Exactly as the title says! I moved here a couple years ago from the East Coast. From the sunsets to the food to the landscapes, I really love it here. The question of what it would be like to grow up in Albuquerque often crosses my mind. I am just generally interested in what it was like for you to grow up in the 505! Would love to hear your stories. Tell me about your favorite restaurants that maybe have since closed up, day trips with your family, hang out spots when you were in your teens, urban legends, events that took place that everyone remembers... Anything! Please note the years as well.
EDIT: Thank you all for sharing your stories. I took the time to read all of them and some are still coming in. I'll read those too. It's amazing to live vicariously through all of your memories. What a beautiful city we all share. Though it seems things have changed I hope you all can still appreciate this place and see it for the magic that it still is. Even though I didn't grow up here I personally love this desert. I've met so many people and made so many memories in the last few years here and hope to continue to do so. This city (especially the Sandias) will always be held in special place in my heart. Much love to you all.
Grew up in the north valley in the 60s and 70s. Albuquerque was much, much smaller then - the far northeast heights was all just empty high desert. Lots more stars in the night sky. Way, way less development on the Westside. Rode bikes on the irrigation ditches, caught Crawdads in them and kept them as pets, slept on the back porch in the summer (adobe house with no air conditioning).
Teen years (mid to late 70s), we partied at the Rock House (Juan Tabo Picnic grounds), and on the riverbed when the Rio Grande would dry up and be mostly just sand). Rode motorcycles on the empty dirt roads on the west mesa. It was a simpler place and a much simpler time.
