lol 1 are you fucking kidding, this is disgusting and 2 this is blogsnark, not AITA, why is this a post here
You are in the minority not minding dog shit in your yard, most people will. Start bringing bags with you and pick it up. And talk to your vet, a dog shouldn’t have constant diarrhea. Get this fixed before they figure out it’s you.
I hated having my own dog’s crap in my yard. I live in a cold climate and there is nothing grosser than discovering unthawed poopsicles in the spring.
Yes, it’s a big deal. Maybe with time he will get used to going in your yard and not go elsewhere. All our dogs eventually have eventually had their spot on the walk. We had a dog who was terrified in the city and I would take him to the parking garage. As soon as his knees went up to his ears, I slid a paper towel under him. Then I’d put that in a bag. There was no residue that way and they never knew. He never noticed. Maybe try to sliding something under him as he goes. Hopefully his gut will ease up with a regular routine and diet.
You really need to clean up after your own dog. I know what you mean about the 'soft serve', but I just grab all the clumps of grass + the liquidy stool and put it into a bag. It's really rude to have your dog shit on your neighbours lawn and not even attempt to clean it up.
this is gross
This might be more suited to the off-topic thread than its own post.
People are bothered by it because they also walk their dogs in the same place, children may play around there and no one wants their dog or their kid getting into that. I agree with the other person who said it may just be best to let your dog go in your own yard and then go for a walk.
Can you put down a piece of cardboard or a newspaper real fast when you see him getting ready? Then half-fold it and stick it in a bag to take home.
It is extremely extremely normal for people to not want dog shit on their lawns or sidewalks or anywhere. It’s ok not to have known, but now you definitely have to adapt.
They aren't mad at a dog being a dog. They are mad that you left something you fully acknowledge is disgusting on their property that they are trying to enjoy. You are the one who bought a dog, not them, and you are the one failing to deal with a dog being a dog. Yes it is really that big of a deal. Again: you think it is too disgusting for you to deal with, but you have no problem leaving it for other people to smell, step in, kids to roll on, etc.
Maybe walk him around your yard for a while so he can shit there, and then do the rest of the walk after he has shit in your yard.
yeah as someone with kids who parks next to the grass strip in my neighborhood and who's kids walk through without looking I'd be VIVID. Ensure your dog shits in your own yard or talk to a vet to figure out how to get it firm enough to be scoopable. This is real AIAH territory.
I grew up in the country too and have owned a dog before.
Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean that others don’t, and people have a right to not have land mines planted on their front yard. Besides the fact that dog shit (and shit in general) is obviously just nasty and unsightly, there are two major perspectives why people would be upset:
They have small kids and don’t want the kids touching the shit (or putting their hands in their mouths after doing so)
They have dogs of their own and don’t want their dogs eating/rolling in it. If I saw loose canine stool on my property I’d be concerned that the dog had something contagious and that my own dog and other pets could get sick from it.
I sympathize with not being able to pick up the soft serve shit, but if it is possible, let your dog exercise and relieve himself in your own yard. If walks are his primary form of enrichment, look up indoor mental stimulation activities you could do at home.
