My dog is red and is a girl. Not Clifford red, but like ginger red. Blue Heelers are bluish grey and can be grey. It's almost like we're the only ones that associated color with gender. Also, a couple hundred years ago, they used to dress babies in whatever color clothes they could, like there's photos of baby boys in pink dresses, because maybe none of this matters.

When I was a tiny kid my father picked me up to hug me goodbye as he went to work. I was shirtless, and the pen in his shirt pocket scratched me. Being a kid, this made me cry.
I guess it scarred me as I did not fully hug anyone until I was like 17. I then realized how nice it was to hug when my grandma told me "that is not how you hug, this is how you hug". I've been on reddit for a few years now, I usually look at "newest" (at least until the latest "update") and never really noticed "BoomersBeingFools", and have started to read some of the posts and comments. As a boomer myself, I do chuckle at some of the idiotic things people my age do. I tend to view most things with a bit of a political slant, my first election I voted in was for George McGovern back in 1972, and have remained a registered Democrat my whole life. I don't think Democrats are superior to Republicans, we are all just human after all, but it seems while reading most of these posts and the comments that go with them, that most non-boomer aged people are only experiencing interacting with boomers who are also conservative, if not full on MAGA.
I know that I don't know everything, I know that I cannot experience events or interactions the same as younger people, it just seems like very few of you all ever experience interacting with a boomer aged person that are not idiots/assholes/MAGA cultists. Part of my live experiences include working retail grocery for some 30 years, so I do have first hand knowledge of how condescending shoppers can be towards "the help", and I also ran my own small business (retail store, not groceries), so I do have other experiences in helping customers as a business owner.
I also listen to radio a lot, most of it is of a progressive nature (Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, John Fugelsang) and then a local guy that is on a station that plays conservative talk in the morning, and I call into some of these shows on a fairly regular basis; my experience with most conservatives who listen and call in also is that most of them are pretty convinced that the media they use is giving them facts, so trying to talk to them is an exercise in futility in trying to counter the mis information they are fed and whole heartedly agree with.
Do most of you have other experiences with boomers that are not assholes or crazy, and only report on the truly "out there" ones you do encounter?
The subject of this particular post, the grandfather who wants to come to his grandson's birthday and make it more about himself instead of the birthday boy is pretty pathetic; I can't be with my grandson on his birthday, but was able to FaceTime with him and my son, I just cannot grasp how someone feels so entitled that they have to make most any and everything about them. I don't get it, period.

I honestly would lean into this with a passion. There are some very important traditions for birthdays that I would never subject a child to, but I would do for an asshole grandpa. Give the guests spoons to do a honorary ass paddle on pop pop. Slam pop pop’s face into a cake for the “lols”, memories and honour. Give each kid a silly string spray can and let them decorate pop pop, bonus points for it being cheese in a can. Make the party fun for the kids, by making pop pop into entertainment.
