OK, y'all with your "I see your....." Who are these guys?
New kids on the block, and people say we kid all around. But were too busy dancin' to play instruments in town.
Drunkees?
So close!
And yet not entirely inaccurate
The only drinker that I've heard stories about were Davy. The rest were not imbibers of that. Pot yes. Drunks...no.
Nope. Not entirely
Michael Nesmith's mother invented liquid paper
Mike Nesmith invented the video album, had the first license for public television videos tapes and produced movies. Innovation runs in the family.
He was a genius and a gentleman
He was my fave, and had only himself to blame for that wool cap he was stuck in. He wore it to his audition and they wanted him to keep it.
He has what is probably the best album titled with "From the Radio Engine to the Photon Wing".
I don’t wanna be no REPO MAN
Who here has both a vhs and dvd of Elephant Parts? /raises hand
I know. What a crazy life he must have had.
This is still one of my favorite random bits of knowledge.
In San Antonio, TX!
Apparently was also one of the big contributors to breakup because he wanted to go in a different direction, musically.
Mike, not his mom.
Hey hey they’re the Monkees!
People say they monkey around
But they're too busy singing....
To put anybody down
But they're too busy singin'
To put anybody down
They’re just trying to be friendly
Come and watch them sing and play
Were the young generation
And we’ve got something to say!
Here we come.
Walking down the street
But they’re too busy singin’
I loved their show when I was a kid. Got Monkees albums for Christmas a couple times in the 60s.
I loved that show too. I still watch it when my dvr picks it up.
I grew up in the 70s and caught some of their reruns. I was always confused on if they were a real group or a parody
Ditto!
Davey Jones had a place near me(Central Pennsylvania) that he semi-sort of lived in until he passed away.
He actually did a show at our local fair as community service for a DUI.
Just before he died he recorded a a song and video with my cousin.
I was unaware he had a DUI! Who says Reddit isn't educational?
Yeah, the town he owned the house in is actually a dry township…there are no bars. So, he had to go into the next town over to drink in an establishment. I talked to him a couple times at one of the watering holes. Nice enough guy if you didn’t talk about show business…I had seen him get kind of stand off-ish when people went on and on about it….couldn’t blame him, I guess.
Davy was a teenage girl heart throb back in the day.
Oh yes, he was! He also did a guest appearance on The Brady Bunch!
Fun fact: Davy appeared on the same episode of the Ed Sullivan Show as the Beatles' first appearance there . He was the star of a musical stage production of Oliver Twist and the cast did a song from the show.
Also, Davy Jones is the reason we call David Bowie David Bowie (Bowie's real last name was also Jones)
I didn't know about the first fun fact. I did, however know about the second.
Additional fun fact Mickey was a child actor and starred in the tv series Circus Boy.
Peter, Mickey, Davy and Mike!
Even the correct order!
Mickey Dolenz had a place up in Laurel Canyon where lots of cool musicians hung out — one could argue that both CSN and the Eagles came out of those sessions
Nice. I didn't know that.
I met Michael nesmith twice. Absolute angel. I met micky dolenz twice. He was better the second time lol. Met Peter tork once. He was too busy fighting with micky to engage 😄 loved every second.
I would have loved to see the fight! You are very lucky.
The PreFab Four! I know a studio musician from LA in the 60s that was part of the Monkees studio band. After much struggling the 4 were finally allowed to play on their own records.
Mike and Peter were musicians. Peter was upset when he couldn’t play on the first albums
I have a relative that was part of the Wrecking Crew. A well established group of studio musicians that played the music on tons of major artists records in the 60s and 70s. Monkees..Beach Boys and lots of others.
Hey hey we’re the monkees 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯
Yep! They did in fact, Monkey around.
The Oneders
God damn! Nice work.
Jimmi Hendrix’s front men?
Lololol! Exactly. For 7 shows!
They were a real band composed of real musicians.
100% agree. Especially Peter.
I loved finding out that Nesmith wrote "A Different Drum". Excellent song that works if singing it to a woman or to a guy like when Ronstadt did it.
Some of the stuff they wrote is phenomenal
Davie Jones is the reason David Bowie changed his name.
I’m a believer
Hey hey we’re the Monkees!
There will be monkeying around
I dated a niece of Peter Tork when I was in high school.
Very cool.
My first crushes, never missed a show
Happy cake day.
Davey was mine too.
Went to see one of their last shows. It was only Mickey, and Mike. Mike died a few days after. Wish I could put some kind of happy spin on this, but I … can’t. Sorry to be a downer.
Nope. Not a downer. We all know there's only one left standing.
I was born in ‘79 and watched the Monkees on reruns daily in the 80s. My parents bought me all their albums. I had no idea it was 20 years old when I loved them. Totally thought it was the latest thing.
Hey Hey there The Monkees
Good band that got screwed over by the machine.
Valleri! I love my Valleri! I know they were called the pre-fab four, but they had some pretty good songs, even if they didn't play all the instruments.
They had some of the best song writers around. Carole King was one I think.
Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Neil Diamond (he wrote I'm A Believer and A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You)
From the after school airings mid 70s.
Edit: I saw the reunion concert mid 80s. No Mike Nesmith.
Here we come...
Walking down the street
Davy is the guy who Axl Rose stole his dance moves from.
Yes. Yes he did.
My sister and I used to fight over which of us was going to marry Davy Jones. One day, Mom had enough. “Knock it off! Neither of you are marry Davy Jones!”
When he died a few years back, I texted her and said, “one of us should be a rich widow right now!” 😂
Hey hey it’s the monkees. People say they monkey around
Hey, hey, they're the Monkees!
Some say that they monkey around.
Off the top of my head… Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, and Davey Jones.
Hey hey we’re the monkees. Peeps say we monkey around!
Now you’re just monkeying around.
From the people who gave you Head.
Everyone loved Davy but I had a crush on Michael Nesmith 😆
HEY! HEY! They're The MONKEES!
We're too busy singing.....
Thorkelson
Isn’t the guy on the lower left the guy who took Marcia to a school dance?
Three guys I did not sleep with.
My first band obsession. Hunted down all of their albums on vinyl when I was 12-13ish. Watched the show so much that it was eventually banned from the tv after 4pm.
Also ended up moving into a place right down the street (not on purpose weirdos) from Mike Nesmith (RIP).
Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, Davey Jones and Mike Nesmith. Supposedly, Mike Nesmith's mother invented the whiteout that they used to use when typing manually.
Yes, she invented Liquid Paper.
All I know is they have a train to catch.
I dk cuz.., I’m too busy singin’……
Hey hey we're the monkeys
Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, Mike Nesmith and Davey Jones, clockwise from top left.
Monkees
The Monkees
Hey, hey they're The Monkees.
Hey, hey, we’re the Monkees😁
Davy Jones - one of my first celebrity crushes!😁
They're the Mooonk- they're the Beetles, obviously, who else could they be? What other 60's British music band could they be? You'd be a Monkee to think they're someone else
Hey hey they’re the Monkees and people say they monkey around. But they’re too busy singin to put anybody down….
Hey, hey we’re the Monkees. We’re not monkeying around. We’re too busing playing to out anybody down.
"hey hey we're the Monkees!"
"Hey Hey We're the Monkees! People say we monkey around!"
Hey, hey - they're the Monkees!
People say they monkey around...
Hey Hey
Hey, Hey! They're the Monkees!
The Monkees! I loved their show when I was a kid. Looked forward to it every week. Still enjoy watching the intro on YouTube every once in awhile, just for nostalgia's sake. Still enjoy listening to their hits, which stood the test of time and were some of the most popular songs, back in the day. "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer" are classics.
Hey hey we're the Monkees.
Hey hey we’re The Monkees!
People say we Monkee around…
Monkees! Davy, Mickey, Peter & ? Dang I’m forgetting the one with the hat🤔
IT'S MIKE! HOW DARE YOU!!!!Although to be fair it's not his real hat, so there's that.
Monkees
Hey hey, they're the Monkees!
Cheer up sleep Jean was my favorite!
The Monkees of course 😁
Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, Davey Jones and Michael Nesmith.
Used to rush home from school to catch The Monkees series, had a ton of their songs on 45’s
Hey hey we're the Monkees!
Take the last train the Clarksville
I knew the monkees' music b4 i knew who the beatles were... 🤣
I dunno but they look like they don't monkey around. Maybe because they're too busy singing.
Hey, hey, they're the Monkees.
The woman who invented white out’s kid.
Exactly. Liquid Paper!
Hey Hey! They’re the Monkees!
The orangutans? Or was it the chimpanzees? Hey, hey, hey, we're the bonobos. No, that's not it.
The bridge crew of the starship enterprise. /s
man, those guys have the funniest looks
They get the funniest looks too!
I saw them in '86. Fun concert.
Hey-hey, it's the Monkees...!
The Chimpanzees
OK. I accept that answer. On a technicality. It wouldn't fly on Jeopardy though.
I watched these guys on TV after school at my grandma's house every Wednesday. Also Get Smart. I liked that one.
Everyday, after school.
Seriously?
You don't recognize Pink Floyd when you see them?
This was after founding member Gary Garcia left to form Led Zeppelin.
I have a CD of Monkees music. It never gets old.
Hey, hey we're The Monkees!
hey hey we're the people and monkeys say we people around
I love Head, their 1968 film. Co-written and produced by Jack Nicholson, of all people.
I first saw it as part of a "psychedelic all-nighter" at the much-missed Scala Cinema in London. You could bring a sleeping bag, your own er, smoking materials, and they had a resident friendly cat!
Here's one of my favourite songs from the film. It's got a lot of good ones, though...
Too easy.
This is a joke BTW… the bowl cut baddies
Hey hey we’re the Monkeys
One of my favourite shows❤
I loved this show
Up front on the left is Davey, next to him is Mike, above Mike is Mickey and next to him is Peter
"I've once played cards with the african natives,"
" Oh, Zulus?"
" No, I usually won"
Love them. Saw them in concert a couple of times. (I love in The Brady Bunch movie when Davy comes out on stage and the teachers are excited and the students have no idea who he is. LOL.)
One of them starred in a kid's show called "Circus Boy." I have vague memories of watching it.
Saw them in concert when I was 12. Jimi Hendrix was the opening act.
Bill Maher and the Mahers
They were a huge influence on The Beatles
That’s not even Mikey Nesmith’s REAL hat
Peter and Michael were musicians. Not sure what or who the others are
Singers. The other two sing. Oh, and one played the tambourine.
Hey the Monkees or as we called them the yay yays
The Gorillaz.
They were a major influence on the Beatles
More of the Monkees was my very first album. I know every single word.
The Monkees and the original Scooby Doo were pretty great. Also, the Sesame Street with bell bottoms and afros was pretty good. Richie Rich comic books, taking a bath in a tub full of suds from the washing machine run-off. Big tubs of vanilla ice cream, and drinking hot jello from the microwave.. is what I remember most. also, playing Uno. I miss my dads parents.
Hey hey, they’re the Foo Fighters
My first ever concert! One of Davy's last too, sadly.
But you got to see him. I saw them in 1986!
Monkees. I know nothing but their self-titled song... And that dude's head/face top right. Wow.
I used to watch the Monkees all the time as a kid in the 80s.
The Doobie brothers, right guys?
I’m in my 40’s and can name all of these Monkee mama Janna’s
People say we monkey around, but..........
Fuk, I really am Old 😭
“Head” is peak cinema.
- ok maybe not “peak” but a awesome and underrated film. soundtrack is a banger too.
That’s not even Michael Nesmith's real hat.
The Monkees was my first live concert when I was 12 (way back in 1965!). I absolutely loved them, especially Davy !
I don’t remember, but they’re too busy singing to put anybody down!🎶
Hey, Hey They’re the Monkees
Hey hey we’re the monkees and people say we monkey around, but we’re too busy singing, to put anybody down.
I saw these guys on the last train to Clarksville. I actually saw them in 1987 after their resurgence from MTV broadcasting the show that launched a reunion tour.
I heard that's not even his own hat
Some would say they like to Monkey around.
I'd love to answer but I'm trying to catch the Last Train to Clarksville.
The Monkees... with my first crush, Davey Jones.
Four actors who answered a casting call.
Sad to say Mickey D - last Monkee standing. 😢
Last Train to I'm FN oldville!
They are the Monkees, and I am only fourteen.
My 1st concert. Had some guy name Jimi Hendrix opening for them We booed him We were there to see The Monkees Don’t believe me? Look it up Hendrix opened for The Monkees
