We rescued a dog that had suffered some trauma. Once he realized he was safe and developed a sense of family stability he was inseparable from my wife. If she moved to another room, he got up and followed her. If she was gone, he was glued to me. I always said you wanted him at your side in a dire situation because he would stop at nothing to defend you. That was endearing if not annoying at times.
