Cat really is just a package of early 2010s minecraft for me. Every time I listen to it it just fills me... honestly yeah, as over used as the term "nostalgia" is that's exactly it.
I feel like it depends on when people joined the game. The C418 discs are more nostalgic to older players, but most newer players I've talked to like the new discs.
I recently got back into Minecraft after a 2-3 year break and when I found and played my first ever Pigstep disk, I went through the 5 stages of what the hell is this? before circling back to loving it lol
Honestly same, no other minecraft disc has burned itself into my brain quite like 13, I have a distinct memory of getting 13 as my first disc in like 2010 and it genuinely terrifying little me.
I know. My first disc that I lisend to was chirp. And from then on it was my favorite disc. I can't understand how pepole can like the new discs. They are horrible compared to the og ones made by C418
Cat on the X-Box 360, because at the end it would play the song Dog (which is a banger) but Dog can’t be found anywhere in the game now, but is in C418’s Alpha album.
I personally like Ward. Thought interestingly, I never cared much about it until it was the first disc I got in one world and I got stuck in a loop of parkouring on chests and dirt and stuff in my "storage room" (it was a bunch of chests stacked on top of each other inside a custom hill with a smaller custom hill I didn't like the shape of inside that covered a naturally generated hill I didn't like the shape of but that made me chose to build there) while listening to Ward over and over again.
Anything from c418 even the scary ones. It gives me nostalgia from a simpler time. Me and my friends used to vibe to it and try to scare each other with the broken disk lol
I think the new music discs are better but have zero cohesion whatsoever, completely missing the style C418 created where they did sound quite different but had a relaxing similar feel to them (except 13 and 11 of course). They are so much louder (which was completely avoidable in game) so they don’t fit well after one of C418s and generally completely take away the simplicity.
Pigstep has so much more going on and while I do like it it really gave a taste of what was coming and C418s style would not be replicated, Otherside is structured pretty similarly even if the instruments and tone are completely different, Relic feels like something taken out of Celeste (which is strange because it’s made by Aaron Cherof not Lena Raine, I really don’t think an 8 bit style works well on its own), 5 does try and sound like 11/13 but feels more Minecraft than 11 (using more in game sounds like 13) as opposed to real life (which is honestly good in my opinion), Creator is so different even from the new ones I think it’s totally out of place and belongs in some medieval game talking to some merchant and Precipice… I don’t even know where to begin with that one the only thing in my head I could compare it to was Wii sports or some really old racing game soundtracks.
Personally I think if Minecraft keeps on going in this direction (although more so for the soundtrack than the music discs which I think has the same issue) it’s going to have a more forgettable music track (I find this to always be the case in games that don’t have a cohesive style) which is a bad thing, even if a lot of the tracks themselves are better.
ok I know it just got added so the nostalgia addicted 1.8 players are not gonna like it but creator and the newer music discs in general (especially ones from lena raine) is better every single other discs.
Stal, when i was little I used to play MC with my sister and when I entered the nether we used to play it cuz we thought the nether music was scary XD Noe I find the nether music extremely dramatic😂
Disc number 5. Not a song, but a recording of what happened before us in the Minecraft history. The cd can only be found in ancient cities and you need to find the fragments to have the full disc
I never found OG discs to be nostalgic, mostly because I didn't really care about them as a child and always preferred the background music. Honestly I definitely prefer the new Lena Raine bangers like Pigstep and especially Otherside that actually have more of a distinct personality to them and both bring something new to Minecraft, instead of reiterating on the vibes of the background music. Cat is a banger though.
I love most of the discs, and the new music keeps being phenomenal. Wait will remain my favorite though, makes me happy in a very special unexplainable way
Ward!
It gets overlooked a lot because of the spooky beginning. But if you dont judge the song by its first few seconds, you get to listen to a masterpiece. It's so many things at once. Calming, dancy, mysterious.
as of the latest stable release, "mall" is my favourite
as of the latest snapshot, "precipice" is my favourite
btw electronic disco music is my favourite genre
