How much more did you gain in your 3rd trimester? I ask because I’m 30w1d and I look huge lol. I know this baby is gonna gain more weight but I’m just like 🫠🫠!! I’m short with no torso, I’ve gained about 25lbs so far with most of it being one big jump in my second trimester. I looked in the mirror yesterday and swear I finally popped!! I can’t imagine getting any bigger lol
That's good to hear! I'm up 50lbs at 39weeks. I just hope I don't have excess skin afterwards. It's a shock seeing myself this large since it's the heaviest I've ever been. I'm not too worried as I know I'll lose majority of it post birth.
You have to gain a LOT of weight to have excess skin. Your abdomen might not be the same but the body has a way of distributing weight evenly. A lot will be retained water and increased blood. I lost 185lbs 10 years ago and had 7lbs of skin removed. I already look mostly “normal” two weeks post partum. I’m walking a lot and eating well and will be patient with my body as I exclusively breast feed my little one. I’d be surprised if you had excess skin apart from your abdomen with “only” 50lbs. :)
Wouldn't 50 or 60 pounds be a lot?
50 pounds of baby bump where its distrubuted out a bit more with like your breasts, tummy and just overall is very different than 50 pounds of fat. Skin is pretty elastic and for many people it will go back to normal more or less. My cousin had 4 babies including a set of twins and you would never be able to tell she had children other than her c-section scar, she went from 150 with the twins right back to 105 in a few months.
I gained 70lbs with my first two and I have a tiny bit of excess skin on my lower stomach just above my pubic bone. It’s not really noticeable and I carried mostly belly and I have no torso. I wouldn’t stress too much! Hope baby doesn’t make you wait forever! Almost there!
I’ve gone from 60kg (132lb) to 66.8kg (147lb) in 37 weeks, but it’s not been linear at all- basically all of it was in second trimester, and I’ve gained about 1kg in my third. I’m also “all at the front” or so everyone says, so my arms, chest, face all look pretty much the same. But that also makes me scared of stretched skin on my tummy… but guess there’s not much that can be done about that right now!
80 lbs or so here. This was really good to read as I was in shape and on track before the pregnancy (to GET pregnant actually). I'm about to round 39 weeks so it won't be long before I can begin deflation. Thanks for sharing.
I was at my lowest weight, of 145 before getting pregnant. Got up to 221. I’ve had a history of being very overweight, my highest weight was 330. It’s really really hard not to stress, but that will only make things worse. Feed your body well, rest, go on walks. Be kind to yourself. ❤️
this ! i felt like i was finally at a healthy weight and comfortable/confident in my own skin. now that im pregnant im too scared to weigh myself.. and im only 14 weeks, so i can’t imagine what ill look like in the third trimester 😳
It probably depends on the person. I gained all my weight in the first and second and gained nothing in the third.
Same I really stopped gaining weight around 30 weeks. I’m 38 weeks now. Hit 25lbs and kind of just sat there.
I know it doesn't feel like it but that weight gain sounds perfectly healthy! I'm 28 weeks and have also gained 25 lbs already! I feel like I look huge too, and am also terrified that I still have like 3 months to go 😅 but a lot of the weight gain could be water weight, especially with it being a hot summer! Don't sweat it you are doing great!!!
I feel like I gained the most rapidly for like a month between 28-32w bc I was so hungry but now 36w and it’s significantly slowed down. I also have a short torso so I feel your pain. I swear I can’t fit any more baby in there 😅
Due to the rapid nature of the gain, did you notice stretch marks forming? Or did you incorporate any preventative routine?
No stretch marks! Apparently it’s genetic. My mom and sisters got little to no stretch marks when they were pregnant too. I do lotion my whole body after I shower but I did that pre-pregnancy too because I have dry skin.
Thats great! I am unsure of my predisposition to stretch marks, so i hope a good moisturizer routine will aid in prevention. Fingers crossed i get lucky like you!
I am 38 weeks today and have gained 25.3 lbs over the entire pregnancy (started at 126.6 lbs at 4 weeks). I started week 29 at 141.5 lbs so have gained 10.4 lbs in third trimester, with another two weeks to go. I have been gaining about 1 lb/week this trimester so I expect to finish around 27-29 lbs total. I’m about 5’5” (so not super tall) and everyone tells me I look like I have hidden a basketball under my shirt lol.
at this point I’ve stopped weighing myself at home but last I’ve checked I’ve gained around ~35 lbs. in in 3rd trimester at 34 weeks. This is still within normal range, though I’m sure my weight gain will probably be a few lbs over recommended by the end. My docs are not concerned about it so neither am I 🤷🏻♀️ I think your weight gain trajectory is pretty normal!
i gained 40lbs the last 2 months, didn’t help that it was during thanksgiving and christmas lmao, but 70lbs all together
5 months post partum and lost most of it, for some reason i didn’t start losing weight till after i stopped breastfeeding
By 36 weeks I had gained 16lbs my whole pregnancy by 40 weeks I had gained 30lbs total. So in 4 weeks I gained 15 lbs alone. Nothing crazy about my diet changed either in fact I think I lost some of my appetite near the end
I gained 66lbs in my whole pregnancy. Lost 29lbs by week 2 pp
I gained a lot in the first trimester, my 2nd wasn't a lot of gaining, and now my 3rd I'm gaining rapidly. I'm at about 50 lbs now. It's not how I wanted to handle this pregnancy, because I know only 15 or so lbs is baby, uterus etc and the rest I will have to deal with as actual weight gain after birth.
My first time I was pregnant, I also gained a lot, I was very shocked to see that I only lost 16 lbs after birth. I'm also not trying to stress about it.
But the rest isn't straight body fat either, girl! Extra blood volume can be up to 5lbs, breast volume can make up another 2-3lbs, fluids held in your muscles can be another 3lbs. Give yourself grace.
Idk how much weight I’m expected to gain, but I went at 28 weeks, I had gained 5 lbs in 4 weeks. Then I went at 31 and she looked at me and goes “oh nice! Only one pound!”
Most of my weight came from 22-28 weeks! I’ve gained about 15 lbs as well. 😔
Ohhh I hope this is true for me!
I also suffered from baddddd nausea from 12-18 weeks. Which slowed down that gain. Nothing on the face of earth would help.
I would eat, feel good, and 5 minutes later throw up. I’m sure I’d be at 25-30 lbs by now if it wasn’t for that little stint my body threw.
I’m in my third trimester and not gaining weight. I have so much indigestion, I can barely eat. So far though, I am 35+6, I have gained 22 pounds. The majority of it coming from the second trimester.
33 weeks and gained 26lbs so far but it is ok to be STILL gaining at 33 weeks and beyond?? I’m gaining 1lb every other week especially if I’m not careful with eating, BM (constipation 😢) or workouts. I’m just HUNGRY and tired sometimes though! I just want to eat and relax… Of course, doctor says it’s “fine” but I’m also taking into account MY postpartum well-being because if I gain more from here then I’m afraid that means more work (more workouts), less rest and less time with the baby before I have to return to work.
I gained no weight until 3rd trimester, then gained 20 lbs. After birth I was up 30 because I was pumped full of fluids in the hospital. So much swelling.
I’m only 18 weeks and I’ve already gained 12 lbs probably more by now since I weighed myself last at Around 16 ish weeks
I’m 20 weeks and have gained 14.
I’ll probably have gained that much by 20 weeks
33 weeks gained 24lbs so far
I hadn’t gained any weight at about 20W, then gained about a pound a week since then, slightly more since I’m now at 37w and +19 pounds. Normal BMI and quite active.
I am 33 weeks now and have gained about 18lbs
36 weeks and have gained 31 lbs.
I’m 30+6 and have gained about 35 lbs. No GD, but I feel huge, and my growth scan last week put lil ham in the 91st percentile.
I gained 40lbs in pregnancy (almost all of it was in the third trimester lol) and by 3 weeks postpartum I lost it all. It was mostly water weight because I couldn’t eat much due to nausea my entire pregnancy. But my body looks the same as it did pre pregnancy now, just with a c section scar. I’m 5 weeks pp
I started off at 136lbs and went down to 120lbs. I’m 5’3 and I just hit 29w and I’m 131lbs. I feel guilty about not gaining a lot of weight. My OB told me not to worry about it as long as I’m eating, which I am. I even started drinking those Boost drinks, sometimes 2/3x a day to help put on weight. Everyone is different though, and I do have a baby bump for sure. I just hope I start putting on more weight soon.
I have no idea. I couldn't care anymore at that point. It seemed to be about as much as my 1st pregnancy. I felt huge, I was so much bigger than the 1st time and I wasn't eating too much.
I gained the most lbs in my 3rd and was getting nervous between like 32-34 weeks, but then it tapered and leveled out. I gained 15 this pregnancy but also have GD so it kept me in check.
First pregnancy, whatever was the lower end of normal for an overweight BMI, which I was only overweight by a fraction of a point, for a total of 10 kg (about 22 lbs). The second pregnancy, I had a continuously flipping baby who in general preferred to be breech with her head digging into my stomach, and I had a really hard time eating very much between the heartburn and lack space for my stomach to even exist much less expand and I ended up gaining nothing in the entire last trimester.
37 weeks and I’m up 47lbs! I was at my heaviest when I got pregnant and the number is very upsetting to see but I know my body is doing what it needs to do
I gained 20 pounds overall and most of it was in my third trimester! But then it stopped in my last month of pregnancy
I’m 36 weeks and have gained about 23lbs. All of it was the first two trimesters because I was eating whatever I wanted. I got diagnosed with GD around 28 weeks and had to go on a low carb/low sugar diet and have basically gained no weight since then.
31 weeks and so far I’ve gained 16lbs! Went from 135 to 151. I’ve heard of people gaining 10-15lbs in the last 10 weeks, and I’ve also heard of people who stopped gaining in the 3rd trimester. So it could go either way, I think.
It sort of depends on your starting weight and height also. For example I was 5"6 and 107lbs when I got pregnant, so underweight. I gained 43lbs there about by the end of my pregnancy. All but 5lbs have come off on there own and I'm 12 weeks pp.
I gained no weight and then all of a sudden in the third trimester I gained 30 pounds. It felt overnight.
I didn’t even look pregnant until 34, 36 weeks and then it all came in one big rush!
Due in August too and I'm enormous!! This is actually the second person who has mentioned being due in August and feeling huge.
I’m 36 weeks 3 days and I’m up 35lbs. Up untill 33 weeks I was gaining 1 to 2lbs a week. Weight gain has stopped for me since week 33. No idea if it’ll pick back up. Yours could possibly stop did in the 3rd trimester.
I keep being told I look so small, but I feel huge! I've gained around 25lbs this pregnancy, most of it being gained in my second trimester as well.. but it's all in the belly. I'm going to be 36 weeks this week. I couldn't imagine getting any bigger.. but I have! My family mentioned that I've definitely popped again, baby has also dropped.
I’m 35 weeks and gained 18 pounds. Am 5ft3 and started off at 120lbs. Now, 138 at my 35 week check in. Weight gain seems to be mostly evenly spread between second and third trimesters.
I’ll let you know when I’m finished, haha. I’m also short with basically no torso! I gained practically no weight in my first trimester, and the majority in my 2nd. It’s slowed a little, but still gaining each week not that I’m in my 3rd.
I started out a lean, athletic weight/build and I’ve already put on 30 lbs by 30 weeks. That’s while still exercising semi-regularly throughout pregnancy and eating well! I’m hoping it slows down, but everyone and every BODY is different. Your body will gain what it needs. Eat well, rest, take your prenatals, and stay active if you can!
I’m only 25w and I’ve already gained 24lbs, 10 of which were gained just in the last 4 weeks. My OB thinks I’m on track to gain about 40-50 total which she says it’s too much so here I am eating only salad lately and about to head to the gym 🙃
Nah girl let your body eat! Salad is great but let yourself eat some yummy food. 40 ibs is really not that much.
It’s so hard to know what to do 😭 this is my first and my OB says to eat more veggies and exercise more. But I also just want to continue doing my neighborhood walks and eating what I have been. Which is just meals I’ve been cooking at home, I don’t eat junk food or anything. I thought I was being pretty healthy. Just trying to do the right thing for me and my baby 🥲
You are doing great and from what I have read on here, every woman’s body prepares for pregnancy differently.
I gained almost 70lbs in my pregnancy. I’ve already lost 30lbs and I’m only 2 weeks post partum. I know it’s hard but try really hard not to stress about it feed yourself lots of protein and take your vitamins and rest. ❤️
