Basically, asda have a 10% off discount scheme for workers. I was wondering if the discounts would be applicable for devices such as the nintendo switch or TVs etc. I wasn't sure what "asda" products actually meant.
The only things you can't use your discount on, as far as I know, are petrol, tobacco and pharmacy prescription items.
And stamps, baby formula.
I heard the baby formula was to do with the companies that make it not asda, cmiiw
It's to do with legally not being able to offer any discount on first stage formula, as it's the NHS' position that "breast is best" and discounting may incentivise parents to choose formula over breast milk. It's for this reason you also won't ever see it on rollback, linksave or the like.
You're right about the law but my local Asda has flouted it a lot. We don't mind because we use formula as a backup to breast (our baby feeds a LOT), but they had a box of newborn baby formula for £8 down from £17, because the box was damaged. Then it happened again a month later and except the box looked fine so I assumed it was a date thing. We weren't complaining
It's promotions of sales that's not allowed. They might get away with discounting a tub if it is dented as long as it remains sealed and a special SEL display is not made.
We've always been told to bin damaged formula, doesnt matter if its just a dint or a popped lid. In case of tampering/risk to baby, im positive those rules come from headoffice so if anyone checks your asda might get a bollocking.
Obviously we wouldn't have bought it if there was any risk but the inside was sealed foil bags so it was fine. Just slightly mashed cardboard packaging.
There's been a few times other age baby formula has been in that section as well so I assume someone in our Asda does not know the law.
Ah no no i wasnt being a dick lol, just saying they shouldnt be reducing formula in general.
We had our little man during covid (when it was like gold dust) and if id have seen reduced formula i can guarantee id have considered it if i hadnt knew the law/rules. We were lucky amazon was flogging it in bulk cheaper then seperate.
That makes sense, as didnt nestle try to give it out at a discount so they could mark it up massively once the parents couldnt produce breast milk anymore
I believe they did that in Africa.
Or gift cards
