I just rewatched Caveman (1981) starring Ringo Starr, and I really enjoyed it. Good mix of comedy and action, silliness. And I am wondering what are your go-to caveman movies, probably from the 60s and 70s. I used to watch them when I was a kid but have forgotten them, so I'm due for a rewatch. I have already seen the ones from the 80s, 90s, 00s, onward. No Arnold Schwarzenegger please, already seen all his stuff. If you haven't seen Caveman 1981, then I highly suggest it.
Please suggest me some older caveman movies. They can be cheesy.
REQUESTINGEncino Man (1992)
Weezin the juuuuu uuuuuuice
No wheezing the juice!
It's a lot of fun. One of my favorite Pauly Shore movies
The caveman movie
Buuuuuuudy
It was really an interesting movie.
The cheese is old and moldy.
This is the way
Quest for Fire (1981)
100%. I saw it at the movies 2X when it came out and I own it on DVD.
I came to say this. Quest for Fire was a surprisingly good watch. I happened across it one day and was surprised at how quickly I was drawn into the story.
Best movie!
Anthony Burgess, who wrote A Clockwork Orange, was a linguist and created the language for this film.
Really? That was him?
So damn good.
Thanks for bringing this up. I was going to say 'The Groove Tube' but I was actually thinking of Quest for Fire. I wasn't supposed to watch either one as a kid, maybe that's why I confused them!
Looks quality!
Phenomenal movie
It really is the best caveman movie!
I just noticed Ron Peryman is in the top cast. I find that hilariously perfect!
And he’s sooo good/funny in it too! It blends comedy with grounded realism so well. I don’t want to give too much away. It just hits the mark in terms of making a movie about prehistoric man and the differences between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens without taking itself too seriously or silly. Such a blast. I’ve probably seen it once every 5-10 years since I was 13 and I just showed it to my wife and mother in law last year. They thoroughly enjoyed it as I hope you do too!
Great movie
This movie is incredible on mushrooms.
Clan of the Cave Bear (1986)
That’s also a great book!
It is a series of books with Clan of the cave bear being the first book in the series. The book was excellent. The movie didn’t do it justice
Thanks!
Decent premise terribly executed.
(Does hand clasping gesture.)
Not a movie but an SNL skit - Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer with Phil Hartman.
Love this!- "I'm just a caveman....your world frightens and confuses me..."
Now get me a Dewar’s and water pronto.
This is a classic!
Have you the SNL skit, British Cavemen? It is soooo good. It just makes fun of their accents while using complete gibberish
Iceman (1984)
My first thought! Is this where there's a caveman they defrost, and he comes back to life/they revive him(don't remember if it was intentional)? Seems to be the right year.
They keep him in the fake habitat
OK, yeah, that was a good suggestion!!!
Aka the original “Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer”
One Million Years B.C. with Raquel Welch.
Looks good! Thanks
Her costumes are eye-popping to say the least.
Miss Fuzzy Britches
I think that the one where the Raquel Welch poster is in The Shawshank Redemption?
The first 5 minutes of History of the World Part 1 😬
And the first 15 of 2001.
LOL yeah
I see Clan of the Cave Bear mentioned (and it's a great suggestion)! But the story is 1 million times better when read (and followed by the other few books). They flubbed the story in the movie and skipped out on so much. Darryl Hannah makes a great Ayla, though.
Read or find the audiobook for this series instead - you likely won't be sorry.
My daughter is named Ayla, from the book
Thanks for that!
No prob! I know you were looking for movies (and my suggestions were already commented), but I think it was worth mentioning!
This isn't a caveman movie, it's more "native tribe" - The Gods Must Be Crazy. It's hilarious.
Yes The second one is good too.
That's one of the ones I forgot from a long time ago.
Do you consider it caveman genre ? Lol
Of course not, but I see why you suggested it.
haha hell yeah i have that one on dvd
Yes it is not- set in modern times, modern humans ( They just happen to be a non white, non- industrialized tribe- BIG difference! I love the movie, btw. It's a critique of '1st world' man.
The Flintstones! 😁
The John Goodman one?
Well, I was really trying to give a funny answer. It's a silly cartoon inspired idea of prehistoric times. But if that's okay, then the one with John Goodman is the best Flintstone movie. I personally prefer the old cartoons! 😊
Oh! I didn't even realize you meant the series cuz this is a movie sub. I did enjoy the old series. Do you know, did that same studio ever release a full-length film?
"A Man Called Flinstone" 1966 is the one I remember. They made several made for tv movies, too.
There were two where we saw Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm as adults. The first one, "I Yabba Dabba Do" was about them getting married, and the second one, "Hollyrock-A-Bye-Baby" was about Pebbles giving birth. These were animated tv-films that came out in the late 80s, early 90s.
And of course, the masterpiece, "The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones." 😆
Came here to mention The Flintstones. You beat me to it. 🤣
One Million Years B.C. - 1966
The best one's I've watched to recommend are ;
- Quest for Fire
- The Clan of the Cave Bear
- The Croods ( Animation)
- Daryl Hannah is always good! Thanks!
Yeah, that's very correct. I really enjoyed that too.
Trog 1970
Eeagh 1962 (Richard Kiel who played Jaws in "Moonraker" is the lead)
Watch out for snakes!
Joan Crawford + caveman = some crazy shit
Came here to suggest Eegah! I should re watch it, haven’t watched an Arch Hall Jr. movie since I rewatched The Sadist a while ago.
TROG is a trip!!
quest for fire
It's a lot fun!
- Barbara Bach!!
Year One is dumb but funny
"She's your cousin". "Everyone is my cousin"
What have I continued to do???
And now I have to pee...
I enjoyed Alpha quite a bit. It’s about the first cave man to tame a wolf for both their survival.
10,000 BC
Seen it. Quality
Ah dang it, I posted before I saw your comment. I love this movie!!!
The Time Machine (kinda?)
Yeah the future cave monsters kinda count
Quest for fire. I love this movie.
The Three Ages (1923) with Buster Keaton
Creatures The World Forgot (1971)
Sexy cave-melodrama with a big snake, a man in a bear suit, scary cultists, and a bit of magic.
Sounds great!
The Man From Earth (2007)
The Land That Time Forgot (1975) is set in the 20th century but the protagonists travel to a land where cavemen and dinosaurs still roam.
Not a full movie but the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey is probably the best caveman scenes filmed.
You might like The Croods & sequel
Ice Man
I’ve never had a go-to cavemen movie…. Is this what my life has been missing?
Iceman 1984 version. So good.
1 Million Years B.C. Raquel Welch in a fur bikini.
It's not super old but I love 10,000 BC (2008). I may be one of the only people that love it lol, but it's awesome!
Sasquach. It's terrible!
I loved Caveman. I watched that movie so many times when I was a kid.
Yor: The Hunter From the Future.
Caveman after a nuclear war fights aliens
Iceman feom 1984. Loved it as a kid.
The Flintstones
Buster Keaton’s 3 Ages (1923) has a caveman segment and will be turning 100 soon
There’s also 3 Stooges- I’m a Monkey’s Uncle (1948) or Stone Age Romeos (1955)
I was going to say Three Ages - it’s only 1/3 caveman, but it’s so old it’s almost prehistoric. It also has the same plot as the Ringo Starr movie (plus or minus).
Cavegirl (1985) drive-in movie
Looks fun! Thanks!
Yes!!! I remember this one! A frequent flyer on Rhonda Shearer's "Up All Night" back in the late 80s lol. USA Network.
Quest for Fire Clan of the Cave Bear Iceman
I remember watching Iceman when I was little and it was pretty trippy I thought
Oh man...it's been forever since I've seen CAVEMAN. I remember Lana haha.
Quest for Fire and Clan of the Cave Bear both solid movies in my opinion.
The trailers look amazing
Eegah was mentioned already so I'll suggest Teenage Caveman (1958) by the late King of the B Movies Roger Corman. Both were riffed on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
EEGAH! On mst3k is classic.
The Good Dinosaur (Pixar) has cavemen. It’s ok by Pixar’s standards which means it’s better than most.
The clan of the cave bear
2000 Year old man by Mel Brooks
One Million Years BC (1966)

Clan of Cave Bear
Quest for Fire
The Clan of the Cave Bear
Iceman (I think it’s on Netflix, or something. I just watched it with my son.)
Quest For Fire
The Land that Time Forgot. In the days before there were VCRs, we had a movie projector. You could get abridged, 1-reel movies from the library. We owned two movies: Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, and The Land That Time Forgot. There are cavemen in it.
Quest for Fire!!!!!!
Quest for Fire
Clan of the Cave Bear
The Iceman (2017)
Alpha (2018)
10,000 BC (its a stargate world, not earth!)
Out of Darkness (2022)
I’d put Apocalypto on this list. Maybe Noah (2015). The New World (2005).
First part of 2001.
Also there’s a movie called “the mole people” (1956) which is sort of like a sci-fi/mystery/ adventure thing. Real B movie stuff.
Land of the Lost
Haven’t watched since I was a kid but I distinctly remember the egg and farting under the fur blanket.
Year one
Good movie!
I went into movie with no expectations and was totally floored by it. The T-Rex was a hoot and the cast was awesome. And Evan Kim from A Fistful of Yen was in it!
Eegah (1962) The Mystery Science Theater 3000 version is always a good time!
Was gonna mention this too. Awful reviews but hey, a young Richard Kiel!
Not exactly cavemen, and might be offensive to even suggest a tangental relation to…but…
The Gods Must Be Crazy (1980)
It's animated but try Fire and Ice from 1983. Saw it growing up, even tho it's not for kids probably. The movie is still engraved into my mind.
Thanks. I will check it out! Update: the artwork in the trailer looks great. I'm gonna watch it
Sasquatch sunset?
Year One.
I didn't catch the end though because the DVD scratched.
Does Harry and the Hendersons count?
I was opportune to see "Quest for Fire" in the cinema. It was a good movie.
The original version of One Million Years B.C. from 1940 is a blast - starring Victor Mature, Carole Landis and Lon Chaney Jr. - it’s old school effects (so the dinosaurs were lizards with fins stuck on) but totally enjoyable.
I will keep adding on to the pile and advise that Quest For Fire is still the gold standard for early hominid films! It’s very funny but takes the subject seriously. It’s an absolutely beautiful film to boot!
1966 1 million Years BC (Raquel Welch in a fur bikini is the reason it hit!).
1 Million Years BC
Raquel Welch!
Caveman was great--Check out One Million Years BC(1940) or I WAS a Teenage Caveman(1958), they're pretty corny
Not a movie, but Netflix’s documentary Secrets of the Neanderthals
A great caveman movie (not remotely cheese, actually good) is Alpha.
One million years B.C
2001:A Space Odyssey
One Million Years BC (1966)
Eegah!
Zug zug.
Iceman HELLO!!
The one with Timothy Hutton
History of the World pt1
Year 1 is from 09 but pretty funny
Clan of the Cave Bear is not a comedy but it is a good movie.
One Million Years, BC stars Raquel Welch in a fur bikini!
B.C. Rock, adult animated comedy. Rated R I think.
Apocalypto is a good stone age movie and the recent iceman was pretty damn enjoyable to watch.
Quest for Fire
One million years BC
When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth
One Million Years BC
Hokey AF, but - you know - Raquel.
Clan of the cave bear
Encino Man
Barbarella!!!
The Geico commercials 🤣
Iceman (1984) with John Lone and Timothy Hutton
Dinosaurus (1960) features one rejuvenated caveman.
Year one
10,000 Years BC with Raquel Welch
Curse of Fire.
Year One with Jack Black and Michael Cena. It is 2009 but still.....
The Land that Time Forgot (1974)
I recently rewatched Caveman as well after telling my wife about me and my older brothers watching it when I was younger. Man, the roofie/attempted sleep rape scene did not age well, totally forgot about that.
The Quest For Fire is really the only serious one
The People That Time Forgot 1977 ‧ Sci-fi/Adventure B movie loosely based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' hollow earth/Pelucidar series.
It's a sequel to 1974's The Land That Time Forgot , also based on an Edgar Rice Burroughs book.
Not caveman exactly, moe feral child, I guess..Walk like a Man, with Howie Mandel
Altered States
Trog (1970)
Quest For Fire is the best one ever! white cave people learned how to make fire, how to fuck facing your partner, and LOVE (in the form of attachment through remembered smell of Rae Dawn Chong)
Fire
Clan of the Cave Bear
Maybe it is “question for fire” No realistic based on anthropology. But the story hangs together well and demonstrates community.
There's a cave man porn movie from Europe I just watched which wasn't awful and also has features full penetration.
Year One
Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels (1977-1980) was one of my absolute favorite Hanna Barbera cartoons!
One Million B.C. (1940)
Rewatched this a couple of years ago and was pleasantly surprised by how engaging it was.
Enemy Mine. You asked.
Quest For Fire, is a must see.
Yeah, a lot of people said that, so I will!
RRRrrrr!!! (2004). It’s a French comedy.
cool! never heard of it
Quest For Fire and Clan of the Cave Bear
I detected that you might be trying to identify a film/show, which doesn't fit this sub.
If this is correct please post on r/tipofmytongue / r/whatisthatmovie / r/whatmoviewasthat.
If this is wrong please ignore this comment :)
