In the last few years there were a ton of reports saying that an SUV was in the works for 2025, is this supposedly still happening?
I hope not. Chevy wants a fast suv? Fine do so, but don’t call it a corvette. It’s a stupid marketing choice that cheapens the brand. It’s already a value sports car, it doesn’t need to be cheaper still.
Did Urus cheapen Lamborghini? No. Did the Cullinan cheapen Rolls Royce? No. Did the Purosangue cheapen Ferrari? No.
You drive a ‘95 Corvette and GM doesn’t care what you think as you don’t generate any revenue for them. They want to maximize profits which the Corvette SUV will easily help them do. I’ll put my deposit down today if it was announced.
Not the same. It’s a Lamborghini Uris, a unique name for the brand. There was no other Uris in the brands line up before.
Calling a new SUV from Chevy a corvette is stepping on arguably chevys most tenured model name “corvette” . That cheapens the names reputation and recognition. Its had 8 generations to establish.
Make a fast SUV, fine but don’t call it a corvette. Give it a unique and exclusive name.
Yeah, call it something like, oh idk, maybe a Trailblazer SS
It at least has some past history with being a fast SUV. I liked the trial blazer SS myself. For the time was a blast to drive and quick to. Sucked to work on since it was a tight fit.
The “new” trailblazer I think is doing well too.
Yeah, they really somehow crammed that ls2 in there. They sounded soo good, tho!
People pay for prestige. A Chevrolet Trailblazer isn’t going to sell the same as a Corvette SUV.
Worse, GM has a brand for that which they've been trying to rebrand as "prestige": Cadillac.
GM only thing that making Corvette a "prestige" brand would do is hurt Cadillac further and waste the millions upon millions they've spent the last decade on the V series branding.
I swear, GM marketing has a problem where half of them have no idea what the other fucking half is doing.
Produce a midship which will have a hybrid supercar level performance trim? Let's replace the Grand tourer with it, ignore the fact that our brand going toe to toe in a few years against lambo, ferrari (okay that was a late announcement), porsche and others has nothing comparable to them.
Either corvette should have had their own branding in DPi/GTP and Hypercar outside of GTE/GT3 in WEC and IMSA, with cadillac being pushed to fight Bently, RR, Genesis and such. OR the corvette should have had a proper sendoff with the C8 being branded as the Cadillac Zora VR or some shit.
I like the C8 a lot, but looking at the bigger GM picture all they are doing is fighting themselves with these stupid decisions. Like putting shitty thin heavily side bolstered seats in the Acadia that dig into your armpits if you aren't 6' or taller.
Yup Cadillac finally has broken the old man mold. The black wing and V series has never been so good.
General Motors historically does not like anything being able to kill that golden child the Corvette. But now the Cadillac black wings have been able to carve themselves a niche and luxury performance or Corvette value performance. One is Wall Street, one is Blue collar.
Yeah, General Motors has a big history of shooting himself in the foot with marketing. Remember the Cruze diesel? The car got more power and MPG then Volkswagen allwhile meeting emissions. Marketing did nothing to capitalize on diesel gate. Didn’t try to take any of those Volkswagen diesel customers that were hurt by the betrayal and had to turn their cars in. So do that they only sold 15,000 in the US and let that die on the vine.
The Chevy SS sedan that was amazing. Absolutely no marketing and no one sent of. Put forward to make it compete. So most people didn’t know existed or that it was offering a manual. Another car marketing let die on the vine.
I think the Vett needs to stay as is. It’s carved a great trench with value sports car. It allows folks to buy 911 performance for way less. The boomer crowd loves is, and middle/ upper middle class love them. But can’t afford a 911
911’s are not what they once were. Once upon a time, they were a light weight, good HP-to-weight, nimble sports car. Not a world beater in power, but enough to get in trouble with. With the S—motors, you got a race motor in street guise - rather like the old Z06’s with their weight obsession. Then they (the 911’s) got “fat“. They added power but also added air conditioning, fat tires, flared wheel wells, Recaro seats - and their weight, and corresponding performance changed. Today’s 911 bears little resemblance to the sports car it originally was. It’s a heavy “boulevard cruiser”. It can do decently on the track, but at costs WAY exceeding a Corvette Z. I’ve owned Porsches; today American iron is the way to go, unless you are attempting to boulevard-impress someone.
Sure they have definitely changed. But there is no arguing they are absolutely weapons. At auto cross a S absolutely humbled our c5. Even with all that weight and comfort you Mentioned it’s 3400 lbs so not really that bad. Sure not Miata
It’s in no way a boulevard cruiser. Throwing it around at the track was an absolute experience. Especially when the owner who was very skilled and a regional champ. Showed me what a modern 911 on PS4S could do.
Did Urus cheapen Lamborghini?
Yup.
Did the Cullinan cheapen Rolls Royce?
Nah, but they're not a sports car brand.
Did the Purosangue cheapen Ferrari?
Abso-fucking-lutely. Nothing says "Pure Blood Ferrari" more than a 5,000 lb luxury SUV.
I’ll put my deposit down today if it was announced.
Ah, now it makes sense why you're stick-riding this so hard.
I completely disagree on the Purosangue. Not only is it one of the best looking SUVs ever, they also put the V12 AND DCT into it instead of a twin turbo V8 + ZF8 as Lamborghini did (and it’s not even a Lamborghini specific V8, it’s a VWAG V8)
The Purosangue is by far the coolest performance SUV on the market right now imo, followed by DBX 707 and Cayenne Turbo GT.
You're a different kind of enthusiast than a lot of the people here. To some of us an SUV, no matter what brand it is, is as exciting as a toaster. An image link labeled "Lamborghini" or "Ferrari" used to always be exciting. Now, when it comes up with a picture of an Urus or Purosangue it's just a disappointment. To us that link feels exactly the same as getting Rick Rolled.
I’ll put my deposit down today if it was announced.
Let me ask you then - why do you care if it's got a "Corvette" nameplate on it instead of "Chevrolet"?
That’s like asking me why I didn’t buy a Hyundai Palisade instead of my Escalade V. Get the f out of here.
If you're part of the SUV crowd, own that. There's no shame in that. Buying it just cause it's got "Corvette" printed on it makes you a poser. There is shame in that.
Shipping a Corvette SUV makes you this guy but in the board room: https://www.reddit.com/r/Corvette/comments/1dqsl1b/why_would_you_so_this_shit/
I want to be here with other sports car folks, and that's kinda the point. If you turn r/corvette into r/chevrolet by posting pics of your SUV, I'm out. If you really want the name, fine, I guess? But it loses any credibility to me.
This doesn't apply because Corvette is a car, not really a brand. You don't have different models of Corvettes. You have the current generation Corvette and that's it.
Lambo, Ferrari, Rolls, etc are car brands that have multiple cars. A more apt and correct comparison would be a Chevrolet Suburban is a Chevrolet SUV, and a Chevrolet Corvette is... the Chevrolet sports car.
Did they make an Aventador SUV? Because that's the only analogy that would make sense. Just making an SUV isn't the issue.
GM already makes suv's and crossovers. Your exotic car analogy doesn't make sense because your examples aren't using a previously named model with a totally different car.
I.e. the Mach E. They shit on the mustang legacy by trying to sell kore cars by using its moniker to prop up sales.
It never was.
good
Whew! Scared me for a second.
Ya don't do the Ford please
That was when there was talk of making Corvette its own brand, with an entire line up of vehicles. I’m not so sure there is still a plan to do that. It seems that Cadillac will continue to be the luxury/performance brand for GM.
Yep, trying to be like Porsche. It would be good to have it’s own brand but will probably make all “Corvette” models more expensive then need be.
It was never happening. The rumors started due to a spy photo of a Buick SUV at the same time Mark Reus said something about "future Corvette models" when talking about the Zr1 and Zora
Thanks for telling us. I was seriously about to barf out my Cheerios.
I hope the F not... IF they do, move it to the Cadillac brand with Corvette powertrain.
This exists today. It’s called the Escalade V Blackwing
Come on.
The Escalade V is over 6000lb and is a full size body on frame which will never handle remotely close to a sports car.
The performance SUV to compete with Urus, DBX, Purosangue etc would need to be under 5000, and I hope Chevy makes it.
I hope too. They already have the Camaro suv (trailblazer) and it’s one of the best looking performance suvs produced imo. I hope they make a monocock Escalade v which would hopefully solve for the weight issue of the body on frame
Well the Escalade is just huge, no? I’d hope it’s much smaller, like XT4/XT5 size.
Now, if they could fit the LT6 in any front engine car somehow… please hahaha
I hope not, just call it a Cadillac instead
Delete this nephew
If it’s gonna be like the mustang mach e I’m gonna cry
I’d rather them put a c7 motor in a trailblazer or something
I HOPE NOT! Cries in her bed, curled up, praying to Thor the God of Thunder to stop that travesty.
God, I sure hope not. Ford's travesty is enough.
Please don't GM the Mach E Mustang was enough, we don't need you joining the party 🤣
I'm a bit skeptical about whether it'll happen on not. GM's plan in '22/'23 was to turn the Corvette into its own sub-brand for 2025 and introduce a 4-door as well as a crossover Vette, both of which were to be EVs. With the current pullback in EVs and growing consumer demand towards PHEVs I don't see this happening in 2025. That's not to say that it may never happen but I would honestly be surprised if GM announced either of these models before 2027 at the earliest.
Lets hope not. No need to further tarnish the brand.
If it does I'm hoping it fails
We can only hope!
Simply trolling 'vette owners, based on Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini manufacturers made them .
