Cat Scratch Fever sounds like a groovy band
If only that’s all it was.
Right. A few years ago, my bestfriend had a simple scratch from her cat (looking at you, William) and I kind of jokingly told her to get it checked out incase she had cat scratch fever.
Almost a week later, she called to tell me that she just left the doctor and did, in fact, have cat scratch fever. I can’t remember exactly what made her decide to go in, but I believe she got some weird red bumps/a rash near the little scratch.
Anyway, she’s fine now. William, her cat, is still a good boy.
I had to have a major surgery in like kindergarten-1st grade because I’m allergic to cats, and got cat scratch fever, and one of my limp nodes decided to implode itself into a massive tumor lol. Had to pack that deep wound in my armpit for weeks. It was incredibly painful and probably mentally scaring. Cat scratches/bites are for real dangerous.
As someone who had to deal with packing a huge ass surgical wound, twice a day, with hospital bleach soaked packing, for MONTHS, I can confirm that packing wounds is mentally scarring. For added razzle dazzle, mine was on my bikini line!
Had to pack a wound right on my waist for like three months, twice a day. It was from a probe used in spinal surgery and it just didn’t want to close. So awful
Your nodes are too limp, that's why.
Happy cake 🍰 day!! 🥳🥳
Catch scratch fever driving me crazy🎶
Close. It's a catchy song
Damn I had no idea haha gave it a listen, catchy indeed
I would be fucking furious if I had a roommate whose cat kept doing this.
That’s only transmittable through kittens, but the bite could easily get infected. Cats mouths are so dirty
I think I have cat ass fever atm
Toxoplasmosis is the real winner here.
OP, I hope you took your cat to your ex or to a cat hotel of sorts while you are away for travel. I wouldn’t trust cat D or your roommate/landlord on being able to keep an eye on both and separate them if they get into another standoff situation.
Have both cats been fixed? Intact Toms can be nightmares
Pretty clear the roommate's cat isn't - that stood out immediately. That's probably the source of 90% of this behavior. It makes me so fucking mad when people don't fix their cats.
Just curious - if you have a fixed female cat that's still a fucken dick, what do you do? My mum's cat hates everyone but her. Which is weird because she's my cats kitten, I literally brought her into the world and spent her first 3 months with her and she was a sweet cuddly baby but now she's a massive wiener to everyone.
My mom had a cat like this. Unfortunately she was just a massive asshole until age 14 when she became senile and forgot the taste of blood, and discovered she loved cheese and hugs. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. But yeah like they said in the Simpsons, "some elephants are just jerks."
Cats can get triggered by external factors and direct that to people like you. You could always have a look at whether she has a space that she can claim as her own and no one else's? Maybe there's cats outside of the house that she can smell and that puts her on edge. Maybe something just isn't right for her. She could just be a Weiner though but it's always worth putting the inspector hat on
You brought her into this world, and you can take her out..
And it sounds like he’s outdoor, too! That should be illegal.
YES! Exactly 👏👏👏
So.... You have an obviously uncastrated tomcat in your landlord's house... Who lives there with you.... And then you brought another male cat (also uncastrated, I assume due to the simillar issues you mention? ), the original tomcat is already territorial AF based on the spraying, then you first introduce the cats (wrong way to do it, you should have been introducing their scent to each other slowly. Through towels and fabric they used to lie on, physical meeting shouldn't happen for at least a week, two is better) and then seperated them after they already knew the other cat was there... Your cat spends all his time in your basement. Where your clothes are. Where you spend your time. Guess who comes out smelling like they belong to the "intruder cat's" colony?
This whole thing is due to irresponsible pet socialization on both sides. Cats are territorial. Tomcats more so than queens. Uncastrated tomcats? Can be downright vicious to other Toms. And you smell like a rival Tom cat. One that intruded into his space and is now occupying a room he was previously allowed in and is now not.
This should be top comment. Roommate does sound sucky and obviously it sucks that OP is dealing with these injuries. But anyone who understands even the basics of cat health + behavior could tell you you’re putting both those cats into an insanely stressful environment. This is super irresponsible cat ownership and it’s not just the roommate’s fault. Both cats should be fixed, one cat needs to move out and tbh it doesn’t seem like it should be the cat that was living there reasonably peacefully before (quick to turn and lunge and scratch describes literally every cat, so I’m not counting that as aggression)
I’m also stuck on how ridiculous it is to allow your intact cat to run around outdoors unsupervised? So irresponsible. Fix your cats!
Add in that the unfixed cat is allowed to go outside too. Just awful
This is also true
people just refuse to fix their animals and now they're getting pieced up by em
OP you and your roommate either need to de-ball your monsters or de-monster your home
if the balls come off and they still brawl someone gotta go because it's all fun and games until you get bit
a girl i used to know almost lost a finger from a cat bite, you could lose a leg REMOVE THE BALLS NOWWWW
I truly don't understand why people refuse to fix their male cats. All cats should be fixed male or female of course but males have a tendency to spray if they aren't, and with him spraying on fucking everything in the house (the dishes?!? Wtf??) I can't imagine the behavior completely stops if he got fixed. I can only imagine how gross the inside of that house is
sometimes i wonder if it's just a sexist thing or people humanizing(?) their animals too much
they assume their male animal will miss their balls but their female won't miss being fertile? they don't want to deal with a wailing female cat or a bleeding female dog on her cycle but are fine with their beefed up male cat (just their cheeks hehe) or dog peeinh everywhere and being aggy
also, vets don't prioritize neutering as much as spaying because leaving a male intact has less health risks than leaving a female intact
all in all, i think your critters should be fixed when it's their appropriate time
Yeaaah ngl.
Those cats need to be rehoused with owners who have more than 2 braincells to figure out why the fuck this is such a bad idea.
Yep. They are surprisedpikachu about a tomcat behaving like a tomcat towards a perceived threat to his territory. Instincts in uncastrated cats are strong AF. And OP is basically marinating in rival cat pheromones constantly, which are in overdrive in their cat, because of the smell of the other Tom... Poor Gatos.
Bump so OP internalizes the messaging that she’s insanely responsible and partially to blame for being a bad roommate and cat owner
I'd argue that they're likely just uninformed, not bad. They clearly care about their cat and wouldn't intentionally endanger them. OP should internalize the message that this is avoidable, and with the proper steps and research, she can have safe and happy pets in future living situations.
The roommate though? I'd argue that's bad ownership. Not neutering your cat + taking no action when he's physically injuring the people around you multiple times shows that they don't care.
OP’s cat is also likely not spayed, so they are definitely a contributor to this situation. Hence why they stated they had dealt with a similar situation with their own cat. The fact they’ve dealt with this before and find themselves in a similar situation only increases their accountability here for me, but c’est la vie, I just feel bad for both cats.
Just a heads up, spayed is for females and neutered is for males.
And OP is literally posting in legaladvice lmao how deluded
As someone who’s been bitten pretty severely by a variety of animals, I understand that the adrenaline and shock makes you want to place blame somewhere and you lose all trust, but everyone on Reddit fanning the flames is going to make OP feel justified in their blame. Over time that feeling goes away and you understand it’s animals being animals and it’s largely the humans fault (accident or ignorance). OP, just look after yourself and don’t go looking for ‘justice’ against a cat.
Thank you.
So glad I found a comment like this. To me it sounds like redirect aggression from the owner’s cat. I feel that because the cat, that had made established territory, is being put under threat by the cat locked in the basement because the cat cannot see and respond directly to the other feline. Try socialising rather than contacting animal control, that’s just harsh when really, it’s irresponsible pet ownership. This cat hasn’t meant to do this to you but because you smell of your own cat that is in this cats territory it’s redirecting the aggression to you. 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t want to sound mean but maybe move into a property that doesn’t have animals, if it is an option to you of course. Try a pheromone to chill both cats out and some time and patience put into socialising them properly.
As this link will explain -
‘Redirected aggression occurs when a cat is aroused by another animal, person or event, but is unable to direct aggression toward the stimulus. For example, your cat is sitting on a windowsill and sees another cat out on the property. Your cat becomes very agitated, begins to focus on the other cat and shows aggressive body postures, hisses, or growls. If a person or animal in the home were to walk into the room, they may be the recipients of an aggressive attack’
Edit - I am in no way wanting to cause upset with my response, it’s just my hearts honest opinion :)
Agree 1000%. It’s not the cats fault! OP has equal responsibility in this situation, and if they try to pursue legal action or whatever, they are going to become the badroommate.
Wow this is a great answer. To the top with you!
The question is why the f neither cat is neutered, so silly, so avoidable, so dumb.
Because they're irresponsible cat owners. If they had been responsible none of this would have ever happened.
Agree completely. Idk wtf op is expecting their roommate to do, give the cat a stern talking to? They need neutering, and just focus on the moving out part which sounds like it’s in action already. Why involve animal control which could devastatingly lead to a euthanasia when simply moving out solves the problem. It’s absolutely a territory thing and having their own cat in the basement is hardly a management plan. Yes it fucking sucks to get attacked by an animal, but wanting to legally go after the roommate? wtf. Create a system so that the roommate puts the cat in their bedroom when you need to cook etc. it’s not ideal but it’s what will work! It’s a traumatised cat and it’s ok to be upset but don’t take it out on the animals. If neutering hasn’t happened then that’s the most immediate action that can occur. Christ almighty, get a grip people. (I work with rescues and have successfully integrated ‘aggressive’ dogs and cats to live happily together)
Yeah they are both in the wrong. When I read she brought her cat into the house I said “what the fuck?”
That poor cat not only has to live confined to a basement but fear being attacked too.
I feel for OP. I do, but the cat is attacking just for the reasons you say. He smells the other cat on her and is attacking. I can’t believe neither of these people had their cats fixed. That house must reek of cat spray and piss.
Fucking fix your cats people.
Get animal control involved. Irs no different than sn aggressive fog, except it's in your house. And you're already bleeding.
"aggressive fog"
Like the one Jamie Lee Curtis dealt with?
Yeah. Fuck autocorrect. Am I right?
It's a drunk gnome in your phone, I swear
This image is gonna stick with me!
Auto correct be so oppressive at times
I quickly read aggressive Frog

Be sure to keep all the pictures and get your injuries checked out. Cat bites are very easy to get infections .
ER nurse here... Cat bites can get real bad real fast. Like 5-12hrs you can have a bad infection needing potential surgery (wash out of the infected area at the minimum in the worst cases)
Cat teeth are essentially angry needles filled with 'poison' aka nasty bacteria you wouldn't want to touch never mind have injected into your venous system or muscles
Make sure to keep an eye on the sites and "cleaning the surface" is wholly inadequate since the puncture wounds push the bacteria well past the skin into the tissue below.
My concern here is, he’s obviously not neutered, so she has not taken him in for a vet visit which she should’ve done before she even took them into her home so I’m concerned that this cat has none of his shots, no rabies vaccination obviously not neutered. And she is definitely putting her roommate at risk obviously, and herself.she shouldn’t have a cat if she cannot take care of it, and I think it’s obvious she can’t take care of it. You can take your cat to the vet and get a neutered then it’s a big no you cannot have a cat.
I’m not a cat owner, genuine question? Why is it obvious it’s not neutered? Are they more aggressive if not?
Male cats spray when they aren't neutered. They can keep the habit after being neutered, but that's typically only if it was allowed to go on for quite a while beforehand.
I know you said "typically", just wanted to share my atypical cat lol he's 17 years old, was neutered as a bebe and to this day you can see him back his lil floofy butt up to stuff and his tail twitch. Ol dude never even sprayed irl but he thinks he's doing a good job
The spraying is a sign the cats isnt neutered. It can make a cat more aggressive.
The spraying. Cats who are fixed won’t spray, typically. It’s a act that cats do when they’re sexually mature
My cat was spayed and started spraying, due to stress of moving in with dogs. It even lead to urinary stones, which further made her pee and spray everywhere. I ended up having her move in with my dad, as it wasn’t fair for her to live like that. Stressing to point of peeing everywhere and getting sick. I don’t think every cat neutered or spayed bypasses the spraying, same with dogs, as the surgery can sometimes cause their hormone levels to be messed up and they can spray/mark, even if they never did prior, for some time while they level back out or even forever. I know this, because my dog just went through it when neutered and I ended up reading a bunch on it. It’s actually scary, because some of the things can be forever lasting. :-/
My neighbors cat is fixed and he sprays the same bush in my front yard everyday 😭
Because he’s marking everywhere, that’s my guess?!?!
OP this is the best advice. Take it. Please.
100% a cat bite on my hand put me in the hospital and required antibiotics plus minor surgery to take care of. Not something to mess around with.
Yes!!! I had cat scratch fever growing up and had to get lymph nodes removed it was so bad. These pictures make me so anxious for OP.
Paramedic. Can confirm.
Animal bites are the worst
If you go to the doctor and tell them you were attacked by a pet, in some places it becomes their responsibility to report it. That way you could at least tell your roommate that it was out of your hands in order to avoid any extra blowback.
You can contact them. See if you can email the photos. Might want to be there bc of if the roommate though.
Yeah, aggressive fog can be a pain. Especially when they contain ghost mariners.
Nothing worse then aggressive fog
Step 1: Buy a Super-soaker 5000
Step 2: Wait for cat
Step 3: Spray the shit out of cat
I misread this as “it’s no different than an aggressive frog” and suddenly got scared that frogs were aggressive
Always remember not to turn on your high beams in an aggressive fog
I feel really bad you were injured. However, why did you bring a male cat into the home that already had an older male cat with an established territory? This was bound to happen.
Why tf not just get your pets spayed and introduce them properly like responsible ass pet owners?
This entire situation could have been avoided quite easily imo
yall need to get both cats fixed 😅 how irresponsible
you're both being irresponsible. The cats clearly cannot live together. Thr cat is territorial and aggressive. You should not have brought it in to the house. Your roommate sucks and you're instigating the situation
It's pretty clear that OP never wanted their cat to live with them because of the other cat, but had no choice because their ex didn't want them anymore. It's risk not seeing their cat ever again, or trying their best to keep the two cats apart. OP made it pretty clear their roommates cat was already like this before they brought theirs home, and they were already looked ng for a place because of it? Finding a place takes time unfortunately, they can't just pack up and leave-- have you seen the housing market? Not to mention pet friendly homes are like finding a needle in a haystack.
Their roommate is instigating in my opinion by constantly letting their cat continue this behaviour (which is the behaviour of a cat who isn't neutered, which I think is the most irresponsible thing here because neutering does mitigate aggressive behaviour like this!) A cat pissing all over the kitchen is a genuine health hazard, and the roommate doesn't even bother cleaning it up and forces OP to do it for a cat that's not even theirs.
Edit: for the record I also think OP is in the wrong for not having their own cat fixed but at least they're trying to keep the two apart until they can move out. If it was my cat pissing everywhere I would still clean it up and be apologetic about it because it's MY cat, which is why I think the roommate is a lot more of an AH.
cat needs to go - if that was a dog it'd be gone already .

They’re letting their cat pee on your food and your dishes. The cat was a stray before and obviously can’t be an indoor pet. The cat is attacking people unprovoked. And PEEING on your FOOD.
let your roommate know that if their cat isn’t vaccinated and you report the bites, they might have to test for rabies. do you know how they test for that? it sounds like your roommate shouldn’t have a cat.
These responses are ridiculous???? Call animal control NOW OP, tell your landlord and show these images and OMG CAN YOU PEOPLE STOP FLAGRANTLY SUGGESTING VIGILANTE ANIMAL ABUSE???? Wtaf 🙉
Corrective action of an aggressive animal is NOT animal abuse. IF the car was injured from someone defending themselves it is a natural consequence.
Reddit reminds me most pet owners absolutely suck
I wouldn’t do this until her own cat is safe somewhere. Especially since she’s out of town. Never know what an angry person who just loses their pet would be willing to do to take it out on you or your pet.
You have 2 territorial cats living in one shared space… what did y’all think was gonna happen. Separate before one of em gets lethally injured. YTA.
Pls get a rabies vaccine asap!
Cats remember unfortunately. It will always be aggressive to you because it (mistakenly) identified you as a threat. I don’t know what else to say besides try not to let it ruin your well deserved vacation, and stay encouraged. You’re going to be in your new place in a couple of weeks and all of this is going to finally be behind you.
What did you expect would happen when you brought your cat there? You literally knew this cat was territorial. Did you think the territorial cat would suddenly forget his instincts? You should have figured out a different plan for your cat. Now you forced a situation where both cats are highly stressed. You are both irresponsible pet owners.
This is awful and I am so sorry you're having to live like this. To the commenters talking about how the cat has to go, I will point out that D lived here prior to A living here, and the landlord/roommate didn't have to allow A to enter. Obviously everyone is stressed out, D is unhappy and it is making the roommate's life worse as well with the extra marking and problems. The roommate did what they could; separated the cats, and allowed the tenant to move out early with no penalty (rather than holding the tenant to the lease and insisting the tenant's cat, not part of the original agreement, has to go). When OP was attacked, roommate offered to help in any way possible, hung out with them to support them, and drove them to the airport. Roommate/landlord is doing the best they can. Tenant/OP is doing the best they can. Keeping everyone separated as much as possible helping OP move out as soon as possible is the best solution for all the beings involved.
This is a hard situation.
Here's what I'd recommend:
- Ask roommate to keep D upstairs until you move out. If that's not feasible, maybe at least secure the kitchen area with baby gates etc so that your food is protected from marking and you are protected while cooking.
- Move out as soon as you can find a new place for yourself and A, and ask roommate to let you off the hook (even if it's sooner than July)
D isn't adjusting well to A's presence. D is an old man who belongs to the landlord who was there before A. Your landlord/roommate didn't want anything bad to happen to A, so they allowed A to come and stay even though it's stressing their cat out. Let's not make anything bad happen to D either.
Most sensible response I’ve read. Cats are territorial. This is an older male cat that sounds like it isn’t neutered which is just asking for a disaster to happen by introducing another cat into the home.
It absolutely sucks what OP is going through but the sad reality is that she is a willing roommate in her landlords home where the dominate cat, cat D, has been living. If cat D were acting out to visitors, then absolutely the cat needs “to go.”
Agree with this and the other commenter that mentioned him getting spayed. I know you’re kind of traumatised right now and may hate the lil fucker but sounds like he’s an old cat who got stressed by a new cat on his territory - which will soon be resolved if you’re moving out. Seems sad to get animal control involved who will basically kill the cat who wasn’t showing such aggression before another cat moved onto his territory..
This is the most realistic comment here. Save for the baby gates, cats can easily jump those. They need the full floor to ceiling gates.
The landlord could do more though, such as covering Ops medical bills since it is her cats fault. The landlord also could have had the cat fixed but chose not too.
Sorry, I should have elaborated. You can use multiple layers of baby gates to cat-proof a doorway. Just one on top of the other. My mother had to do so for months when one of her cats started having health problems which triggered something like psychosis; the cat began attacking the other cat. Both spayed adult females who had lived together peacefully for 4+ years. She needed to separate the two for about a year using double stacked baby gates. Nowadays, with medication, they can tolerate each other again, but prior to that it was fights, marking, and attacking people. Everyone was happier when they were separated.
This is what I’ve gathered from the comments:
Apparently the cats are both neutered (I call bullshit but anyway).
This is HER HOUSE. She’s not just your roommate, but your landlord.
You moved your cat into her house with a cat you know is aggressive, without socialising them, and are barring this cat from a room it was previously allowed in which it would perceive as land theft, and you smell like this new cat and are defending this new cat.
WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU EXPECT? Now the only solutions are that she isolates her own cat in its own home or (as you seem to be advocating for in the comments) the cat is put down, or you (AND HERE IS THE OBVIOUS SOLUTION) temporarily board your cat or have a friend look after it until you move.
Add all the context next time. She’s not just your roommate, this is HER HOUSE.
Is D neutered/spayed? It really sounds like territorial behaviour, and D is incredibly stressed so he is acting out because there's a stranger in his/her home. D is attacking you because he/she realises that you are protecting that stranger. I agree with 1 of the comments saying to keep D in 1 of the rooms till you move out if neutering/spaying is not possible.
If D is already neutered/spayed, this could be a mental issue and should be brought to the vet.

OP - PLEASE PLEASE go to urgent care now. My mother was bit exactly like this 2 years ago and almost LOST HER FOOT due to infection. She’s a healthy woman and waited 24 hrs to see a doctor.
Cats mouths are incredibly dirty compared to dogs and they harbor bacteria. Please get antibiotics ASAP.
It took me way too long to find this answer!!! Iodine / peroxide immediately then straight to hospital once she lands. Too many wounds!
Mu family has an indoor neutered female cat that scratches and bites (whenever she is fed up of being held or playing with you she bites lightly to let you know, if you don’t stop immediately then she goes crazy). We just use peroxide, so far so good, but no one has ever been attacked to that degree OP is, that demands urgent care, specially considering the cat is outdoors!!!!
is her cat fixed? And why does it keep going outside? she is a horrible owner and neglecting this cat that clearly has a lot of problems but refusing to acknowledge or help him,
In the meantime, keep an air horn in your pocket. It may traumatize the fucker but he will learn to stay tf away from you.
If they are not fixed I would recommend doing that for both cats ASAP. Besides that Animal Control.
Both you and your landlord are stupid. Deal with the problem you created and lock your cat up till you move out.
I don’t understand why people are talking about animal control. You’re the tenant that brought the cat that’s causing all these attacks, knowing things could get bad. Either you leave with your cat or get give up the cat for adoption.
I can’t imagine trying to get the homeowners cat taken away because you brought in a cat after you signed the lease knowing there could potentially be a problem.
This
Please get these checked out. I had a cat bite my hand get infected. It was painful as heckkkkk
Go to the hospital. 🏥
You are going to have scars the rest of your life from that, fyi
Make your room mate pay for the medical or vet bills
This thread is just full of animal abuse Jesus
This is just wild.
The landlord should get their cat fixed. Not only is the Tom a danger to other people but this will stop the aggression and prolong the cat’s life. It’s not even a pure breed that can be bred for money so there’s not even that flimsy reason to keep the tomcat intact.
OP needs to lay out boundaries until they move out that the cat either gets fixed or is locked up in the landlord’s bedroom for certain hours so OP can access the common areas that’s included in the rent. Since OP was viciously attacked multiple times the landlord should cover the medical costs as well.
I’m shocked by how many people are talking about getting animal control. OP is too conflict avoidant to request the cat is put away in a bedroom or ask to go halfsies on their antibiotics but is comfortable calling Animal Control on a poorly socialized, intact street cat? The cat is likely to get put down for following its nature. From the cat’s POV OP smells like a foreign cat and you keep entering its territory and you’re disrespectful. The warnings were the pee everywhere - the cat is saying this space isn’t for you. You’re cleaning up the urine which the cat views as you marking the territory as yours and you’re showing you don’t fear it because you feel safe enough to eat in its place.
“Catch Scratch Fevaaaa”
Just get a hotel or something or rough it in a car a few days. Should’ve left sooner.
Is it a friggin mountain lion?
Parasites bro. cat poop claws on cuts means worms in your blood
I would move out. After I saw the doctor.
Defend yourself? Roomates cat did that to me twice. First time gave my roommate fair warning that if your animal draws blood on me again unprovoked I will defend myself. Cat did it again and I kicked it so hard it left a small dent in the wall which I covered. Cat never did it again.
Honestly, the situation isn't ideal for you or the cats. Knowing that you moved into the situation and introduced another cat, it's good to recognize it's no longer a good fit and move to a new place. Doubtful this will go away, and for those suggesting animal control, that kind of seems heartless given that the cat and its temperament were established before co-habitation.
Edit to say I'm sorry this happened right before you left for holiday, and I hope time away from the situation helps you. I would recommend having someone else check in on your cat, as well, so your roommate isn't holding all the stress while you're gone, if that's possible.
the fact that you and your landlord have been allowing D to piss in the kitchen repeatedly tells me all i need to know. you’re both terrible cat owners. both cats need to be neutered ASAP as that would probably solve the spraying issue. D should not be allowed outside EVER. you two have two intact MALE cats who are behaving like two intact male cats would & you’re wondering what you should do?
Imagine letting a cat beat you up and then writing 1200+ words about it on reddit.
Dude. 😂
why is this accepted from cats?? Dogs are PUT DOWN for biting people once
Because a cat can't tear your throat out.
Well. A cat attack can cause some blood. But a good amount of time won’t kill you. Dogs frequently kill people.
That cat should have been fixed, if it isn’t, and apologies if it was said that it was or not because I read the first two paragraphs and started typing.
The only time that my stray cat, that I had gotten fixed, has ever been agressive was when I was cleaning with Lysol wipes on all my surfaces. I usually use something else but got a deal at work for buy one get one so I got them. Aparently it’s toxic to cats and boy did he let me know. He didn’t attack me but he was hissing and growling at me after he went on the chair by the table and smelt it and chased me a bit.
Super loving and adorable baby, he’s never been like this before. I wiped down everything again with my normal cleaner and he was back to cuddling with me on the couch while I caught up on my shows.
Spraying usually happens because they’re not fixed. So much could have been avoided if the cat was just fixed in the first place.
Cat bites can fuck you up big time.
Go to the doctor because a disease from a cat can actually kill you. Happen to an old friend of mine. Ended up in ICU for more than a week. Tell roommate cat has to stay in her room, period or she can move out.
go to the hospital, this is a really bad cat injury.
Oof those bit marks
Holy shit! I have a cat who occasionally becomes a claw happy lil asshole but he has never come anywhere close to this level of damage. Your roommate needs to keep the cat in her room or somewhere it can't maul people, this is a health and safety risk. Plus the mental stress of knowing this demon might be around any corner?? Fuck that.
And definitely make sure you clean out your wounds well and use antibiotic ointment, cat bites and scratches get infected very easily.
Bite her tail the next time she does it.
Instead of calling the 12 yr old tabby D let’s calling him lucifur 😈.
If that cat actually bit you, you need to go to the ER. Cats mouths' are DISGUSTINGLY dirty and cat bites will usually get badly infected.
Dude that’s scary af
I’d be walking around with a fly swat or maybe something even harder. If it’s identified you as below it on its social scale, or even prey, you need to fight back.
Spray bottle with water. Spray him every time he comes near you. He’ll quickly learn to stay away.
Spray bottle or water blaster infinity quadruple thousand gt hell gun water soaker 230 it’ll stop em in its tracks
Definitely get it checked out and you’ll likely be put on antibiotics to prevent any infections which can be really nasty from cat bites and scratches. Ask your ex roommate if they’re willing to pay for your urgent care visit. If the roommate declines and they own the home you can get a lawyer and make a claim on their homeowners insurance and have them pay for it and then some extra for you.
Would have loved a TLDR for this but my advice is to 1 go get a tetanus shot. 2. Get on antibiotics. 3. There’s no way that cat is avidly seeking you out to attack so just avoid the damn cat and carry a spray bottle to shoot that fucker if it gets close.
Does your roommate own a puma jesus??!!
You could get really sick from that. My roommates cat put me in the hospital with sepsis from something smaller. People don’t realize, cats harbor a LOT of bacteria
Plain and simple. If I were you that would be one dead cat. Either by my own hands in self defense or legally through local humane society.
Sounds like transferred aggression. He wants to go after the cat outside, but he can't, so he goes after you.
Put a treat or catnip outside, open the door, let the little terror out and then close the door 🤷🏽♀️
Would’ve kicked tf out of that little shit
I say take the cat to an area it doesn’t know and just leave it there bye bye kitty
You can get blood poisoning from cat bites. They are really dangerous. I would get checked.
She needs to get that cat neutered. That is just ridiculous and cat parenting 101. That's why he is pissing and attacking. I have a stray boy that would occasionally lunge at us too. Would leave bruises he'd get you so bad. Once we neutered him, nothing. Not even once. Not to anyone. Not even to the dogs.
your roommate must treat her pet like shit for it to act like this
At that point I would report her to animal control as an irresponsible owner. If she's not doing any damage control to ensure cat stops attacking you, she doesn't deserve to be a cat owner or a cat mom.
You will need to see a doctor first so you don’t get sick from the injuries. You can also sue your roommate for the hospital/doctor bills and medication you needed for the injuries caused by her cat. She did nothing about the cat after the first time it attacked you. She is responsible for her cat and if it is attacking people it needs to be out of the house. If this was a dog it would have potentially been put down for attacking someone.
Just reading your post I’m gutted. I am so sorry this is happening to you. If this were a dog he’d be euthanized. This cat could kill you by sepsis and that’s no joke. File a police report and have her charged right away. Please try and find anywhere else to stay until you move to your more permanent location I beg you
Shit! Thays savage AF..Get a marker pen and draw around the swelling. Those look like bite wounds and require medical attention ASAP
I am SO sorry. I have three cats and have never had anything remotely close to that happen to me and one of my cats was returned to the humane society multiple times for biting before I adopted him. Please talk to your landlord. You don’t deserve to get attacked like that for just ✨existing ✨
Spray the cat down with a hose, he’ll stop that crap quick, probably won’t come near you ever again lol
Some of the cat people in this thread are fucking crazy spinning this and blaming you. Your post said that your roommates cat would attack randomly even before your own cat lived there!! Fuck that! Those wounds are awful I can’t believe you’re being blamed for it. Fuck that cat bro, and your roommate for not doing anything about it, is there anywhere you can stay until you’re in your new place? Pissing all over the place and mauling your legs is absolutely unacceptable. These same people would NOT tolerate that from a dog, and you should not have to tolerate it from a cat.
Plus your vacay is off to a horrible start now 😩I’d be so pissed OP, I am so sorry
Please don’t call animal control before you have a sit down conversation with your roommate. Your wounds and concerns are serious and should be taken as such, but I feel for D the cat in this situation too. If I were his owner in this situation, I would offer to pay for your medical care (especially as it keeps happening) and I’d keep D isolated until you move out. It’s only a couple weeks and I’d hate for D to end up at the pound or put down just because he needs to be a single indoor cat. I’d even try to take her to court to cover the costs if need be before calling Animal Control
Definitely go get checked out. Cat bites are almost always guaranteed to get infected. I was bitten on the knuckle of my right index finger (I'm a manager at a Humane Society) by a feral cat and I now need occupational therapy to gain full use of it back, and if that doesn't do the trick I have to see a hand surgeon. I literally cannot bend my finger. It suuuuuucks.
Also, as someone else mentioned, I'd consider reaching out to Animal Control.
Not advocating for animal abuse. I love animals. That said, cat does that to me repeatedly and I'm punting the little shit into the woods with a "good luck".
Did you try kicking the fucking thing?
I have only read halfway so far but two things I want to say here your roommate needs to take the cat to the vet get him all checked out, get all his shots updated including rabies. And he needs to be neutered him being neutered he will come down. He will become a calmer cat in time. He’s spraying because he is territorial like you mentioned, and now that there’s another cat in the house he’s gonna do it more he’s marking his territory.
You next time you go to the hospital where your doctors office get a tetanus shot!
when you know the cats gonna try to fuck you up spray the it a few times with a straight stream of water you’re probably good after that
Get a spray bottle full of water. As soon as the cat does anything stupid, shoot it with water. They learn quickly.
Dang cats are dumb
Toxoplasmosis anyone?
Around 15% to 40% of domestic cats have been exposed to toxoplasmosis and of that group <1% are actually transmissible. The odds of getting exposed via a cat scratch is very rare, if you took 1000 cats only 4 of them would be able to transmit toxo using the absolute highest estimates for infection and transmission rates.
If this happens again and you have a room you can lock it in, throw a thick blanket or big towel over the cat and then as quick as you can think to do it, scoop that little prick up and throw him him the room and close the door.
You could also do the above and take this advantage to pinch the skin at the back of his neck and pull up. The cat will sort of go limp. He’s fine. It looks bad but as long as the cat isn’t fat, then you can hold him with one hand. It just has to be a firm grip. It’s a natural instinct from when they were kittens and mom needed to move them.
Next is call animal control and show them these pictures. If they are worth anything it will be enough to have the cat confiscated. If the cat in question has been outside at all, please go to a doctor OP. Cat scratch fever is no joke.
as painful as cat wounds are (i know, ive been attacked by my own cat twice in the past year due to putting him in stressful situations), animal control is absolutely not the way to go. literally the most simple solution is for your roommate to get their cat fixed and once you move out with your cat i guarantee the issues would go away. i grew up with 6 cats, i have 2 of my own now, ive always been around cats and this whole situation is easily preventable by getting them fixed like all cats should be. maybe your roommate shouldnt have a new roommate after you move in. cats react to stressful situations and a 12 year old cat having a new person & a new cat in THEIR home, is definitely gonna cause some reactions
Just move don't sic some agency on your old roommate, sure their cat is an asshole but looking for legal action or trying to get animal control involved is some Karen ass bullshit.
So not down with this. See a DR and report the Cat to authorities for biting plus cat fixed? Cat have shots?
I actually knew a guy who died from “cat scratch fever” about 20 years ago. He was a musician in a local band.
get a pool noodle. not gunna hurt the cat, but it will keep it away from you.
Wear some jeans or spray bitter apple spray onto your legs.
My cat is the sweetest little thing, but gets SCARY if she feels threatened. We have a stray cat that comes to our back patio every once in awhile and riles my cats up. In the confusion they end up attacking each other. My male cat is twice the size of my tortie but she becomes insane. After one stray visit I came in the kitchen to find my male cat cowering under the kitchen table with a claw sticking out of his forehead. There was fur all over the kitchen and my tortie was pacing back and forth swishing her tail like she was looking for a reason to fuck his shit up again.
She’s insanely territorial! The last fight lasted all afternoon. Every time they saw each other they’d get worked up and fight. I ended up having to separate my cats. Thankfully they were okay after a day of being separated.
This cat is probably associating you with your cat and feels threatened every time he sees you. He definitely needs to be fixed, which would probably help his aggressive behavior.
Ask her to get Soft Paws put on her kitty’s nails so he can’t scratch you.
Sounds like u got a good bit of fish bait waiting to be diced up
Some people in this sub are being a bit harsh but the overall message is right.
Step 1: get both cats fixed. Not only will this cut down on spraying and aggressive behavior but it can cut down on chances of reproductive cancer and behavior that exposes them to things like FIV (kitty AIDS).
Step 2: since doing a proper slow introduction is now out of the question, you can do a space swapping exercise where D spends time in A's territory and A spends time in D's territory. This should be done via a carrier rather than a door and the cats should NOT interact with each other at all. This should help D chill out on attacking you as he gets to know the stranger in his home. You may never get past this step because you are a renter and may move soon but it should help both cats get used to the idea that "someone else is around but it's not a big deal"
And while you do steps 1 and 2: Don't tiptoe! Cats (and most animals) can sense when you're nervous and that makes them nervous. That nervous energy coming from you, on top of the testosterone, on top of the stress of having an 'intruder cat' with you smelling like the intruder just shakes the whole jar of bees and throws him over the edge into 'OMG I gotta defend myself and my person and all my stuff' mode.
You got this OP!
I also recommend installing a screen door at the top of the stairs so if you do end up staying longer, they can 'meet' through a barrier. If it's possible to have a door at the bottom of the stairs too, go for it.
I stopped reading at "spray on the kitchen counters and plates".
No.
Question? Why don’t you just kick the cat?
Dude, you need to deal with this, my husband’s friend almost died from getting attacked by her cat.
Sorry cat people, but if a cat did that repeatedly to me where I lived I'd get rid of it myself.
Do you live in the US? Every ER I’ve ever worked in we had to report ALL animals bites. 90% were cats and they can get horribly infected. Think about it, they use a litter box with feces and urine in it and then scratch you with the same nails. 🤢
Good lord. Get those checked out so you don’t get cat scratch fever
