Ha! Yes I did indeed, but not a wink - painful on a red eye. Still had a 4 hour flight after. Agreed - Cheese. Is. Everything.

A friend of mine brings back musical instruments which seems to be a good, non-tat souvenir. Most of the more interesting countries tend to have locally hand-made, traditional instruments like drums, whistles or more higher-end ones like singing bowls (Nepal).

That's not actually true. I've sat in plenty of economy airline seats for far shorter time that were more comfortable than these ones. The was the worst long-haul plane I've ever been in.

I don't think it used to be - they used to come round a few times. And you definitely used to be able to have a gin and tonic or whiskey and coke or whatever. Now it's soft drinks, Heineken or Turkish wine. The white was ok, the red was awful. Food was fish and mash, or pasta with tomato sauce - both sub-standard. Where's the Turkish lamb/chicken etc that they used to serve? Was rubbish.

I was on an A330-300. I should have taken a photo. I was in left aisle seat in the middle section and couldn't get my right knee under the seat in front at all.

Completely agree with all of this. Had a nightmare with a missed connection in Istanbul airport last year. Was passed from one 'customer service' booth to the next until I ended up back at the first. Everyone just wanted to pass the buck. Agree also with the Star Alliance situation. Wanted to use my points for an upgrade on this last flight and you can't unless you're Miles and Smiles rather than any other Star Alliance member.

Used to agree. Don't anymore.

Hence the reason I wrote - 'it's as though...'. I have never had less legroom on a long-haul than I did on the last flight. So maybe this one was badly fitted, but as I mentioned, I've taken three LH Turkish flights recently and they've all been bad. I used to think they were hugely above average but I can't think of any I've had a worse experience within recent memory and I take between 60 and 70 flights a year. Granted most of those are shorter pan-European flights, but long-haul recently I've flown Norwegian, Finnish, Brussels, KLM, Emirates, Lufthansa and they've all been better.

What happened to Turkish Airlines?Question

And I'm talking about Economy here. Unfortunately I'm neither rich enough nor important enough to fly business. But they used to be great right? As far as I remember anyway. Nice seats, good Turkish inspired cuisine with hot rolls and a cheese selection, unlimited drinks including spirits and mixers, spacious modern aircraft and excellent entertainment choices. Outside the big Middle Eastern airlines, they were definitely the best. Not anymore.

I've flown long-haul with them three times in the past six months and each time it's been god-awful. Less knee room than Ryan Air, terrible food, very limited drinks, chaotic service. The flight I took recently which was 10 hours, was genuinely the worst flight I've ever been on. I'm 6'2" and I ended up with aching knees and zero sleep. It's as though they've added more seats to their planes, made the food and drinks way worse and not updated anything for years. Terrible. Anybody else think the same, or should I just expect a bad experience on a long-haul Economy flight? I also took a long-haul Eurowings flight operated by Brussels Airlines on the same journey as the one listed above and it was far far nicer that the one on Turkish so that says a lot.

As an aside, I also really really dislike the new(ish) Istanbul airport. Consumerist nonsense. Enormous, chaotic, and so overpriced it makes Dubai seem cheap. Nothing useful there like a pharmacy, just crappy Gucci clothes and faux Turkish souvenir nonsense. Turkey used to be the hub of decent travel, now it's main airport and national airline are rock bottom of the list in both categories for me.

I have this issue with my second hand Zody. Did you manage to work out the issue?

A misfire that got progressively worse as it went on and exploded with nonsense in the last episode. Most of the plot holes have been covered already, but this was a shambles from the top down. Lead characters were miscast, though supporting actors deserve credit, and even the costume department should take a long hard look in the mirror. Why were they always wearing odd cream outfits? How clever that they kept on alluding to Occum’s razor, before making the ending a hodgepodge of nonsense where everybody and nobody was guilty at the same time. Not. Very, very silly.

His speech at the end was heartbreaking. Inspirational guy who despite all shit he was put through, retains his integrity and manages forgiveness when hardly anyone, myself included, would ever let that slide. My biggest problem with Naya is that she kept on at it even though she could see the damage she was causing, that photo must have been such a mindf*ck, and announcing Lennay’s death when he was mourning his grandmother is as selfish and cold as it gets. The media as well, did not come across well, absolutely no analysis of what went on - just condemnation and ridicule. Ultimately he lost everything because of her, because for him, his confidence was everything - his career could have been a lot better. I’m chuffed they did this documentary though, because he should never have been a pariah, he should have been a hero, and now we can all see he is one.

One of the funniest moments in an TV show ever. All his comeuppances in one horrible, hilarious moment. I was in tears of laughter. Kieran Culkin was terrific, he conveyed the true horror of that moment in three superb bits of acting. Has to be my favourite moment so far, of perhaps the greatest show ever.

A really underrated show in the same vain is HBO's 'Industry' about the cutthroat world of the London stock exchange. Not as funny or as well written as Succession but absolutely worth a watch. Leftovers and Kingdom (the MMA one) are two other 10/10 shows I've watched recently and would recommend.

Any thoughts on the Kinefinity Terra X 4K? Looking in this range of cam (FS7, C200, BMMU), but at the moment I've had my head turned by the Terra X as it looks great and the footage is fantastic. But I worry about the 25 seconds it takes to turn it on. I'm looking for something small and light to shoot docs in difficult places. I already have the GH5 but I want something that gives me cinematic footage and preferably Netflix approved.

This is great advice, thanks. I'm definitely looking for more of a workhorse, something that can be used out in the field as well as in a controlled conditions, so it seems the RED is out. A lot of people say look no further than the FS7, and it's clearly a brilliant camera, but it's big. People also preaching the virtues of the C200 but other people are saying to steer clear, also it's not Netflix approved which is annoying. I really like almost everything about the Kinefinity Terra X 4K, but it's a big risk seeing as they're a relatively unknown quantity, though Pro AV in the UK say they will fix any issues if there are any. The only problem I have with it is the 25 second time from turning the cam on to when you can start shooting. In a pressure situation that's useless. Also not Netflix approved. I'm leaning towards a used FS7 but it's really is a tricky one.

Also wondering which of these cameras are likely to stand the test of time. I'm hoping to buy something that I can use for the next 7-10 years, and with new cameras coming out all the time, I'm wondering which one is most likely to still be relevant in 2025 and beyond. From what I've seen of the BMUM 4.6K, it can be pretty brittle. Hence the reason I'm more excited about sturdier cams like the FS7, Terra X and Red Raven.

Excellent points. I've found a basic package online with brain, screen, batteries, and SSD card and pelican case for about $10,000 barely used, but I have a feeling that buying things like the side grip, a cage etc etc could be very expensive and problematic. I'm also worried about what would happen if it went wrong. But a Red is a Red and the footage out of the Raven looks gorgeous, plus it's Netflix approved which is helpful, and I'm not sure a deal like this is likely to come along again. Is the Red Raven also good for run and gun shooting? And any idea about start up time. The 25 seconds it takes to boot up the Terra X is a bit of a turn off.
