I picked it for a book club. I’m not allowed to pick books for book club anymore.

As someone who identifies as a puristical traditionalist (wet flies only, bamboo rods, silk line, tweed underpants, NO NET, wicker creel to keep my captured gills fresh and moist for frisky fun) I prefer the old ways of measuring my prize - outright fabrication. You jerkers may think that a to-scale photo of your wife’s boyfriend’s dong imprinted into the bottom of your net provides some semblance of accuracy - and maybe it does. But don’t be a cuck on the water too. Make shit up. Tell yourself and others the same types of lies about fishing as you do about the rest of your impoverished lives. For example, yesterday I landed 1, 6” brook trout and missed the take on another. It poured rain all day and I was mostly miserable. During a stream side chat this turned into landing 2, 8” brookies and another I lost. By the time I got home I had landed 2, 8” brookies, a solid 15” rainbow and 6 carp under sunny skies for the “best day on the water in a long time!” (Just lying about catching carp is enough, no need to lie about the size or weight.)
How many trouts have had the pleasure of those gilldos?
Nothing to add here except to say that sometimes I’ll tie a dry on a heavier gauge hook because I want it to sit lower on the water or just below the surface. Not like an Emerger per se but as a struggling dry. With the EHC you can get really creative in how you fish it. It is very versatile. Experiment.
The Astros have fans? Sickos.
You think this is bad? I remember one time I was trail running with my Labrador Retriever and he suddenly flew off barking into the brush off the trail and two guys jumped up with their pants around their ankles. Not 10 feet off the trail. I don’t think they were peeing.
Did you have to slip a $1 bill into… anything?
Good redditors borrow, great redditors steal.
Tell me you’re poor without telling me you’re poor. Go back to bass fishing scrub!!!

Graphic novels are an option. Watchmen, Sandman, Maus, From Hell, V for Vendetta, Persepolis, Kingdom Come, The Dark Knight Returns - some of my favorites. The literary value is high and he’s READING. The subject matter and themes may pique enough interest to pick up a novel.
Also if graphic novels aren’t the thing shoot for short stories. Hemingway, O. Henry, Flannery O’Connor, Raymond Carver, Alice Munro, Poe, Bradbury. A bit easier to take in perhaps than a novel.

Neither have I. I have them. I tie them. I even sometimes fish them, but I just have no confidence in them so I probably never give it enough of a chance. I also fish a lot of small streams with an S glass 3wt which doesn’t chuck ‘em very well. Just goes to show that having confidence in the pattern is a variable.
I’ll echo what others have said - this is a good tie. Think about putting some marabou at the head of the articulation and behind the eyes (as has been said) and then maybe some flashier chenille or UV ice dub on the body. But… again. Looks great.
Not the kind of brown I would have expected to be caught in that location.
