I might be overly critical, but specifying what design niche you expect handouts to conform to seems a little choosy.
Yousoundverygenerous, doyouhaveanysparespacestoo?
Hmmm... What brand, tho?
Oxford. Always.
Came to say the same... please give them a comma! Western, farmhouse, any style will do!
I felt like I was looking at a Jackson Pollock painting trying to read this
I bet it came furnished with roaches, cigarette butts and bits of ham sandwich!
I’ve a full stop or two I can throw in, seeing as it’s for charity.
I think I can spare a CR/LF.
And a ‘please’, too.
Came to the comments for this. Was not disappointed to see it at the top.
She doesn’t have a car. Can you deliver?
Actually does anyone have a car?
"Brand new benz mercedes lexus leather interior silver or black only please must deliver baby jesus bless you!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I need some stuffstuffstuff new house stuffstuff and if anyone stuffstuffstuff then also stuffstuffstuff. Morestuffmorestuffmorestuff
Did you write the original post we are looking at? This seems to be written by the same person.
But are you getting rid possibly free crockpot air fryer kitchen table western farmhouse stuff any organized?
Because that’s the question at hand here.
I don’t know…OOP seems as adverse to question marks as any other kind of punctuation, so it’s hard to be sure what’s at hand tbh.
My public school education was free too!
Proper writing mechanics go a long way; being understood comes in handy. Pay attention in Freshman Comp, kids.
I can tell this person is probably using speech to text. My aunt does it and all her texts are exactly like this.
I was just thinking that
Golden!!!! Awards if I had some!!
I would love a casserole dishes vacuum cleaner.
Where do they live now, in a hollowed out tree? I mean I get needing some bigger things, if you don't have a dining room for instance where you're living now, but sippy cups? Kids' plates?
Yeah that was super weird. Like how do you not own those already or how are you financially able to purchase a whole ass house and can’t afford dollar store sippy cups?? Weird..
They want the diamond encrusted sippy cups
Dollar store sippy cups aren’t farmhouse-themed. You expect her to ruin her theme (that someone else has to put together) for her kids?
She expects them to be beige
With the words “Live, laugh, love” engraved into them.
🤣 true! I was being very insensitive to her farmhouse aesthetic!
Reality is a lot of people rush into a house because Tik Tok told them that renting is evil. They probably put the 3% down on a credit card and spent 50% or more of their income on mortgage and utilities.
Add into that a probably way to big of a car payment and they can't afford even the most basic things.
Well at least the house is protected when the inevitable chapter 7 comes around.
I didn't think mortgages are handed out like that anymore.
But what have her kids been eating and drinking out of, until now?
Commas.
I assumed "first house" meant "other than a room in my parents' house" or "we were in a shelter and now we're in a house"
"Oh and while you're at it can you toss in some Little House on the Prairie Meets Joanna Gaines farmhouse-core outfits? We are really leaning in hard on the theme".
Definitely a possibility but I still think she can afford dollar store sippy cups
I assume they were in an apartment. First house doesn't indicate any of that, "first place on my own" would
Apparently they didn't need to vacuum their old place either.
They never said they bought the house.
they want farm chic sippy cups
Probably with their parents who are probably kicking them out because they had to provide all of that stuff for them at their house.
No no no. Their lack of punctuation makes it hard to discern, but there should have been a comma between “kid” and “plates”. Those are two separate free things they want - a free kid and free plates.
Is anyone giving away all the things you own?
I would like all the things you own... if farmhouse.
I can spare a cluck cluck here and a cluck cluck there.
I'll add the moo-moo here and the moo-moo there.
western farmhouse.
I only have French Country stuff so I guess I'm out.
I only have modern sippy cups… sucka. The finest bluey has to offer.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm giving away commas.
Yeah, the punctuation (or lack thereof) is more annoying than specifying “western farmhouse stuff”. And the “western farmhouse stuff” specification is really fucking annoying.
TBF, who would want to end up with a bunch of free eastern farmhouse stuff?
Ikr? We’re not savages!
This is not a post, it's a shopping list in the middle of a stroke.
If you don't punctuate things, you leave your options open and might get things you didn't even consider. Use commas, and you get a crock pot or a kitchen table. Leave them out, you might end up snagging a free crockpot air fryer or an air fryer kitchen table.
I like imagining a multi-use crockpot table.
Lol right? Wtf is a “sippy cups kid table kid plates”? I haven’t heard of this brand of kid plates yet.
Hmmm... a child sized plate, that can be used as sippy cups and a table? Sippy cups that when put together make a table shaped like a kid with a plate attached? The more I try to imagine the more grotesque! 🤣
Lmao
Asking for absurdly inexpensive items like 49¢ plastic plates and cups is just bizarre, I simply cannot understand the logic.
Because the dollar store stuff isn’t farmhouse chic, dummy!
I'm on a few give away sites and there's tons of kid stuff cuz you just use it for a few months or years and then move on to a new phase so a lot of it can be passed along.
There was a recent "housewarming" ask a CB sent to all their co-workers, which included paper towels and toilet paper.
They sent the ask to recently fired co-workers, as well.
I so hope someone replied with "Here, you can wipe your 🍑 on my pink slip."
Well, when you have like 1 party a year and go to Costco, you end up with paper plates and cups you won't use for the next decade
Way overpriced farmhouse accessories. No wonder they want them for free.
punctuation is free lol.
It is the time of year to hit up yard sales and rummage sales.
I have gotten some really nice stuff pretty cheap at rummage sales.
Also, thrift shops. Every Goodwill, Salvation Army, and any other local thrift shop will be full of these items. Most hardly used, just donated Christmas and wedding gifts.
Yep it’s insane how much kid stuff and baby stuff we have. We had a yard sale this weekend and had great prices.
This crap gets me. Kid plates? Never in my life have we used “kid plates.” Regular plates work just fine. I feel like the choosing beggar is a “special” breed of human that lives disconnected from reality.
They can purchase plastic plates at the dollar store. I’m old and have kids, grandkids and they eat off of plastic/rubbery plates til they are like 4.
We have reusable plastic plates and cups for our kiddo, cause with 3 y/o you tend to knock over something or let it slip more often.
I grew up with plastic plates and they are still (32 now) great for stuff like camping, cause they are nearly indestructible.
Our kid plates have a silicone cover, so when my toddler decides two bites of dinner is enough, the whole plate can get covered for when hunger strikes again. Also, plastic plate for when it gets thrown.
Who did this design with the cover is really a genius.
And having a toddler claiming hunger near death and then just eating a bite or two is something I know really well 😂
Oh man, that would have come in so handy.
The baby I nanny has plastic bowls with lids for the same reason, and they come in handy! She also has a couple of cool bento boxes.
Our everyday plates were either glass or a good-quality stoneware. The children didn't eat on them until they were old enough not to damage the plates or themselves -- and the toddler years were not old enough!
probably referring to plastic plates. kids throw shit
I do use plastic plates for my kids because they throw things and aren’t kind to breakable things. I love my fiestaware plates and I don’t want them broken to pieces because a toddler tossed them when I wasn’t looking.
I'm pretty fancy so I use paper plates. Only the finest great value or Members Mark. (Note, I'm a widowed mother of 6 without a dishwasher so fuck dishes)
Same! Same!
If you just want something non-breakable, you can get plastic plates at Target for 50 cents each.
For fucks sake.
Punctuation. It’s not fucking difficult.
People who write like that make me want to puke
Me too. Bugs the hell out of me and tickles my gag reflex.
I live in a 'farmhouse'. We don't need fancy decor and we don't need to beg for fancy decor. Real farmhouses are for real work. With actual crops and livestock. That being said, I'd love a free pony (as long as it came with free vet care for life).
I think the people who design this “farmhouse decor” shit haven’t been within a mile of an actual farmhouse.
They absolutely have! Only to reclaim a barn door or two, but still
This is off the subject but I am always thinking with the “hobby” farm TikTok/insta content all those people commenting “this is my dream!” have no idea what living on a farm is really like!
I understand the outdoor space, the land, the cute animals seems like a dream but it’s just a shit ton of never ending work. I grew up on a farm and I swore every day I would never live in the country as a grown up! It was endless work all day every day and none of it was fun to me as a kid.
I just read a comment yesterday on a hobby farm site and the girl said: “we are moving from NYC to a 40 acre farm in another state and I’m so excited ! But nervous because I’m 6 months pregnant and have no motivation” and I was like ahhhhhh what the heck that is a NIGHTMARE she has no clue what is coming! I didn’t say anything because it’s too much to comment on someone’s joy but yeeesh. Worried about that one!
Living on a farm is the opposite of my dream 😂 My school district growing up (in Desperate Housewives Suburbia) actually has a working farm property (lots of field trips!), and I took several classes there in high school. Tons of fun, but to do that all the time… NO.
The farm also has a kick ass sledding hill, but they privatized it and turned it into some sort of toboggan run thing where you have to pay and get tickets ahead of time (and good luck getting the things, because they sell out IMMEDIATELY). I miss the good old days 😂
Lol, same! When you’re plucking and processing chickens on your kitchen table, come talk to me about farmhouse chic lol.
You would like a free pony, but are you going to look in its mouth like a CB?
Good point. Probably not. I'll wait until it's a vet emergency, then demand everyone pay the vet bills and accuse them of murdering my pony's christmas if they don't.
Also, the pony will need an iPad while he's bedridden
Vintage Jaguar Fendi purse beluga caviar 72" flatscreen male calico cat a Gucci shoetree a solid gold Kama Sutra coffee pot a McCulloch chainsaw. Baby's arm holding an apple. Please and thank you fam
I’ve always wanted a giraffe, and I live in a house. Does anyone have a free giraffe for me?
It must be a Masai giraffe though, no Reticulated, Southern or Nubian for me! Must deliver.
I think they need punctuation more then anything else.
I cannot figure out what western farmhouse kitchen organized style is. I suppose it’s very different from the popular eastern farmhouse kitchen disorganized style that was so prevalent in the late 80’s.
I've been homeless for over a year. Will somebody get me a place to live? What what website do I go to? I'll ask real sweetly for just a studio in someone's garage? I pay on my bills. I've never been evicted. I'm single I'm disabled. I don't have a drug problem and I don't have any kids. I keep to myself and keep busy. I'll go ahead and ask. Does anybody have any place I could stay in Brevard county, Florida? It would be so appreciated.
Commas would be good also. 🤣
What a vomitfest of a sentence.
That's a brilliant noun, but at the same time, I wish I've never seen it
Asking if anyone is getting rid of stuff like this (which people very often do, based on the donations seen at Goodwill) doesn't make someone a choosing beggar.
A choosing beggar would ask if anyone was giving away an air fryer, then raise their nose if it wasn't a name brand/expensive model.
And they aren't even begging really--"possibly free"
I use my air fryer but I don't use my kid plates or sippy cups. Why should they languish in my cabinets?
lol has this person even bothered to look on CL or letgo for free stuff? People just don’t wanna work these days 🥴🤣
I have no problem in her asking for any of this... however, I have a problem with her manners for not saying please or thank you in her post.
Just a beggar. This sub has been overrun with posts from beggars lately. Not people being choosy, just begging.
I wouldn't even say beggar. Its just asking if anyone happens to be getting rid of stuff. We're still settling in our house and have been changing our small and big appliances and furnitures. Most were in near perfect conditions, we were just upgrading. I usually find it more trouble to offer for free or not online, as people usually get on my nerves very quickly. I usually give to someone i know, or i drop at a second hand store. I constantly have a few things waiting for my next drop. If i had patience for people i'd be glad of being able to give my stuff a second life.
Yeah this whole post is super weird to me. It's pretty common for people moving into a new place to get hand me downs from others. And a lot of people are really happy to get rid of old stuff. Kid stuff especially since kids grow into adults who don't need sippy cups anymore.
Unfortunately the post is missing from Facebook now, but the second time I checked on it, OP declined decor that didn’t match her style. I should’ve screenshotted.
None of that seems unreasonable.
I think people asking for free shit shouldn't be worried about what style something is. If you need it, just be happy you got it.
And they could always use it temporarily until they can afford to buy something they like, and then pass it on to someone else. That’s what I did with all the hand me downs from my grandparents.
This seems more like a want, not a need. It is a specific ask, but it's not outrageous and they are not (in this picture at least) being rude or entitled about it.
No job, 1 kid, moving out of parent’s place, and turning down what doesn’t fit in a decor theme seems choosy. You couldn’t have known that of course, but I’m just providing some context that I gathered from a quick profile scout. Just my opinion.
I guess if you need the post karma that bad but it's a stretch.
Their right to ask. My right to decline.
Omg this is why there are thrift shops!!! I bought used when I needed something and couldn't afford it. Those are great too when not sure I'm going to like a kitchen gadget (bread maker, air fryer that still collects dust but I only paid 10 and 20 for them) I bought used. Also the dollar store is awesome go there, spend money and fuck off
People are so effing cheap. Pay for your own shit like the rest of us!
If you just bought a house, I'm sure we're going to see "can someone fix this, that and the other for free" posts soon🙄
Hey! We just moved into our first house! We would appreciate any household items you have to give, thanks!"
That's how these posts should read. And, I'll be honest, posts like this usually have soooo much more luck.
Sure, I’ll pay for it all if you can write out a paragraph with proper grammar.
I didn’t see a “please” in there
Actually they didn’t say please!
One period.
One.
How do you have kids but no kid serving wear?
I would be happy to give someone household items they need, of which I have more than one. I haven’t decided if it’s just my vanity that would hope for a please or thank you.
I see a lot of this type post on pay it forward pages here. Most are people that are coming out of a shelter or reuniting with their kids. Some groups have rules about asks like this but some groups don't.
Wtf did they use before? Did they drink from a trough & eat off the floor?
Maybe fleeing an abusive relationship or something? My friend had to do that and luckily her parents were able to take her and her girls in until she could get back on her feet, but you know how she furnished her house at first? Hand me downs and thrift store finds!
She replaced things as she could afford to.
Who gets their first house and can't afford basic shit? If you can't afford that you can't afford a house!
I enjoyed seeing this for some reason, but they're not Choosing Beggars. I see nothing wrong with asking if people have free stuff to give away. Beats financing the millionaire CEO of Goodwill. Now, if someone could volunteer to give them lessons in uses of punctuation, that'd be great.
That’s true, I guess I’m a little biased because I scrolled through OP’s page and could tell immediately she has no job & a kid. As a mom that’s mildly frustrating to see, but you’re not wrong.
Specifying a style seems choosy to me.
Me too, especially since she was apparently rejecting offers that didn’t match her style (I wish OP had gotten SS!).
I’ve got some punctuation I can give them.
When my son moved into his first place, we were fortunate enough to get a lot of things from our buy nothing. He was not picky and was grateful for everything that was given to him. He still has that used couch - 3 years later. He never thought to request specific items.
where were they living before that they didn't have this stuff?
Need anything else? Like furniture a garbage bag full of $100’s perhaps?
It seems like they are just listing things they would take, not asking for anyone to completely furnish it. Lots of people have extra kitchen items laying around. Hell, I've only lived by myself for 3 years and I just got together a box of stuff to get my younger brother started.
There's a guy in our buy nothing group that lists all his demands then checks them off with a check emoji when he gets them and constantly bumps his posts till his demands are met.
If it’s a buy nothing group, it’s fine to ask if anyone is getting rid of household items, but it doesn’t hurt to say please or say that you would appreciate it. I’m always surprised at how rude people are in those groups… and they actually expect people to help them! 🤦🏻♀️
This sub is ridiculous now. There is absolutely zero harm in asking for secondhand items that would be being donated anyway. This person is neither a beggar nor choosy.
In all fairness to the choosing beggar in this particular case as somebody who bought a house and was inundated with friends and family looking to give me free furniture IE get rid of some of theirs this is not that unusual a request.
In most friend circles if you have a new spare bedroom to furnish you'll be inundated with free beds dressers Etc. And God help you if you have a dining area that needs a table and chairs.
Inclusion I don't really think this is choosing beggar behavior. This is more a siren Call to all those people who have been looking for a place to get rid of some of their stuff.
No, but I have some commas.
Give these to them:
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Awww come on man. Young folk these days have it hard enough. I’m sure this house is wonderful but filled with extra costs and headaches. No hurt in asking for a little help. It’s amazing what some assholes want to throw out or give away. And they have small children for fuck’s sake.
I am younger than OOP, I have a 5-month old, and I pay rent. I made certain that I worked enough while pregnant to be able to afford midcentury modern furniture because there was no way I was gonna specify my decor style when asking for handouts, lol. I’m not saying they’re bad people but OOP posts in this group with a list of requests frequently. I respect your compassion though.
The person begging must be at least in the gradient of being an entitled jerk, this sub is not a place to mock poverty
You have no idea of what their life is like. Why they're unemployed. Your replies make it pretty clear you think you're better than them. Half of the replies from others are mocking their punctuation. Low education level usually means limited job opportunities. The types of jobs it can be hard to keep when the hours conflict with having a small child. When having to pay for child care costs more than you can earn. This isn't good content. It's poor shaming. It doesn't fit the sub at all but it gives you and the other high and mighty assholes a reason to feel better about yourselves.
Wow, that was a lot of assumptions about my character.
This post was a miss.
TBF, people get rid of stuff like that all the time. There are tons of crock pots and air fryers at the resale shop. Doesn't hurt to ask. There is nothing choosey about that post.
Got a new house, have nothing! Pls help if you can, kitchen items are the most needed!
What about a crockpot airfryer kitchen table, though?
Much harder to find
Eh, how many used toaster ovens are floating around in landfills? It doesn’t hurt to ask for what you need . And who knows what this situation is - someone who has been homeless? Getting out of an abusive household? Has a sick child? I don’t see them asking for anything terribly extravagant, and I’d rather give away/accept something that isn’t going to get its value back anyways rather than add to the piles of garbage sitting in the bottom of the ocean. Sustainability and helping out a single parent seems like a win win.
To add a little context, I picked up from the OOP’s profile that she was not single, had been living with parents, no job, and the kid looked about grade school age. And, as I mentioned in a different comment, she actually did turn down something offered that didn’t fit the mentioned decor. Not saying you’re wrong but still.
No, I appreciate the context. That’s a little different from running from your abuser or being a teen parent that is thrown out. I still like being sustainable with things like unused appliances or unwanted furniture, but I understand why you posted.
So my guess that maybe they'd be sponging off their parents until recently seems probable. That's why they didn't have anything. They just used mom and dad's stuff.
I bet the parents subsidized their home purchase, too.
Thats a beautiful first sentence
Dude. OMG someone give them some punctuation!!!!
All y'all know that those sippy cups are for her and her wine so when she gets a little dipsy she won't lose any.
Girl that Franzia pours straight down the gullet, no sippy cups necessary 😁
They actually do make sippy cups for wine 😂😂😂
They’re fantastic for the boat!
Somewhere there is a parent or parents rejoicing that their deadbeat offspring and their unambitious partner are moving out of the basement they've been living in rentfree for years with their ever-expanding, unplanned-for brood.
The only specific thing mentioned is western farmhouse stuff. It seems fairly normal for someone to ask for help with the basics, though. Isn't that where the idea of a housewarming gift started? It doesn't sound pushy or anything to me, just someone asking for literally anything that someone might want to give away.
That said, if you just bought a house in today's market, you can probably afford to buy some basic used furnishings.
Love how they randomly threw in the statement that it’s their first house right in the middle of their list of needs.
Some of this I understand for a first place -- basically, the furniture. But they had no vacuum cleaner before? No bowls or cups for their children?
Unless maybe they lived off their parents/the kids' grandparents and they provided everything: Why don't they have basics?
I think they're rapping
I read in the style of “My Favorite Things”. Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and air fryers and kids cup. I agree that most of these are reasonable requests. OP later states OOP rejects things not their style which is choosy. If you need plates you may not get farmhouse style organized plates.
I cannot stand it when people type like this
Now I wanna show up with a "casserole dishes vacuum cleaner" and see their face.
Other than the lack of commas, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this post. People are often throwing out or happy to give away things they no longer use. There's no begging or ridiculous demands. Just asks.
Well it’s not as bad as others I’ve seen. This person is looking for stuff that others are getting rid of.
I don't really see the issue, Sometimes people have old shit lying around they would rather have get used then go wasted. Sometimes this sub reaches a little too far on it's choosing beggars.
Part of me wants to get Facebook back just so I can go troll these posts
This post could actually be the third verse to ‘c’est magnifique, hooky street’ (the theme to only fools and horses) where the singer is trying to sell old stuff. 😂
I don't see this as choosing begger unless someone offered different and they refused, I mean people can say no.
That’s a big ask, I mean beg!🙄
At some point, it has to be AI, right?
Clearly they never heard the let’s eat grandma joke in order to know that commas save lives. I got to “crockpot air fryer kitchen table” before I realized that made no sense (a crockpot air fryer seemed plausible as a thing).
You say crockpot, I say crackpot…
You were much more polite, no please in their request. So rude, both the asking and lack of manners
I'm glad everyone beat me to the "punctuation" comments.
I have the electric appliances just gotta get them out of the garage…you dont mind that i took the copper out to pay rent do you?
TBF they probably had to sell everything just to be able to have a down payment in this economy. I'd put a /s but I'm not being sarcastic. How about /p for pessimistic.
Throw a house warming party, da.
The Salvation Army near my home isn't taking donations because people gave it too much stuff.
Desperately need commas…
I have some commas they can have for free.
