For me, it's always Freudian Sleep--I just find Martin's musical number unpleasant (sorry).
Not sure if anyone has done this already - what episode(s) do you skip on a rewatch of Frasier?
I can totally see where Roz comes from in that episode, especially since I dislike Julia, but they did really make it seem like Roz was in love with Frasier.
You have to look at it this way. This was a season after they had slept together, (The guilt trippers S09E23/A New position for Roz S10E24) so there was definitely a different dynamic between the two.
It’s likely that she thought she was loosing him and that he wouldn’t be willing to put everything about their relationship to the wayside for Julia. And that when she saw that he was willing she did a drastic change hence going to the job out of frustration which is why she ultimately returned.
And they never show Frasier jealous of Roz. It might be fine if there was a balance but Roz wasn’t like that.
That whole storyline was so out of character for her. Feels like this was an end-of-season pitch from execs that the writers were forced to shoehorn in.
“This show isn’t misogynistic enough. This is a 90s sitcom, act like it!”
I don’t like this one either, mainly because the seriousness is taken right out when you watch the next episode. I realize it was a season-ending “cliffhanger” at the time, but watching them back-to-back just makes the ultimatum even more ridiculous. She goes from “I’m never coming back” to being back literally the next day.
I agree. I can see her wanting to protect her friend, but the sheer rage of Roz's spiel makes me uncomfortable and makes Roz look like a psycho.
Agreed, it felt like a different show the first time I watched it.So much fake drama and cringe with the ultimatum.
to be fair the woman was being a rude controlling bitch .Frasier seemed to be attracted to that type .
Oh yeah, definitely, it's just out of character for Roz to fall to pieces when she hates someone rather than tossing barbs and holding her own. Also the vague little vibe that she was jealous... Ugh.
Except she wasn’t. They've made her a bitch again so Frasier wants to break up with her.
You, on the other hand, were content to let the woman I love die before your eyes, THAT'S RIGHT, I SAID I LOVE HER!!
I don't skip episodes.
Same. Theres ones that yeah I cringe through hard but the show must go on 😔✊
I do too, out myself through torture for the sake of not being a QUITTER 😡
My husband doesn't either. I sometimes leave the room for some though. I don't like the one with Clive.
I'm not saying there aren't any episodes that are sub-par for the show, I just don't dislike any of them enough to skip.
I get it! He agrees with you, so you're definitely not alone.
Me too. Loyalty is everything.
I skip the episode where frasier baby sits the model’s daughter.
Oh this is the one for me too. First of all, I hate this woman for leaving her daughter with a strange man that she just met. What a bad mother! Then the entire plot of the girl manipulating Frasier and him of course humiliating himself at the end. Then of course the woman has no sympathy for Frasier being fooled (when again, she actually kind of is a bad parent to be honest). I hate it all!
I would skip this one if it weren't for drunk Daphne with Pitbull. I mean, Bulldog. "Hey, you in the Firebird! Yes, you. Stop that honking!!!"
Me to my bf any time a 'thank you' is warranted: "Thank you, Pitbull. I had a lovely time!"
"OH, SHUT YER BLOODY CAKEHOLE!"
Oh I hate that one too. “Teenagers amirite?” Ughh 🙄
NO WAY
I hate that scene with the nursery and niles with the baby. I think it's the same episode. It's an even worse scene than Martin's dance
Same
Just watched this ep. I thought the sound on the Niles scene was weird and wonky but figured since it was a nightmare it was purposely so.
Then Martin’s dance number comes up and makes me rethink it because you can barely hear his singing at all.
Any of the ones with felicity huffman
She looks and acts so unpleasant in them
Same here. Always a skip.
Nanny G
Ohhhh my gosh, yeah! My secondhand embarrassment gets mega triggered at the end where Frasier is in the baby costume.
Yep. I get 2nd hand embarrassment so bad. I just can't do it.
I mean to be fair, can you imagine playing the same character for 20 years.
Agree! I find her so annoying and Frasier on stage in a diaper makes me want to crawl into a hole with second hand embarrassment.
Oh yeah, forgot about that, thankfully. God awful.
lol i like how horny she is
It’s always enemy at the gate for me.
I love this episode! It's such a perfect indictment of several of Frasier's character flaws and Niles is an excellent foil in that episode. I also love the way it intersects with Roz's B-plot at the end ("At least I got out of there without paying the $4!").
That part and Frasier's endorsement of the alien abduction candidate are two of the funniest scenes in the show to me.
That is a VERY funny scene. My boyfriend and I joke about Frasier, like "Oh which episode are you watching?" "The one where there's a misunderstanding!"
He's so stubborn in that episode!! Just pay the $2!!
NOWHERE in 2024 can you park for $2 now lol
Especially in Seattle lol
the most relatable episode
Thank you for saying this. I have never related so much with Frasier than when he's infuriated by bad customer service.
I've done quite a bit of skipping over this one as well.
Agree. So cringe and uncomfortable!!
That was such a infuriating episode, just a setup to the joke at the end which was fantastic.
This always feels like an episode of Seinfeld to me.
Like the Seinfeld parking garage episode
Maybe that's why I like it
I skipped the episode where Martin and Frasier tries to get the same girl. It felt cringy to me.
The police officer? Yeah, a little tough to watch. Still, I like to see Frasier get humbled every now and then.
Truuuuu
The one with his Greek family we never hear about again
that was a really funny episode, bazooki dancing lol
The one where they dress up as their heroes. I can't watch the Niles/Martin thing again.
I like the episode as a whole but I definitely hate that part.
Yeah, i like the episode as well so i only skip that very part
Definitely tough to watch! And Niles is my favorite so seeing him be aggressive in that way is a challenge.
It’s so wildly out of character for both of them. Niles wouldn’t take something like that very far and Martin has a thicker skin than that. I don’t like it either.
Niles is my favorite too.
I get that. It’s so hard to watch, but they do so well, the writing is so great, this is something that’s always bubbling under the surface. While I love Martin, I think it’s total fair for Niles to feel insecure from his dad
Yeah I can’t do that one either. It doesn’t even fit. Niles isn’t cruel like that.
This is the one!
that is a tough one to watch.
They are really awful! Especially Simon
He’s literally the WORST, I hate alllll Simon episodes. He’s so dumb😭
Oh god the one where she’s narrating it and she’s shown so servile and helpless? It is disgusting.
The friend! Hate that guy with his hat and bbqs
Ah yes, the much ballyhooed Bob.
Although this is a classic tbf
The show where Woody comes to town.
I skip it every time.
That's one of my favorite episodes
yeah it's just kind of a genial, low-stakes episode
I used to skip it because I had never seen Cheers so I didn't "get" it.
Unpopular opinion: Cheers kinda sucks.
I definitely prefer Frasier.
There’s nothing to get from cheers in it it’s just dumb
Yes same here. It honestly just makes me feel bad for Woody and I really enjoyed him on Cheers.
The one I do not like to rewatch is the one in which Martin goes out with Roz’s mother, played by the very classy Eva Marie Saint. Marty is uncharacteristically rude to Roz’s mother, which seems so out of keeping with his character. Hard to watch.
The three episodes about Niles's heart surgery. It's just too serious and the thought kinda scares me. Every time those episodes come around I usually skip to when things return to normal.
I agree but the part where Daphne pours her heart out about her worries over Niles is Jane Leeves best acting in the entire series.
I liked how it showed how each one dealt with his surgery at the hospital differently.
My most-skipped episodes have Ann in them. Her whiney voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me, and she's very unpleasant when she talks about suing everyone.
i agree i hated ann she was obnoxious, mostly her personality though not her voice. like take a hint and fuck off he doesn't like you.
The Focus Group. I feel like they pushed it too hard and I hate how Frasier ends it with “Was that so hard”.
Episodes with poppy, episode with the school bully, dr mary, the focus group. Some of those I’d be willing to revisit if someone recommends otherwise! (Not poppy though!)
I always skip the Focus Group, too. Waayyy too cringey.
I also always skip Dr Mary…especially Dr Mary at the xmas parade
I find Poppy hilarious! I can see how she'd just be annoying to some though!
poppy is hilarious, "sHe WaS dEaF" LOL.
None. I like them all. There's always something interesting, a perspective, wondering what they were going for in that Frasier world. Like Ennemy at the Gate, the conversation Niles and Frasier have is like a therapy, and there's a touching moment between Martin and Daphne while she's moving out.
"Beware of the Greeks". What were they thinking?
I know! It's a weird episode that doesn't really fit in.
The never heard from and never heard from again brother of Martin, italian american actress playing Frasier's Greek aunt, the Nikos storyline was weak — it’s all around a weak episode. Apparently the powers that were also decided, that it was a one-off.
say what you will about the rest of the episode but you have to admit, it has a great joke line. "you know, i've always wanted to do this, make a trip around the greek islands."
It always assumed it was a back door pilot.
Zora, Walt, Nikos & their wacky greek restaurant?
The Cheers character guest episodes usually get a skip from me. Cheers was a little before my time, and I guess I’m missing some necessary context to really enjoy those.
That's how I felt initially too, but you really don't need much context other than that they were Frasier's buddies in Boston and they all hung out at/worked in a bar.
Kissing Cousins. It’s irrational but there’s something I can’t stand about Zooey Deschanel’s quirky-cutesiness.
You're not alone there. And it's weird for me to watch her in that episode when I've seen all of New Girl and she's not leaning so hard into the quirky-cute thing.
I totally agree! I was going to say this episode. It is like one of the worst episodes.
The Donnie episodes. I can't stand them--I don't even know why, they just bother me. I also can't stand the ones where anyone from Cheers appears (Sam, Diane, Woody). Also the one with the focus group where he burns down the news stand.
the Focus Group is one the better episodes from the early seasons. i was and still am surprised to see how many dislike it here
donnie is hilarious. too bad he got shafted.
Pretty much any episode where Frasier deals with "regular" people (The parking garage, the focus group, Cranes go Caribbean, etc.) He's great in his own world of money and culture, but he's an absolute dick to working people.
From what I’ve heard, that’s just Kelsey irl😂😅🫠
I skip the Felicity Huffman , Mercedes ruehl , Frasier in a diaper makes me 🫣
the one with Roz's cousin.
Some Assembly Required (s10e19). His incessant badgering of the family in the home he helped build drives me crazy. I ALWAYS skip it when it comes on.
Any Lorna/lana?? Episodes
It was so weird to me that they randomly changed her name!
Put your brother on the phone..
PUT YOUR BROTHER ON THE PHONE!
I can't skip, but I hate watch several.
Lol what are some of them?
E.g., Sea Bee Jeebies, Freudian Sleep. But you know, I unironically love Aunt Zora.
The Impossible Dream episode. I love Gil but it just felt too experimental in a cringe way, like baby's first attempt at David Lynch or something.
Lol! I guess that one's not one of my favorites either. Def not top ten.
I can watch it but I don’t get why wanting to bang your dead mom is somehow preferable to live man. Like it leans so far into that oedipus complex thing that it’s hitting absurd.
The one with Woody.
But it has the karaoke thing! That is one of the funniest jokes in the show.
Freudian Sleep and Detour from season 11
Anything with Poppy.
Radio Wars. There are some good one-off lines, but they’re not worth watching the rest of the episode.
lmao radio wars was great.
It’s quite a list actually. Too many to write here… I sorta skip most of the episodes in seasons 1-3 a lot of times anyway (I have chronic insomnia from chronic pain caused by chronic migraines and often use Frasier to help me go to sleep…)
Quality of the show jumped IMO from season 4 onwards….
I have no real explanation for it but I don’t enjoy the episodes in which someone pisses off Martin (room full of heroes, early season bickering episodes, etc).
I generally skip the episodes with Mary. Woody, Sam, Diane, Norm… any tie ins to cheers feel gratuitous.
Freudian sleep I just can’t do.
Frasier is my bedtime show too!
Almost every Freddie episode unless it has Lilith. If it is just Freddie I just couldn’t stand that kids acting. I’m so sorry lol
I cannot ever skip the "Freddie is goth now" episode, it's too funny to me.
Same. Especially because that episode has high Martin
This is mine too.
For me, it's not so much the actor himself as it is yet another example that adult-focused shows are almost never improved by the presence of a kid, but instead often made worse, and Frasier is certainly no exception to this. I'm not sure there's any other kid actor who could've made the Freddie episodes work any better.
Which is why I overlook the fact that Frasier 100% SHOULD be the one to have custody of Freddie given what Lilith did to both of them during the Cheers run. Frasier with Freddie as part of the regular cast would be an entirely different show, and likely not nearly as good of one given the things that'd have to change.
I've not watched Cheers, what did she do to Freddie?
She had an affair with another man and abandoned Frasier and Freddie to go live with him, only to return to him later (though we find out at the start of Frasier that this didn't stick for long - "Six months ago, I was living in Boston. My wife had left me, which was very painful. Then she came back to me, which was excruciating.").
Thank you!
The Focus Group one and the Dr. Phil one
I only skip the Greek restaurant one but I near skip Dr. Phil every time. I don’t know, either he's a bad actor or I just don’t like him!
Motor skills. Frasier and Niles come off way too arrogant to the point you want to punch them.
Pretty much all of the episodes with Kate Costas. I just cannot stand her.
I thought I was the only one. I skip season 3 entirely for this reason!
the racist one where the black lady takes over frasier’s show. i don’t remember her name but it wasn’t funny and it was giving macro-aggressions. very cringy
Definitely a product of its time. A handful of gay jokes, racism jokes, that just aren't funny at all throughout the show.
I can’t stand any episodes with Daphne’s mom 🤢 she terrible!!! This is the bedtime show too and I always skip any episodes that involve Daphne and Niles’ wedding, even when they eloped- that’s a nightmare ugh.
I don’t skip any but it’s hard not to skip the last few of the final season.
I always skip the one where he meets poppy idk the poppy ones just aren’t that funny to me lol
The Ski Lodge, Frasier Gotta Have It, and that horrendous Nanny G episode
Oh and that one where Frasier and Niles go out with the kitchen ladies
I skip the ones with Dr Mary. I hate having to psychoanalyze the racism debate. Maybe the show handled it well, maybe it didn’t. Who knows if there were any writers of color on these episodes- I doubt it. Also, it is too true to life, the frustration of someone hurting you, but you don’t feel you can say anything about it because of how you will look
the doctor nora episode, the blain sternin episode, and the episode where frasier and niles are "stuck" in the car park.
This is my exact list.
Anything with Dr. Mary.
I hate Daphne's Room. For me Daphne episodes are like Family Guy's Meg episodes.
True but it’s also super stressful
The Antique Roadshow one. Niles and Frasier get their hopes up so high and it's just so cruelly dashed. It has it's great lines but the climax should just be skipped.
What?! That’s like, my favorite episode!
Veneer!
Mine too!
their hopes get up so high only to be dashed by the bureaucrat. It's too close to home.
I guess different tastes make the world go round!
Hungry heart. That Daphne pregnancy cover up is cringe
Recently I've been looking at the Daphne and Niles romance thing differently. While I like that they grew to have a beautiful romance, I dont like how they got together. They hurt people that trusted them, and Mel and Donny likely were very traumatized from their experiences. I like the show, but I don't envy them for having that sort of character development. Still, it was excellent writing. Love the show.
I don’t
The one where they all talk about dying, don't like that one. Also don't love the one with Woody, the last 2 episodes and ones with Dr. Mary, but I don't skip these ones.
The Friend, Crane vs. Crane, the Samantha Pierce episodes, Secret Admirer, Dr. Mary episodes, Wheels of Fortune.
I start over right around the beginning of season 10.
The musical number is what gets you!? I don’t think there are any episodes I would skip, personally, but if I had to pick one, it might be Freudian sleep. But not for the musical bit, I find it soooo wholesome 🥲
In fact, it might be the part that makes me choose another episode if I had to.
I just don't think one of John Mahoney's strengths was singing! The fatsuit they put Daphne in in that episode is also pretty off-putting to me.
I agree on the fat suit for sure. And yeah, even the singing is a bit gruff, but that’s part of why I find it so wholesome 🥲. I’m a sucker for very genuine sounding singing, even if it has mistakes, haha
Sliding Frasiers. I hate it.
Sliding Frasiers. I hate it.
I like Freudian Sleep to a degree. The ladies who are supposedly Martín are disturbing and I skip the dancing part too. I don’t like any with Kate Costas. There’s more but I don’t know all of the titles
The only episode with Kate that I actually watch is the last one at the airport. 🫣
I usually skip s1e1 and the one in the later season when Niles has the really weird dream about the baby and Daphne
I start watching wherever in the series I left off each night, letting the warmth of Niles and Frasier’s voices lull me to sleep.
There are a few episodes that are the antithesis of melatonin, so I have to make sure I’m past them before I press play each night:
- The Greek family episode.
Bulldog-heavy episodes (at less ones where he’s yelling his “total BS” line more than a couple times or doing a lot of horn tooting).
Can’t Buy Me Love: the teenager is annoying.
Kissin Cousin: Zoey Deschanel’s character is annoying
Rooms with a View: sad/give me bad dreams about toothaches 😂.
Farewell Nervosa: that song gets stuck in my head and wakes me up sometimes
The Show must go Off: obvious reasons
Jean Smart episodes in season 8 where’s she’s screaming at Kirby over the phone.
- Mary Christmas and Poppy episodes
Beloved Infidel.
First two seasons are my favorite of the series but this one is just cringe with his mom being a cheater.
Good for Martin I guess sticking it out. Martin and Frasier bond over something like both having their spouses cheating on them. St least they have one thing in common
The Nanny Gee episode
Greeks, Cheers characters (excluding Lilith) and Anne are automatic skips.
Any episode post season 7 (with the exception of season 11)
Freudian Sleep is awful. I cannot watch it
None ! Never skip an episode. They’re all so great 😀
I love the show, but there are some that I skip. Not a big fan of his first female boss (dirty girl). I don't like his old high school crush either, Kirby' mother. Lana? (Sorry, can't remember names.) And Daphne's brother is a total waste of screen time.
Kirby's mom was initially called Lorna and then later it randomly changed to Lana!
The same one. I can't stand musical numbers.
Another would be the entire angle involving Kirby and his mum. She was unbearable with her personality, he was just a generic sitcom token moron character that's written so deliberately to be stupid it goes from being a person to a cartoon character.
I do find it painful to watch Mel in a lot of episodes, and it's thanks to the same problem I have with Kirby. By drilling it in so much that the character is one thing, they lose everything that would make me want to watch the character continue their arc, if they even have one. It's obvious the character is going to be disposed of for the climax of a plot thread so they just carry on hitting you over the head with the character's actions. Problem is, we got it several actions ago. There's a huge difference between loving to hate a character and just genuinely hating a character.
The Anne ones, I fast forward any scenes with Charlotte in them. I hated that story line and still do to this day.
Aww, I love Charlotte personally!
If I have it on for background noise, I let it all play through. But when it’s time to settle down and watch it before bed, I can’t stand to watch the following: The one with Sam. / The one where Niles fills in for Frasier and ends up counseling the pro basketball player. / The one with the Greek family. / The one with Zoey Deschanel. / The one where Lilith asks Frasier for another child. / The one where he keeps going back to the house he “helped build” and bothers the family. / The one where all the girlfriends come back to haunt him. / The one with all the weird dreaming in the cabin. / The Cheers reunion at the airport. / The Thanksgiving episode where they try to get Freddie into that school. / The one where Charlotte and Frasier have car trouble and get stranded and stay in a strange family’s home. / I also hate anything with Daphne’s mom/brother but don’t skip because it’s too much of the end of show, sadly.
It’s the poor quality of these episodes for me. There are other episodes mentioned in the comments where the cringefactor IS strong, but the writing still makes it top tier in my opinion
The Greek one. It's just so random and out of place. Like some pilot episode reject or something...
Ann hodges episodes, I'm sure I'm not the first person to comment this but I feel so strongly about it that I will add it again!
The one with Michael Keaton, although I like Michael Keaton as an actor for some reason, I totally dislike that episode
Last time it was the one where Niles is having heart surgery. Too sad.
The "So the pain my BUTT could be coming from ACROSS THE TABLE" line was gold, though.
The only one I REALLY can't stand is Roz's "IT'S HER OR ME" ultimatum. Seriously wtf was that.
