They've banned a lot of "normie" language. It's not fair to say moderating an internet forum is authoritarian; I wouldn't go that far personally. I'm just saying wasting energy on policing it is silly when we could be focused on more important things. Making anarchism accessible is an important mission and maybe they want like femme or nonbinary folks to feel more welcome but it sort of seems like the choice of which words to regulate has been perhaps too broad, and might be doing more harm to access than good. There are other words they police as well that I find more ridiculous but I think enough has been said here.
My point is not that they are being authoritarian but seem to have picked battles that lend towards being very "online", towards having a sort of anarchist enclave, perhaps like Tumblr, and not towards reaching a better world in general for everyone.
I dunno when exactly the shift become noticeable but I have observed a slow shift on r/anarchism over the past 15 years. R/anarchism is originally the forum that introduced me to Reddit and it was way more rooted in meaningful material and theory "back in the day". Now I find they are very interested in policing language and the content is fluffier and generally low energy. It's not like here is really any better. Anarchism on Reddit has slowly reached a really broad, younger audience, and I think has become more approachable over all. I do miss the more rational anarchist energy we used to have though.
Identity politics is fine and it has a place, but it's also not what Anarchism is about really. Shifting vocabulary, especially by forcing others to change their choice of words is just definitely not what Anarchism is about, and it's a shame because anarchists can do wonderful things, but when we are preoccupied by small stuff we burn out.
I can't imagine anything more Western than a mohawk
You are so close to getting it holy shit lmao
Stupid regulations but nothing really to do with solarpunk
You are missing out on a golden opportunity to pill them on the subaru sambar or similarly tiny japanese mini truck that is 1000x better than their overweight vehicle in almost every metric that they care about
You should get chickens. He can feed the old food to them!
Probably food and clean water. Both are going to be scarce in two centuries.
Exactly. Solarpunk future is decentralized and low energy
It's not that solar punk needs to be low energy. It's that humans need to move back to lower energy lifestyles in general. Solar punk only exists while humans do.
Regenesis has a core assumption of a cheap to free energy future with heavy centralization. That's just not realistic. Such a world would require so much mining, heavy manufacturing, and energy collection that unless it were also heavily depopulated the earth would be a bare rock.
Cycling, running, and planting trees. Also having chickens. That's pretty much it
I'm sure almost anywhere could be self sufficient food-wise if the policy mechanism was in place. But currently it really does not sound like a "safe haven" but more like a vector for collapse and possibly famine.
I don't consider regenesis to be solarpunk. It's juat part of the ecomodernist green capitalist agenda.
Read Chris Smaje if you want an in depth explainer why the plan laid out is unrealistic.
My simple take is that growing beans, corn, and squash is infinitely more solarpunk than anything in Regenesis. I don't think Monbiot's take tracks with the lower energy future that a solarpunk world should be oriented around.
Aren't both countries net food importing? That's literally the opposite of what you want
It's possible if this happens, the human race would survive a few extra centuries.
I think without it, extinction is baked in. Look at the amount of plastic waste in the environment since the invention of plastic and consider that the micro and nano plastics are currently only a paltry amount compared to how prevalent they will be in a few decades.
Humans are unlikely to be able to live with that level of contamination in food, water, and air. It is particularly troubling trying to guess the effects on babies and children.
But if bacteria evolve to eat the smallest particles then everything will be cleaner, and maybe human bodies won't steadily bioaccumulate plastic throughout our lives.its probably our only hope, as I see it
I think they try not to prescribe opioids to mothers who are trying to get started w/ breastfeeding. It depends on the hospital but the general guidance is against it. There are a number of reasons why but ultimately it probably comes down to the breastfeeding thing. Especially in the first weeks it's very important to initiate lactation and they they hard to facilitate that since breastfed children are much healthier overall
It always riles everyone up when I say this but the problem is not the grid but human lifestyles. It's very fashionable to say that your personal footprint doesn't matter, this is all caused by corporations/industry, etc, etc. but the truth is for grid decarbonization there also has to be decreases in energy use overall. That means people doing a lot less of pretty much everything that they enjoy and are used to.
I have never understood the notion of charging children rent. My parents were nothing like this. This seems to be a uniquely American thing; I never see this elsewhere. It's completely insane. You are right to be upset about it. That said, I would encourage you to reconcile with your family in the long run. Perhaps in a few months or few years. You will know when is the time. That doesn't mean forgiving them for this or even addressing it. It just means maintaining your family bond. Family is irreplaceable. Which is why it's so much worse what they did to you, but you can still be the bigger person. Eventually... (I wouldn't be in a rush) .Good luck big homie
One thing you can do is you can forego batteries and use the power directly. For centuries this is what humans did effectively when using hydro, wind, solar without electrification.
For example, power tools that you use only during the day or hot water heater that warns only during the day (very popular, already in use in many countries).
It is also possible to use the power to pump water uphill or to compress air.
Corbusier designed one of the only city in India that is moderately bike able (Chandigarh) but I'm not sure that was an intentional aspect of the design
Bruh I get what you are saying but it doesn't even have four doors. Come on man this low level meme type posting
This Chinese EV cost just around US$5000 there is no excuse to own a car bigger than this. I want to see all major cars replaced with them in the near future it's all anyone needs
