I think you kind of just picked a strange example to make your point.

Glass Animals is a third-tier group in popularity (nothing wrong with that!) that happened to end up with a huge smash song at one point not too long ago.

This has happened throughout history. Here are some other examples. Glen Campbell in the 1970s. A-ha in the 1980s. The Goo Goo Dolls in the 1990s. Kings of Leon in the 2000s. Hozier in the 2010s (prior to him having another hit this year).

Many songs on the same album as Heat Waves have less than 50 million streams. They clearly don't have huge popularity outside that 1 song, but clearly have some.

Streaming numbers are an illusion if you don't remove the outliers. Heat Waves/Glass Animals...that's an outlier.

Do you have more insight on Knossos as a tourist trap? Is it just not as cool as it seems? Or is it worthwhile, but also very touristy? It sounded interesting to me.

Thank you for all the input. I would love to spend longer in Crete but we are making what might be our only trip to Greece of our lives (we are in California) and trying to see more rather than less.

One idea I have, besides just instituting British rules:

Allow only one new song per artist per week to debut in the Hot 100.

Potential downside is it encourages artists to release tons of singles and no albums, but maybe it could work? So this week only Fortnight would enter. Next week another song would. Since it's Taylor her album will probably "album bomb" the charts for 3-4 weeks, but even then she'd have at most 5 songs on the charts including Cruel Summer.

Down Bad will need "Forget You" style editing to be played on radio, which could sound clunky, so I don't see it as a single.

All of them are gonna chart, I'm confident.

A wheel with spokes, each spoke is a genre, and they exist on a spectrum. Each genre has poppier and less poppy elements, so some songs are closer to the middle (poppier) and some are out on the edge.

Some songs incorporate essentially no other genre, and are purely pop elements (Hot and Cold by Katy Perry, or Shivers by Ed Sheeran, as examples). These songs are contained right in the middle of the wheel.

So what is the difference between rock and pop? Does the song still have rock elements (electric guitar)? If so, it's some form of rock.
