Hi! I’m seeking to hire an administrative assistant in Mexico City. What would you say is a good monthly salary in Mexico City?
Oh and for the love of god, five days a week. Mexican employers love to only pay full time salary if they work a minimum of 48 hours a week. It’s an abusive practice.
Hoy despertaste basado.
many work 50+ here in the states
Yeah but they’re either getting paid overtime or are salaried, and theoretically a salaried position has higher pay and better benefits. In Mexico they demand the commitment for the lower hourly pay.
And it’s ilegal over there as well…
They can work lawfully 48 hr a week. Checked. /s 😆
Administrative assistant??
That’s a job that does not require specialized knowledge. A good but unreal salary would be > 30K MXN. Honestly I think a real salary would be between 10K and 15K net salary plus law benefits like social health insurance with IMSS and 15 days-Christmas bonus, 12 days off per year after 1 year worked.
Also you would need Spanish as primary language, English would be a nice-to-have unless the position be specific.
If you aren’t Mexican, a company wouldn’t extend a work visa for a non-specialized job like you’re pretending.
Rent of room in a shared home cost about 6-7K, or maybe less in a far area (far from centric/Roma etc).
But if you have the enough luck you would get a well paid job and also get a work visa if you aren’t Mexican.
40k
At least 20k mxn per month its fine
For an administrative assistance, a salary around 30-35K MXN monthly would be great.
A lot of wishful thinking and day dreaming in the comments….
E we de qué vergas hablas?
Jajajaja pinche comentario pendejo 🤣
Otro muerto de hambre…
Don’t forget the vacations bonus is at least 25% of the daily salary. By law employees have 12 paid vacations days the first year, this would mean that you would pay 15 days when the employee takes their vacation time, they are free to take them whenever they want after the first year. Each year the employee gets 2 extra vacation days and if you fire them or they resign you have to pay the equivalent of the vacation days and the end of the year bonus (aguinaldo).
If you fire someone in Mexico you have to pay by law 3 month of salary + 12 days per labored year (or the equivalent) + vacations + vacation bonus + aguinaldo
What does vacation bonus mean? This is confusing to me. Is that separate from aguinaldo?
Yes. They have paid days off paid at that rate. At the moment the law starts them with 12 and it goes up after the first year. The aguinaldo is like a 13th month salary, paid in December
50k mxn
A month?
Per day...

They are offering MX$35,000 per month with private health insurance. Is that good?
Hire me. 😬

Habla en español por favor.

1000-1500 a month no tax withholding will get you a good list of candidates.
Depending on responsibilities, 20-30k mxn + all prestaciones de ley.. meaning you should read the ley federal del trabajo and thoroughly understand it.
Obligatory rest days (there are quite a few) pay 2x daily salary if worked.
Holidays 3x if worked.
If you let them go, the severance (liquidación) is considerable and goes up for each month they work for you. Set aside the proportional amount in a savings account to be used for their severance when you part ways.
Aguinaldo (December bonus) is 0.5 months salary, paid within the first 3 weeks of December. Good bosses should pay 1 month salary. This is of course in addition to their normal paycheck.
Mandatory paid vacation.
You buy them healthcare in IMSS which is paid yearly and costs are proportional to their salary. It’s important to not simply sign them up based on the minimum wage, although the healthcare benefits are the same, because it is tied to infonavit which is like a gov’t saving account that can be used to buy a house.
Don’t be a colonizer.. consider if you can really afford the above (and anything I might have forgotten) and only then try to hire. Speak to a bilingual accountant.
