and yet to leave the first main city in the Mod cause I get like an hour to play every now and then and half of that is spent trying to remember WTF I was doing lol 🤣

I went down the isle to your pretty when I'm drunk by the blood hound gang and came back up it to black sabbaths war pigs, these were not the intended songs but the player had fit before the service and kept randomly skipping so we went with the lucky dip option.
To be fair, you almost can't go wrong with ANY Elder Scrolls game.
Morrowind is solid, especially with the mod Knobanious is using. That thing will keep you busy for a solid year, easily.

On one hand I love the way the quests are handled with markers of hand holding but on the other hand some of them are almost impossible to do if you leave the game mid way though for a few days and come back to as the journal sometimes lacks a lot of the useful info that may have been included in the conversation that you have now forgotten lol. Although there's normally a wiki online for the quests to help jog your memory. Overall I think it's better than just brainlessly following a map marker
Morrowind is such a brilliant game. The peak of Elder Scrolls in my opinion.

I remember all the backlash about GTA being filled with drugs and hookers. Mean while my parents were convinced I was playing some wholesome fantasy game on my Xbox when in reality I was delivering slaves which were being used as human drug trafficers and cut open on arrival, using dead bodies as loot containers and killing and stealing from countless innocent people and working with demons and satanic gods, drugs and potions to make me more powerful.

I am so envious of you dude. I started my first play through while out on paternity time with my first kid. Did a second play through while out for my second. Currently mid third play through that is taking forever due to gestures broadly at household.

It's just criminal how Rockstar neglected that game after releasing it. There was so much potential for DLCs and making online amazing like GTA, but they chose to do the absolute bare minimum instead.

Me too! Took me a while to get into it till I got a vasectomy and played for 3 days straight 😂. I don't know if it would have been my jam a few years ago, but the older I get and the more kids I have the more I appreciate how peaceful the game can be sometimes 😁 in the chaos of everything it's kind of nice to play a game that's not just manic action all the time.

Same just started this weekend! Loved the first one and bought a ps5 when I seen gta 6 new trailer back in January. And they just put it on for free if you have a subscription. This should fill my time til gta comes out.
I started playing fallout 4 after watching the show. It was only 17 bucks on steam for the game and DLC. I'd never played any fallout games before and I fell in love.
Its so cool to see another wave of renewed interest in Fallout again. First time happened when Fallout 3 made its way to consoles plus PC and that introduced the Fallout series to a whole new generation of gamers. The game took place in DC and I remember visiting my brother at the time who works in DC and there would be giant banners in the DC subways advertising the game in the same subways you visit in the game!
Now another whole new generation of gamers can discover the Fallout series thanks to the show! Some people are upset over canon issues but meh, enjoy the show and the games how ever you see fit!
Definitely! Having played 4 and getting to the "end", I don't see any issues with what they did in the show. I enjoyed the show immensely and the game did not disappoint.
Currently into It Takes Two with my 3 and 5 year olds (and mom) - swapping controllers whenever someone dies. It's been super fun 😊
Edit: Also did a play through of Sackboy and that was a blast as well due to 4 player couch co-op. Hoping they add DLC for extra levels!

That game is just silly, relaxing, and fun. No way to be stressed playing it (until the level with the lasers).
The game came out on gamepass the day we had our last miscarriage. We were absolutely devastated and catatonic because we made it to 16 weeks which was the longest yet before the no heartbeat. I convinced my wife to try it to get our minds off the situation and it legitimately helped us in ways I can't describe. What a beautiful game. I mentioned that in another sub and had one of the devs reach out to me to say how much that meant to them and made it that much more special. We made it to the finish line the following attempt and I'm excited to play through the game again when my daughter is old enough to do so.

I love this series. The PS3 can finally be retired (I’ve given up on any college hoops series so I just mod NBA in the Pc).
It's great. I found my copy of NCAA 14 for the 360 earlier this year and ended up selling it for $125.00...figured that money would cover the cost of the new game and then some for me.

My four year old loves to watch me play Minecraft. He doesn't want to play (yet). He just loves to watch me play. I talk about what I'm doing and talk to him to make it fun. I feel like I'm a streamer for an audience of 1.
Yeah, my daughter likes to play in creative by herself.
When we play together, we play in survival mode. I do all the exploring/mining bc that's what I like, and she does the farming and building of our main base.
I'll get her to come explore with me every once in a while, and it's super fun. She's not the best at attacking bc she's afraid of dying, but that's ok, we still have fun.
Have you tried turning on keep inventory. That's what I do with my daughter so she doesn't have to worry about losing her stuff when she dies.
Torch out an entire chunk of land (caves and everything) and get him back into survival.
Unless he's actually building gigantic structures that couldn't possibly be created without flying or infinite resources. That would just mean the game is ruined for you, lol.
just think of creative mode as virtual lego. Come up with a cool project to build together.
I’m revisiting games I can pause. 😅 So now going for 100% on Mario Wonder and Mario Bros U Luigi. After that I think I’ll start with 2 Metroid games I still have laying around.
I've had Tears of the Kingdom since it came out but still haven't finished it because every time I get a chance to play it's been so long that I've forgotten what's going on 🙄
Tears of the kingdom is one of the best parent games too hop in and out of. The storyline is interesting but super easy to follow. All of your quests are broken down into different sections, and when you click on them you get descriptions and map markers. You can also recall info on any character you meet.
I say give it a shot again and just read through the menu info real quick. Or just go explore and stumble upon new quests. Such a fun game and one of like 3 games I've played in the past 7 years.
That's why istay away from big games like that. I know they're fun, but I know I'll never finish them between the brain fog and the lack of time.

Replaying the assassins creed Ezio trilogy. It's been 3 months and I'm almost halfway done the first game!
Man, maybe that’s what I should do to get back into it. I stopped playing at Black Flag when our oldest was born in 2016 and last year I bought the 4 that come after it and just couldn’t get through them for some reason. Maybe I should go back to the beginning and see if the Ezio games hook me like they did way back when.
I've enjoyed them all (except unity), and they got very RPGy in the last couple. But I get suckered into the stories.
For my money, the first 2 Ezio ones (2 and brotherhood) and Black Flag were the best of the series.
Still one of my favourite series, just don't get the time to play them between work and kids. But when I do..

Just did my second playthrough, then went back to Fallen Order again. Survivor is great. Make sure to do all of Caij’s bounty missions - it’s worth the work!

When I had my parental leave (assuming you are having this with a new born!) I played Xcom 2 and Diablo 3. Both games that I could put down at a moments notice and come back to later. Diablo was good for just zoning out whilst being tired. Xcom was perfect for pick up and play and no need to worry about my reactions
My daughter loved listening to "no promises to keep" (the live version in YouTube, First Take). I'm a lifelong FF fan and she's listened to a ton of FF music in her life
FF7 soundtrack is what I play in he car to get my kids to sleep.
My son was born exactly a week before Rebirth came out. It's the only thing I've played since. When he was a couple weeks old, I calculated that 7% of his entire life had been sleeping on my chest while I played it. I'm about 195 hours in and closing in on the Platinum Trophy. Other than that, my gf and I play Wingspan twice a week on Switch.
I started FF7 original on switch. It's great as I can just hit the home button on the switch to sleep it instead of playing through to a save point.

I'm down with fromsoft games as a gamer dad. I just don't care anymore if I die, at all, or lose runes or whatever. It's just the experience and if I die to a boss too many times then I go somewhere else for awhile or just turn it off for a few days. Sekiro is my favorite action game of all time and it took me two year-long breaks and four years total to beat it, now I've beaten it 3.5 times and I will get the last ending by December.
I can’t play anything where I need to say “ok what was I doing last time?” to begin the session. So I just stick to Battlefield 1 lol. I’d love to be able to pick up something more juicy like Elden Ring, Enshrouded, etc but alas, I chose domestication.

Diablo 4 right now
Diablo 4 for solo play, Fortnite when wife or the kids wants to play (9,7,7), and Forza Motorsport for me time. I loved Forza Horizon 4 as well. 5 is still really good but 4 was my fave.
D4 you can easily do a few minor quests in 30-45 minutes and outside of the intro videos isn’t too bad violence wise with the kids around.
With Forza it’s pretty easy to get a career race weekend done in less than 30 minutes.
Been playing D4 since launch last year with my wife. The couch co op features are implemented so well on the ps5. Though stuff like Pit difficulty spikes, sorc problems, classic grinding/farming of materials and shrinking end game content have been a small sour note currently for the game
Game is still really fun and I enjoyed the main storyline too. Current season is great and the first expansion is launching in october.
I play guitar and when my daughter does not sleep in my room (where my pc is) I can spend hours on my minecraft survival world. It’s almost not okay how much I’ve built there while not being able to show anyone
Dragon Age II.
I'm playing the whole trilogy, started with Dragon Age: Origins. Hope to finish Dragon Age: Inquisition in time for Dragon Age: The Veilguard's release.
Also playing Shadow of the Erdteee. I'm at the last boss fights with my Str/Faith guard counter build, but running around trying to get those last Scaudtree fragments.
I actually find Souls games pretty good to play as a parent, Elden Ring especially. Even in most boss fights you can exit the game, retain your runes, and start back at the location you left off. An immediate pause would certainly be more helpful, but I haven't found it too bad. I've also desensitized myself to losing large amounts of runes so that helps. Runes are temporary, you can always go get more.
I'm new to Elden ring. How do you exit fights with your runes?
If you exit the game through the System menu while in a boss fight you'll be outside the fog wall with all your runes when you start again.

We're at 3.5 months now ahah. I've been able to get back into gaming which has been awesome.
There's rumors of a new DLC in the works. It's almost as expensive as the base game though, and it's not coming for another 9 months.

I've been able to play maybe 20 hours of Cyberpunk on the big TV in the past 2 months... Find it a lot easier to play the Switch when I have some downtime or before bed, Dave the Diver and Pikmin series have been surprisingly good. My friends are trying to get me to get Helldivers and Baldurs Gate but I definitely will not have the time for them right now.
Forza Horizon. Great because races are short and its easy to set down and walk away from if anyone wakes up and needs something.

I actually loved playing souls games as the act of getting from bonfire to bonfire i treated as a level and treated the slog between as the time.
I treat that bit as a challenge and they become smaller levels to me but huge achievements
Finished Uncharted 2 a month ago, now part way through Uncharted 3
Once that's done I'll move on to Uncharted 4 then I'll need to find a new game series to play

After my first was born, I started playing mostly games that had an actual pause feature, where the game just stops and waits for me to get back, and not open up a system menu while the game world continues on without me.
I just didn't want to inconvenience anyone I could be playing with or against with my sudden absence. Not really fair to them in my book.
Lately, I've been really into Anno 1880 and Civ VI. Which is great, since we're having our second in a couple months, so I'll be good to go. Haha.

I've usually got a couple I switch between. When my 4 yr old is around I play things she'll enjoy watching. Right now I'm playing through Dark Cloud (ps2) and she likes watching me play the Hot Wheels Unleashed game (ps5).
But if she's not around, right now it's Cyberpunk 2077 (ps5). Also eagerly awaiting the new Astrobot game for both us in September

I have been jumping around a lot, but my main staple is Overwatch 2. Quick games, different playstyles and strategies to learn but within a simple "shoot the other guy, hold the point, push the bot," type of framework. My other recent solo games have been Battletech, Boltgun (love 40k, super fun if you enjoy boomershooter style games.) Another fun instance based shooter is Roboquest.
My 2 most recent retro loves have been Caves of Qud for a fun "wtf is happening" roguelike, and the greatest base builder ever Dwarf Fortress, after only 2 failed fortresses from starvation and disease, and one where my dwarves went crazy from not having alcohol and started killing each other, I finally have a stable fortress where no one is starving. I love this game.
I got a Retroid Pocket 4 a while back, and currently on my first ever playthrough of Suikoden II on PSX. At the final boss of Chrono Trigger and before those two I finished Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2.

A remake of Riven just came out. I started playing it last night and it's amazing and nostalgic. I like to play Squad with my buddies, for a realistic milsim style, first person shooter.
As for tabletop games, my buddies and I recently got into Warhammer 40K, using bootleg 3D printed miniatures. We're also playing the Netrunner card game.
Currently cycling between 3 games depending on mood and time.
Slay the Princess- a very interesting branching path visual novel.
Hardspace ship breaker- a "post dad" game. You listen to americana music as you take apart space ships. It works in 15 minute chunks, so pretty easy to put down.
Stardew Valley- We all know this one.

Playing Judgment on Ps5. I never really played these style of rpgs before but I played and beat Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth lately and I absolutely loved those games. I own a few yakuza games and I really want to dive into those but Judgment is such a cool spin off and the characters are so interesting and the grand scope of the game is "smaller" than the huge lasting impacts Like a Dragon brought into the game's universe.
Just hit chapter 5 and my jaw dropped when story events where unveiled.
I just started Like a Dragon last week, it's my first Yakuza game and I'm really enjoying it so far.
Yeah, same boat for me. Enjoy! It took a little bit of time for me to get used to these games because it throws a lot out at you very quickly.
Hades 2 is lit
Hades. Again. (Still?) Close to 100%ing my third save file. This is fine right?
Destiny 2 is my main game (really gotta scratch time out for that one) and I'm replaying the assassin's creed series, never played anything past unity so I'm excited to continue the story as I'm on revelations now
Fallout 4
Currently hopping between Civilization V, Hearts of Iron IV, and Wargame: Red Dragon.
Some other stuff on rare occasions but I generally stick to slower paced single player stuff I can drop whenever someone needs me.
Ended up reverting back to the older games because my gaming rig died. Thought of replacing it but the money is better spent elsewhere for the time being.
Besides, the latest addition means we lose the spare bedroom/computer room so no more space for a big rig.
Hogwarts Legacy. I can get a solid 30 minutes in each night if I want. Have drug myself out of bed instead of staring at my phone the last couple weekends to get some extra time in.
