So we've reached the animal vigilante stage of 2024.
‘It’s so scary’: Cat shot with crossbow in Hamilton’s North End
Local News - PaywallNoooooooooooooo
i mean, turkeys come and go. usually as spring comes around its around a bit less anyways. but i hope little bro is staying safe
She's a girl and she's safe:)
Tis turkey season out in the country.
She is safe. I just saw her today….. 🥰
Was that sighting before or after Thanksgiving?
Oh well after. Usually in the fall I’m seeing it weekly
If by vigilante stage, you mean finding this jerkoff before the cops do...
Indeed. What in your fucking head tells you to shoot a cat with a crossbow. Poor kitty 🥺
That size bolt is usually shot out of "one handed crossbows" which are prohibited weapons.
Hopefully that cats assailant can be found and prosecuted. Possessing a prohibited weapon is no joke
It's probably from one of those 'tactical' magazine-fed crossbows that a few gun shops have started to bring in. Don't need a license to buy one.
You don't need a license for any bow/crossbow. It's just as likely it was ordered online from a trashy back of the old black belt magazine shite.
Mag-fed?? Fuck sakes, like, why? That seems so excessive to me.
It's actually available to purchase online, there is a few smaller that skirt the law. Regardless, this person need help, before more animals or people are hurt!
animal cruelty is no joke.. this is how serial killers practice before humans 😑
any arrow under 20 inches is illegal.
No they're not. I have a crossbow and it shoots 16.5" arrows.
Can buy em from cabelas.ca

This is why I'd only ever have indoor cats. Poor Fern didn't deserve that :(
Side note, and I know I'm just some guy but please keep cats inside if you can, even when there isn't a psycho out there with a crossbow. I just learned there's a bylaw where you can't have one outside unsupervised. They're also more than just adorable, they kill a lot of other wildlife like birds. There was a cute mother & baby squirrel nesting in my shed and an outdoor cat got in. My visit that morning was like a murder scene.
This is so important. Keep your cats inside, that's it.
no. Animal abuse.
This!!
Obviously the monster who did this is just that - an absolute monster.
Now, I'm probably going to get down voted to hell for this, but how about we stop letting our cats outside? As if coyotes or cars weren't enough of a deterrent, now you gotta be mindful of someone evil shooting your furry friend with a crossbow.
Yea this is a duel issue, outdoor cars are quite literally invasive species that damage the local eco system
You aren't the only one that thinks this, there are bilaws specifically written about community cats and cat ownership. Outdoor domestic cats are a recogniozed threat to global diversity. Cats have contributed to the extinction of 63 species of birds, mamals and reptiles in the wild. I am a cat owner and I love my cats but I also know the damage they can cause let alone the harm they can find roaming the neighbourhoods.
thankkkkk you. of course this is a terrible thing but people that just leave their cat outside to roam the neighborhood and shit and peoples backyards aren't really pet owners to me. "but everybody in the neighborhood loves Mr mittens" No Jessica they don't enjoy your cat tearing up their gardens and shitting in their yards.
now do raccoons and squirrels and dogs shitting on my lawn. Just say you hate cats.
I absolutely love cats. had em all my life, and they have always been indoor cats. I love cats I just don't like some of their owners.
Bad take. Squirrels and raccoons are wild animals, and therefore gonna shit outside. Dogs and cats are not supposed to be, and it's incredibly irresponsible and careless to let your cat be an outdoor cat.
Thankyou Karen , as you might notice it's not just cats
You’re exactly right. I understand cats may sneak out or be lost, but I highly question anyone that lets their cat to wander. My aunt’s cat passed away years ago getting into a random garage and eating chemicals, my mother in law’s cat got injured from a fight, and I know someone who they hadn’t seen their cat in 5 days and was like “well long as it’s eating”. Drives me insane!!
It’s even harder having my own cat. I genuinely can’t fall asleep without even knowing where she is in my apartment let alone outside. I don’t get peoples decision :(
NO, BUT, LIKE, ACTUALLY.
I don't get people who just let their cat out. I saw a cat fucking about on a slope next to a major highway the other day, and all I could think about was how I could never let my dog wander around the city unsupervised. I also saw a cat that had been hit by a car, different stretch of highway. It's been there fur a bit. Might have been a stray, but damn.
Not only that, but your cat shits in my gardens and antagonizes my dog at the back door. If I let him into MY backyard and he attacks YOUR cat, that can't possibly be my problem.
Pretty sure letting your cat free-roam is illegal, too, but what do I know...
I could never let my dog wander around the city unsupervised
how many kids get mauled by house cats?
I mean a large dog sized cat would definitely give anyone pause.
How many animals get killed by them? And how many risks are there to the cats?
Living in Toronto, I have never let my cat outside. All kinds of bad can happen. Cars. Other animals. People. It wouldn't be fun to see more dead birds, and there are twisted, dead-inside lizard people who would happily poison or shoot kitties. Also, never having to worry if my cat gets sprayed by a skunk is a definite bonus.
And yet the squirrel.....I think we should focus more on the asshat who lives amoung us. We can't keep the squirrels inside, I've seen that , it's chaos.
Whoever did it is a psychopath.
Having said that, don't let your home cat roam the streets. There's literally dozens of dangers out to get them, and I personally know multiple families who lost their cats, and never came back home
Jesus fuck what kind of psychopath.
It's the sign of a disturbed, sick individual.
Sounds like a serial killer in the making ....
Psychopaths often kill pets as kids, before moving on to humans…
What size of humans do you think they might start with? Just asking for a friend.
Somebody must know something. Hopefully the piece of absolute dogshit that did this is found, and his face plastered everywhere for everyone to see.
Someone does that to my pet and im probably spending a bit of time in jail
What the fuck is wrong with people.
Ok, someone must know someone who has one of these weapons. Please speak up.
The Dawnguard have it out for the Khajiit in these parts. They're taking arrows to the knee.
In all seriousness, this is awful
This person is likely gonna escalate to a dog next, then move on to people. Only psychos kill family pets and innocent animals for shits n giggles.
This is why you keep your cats inside!
So sick, so sorry to whoever lost their cat. ETA: glad kitty is okay after reading the article, still so gross that someone would do this. Kind of shocks by the pictures of the squirrel and the x-rays.
There's lots of reasons to keep your cats inside. A lunatic with a crossbow shouldn't be one of those reasons.
Because of crossbows?
Because cats are easy targets for people who like to hurt animals. I'd say about 20 years ago now in the north end some kids were caught dunking a black cat in a bucket of bleach. Thankfully the cat was okayish. Lost an eye, ended up in a loving. People just like to torture cats. It's sick.
Hope they catch the idiot who did this. Also as a cat owner myself, cats should not be let outside to roam. Asking for an accident or worse, like this.
I was just coming here to say that.
Only time either of mine have been outside since we adopted them was when one of them ninja'd his way out the back door. Took me 8 days to find him and get him back in the house. He's not shown any desire to go outside again ever since.
Yep, my little ninja slipped out one chilly, rainy night in March. He made it less than 10 feet before hunkering down in a pile of wet leaves and accepting his fate lol. He's never tried to go outside off-harness again (he is now leash trained for hiking!)
I found my boy in one of those canvas sheds that go up on aluminum pipes that you can get from Canadian Tire in my neighbour's backyard. Not really surprised I found him there... he and his mother used to go under the fence, mooch off their dog's food and cuddle with their Saint Bernards :P
Fuck this piece of shit. I'd bash this guy's skull in
I'd bet good money it was a juvenile
That's awful
Poor kitty
If I read that correctly, a squirrel was shot in the same yard as the cat? I hope the police investigate the neighbours. I only quickly glanced through the article but this person also has a dog. I'd be very worried about their safety.
All I can say is wtf? This asshole needs to be caught. I'm not going to comment on how society should treat him.
I used to see this cat on the way to/from work almost weekly, she is SOO nice!! I would stop and pet her every time. Made my days better.
I hope she heals, what a shithole to live in.
Don’t shoot cats. Also - don’t let them roam free in the city.
Does anyone know if Kristi Noem was recently visiting Hamilton?
Jokes aside, this is troubling behaviour. This is sometimes the sign of worse things to come from the heartless animal who did this.
They started with a squirrel and then got the cat(the cat survived for now, not sure if the squirrel's fate). I hope they find this asshole soon.
I saw a pic of the squirrel and sadly it looked very dead to me :(
Figured as much. Sad that people can be so cruel. They start with animals and work their way up to humans.
Please don't kill me....
Just avoid wearing cat ears and tail the area and you’ll be fine lol
An opposum was found this week with the same orange dart lodged in its back as well!!
Whoever did this is one of your neighbors who can see into your yard. Do you have any shady looking teenage people around you?..
Seems as though they are learning how to hunt...
It’s terrible for sure. I have been wondering though when the homeless will need to start hunting squirrels and such.
So many people stuck without resources could it be someone just hungry vs intending to simply do harm?
I will be watching my dogs in the yard either way.
I’m pretty sure they can just steal something or visit a food bank instead of hunting and gutting a small mammal lol. Long way off.
This seems more like little punk shit kid than hungry homeless.
Shooting crossbows in the city is wrong. However, I have no sympathy people who let their pets roam free.
I have sympathy for the pets but not the people. That poor baby deserves a better home assuming it wasn’t just an accident / it ran away :(
So sad and unnecessary. Starts with animals and then this idiot will shoot a human soon enough.
Tired of this. Let’s gentrify this city already and get the rift raft out.
How do you know that someone who was “riff raff” (whatever the fuck that means) did this?
Ok Karen
Why are you so obsessed with gentrification of the city?
Because it brings value and makes for a more livable city?
Why the hell do we want Hamilton to keep looking the way downtown does lol.
Well, only downtown looks like downtown. And gentrification won't get rid of those pesky poor people you hate so much, it'll just create more of them.
Why do so many people in this city want us to have a skid row 😭 I mean it's shitty and horrible but just "putting them elsewhere" does nothing. Ideally you don't clean your house by shoving your mess in the closet over and over again.
Keep your cats indoors
Either we have a serial killer in training or people can’t afford chicken in the grocery and practicing their shot 🤣
Cat? Or crack head?

i live in the area and this makes me sick. a confirmed squirrel kill as well. Suspiciously, I also haven't seen our friendly neighbourhood turkey for a while either.
