This is our Lilly (5 yo, F). She ate a flower on Monday that turned out to be poisonous lilly to her. As of Wednesday, she is barely hanging on. Please send good vibes to her.
Cat PictureShe is fighting.
What has the vet said?
I hope your cat stays well and will survive this
I know everyone would like an update. I wish I could share one. I will not know anything until morning.
Unfortunately it’s going to be a long night wondering if she’ll make it at the vet.
I’m so sorry you and she are going through this. I’m sending every positive thought y’all’s way and hope everything turns out alright. I hope you at least get some sleep, as well.
From my Lily to your Lily…Stay Strong
I truly truly wish you all the best of luck. She seems like a beautiful cat full of love, I’m really really hoping everything turns out good. Sending you both so much love ❤️
Hoping she pulls through! I know the feeling and it’s nerve wrecking. Both my babies are lilly survivors and spent four nights at the hospital. Sending her all my love and good thoughts
The same thing happened to my kitty a couple years ago. The vet treatment worked, so I hope the same for you and Lilly, and that this bitter night quickly becomes a distant memory.
You’ve got all of us sending love and good vibes her way!! That can’t hurt. Hope you can get some sleep, I know it’ll be hard.
i am sending love and healing thoughts to Lilly, your mother and family ❤️❤️❤️
Sending healing energy! 😻
You’re doing everything right, and all things considered caught it relatively quickly. No one can say how things will turn out, but you have a lot of people here rooting for Lilly, and that’s gotta count for something.
I’m sorry you and your family are going through this on top of your mom’s health issues - try to get some rest tonight.
I hope your sweet girl makes it! ❤️
I hope your sweet baby made it thru the night! It's so hard when our fur babies are sick and hurting. I lost my willow 3.5 weeks ago, so I know what you're prob feeling right now. I'm thinking of you and your lilly.💜💜
She did but unfortunately her kidneys are badly damaged. We need her to be urinating today
Oh poor kitty! I will be hoping for her to pee soon!! Come on Lilly, time to pee!!
Pee Lilly PEE! Then you can go home!
Oh please pee lilly ! Best wishes I hope she makes a full recovery. We're all sending love yours and her way. ❤️
Best wishes to you and Lily! I will be sending you all the positive vibes and pray she makes it 🤍
Hugs. Wishing her a full recovery ❤️🩹
I’ve been there, woke up one morning my cat got into the room where we had flowers. Not knowing there was a few Lillie’s hidden amongst them. The powder was everywhere and she was sick so many times. Rushed her straight to the vet where she was given charcoal and hooked up to a drip. They then had to operate, she wasn’t insured at the time but she’s my baby so I told them what ever it takes. They operated and said just need to wait and see. Then we got the phone call to say she was getting better and we could come collect her. She is now insured and any flowers that come into the house are inspected at the door. I hope you have the same outcome with your baby
I'm so paranoid about any flowers. Recently got two new kittens and coincidentally had been given two bunches of flowers by different people a couple of days before. I'm not good at identifying flowers so they went right in the bin. Felt slightly guilty but they would have ended up there a week later anyway and I wasn't risking it. I'll only ever have roses or sunflowers in the house now
Prayers for you and your kitty 🙏❤️🙏
Sending Lilly, you, and your family love OP! ❤️
Lots of care to Lily and you.
Please give us an update tomorrow morning praying for you and your daughter
Hugs
I'm sure she'll be OK. There's nothing more you can do for her, you've taken her to the best place she can be
In the midst of the grim news today, my wife and I visited her at the vet. They took her out of her cage and put her in a room where the sun was shining.
At home, she likes the windows open and sitting in the sun.
She is not lethargic. She is alert and standing, but not eating. We desperately need her to urinate as that is a sign that kidneys are working.
Please pray for these next 24 hours.
Praying for your sweet kitty!💚🙏💚
Come on sweet Lilly-pea, pee! I will be hoping for you and your kitty from afar. I know how hard it is to be away from a critically ill furry family member, hang in there.
Come on Lilly, you kurious kitty! You can do it!! PEEEEEEEEeeeeeeEEEEEeeee peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Strange thing to write, but I am happy to pray for urine today for you, sweet Lilly.
I assume they have her on an iv with lactated ringers? If not, would be worth asking the vet if that would be an option here. That can help her rehydrate and flush the kidneys out.

She's been on it since Monday.
All my hopes for her. I’ve never even met this cat and I’m pulling for her so hard
Zeus sends love and healing vibes from san francisco
Dude, I can feel the power through this photo. Zeus is next level, for sure.
He actually looks like a reallife pikachu..
Name checks out
Lilly Update 10:00 a.m.:
I just got off the phone with the vet. Lilly is still with us but not with a better prognosis. We are almost 72 hours since the ingestion of lilies.
The lily toxicity has caused irreparable damage to her kidneys. The kidney values in her blood work are increasing. This means she is not urinating the toxins out at an effective rate. They are giving her medication to help with urine production.
If the kidney values are still increasing after 24 hours, we may have to make that dreaded decision. If it comes to that, we are bringing her home one last time.
If she overcomes this episode, her lifespan has been shortened. We pray we can get at least 5 more years at the most with her.
My wife, boys, other fur babies, and I want to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes. They are needed now over the next 24 hours more than ever!
My friends cat was in stage 5 liver failure. They said they should put her down. After a few weeks of iv fluids and antibiotics she has improved to stage 2. Anything is possible. Keep being strong for Lilly. I am sending all my love and healing energy her way.
Ty for sharing - Is your friends cat still with us?
Yes! And better every day! It makes me so happy.
I am sending more good vibes and prayers your way. Fight Lilly fight!
Hang in there Lilly!! We are all pulling for you 🙏
I’m sorry you’re going through this 💔 best wishes to the both of you ❤️
im so sorry. is there any option of dialysis? wishing you and her well.
This is so sad. I am praying for Lilly. I assume she is on iV and I hope her kidneys can turn the corner and get the toxins out.
Especially with Easter right around the corner. I see a lot of Lilly’s everywhere I go.
Good idea! I feel like a lot of people don’t know how poisonous plants like lilys are. I love plants but my cat is obsessed with eating plants (favorite treat is lettuce) so I’ve had to keep my house plant free. I think if you have any pet it’s safest to either research which ones are safe or go plant free.
All alliums. Keep onions and garlic away from the kitties too. Basically any plant with a bulb.
Jep. When we got our cats my wife gave away about 26 of her plants that would be poisonous to our cats. Then we found a webshop that had a category "cat safe plants" and we got some new ones.
When we get flowers from anywhere we also always gift them to one of our mums since we don't trust our cats to stay out of them.
And garlic and onion! I cook with garlic in EVERYTHING, and had no idea until very recently that garlic is essentially cyanide for cats. Just a very tiny amount can kill them.
Fortunately, I found out the easy way (read about it). My whole life I've let my cats have a nibble of what I'm eating, so I'm surprised nothing's gone horribly wrong before.
Apparently it's "15 to 30 grams of garlic per kilogram of the cat's body weight". So while still obviously don't want them to have any, I don't think you need to freak out if they snatch a bite when you're not looking. For a normal cat it's apparently a few cloves, like 5ish, before it's problematic and needs vet attention. I just googled it and this was the only one from a vet that looked it up and had a real ld50.
I didn't know about this lilly thing tho so that's good to learn
My kitty ate a small bit of green onion and I was so worried but he was totally fine. He also once ate some leaves of a toxic plant (purple shamrock) and was fine. I love flowers/plants but got rid of everything since he'll eat anything!
Had no idea about the garlic and onion. Oh my. Thanks for the information I’ve never seen before.
Roses are completely safe.
And orchids! They’re the only flowers I have inside my house.
The only flowers i have in mine ^ Totally safe 👏😅
Omg, I've been contemplating buying these! You've helped make up my mind, they look great!
Highly recommend! It was fun to build it too, with my two little “helpers”
So adorable!!!
Not really, considering my mother’s cat almost lost her eye on a rose. She was sniffing a bouquet, thorn poked her, and she’s still blind in that eye years later.
I’m allergic to flowers & essential oils anyway, so I just keep them all out of my house regardless. Guess that’s why I also don’t understand the interest in those things. lol
Sorry about your mom’s kitty. However, dethorning them mitigates this issue. My baby loves roses. I get her a fresh dozen weekly for her to monch.
I usually dethorn them when I get roses anyway, makes it way easier to arrange in the vase I’m sorry about your moms kitty.
Gerber's and roses are completely safe for cats. It's not all flowers.
I wanna thank everyone for prayers and well wishes. I had a breakdown tonight before making this post but seeing the responses is putting a smile on my face.
No matter what the outcome is, thank you!
At a later date, I will share pics of our other fur babies Tinsel and Poppy (from the same litter as Lilly).
You have my most sincere hopes that your Lilly makes it. I just lost mine today after weeks of cancer. You can have the share of luck I couldn't use.
I’m so very sorry for the loss of your brave and beautiful cat. 💔
Hey man, just went through something with my cat too and he is on the up and up now. She will pull through too, cats are tough, especially considering she is only 5. Me and my kitties are sending our support!
I just left a comment about my dog doing this too & she's 12 years old. Kitty is young, healthy, and got medical attention right away, the odds are in her favor 💪
❤️ thinking you and Lilly and I hope she feels better soon.
I sincerely hope everything goes well for you guys and Lilly!! You deserve the support and no matter what happens, you’ve done everything you can 🫂
I love all of their names! I hope Lilly makes a full recovery. ❤️🩹
She will pull through!
Hang on, Lilly!
5:00 update:
She still has trouble peeing.
If there are any cat experts and/or vets in this thread, would it be best for us to bring her home for the night and put her in a calm room with a litter box to see if she’ll go?
The vet tech said one reason why she is probably not going is because she is nervous.
I had a similar situation (too nervous to pee after a near-death traumatic event) with a cat I was fostering years ago. I would ask the vet if they have any rooms where you can sit with her, with no other people or animals around. Bring the litter box in there with her and see if she’ll use it after some time in there with just you. Put her in or near the box.
Take her home if you haven’t already. I’m feeling so sad for some reason. Mine almost died years ago from ingesting an unknown toxin. 3 weeks in and out of hospital, a feeding tube, and $7500 later (major metro area in the US), he somehow pulled through and we went home. He was 5 years old at the time.
I am still praying for your kitty to pee. Go, Lily, go!!
Not a vet tech but a kitty mom And yes take her home to pee!!!
I went through this less than two weeks ago. Bring her home. Sending you love and luck!!
Hope she pees at home tonight. Good luck Lilly! Been thinking about you all day.
Not a cat expert, but my dog went through a similar-ish experience a few weeks back where her blood protein levels were almost catastrophically low, and the emergency vet said she needed to eat but wasn't doing so for them after multiple days and many appetite stimulants. We picked her up after one final transfusion at 3am, and while the next 24 hours were incredibly difficult on all of us, she clearly felt better and safer with her family. After a few halfhearted nibbles throughout the day she FINALLY started eating in earnest the night after she came home, and things have been going slowly uphill since then.
Even if that hadn't been the case (and there were multiple points where we expected the worst), just looking in her eyes and observing her body language let us know we made the right choice in bringing her home. I laid on the floor with her all night and she gazed at me for as long as she was awake after we brought her home. The emergency vet saved her life, but so did being with her family.
Continuing to send healing vibes to you all. So many people are pulling for you, Lilly!
Hope she pulls through. She’s clearly loved dearly. Sending good vibes and my cat’s healing purrs to Lilly.
Oh, all of my best wishes to you and Lilly
9 AM: No update from the vet yet. Please keep sending prayers to her
She made it through the night! Good sign. You’re a great cat parent.
Wishing you and Lilly all the best. No news yet can be good news..
Sending prayers!
I just tell most people to not get me flowers because the majority of the population aren’t aware of how dangerous they are to cats, especially Lillys. I think before a cat is adopted, people should be made aware somehow so things like this can be prevented. I’ve seen it in this sub far too often. I remember telling my mom that her flowers were incredibly dangerous to her cats, and she scoffed at me, so I dumped them outside. I don’t give a shit, I really only care about the cats. I wish Lilly the best of luck, and I hope she pulls through!!!
Just a sweet lady from church brought them. We never get flowers anyway because my wife is allergic and she was going to throw them away after kindly receiving them and saying “thank you!”
I’m so sorry OP! But I feel like with the name Lilly, she was built to face this, and I hope hope hope she starts trending in an upward direction!!!
After our house was built, my partner's mother came to visit. She brought in a GIANT Lilly bouquet, and I was immediately like "yeah that's gonna have to go back in your car" lol. And asked her to wash her hands to be safe. Gotta protect the kitties.
Unfortunately, some people refuse to listen even when made aware. One wannabe influencer posted pictures of getting her cat to smell a lily, and people kept telling her how poisonous they are and to take the cat to a vet. She said something like, "I think my cat has immunity."
🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
There was someone like that on Reddit once; they kept arguing “I keep an eye on her,” and “I put them up high when I’m not around.” Just throw out the damned flowers ffs. I think they were just being stubborn for the sake of it.
I hope OP’s cat has a full recovery! 🙏🏻
Yeah. That’s why I dug up all the Lily plants in my yard after we bought our house and replanted with cat safe flowers.
Me and my little dumbass are thinking of you and Lilly, and hope we have you a chuckle with this ☺️
Toothless 😲
My baby boy sends you two the best of wishes 💗.
aww his little goatee
Iris wants Lilly to be her flower friend. Flowers in names, not tummies. May Lilly push through to be as old and grumpy as Iris is. She's 13 and doesn't want to share anything with her stinky little brother.
My Bean and chewing Lillies survivor is sending your Lilly strong survivor energy. Bean spent three days in hospital and came out alive last year. The only lasting damage is to her voice. The toxins damaged her vocal cords and now her meows are very subdued and scratchy. I’ve since banned all plants from our house and all replaced by plastic. Any flowers brought in by visitors are placed out of any cats reach.
Best of luck Lilly!! My cat Chilli looks exactly like her and also eats things he’s not supposed to
Chilli & Lilly! 😂 they are little twins and ought to have their own show 🖤🤍
Best of luck to tou and Lilly, I hope she pulls through and makes a miraculously good recovery❤️ Here is a pic of another lookalike. She, as well, tries to eat everything, from stealing human food (she especially loves bread) to nibbling on various potted plants. She tried to steal a vitamin D soft capsule a few days ago, but thankfully I managed to take it away.
He looks like he swallowed a canary.
Sending good vibes :7984:
Major update for this thread:
Lilly passed at 1:45 today.
We are heartbroken by her loss. She was surrounded by love till the end.
We want to thank everyone for your prayers and kind words.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please remind yourself you did absolutely everything you could do to help Lilly. I’m 100% sure she lived a great life with the best cat parents.
Lilly was so lucky to have you and family. She lived a full life. So sorry for your loss. Thank you sharing and touching everyone’s lives. We are all sending love to you and your family. Lilly is forever loved.
I’m so so sorry for your loss. I’ve been checking this post often in hopes of a miracle but at least she’s no longer suffering.
Kona sends his most magical wishes for Lilly to recover.
She's a beautiful queen, surely she will pull through!
Sending strength to sweet Lilly, and to you.
My Lilly is also sending her love and wishes you the best of luck
Callie sends her love and says, “Get well soon, Lilly! You got this!” 💕
I love Callie's cat toes
Thank you! One of her many nicknames is “dirty paws”
1) because she’s always getting into something or opening a door or climbing somewhere she shouldn’t & 2) because she has white socks on each paw but they all have some sort of spot on them 🐾
9:00 am update:
We have not heard anything. We want to try to bring her home today.
I keep checking up on you. Hope you and the family are doing okay, despite everything. Lilly is in my thoughts!
Good luck, Lilly! You're a beautiful, strong girl with humans who love you very much, and even more people rooting for you! Keep fighting through it, and we all wish you a speedy and full recovery.
My cat also ate a poisonous plant around the same age as Lilly. After she was hospitalized she lived another 11 years. Praying and sending good vibes that Lilly recovers and lives a long and healthy life too.
My Lily hopes your Lilly feels better. (And so do I!)
Please give us an update!
All my hopes, and from my Lily to your Lilly
This post enacted me to immediately research the plant currently on my counter. My mom just bought a huge hydrangea plant (she’s 75, and can be a bit naive or absentminded with items left out). She intended on keeping it out on the table for Easter then planting it outdoors. It turns out these plants are listed as toxic to cats. She doesn’t want it outside due to the chill, so out to the garage it goes!! We have 4 cats… with the babies (Barry and Bean) not even a year yet. I have already taken them off the counters 3 times already!! So we truly THANK YOU for this critical timed post. And I am so, so sorry that it even happened. I hope Lilly gets better soon!!
You are welcome! I’m glad we are making awareness on this and potentially saving lives.
Poor baby.
Also, Lilly, don’t eat stuff just because it’s named after you.
My girl did something similar about a year ago. Ate or drank something. Kept her with me overnight after fluids. She was so cold and tired but she hung on! Now she’s on special food for her stomach.
Oh my, she's so ornery looking. She's adorable.
Her Royal Highness Princess Calisto Fuzzybutt sends her best wishes for a speedy recovery for your loved one Lilly.
You can do it Lilly.
My 1 year old orange got himself covered in pollen a couple weeks ago. There was a single asiatic lily in a bouquet I didn’t notice. As I immediately started to wash the pollen off I noticed he was licking it off his chest.
I knew I had to go to an emergency vet right away.
Luckily for us he never got hit with too many symptoms but flushing their system out with the fluids definitely works. He was out in 48 hours and is doing just fine.
There is absolutely hope for Lilly. I know it’s terrible. The first night waiting, knowing nothing really gets to you. Blaming yourself, feeling so shit for letting it happen.
Stop googling prognostics, let somebody who just went through this with their kitty doing just fine provide you some relief for now and spark some hope and positivity.
You got this Lilly.
This happened to my boy when my daughter brought home a bouquet from a flower-arranging class. Thankfully we actually saw him biting the flower and he didn't ingest more than a tiny bit of it. Still, an emergency trip and overnight monitoring at the 24-hour vets is nerve-wracking.
I really hope your Lilly gets better. You being by her side will give her comfort, whatever happens.
Oh my gosh. Best vibes coming her way from my tuxedo girl to yours.
Dear Lily, please get well soon...
To Lily's Pet Parents, I really hope you have the strength to carry on & your Floofster has a speedy recovery too.
:8097:
SHE HAS TO LIVE.
I’m having a shit, shit week, so it’s only fair that this beautiful kitty make it to restore balance to the universe.
I've asked my Buddhist nun friends to do prayers for Lilly.
Wesley is sending positive healing thoughts!!
Catholic here, and praying with you as well. Bless you.
🙏🏽
Mashallah
OP hope you took her to the vet as soon as you noticed.
Good luck to you all.
Fight on Lilly!
And OP, please keep toxic plants away from furry friend.
It was a rough week already with my mom in the hospital.
The lilly was brought to our house by someone in a bouquet and my wife just set it down. She didn’t realize lilies were in the arrangement. She threw up that evening which we didn’t think of since she throws up now and then.
Our red flag was dinner and she didn’t come with our other two cats. We tried to feed but she didn’t want it. Then we saw there was a lily in the arrangement and realized how dangerous they are. I took her to the emergency vet right away and they started treating her.
I am so sorry that happened. I hope that since you got her there quickly, she will recover.
This exact thing almost happened to us when we got an arrangement delivered to us. I caught it and we gave it to the neighbors, but it’s easy to miss.
We are there for you and Lilly.
OP i am so sorry for this rough week! We are sending precious Lilly all the healing and strength she will need 🖤🤍 lots of health & strength to your Mom too
I’m really glad to see that you got her to the vet as soon as possible - that gives me hope.
Sending prayers (secular but heartfelt) that your baby pulls through!
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Good call there
Fight Lilly!
This is my son, who has crossed the rainbow bridge. He is looking out for your baby. I hope it all turns out well 🥺🙏🏼💜
Praying for Lilly🙏🏾🙏🏾
My five cats and I send all of our love and strength to Lilly. May she pull through and make a complete recovery! 🙏 Cats are unbelievably resilient. Five years ago, my 15 y.o. Homer went to the ER with a stomach ache, unable to hold down food. They gave him anti-nausea meds and sent him home. By the following day, he was in ICU with sepsis, clinging to life. We verbally agreed to say goodbye and they started getting ready to put him to sleep until he attempted to stand up. We told them to keep trying and 6 hours later he was stable. He spent 9 days hospitalized and went home with a feeding tube that he proudly removed by himself 5 weeks later (scaring us half to death) once he regained full strength. We had 2 more great years with him before losing him to kidney disease.
Noooooooooo!!😿😿😿Lilly, please, please, please, please PLEASE try to be strong and fight 😿🙏🩷🐾We are all sending you healing spirits, hugs, cuddles, and lots of love to help you fight and keep you sweet little heart safe and calm🙏🐾🩷🐾We love you Lilly!!🐾🩷🩷🙏🙏🩷🩷🐾
Hope you get well soon, Lilly!
Sending you and your gorgeous Lilly healing ❤️
my boy charlie is looking out for her on the other side of the rainbow bridge. 🩷 i believe in you!! you’ve got this girl, keep fighting <3
My oldest dog just did this too we think. I had a bouquet one each of Peruvian and Oriental lillies from Trader Joes that dried up and shed petals everywhere. I noticed there werent any on the floor so we think she ate them. We rushed her to the vet on a monday for anorexia (never seen this dog refuse food in her 12 years), heavy hard breathing, diarrhea, and potbelly either from increased thirst or liver swelling that started on the previous saturday night. We're rural so there is no vet ER. Liver enzymes were high, white blood cells & neutrophils were a little high. She got a prescription antioxidant for her liver (Denamarin), cyproheptadine for appetite stimulation, and enrofloxacin for possible infection. ALT came down rapidly, 494 to 223 in just a week but ALP went from 230 to 260 at the same time. Recheck blood in a month now and she's acting normal so she might be ok or have gallbladder damage to investigate if ALP is still high.
I saw that you said Kitty Lilly has already puked and seen a vet, its possibly a good thing. Hopefully some of the flowers came out in the puke. My dog continued feeling bad on the first day of treatment, moved around some more on day 2, and was pretty normal on day 3. It's been 15 days since treatment started and she's a normal dog again despite her blood saying theres still some healing to do. You should see improvement very soon <3
I made a new thread with a very important update
Wishing Lily the best🤍🤍
My heart is with lilly <3
Sending you prayers 🤍🤍🤍
:8097:
May you fight this with the strength of a lion, Lilly. Healing vibes by the bunches heading your way, OP.
Healing vibes for your sweet kitty.
Best wishes to Lilly, stay strong 💙💙
My bf and I have been fostering a litter of 5 since 8th March. They were only a few weeks old. 3 were adopted recently.
One of them had a head trauma 10 days ago. It was a difficult week following up with vet who said he won't make it but the little fellow showed signs of improvement in 4 days. We continued up until this morning he passed on while in our hands. He had hypothermia as he crawled out of his bed and probably knew he won't make it so isolated himself in a cold corner of the room. We had just found someone with experience last evening who was willing to give him full care today onwards. The timing is just sad. Such is fate :( poor fellow didn't make it. Now we're left with one kitten, the only female of the litter. She is adorable and the most vocal and loving of them all.
Oh, I am so sorry. I truly hope she pulls through. Lots of love from me and Penelope ❤️
Give her lots of water to flush her out if possible boil some water throw some chicken in it and give her the broth after it's done !
Hey lil LilLil...You hang in there, baby!
I understand your kidneys need to get to excreting the toxins from the plant you ate...if I may, I would like to send to you some long distance Reiki energy.
Peaceful at home. I had five weeks of loving and comforting her. She was walking around until the last 24 hours. 💔
Prayers for Lilly (and your mom) … please keep us posted.
Heal up fast Lilly! One of my worst nightmares. I actually show my boyfriend what flowers are poisonous to cats so he doesn’t bring me any.
Best of luck to you and sweet Lilly 💕💕
Praying for your Lilly 🙏
Please survive Lilly! You have people that love you and need you very badly.
I my cat appeared to eat something poisonous when he was pretty young and was knocking on deaths door. Vet wanted tons of money and I couldn't afford it. I got him fluids and I think left him overnight and took him the next day. He made a recovery. Anythings possible. Tell Lilly to hang in there!
I’m so sorry; prayer that she makes it through
* My Bellatrix did this as a tiny kitten. She was in ICU for five or six days, it was so hard. I hope your baby is okay. *
🙏 that your baby makes it through her perilous journey. I lost my baby Monday.
Wishing Lily good health and strength!
This is so upsetting to read. I really hope and believe she will make it🥹💖💖💖
wish lilly the best of luck !!!
