Hi all. First time using Centrelink but trying to avoid having to call. We get a 45% subsidy for CCS, however recently I got a one off, extremely large payslip as it included a bulk payment of allowances (non-taxable) to cover expenses for a six week work trip. I’ve just received a message in myGov saying my percentage is now 0%. Is that likely to be a one off and my CCS will revert back to normal or do I have to chase this up and appeal it?
Moving to Canada is my dream. Or at the very least having a holiday place there in the snow.
Thank you, I didn’t realise I had to advise every time she went overseas, so long as we are away less than six weeks. However it will put this on my to do list to follow up. She was only gone three weeks.
My daughter was overseas for three weeks but is home now. I do travel very regularly for work (fortnightly usually for a short trip, though this is a very long trip) though so I wonder if that may affect things.
I didn’t get a request to update it to my knowledge but I will look into it regardless. Thank you.
It’s neither the first nor the last. It may be the middle one but to my knowledge I’ve had no requests to do so.
I get regular messages in myGov updating my estimate, probably fortnightly or so. Is this not the norm? We are new to this as our daughter only started daycare in February.
Unfortunately I’m overseas for work and so can’t go in to a centre in person and the phone says all operators are busy and hangs up.
August, Riley, Remy and Rory come to mind as they lean a little more unisex which appears to be your taste.
I don’t have a link but when I used to work at triple zero (911 equivalent) the rule of thumb was if they fall any more than their height, ED.
I just fly them I don’t do the risk mitigation lol so I can’t comment on the US policy (though I can’t help but consider the irony of some other things the US consider safe for children, however I digress) They do specify in the safety card somewhere that you still have to support the infant’s head and body as much as possible in the event of an incident so it still requires parental intervention to keep them safe. I’ve never traveled with a car seat so provided you’re happy to pay for the extra seat that may allay your fears.
In Australia it’s standard safety equipment provided by the airline. I’ve only just learned it’s not standard worldwide.
Really?!?!? I’m Australian so not privy to US regulations here, but it’s essentially an extra seatbelt with a loop on it that you slide through your own seatbelt then clip the extra length around your baby securing them to you. Not a perfect system but better than nothing. Blows my mind they don’t use them!
Ugh. I don’t seroconvert the whopping cough vaccine. I’ve had whooping cough twice, and the vaccine multiple times. Every time I get my blood tested it shows I carry no immunity. Hooray.
Anecdotally, I’m a pilot and have been flying for 18 years and internationally for 8. I’ve never experienced one of these events. Keep your seatbelts on, including the infant lap extension belt while you are seated, and your risk is low. Far lower than many other day to day activities you undertake with your baby.
Came here for the comments and have not been disappointed.
John Oliver has some impressive insults. Calling Tucker Carlson a ‘human boat shoe’ was a personal favourite.
This is an incredibly insightful comment. Well done.
These Final Hours is incredible. It’s gritty, borderline horrifying. An impressive early performance from a young Angourie Rice.
The difference is that the main issue Biden has is poor oratory skills, partly due to a stutter. He’s reasonably factual, moralistic and his arguments make sense. His is not a failure as a human being or a politician (no more than your average politician anyway), compared the the giant talking cheetoh who spews meaningless word salad, hate, and vitriol without taking a breath. Don’t get me wrong I’m no lover of Biden but comparing the two, one has substance.
A few months back I took my toddler to the park. She was just learning to talk. She was over my shoulder facing the other way, and I hear her go ‘woof woof’! And I turn around saying, ‘oh is there a doggy baby?!’ to see an escaped horse bolting straight for us!
Yep. Anywhere from Kelowna to Sun Peaks. I’ll get there one day.
What are some nice countries to move to?
