Yep, was supposed to be about 1:50. I think the ferry went slower due to the conditions

We took one ferry on our vacation a couple weeks ago. Winds were super high, to the point the night before our early departure I was worried it might get cancelled.

The ushers on the boat would not let anybody stand up (for safety) and passed out barf bags. Not kidding when I say half the boat was puking the entire 3 hours from Crete to Santorini. Luckily my wife and I did not get seasick, but it was absolutely surreal how many people were retching the whole time.

Granted, this was an abnormally windy day. And honestly I still enjoyed the experience since I didn’t get seasick, but just wanted to chime in and say it can really get that bad

Update in case anybody stumbles upon this thread and is wondering the same thing. Airalo worked perfectly for us in Crete, Santorini and Athens. No issues at all!

We just got back from just a 1 week trip to Greece where we spent 4 nights in Chania and 2 nights in Athens.

I think 2 nights in Athens is perfect. We did the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, and a city walk tour. Highly recommend you to download an app called Rick Steves Audio Europe and download the 3 Athens tours. It’s free and they are all 3 great tours. We felt we saw everything we pretty much wanted in Athens in just the couple days we had there. Short flight from Athens to Chania via Aegean airlines and the metro can take you straight from the airport to Montistiraki in 40 minutes. I would NOT recommend renting a car in Athens. We did rent a car in Crete though.

How is this a dank meme

I’m staying at Porto Veneziano Hotel in a little over a week. Picked it because they have 20 free parking spots dedicated for the hotel. I’ve read that even if they fill up there’s a paid parking lot across the street that’s not too expensive.

Dispute and file a BBB complaint. Takes about 5min online. I just successfully disputed a bullshit charge with Metropolis last month— took about 5 email exchanges and threatening a BBB complaint to get a refund. I still went ahead and filed the complaint though, fuck them.

They’ve apparently gotten tons of complaints over the past couple years and caught the attention of the TN attorney general so hopefully something changes soon.

Recommendations for eSIM? Mainly focused on service for CreteQuestion

I’m finding it hard to find a definitive answer for which eSIM works best in Greece. I’ve seen mixed reviews for Airalo.

My upcoming trip will mainly be in Crete, but will also be spending time in Santorini and Athens. Any tips from past experience?

I’ve gotten 2 emails back from customer support so far, both denying refund. Last response from them:

“I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused but Metropolis wants to make sure every visitor is empowered to make an informed parking decision, and do so by being transparent and upfront regarding pricing and duration. In this spirit, we have designed the process to require our member's active input over several steps by selecting and then confirming both the total time and cost. It is only once they have made the final confirmation that the visit will officially begin.

Unfortunately, just like a traditional meter, we are unable to offer refunds once the timer has started.

Thank you for your time and understanding.”

I replied: “This is simply not true and you can find multiple posts online (Reddit.com) and news articles about people submitting complaints about Metropolis’s practices. Direct quote from WKRN Nashville: “The Middle Tennessee Better Business Bureau said Metropolis has “a pattern of complaints” regarding their billing and customer services.”

I was NOT prompted to specifically authorize this charge and begin parking, as is the common way other parking services work. I will be submitting a charge back with my credit card company if this is not refunded.”

I also just filed a complaint with the BBB online which was pretty easy. Tennessee Attorney General has reportedly gotten dozens of complaints in the last couple years.

Exact same thing happened to me last night. I scanned the QR code, saw that they had a 12 hour/ $25 rate, figured if I chose the "start parking" option there would be the option for an hourly rate like the sign in the parking lot had posted. Put in my phone #, input the one-time generated code, and then immediately was notified my card had been charged with no way to cancel (they had my card # on file from a previous transaction).

Absolutely insane there's no screen to select "authorize charge" or "begin parking" once you login w/ the QR code (like every other parking service I've used). Feel like they've stolen the $25 + taxes and fees from me. I've started a dispute but customer service has not been helpful so far.

Ubigi eSIM ?Recommendations

Has anybody used Ubigi eSIM while traveling through Greece? I used it last year when I visited Japan and it worked amazing.

I plan to visit Athens, Crete, and Santorini if that makes any difference.

Last time I traveled to Asia I called my bank ahead of time to let them know. They told me that this is an outdated practice and there’s no need to do it anymore

The app says tall fescue for the zoomed in pictures. It thinks the last pic that’s zoomed out is Kentucky bluegrass. I’m gonna assume the zoomed in pics are more accurate !

Recommendation for deck staining company?Help | Advice

I’ve got a front porch/deck that was painted (not stained) prior to me buying the house. I’d like to have a contractor strip the paint and stain it.

Any recommendations for local companies in the Nashville area to request quotes from?

I just had an Italian from 51st last week and thought it was pretty good! I saw it came with “sabi sauce” on it but didn’t even put 2 and 2 together to realize it was wasabi lol

Right, you’re required to use their router. I’ve heard there’s some bypass tricks you can do to use your own but it’s definitely not as straightforward or easy as Google Fiber’s set up, right ?

This is the one issue I’ve also read about GF that worries me. I guess ATT and the other big ISP’s lobbied against Google using the telephone poles in the city, so they had to microtrench in the streets versus using aerial lines for the fiber.

Definitely seems to be East Nashville and other super high construction neighborhoods that have the most issues. Guess I’ll see after a few months how it works in Wedgewood Houston!

Typically the equipment provided by the providers isn’t the best, so yes, using a higher quality router would probably improve your wifi. Definitely would depend on square footage, placement of router, etc. It could very well be fine for your usage. I’ve been using AT&T’s equipment for the past 3 years without issue (have an access point upstairs to extend the range).

There’s also some more technical stuff with the equipment AT&T provides with firewall/security stuff that I don’t completely understand haha

To clarify, I’m talking about 1gig speeds. $70 for Google Fiber vs $80 for AT&T Fiber. No equipment fees for GF, I believe there’s an extra $10/mo equipment fee for AT&T.

Probably worth noting that 1gig is (I believe) Google Fiber’s lowest speed. AT&T offers both 300mbps and 500mbps for a bit cheaper if you don’t need speed like you said.

I live in Wedgewood Houston and literally just canceled AT&T Fiber and have Google Fiber coming to install this week.

AT&T was great service, but after years of having to call to renegotiate each year after our “promo discount” would expire, they told me this year that they no longer do discounts of any kind. They’ve got a flat rate non negotiable fee apparently.

It’s higher than Google Fiber’s $70/month. Also, with Google Fiber you can use your own router equipment; AT&T Fiber you’re required to use their router.

Both are good options. I’d lean towards Google Fiber though.

Only thing I can think of. Sign a historical contract and purposely fuck up so bad with the simplest roster construction that you’re home for Christmas
