i’m going away this weekend with some friends and there will be alcohol involved, which is great and all, but i would like to have a good time without feeling/worrying abt getting sick. i feel like every time i drink (even in small amounts) i feel sick?!?! any advice??
And drink quality alcohol, and stick to one type.
Also, eat before you start drinking.
You might actually have an alcohol intolerance. There's people that don't have enough of the enzyme that processes alcohol, so they end up feeling sick...then there's people who are actually allergic. Both can make you feel "sick", but the symptoms typically differ.
Are you going somewhere that THC is legal? About half my friends have switched to using that instead of drinking when we hang out, using various methods.
wow. i never thought of that. thank u!! THC is legal and will be present, so i might have to resort to that
If you've never used it, fair warning the route effects the dose and length of the high. It may be best to tinker with that in a safe environment first.
If you are not familiar with THC dosage and effects this may not be the place to find out. In my experience, with edibles, first timers tend to eat too much when the effect is not immediate, and regret it when the high hits an hour later. Be careful.
Do u get a red face when drinking or sometimes like a heat rash on your neck?
never the heat rash, but i do get red in the face
You could be allergic
I've always had a pretty low tolerance to alcohol 2 or 3 is good for me any more I start to feel unwell.
.super weird but now I know it's alot better and pretty easy to manage.
I've found by drinking less less I have a lower tolerance so I can have a few and relax with out feeling unwell.
Pacing your shots and eating lots before and during it. Don’t forget to drink water
Just smoke some weed instead. No need to drink if it isn't your jive.
I also recommend edibles. Find some infused gummies, cut them up and figure out your ideal dosage. If they're not infused the dosage is going to be completely unreliable.
Chase with water and have some coconut water or pedialyte for the morning
thank u!
Eat a meal before drinking.
Do not take shots.
Drink a clear light liquor, like vodka or gin. They are more pure(less toxins) and will give you less of a hangover.
Drink tons of water a day or two before you start drinking. Being hydrated before is a key people don't do. Also important to drink one or two glasses of water between drinks. Honestly, if you don't drink that often, one or two mixed drinks over a 4 hour period is usually enough to get a nice feeling without ruining your weekend.
thank u sm
Just don’t drink? Have fun with your friends and don’t drink. Dance and schmooze and enjoy, but don’t drink. I never liked the taste of alcohol and somewhere along the way decided I shouldn’t waste my money on a cultural norm just to please others. It saved me tons of money, and I still always have a blast. It’s about the people you’re with and the activities you’re doing. And if you get any pushback, I’ve always found that by pointing out my not drinking meant there was more for them to drink - usually stopped people pushing alcohol on me when I was younger.
If it's the taste that nauseates you, try drinks with lower alcohol content or stronger mixer flavors and you might find one you can stand.
In my experience it's easier to get drunk on an empty stomach too, so if you want the buzz without drinking as much maybe go in hungry.
Do not mix types of alcohol! And drink quality stuff. Doesn't have be expensive. Mi
Always hydrate after sipping alcohol
If it hasn't been said yet.... stay away from sugar! Seriously, stay away from sugar. It will amplify any next day symptoms.
Pick a different drink
By drinking enough to get drunk, but not so much that you get sick. Maybe take some pepto.
I'm also not a drinker anymore but when I used to I took milk thistle pills before drinking and before bed. They took away that nausea feeling that you can have the day after.
Take Advil right before you go to sleep, drink water, cut back on sugary drinks
drink so much water the whole day before. drink more than you think you should. it’s excessive, but i usually have a good meal like 2 hours before drinking, drink 4ish yeti fulls of water, a gatorade for electrolytes, and i make sure to eat something with carbs (sandwhich, bagel) to soak up the alcohol when i get home. i’ve been belligerently drunk before but followed these steps and am always fine in the morning. for some people, it’s more about hydration than eating & vise versa. so you kinda have to figure out what your body prefers. or, you could do what i do and make sure i am both fed and very hydrated to cover all of your bases. just hydrate a shit ton and you’ll be fine
thank u!! i will
First, before you start drinking eat greasy food. Buttered toast is good. There's some research it provides a small level of protection. Between each serving of alcohol drink a serving of water. You'll pee more, but hangovers are primarily caused by dehydration. (Also, many hard liquors are properly served on the rocks to dilute the flavors to allow you to enjoy them more). Avoid getting blackout drunk. Most people can process about a serving of alcohol per hour, so pace yourself. Don't drink so much your body is still processing when you wake up (don't exceed 8 servings). Before you go to bed, take a light dose of ibuprofen iirc, (aspirin is hard on the liver, which is already taxed by the alcohol) and drink another serving of water or sports drink or pedialyte. When you wake up drink more to rehydrate your body. Normal grogginess in the morning is also due to dehydration.
Also it's okay to say no. If you're a good friend, you can buy a round or two, but really stick with ginger ale/sodas, virgin drinks. Some bars will even give ginger ale to you for free (still bring cash so you can tip the bar keep) . Staying sober is just as cool these days, and if you're friends can't accept that, then maybe find new friends.
Hella water, hella food. Pace yourself. If you get so drunk you forget to eat and drink water you'll have a bad time.
make sure to have a small meal and use water as a chaser/in between drinks!
Don't do shots or mixed drinks if you are prone to getting sick. If you aren't opposed to beer, order light beer (PBR is my go-to). Drink a glass of water for every beer.
Eat before drinking. Drink slowly. Drink water. Keep snacking.
Based on what you said about yourself, you can’t. The only way to avoid getting sick is to not drink.
damn :/ some ppl are just like that. guess i’m one of them
That might be a good thing. There is no real advantage to drinking alcohol. If you’re with a group of people who insist that you drink, find new friends.
There are advantages to drinking alcohol though.
You don't have to if you don't want to, but don't spread misinformation to justify an opinion.
what are the advantages?
Liquid courage, social currency, refreshment.
Physician, heal thyself.
Ain't broken, don't fix it.
Alcohol is poison. Think about that.
Don't mix
take magic mushrooms
Historically proven to never make anyone sick to their stomach
If OP is worried about stomach sickness I’d go with LSD over mushrooms.
I get the impression that you might be young, and if so, here's a life lesson that I learned:
Alcohol is not necessary for a good time. If you don't feel good after drinking, you are not obligated to do it.
I am someone who learned that for myself to have a good time in life, it is best to avoid alcohol.
thank u for sharing. i do feel somewhat pressured to drink. i’ll try to remember this
Or try having fun without alcohol. I never understand why people like it so much. It doesn’t taste particularly good to me, and I don’t like the way it makes me feel. How is it fun to drink so much you feel sick the next day?
Before you start drinking drink a whole like 20oz of coconut water, then as your drinking, drink a whole water bottle every hour, then before you go to bed, drink another 20oz coconut water. No hangover, and you’ll be ready to go again the next day bright and early , trust me !
For every glass of alcohol, drink a glass of water as well.
Eat before, drink lots of water, nose beers
I'm intolerant and most drinks make me feel sick. I stick with sours shots. They're small and I don't tend to feel sick and I can get away with having a soft drink as long as I join in with them. Just take an antihistamine first and order soft drinks that could be alcohol. Generally no one will notice.
Stay away from Yeager bombs, cider, they make me feel sick so fast.
Booze is poison
So I don’t drink and I have a couple friends that don’t drink and we still have a lot of fun. It’s hard at first because there’s all the social pressure, but once your main core of friends knows you won’t drink, or not very much at all, the social part gets way easier. It’s kind of the first 3 times saying no that are hard, but you get used to it, and there’s almost always another person that’ll say “oh me neither” who was also hoping they wouldn’t be the only one not drinking. You don’t realize how many people don’t drink until you also don’t drink.
Avoid sugary drinks / mixes. Since I started drinking vodka soda no hangovers!
Just don't. Most likely, you are allergic to it. If you drink too much or the wrong types, you could end up hospital or 6ft under.
Drink slowly and include water between drinks.
